Louisiana Abortion Clinic Shut Down for Ignoring “Most Basic” Medical Practices

By Peter J. Smith

SHREVEPORT, Louisiana, September 7, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals has invoked its authority under a new law to suspend the operations of an abortion facility after an investigation showed that it was endangering women’s lives by giving them substandard care.

According to the Shreveport Times, the DHH revoked the operating license of Hope Medical Group for Women in Shreveport, after agents found the abortion facility’s staff failed to provide women a physical examination prior to abortions, or follow necessary protocols for the administration of anesthesia and monitoring their clients’ vital signs.

"These are some of the most basic medical practices they were excluding," said Anthony Keck interim secretary for the Louisiana DHH, according to the Times.

The Times reports that the abortion facility is the first that has been shut down under a new Louisiana state law that empowers the Department of Health and Hospitals to shut down the operation of an abortion facility if a DHH investigation rules that the facility is violating the law and poses “an immediate threat to the health and safety of a patient or client.”

Under the law, if the licensed owner of the facility in violation loses his operating license, then all abortion facilities licensed under that owner would also have to cease their operations.

The law brought outpatient abortion clinics into compliance with Louisiana’s regulations that already apply to hospitals.

According to the Times, DHH investigators performed an unannounced annual survey Aug. 11-13 from the DHH’s Health Standards division, reviewing the procedures of 14 abortions. Keck told the Times that the Hope Medical Group’s violations “were so egregious and so consistent that we felt it was necessary to order them to cease and desist immediately.”

In the cases reviewed, no physicals were given before anesthetizing patients, which is necessary to prevent devastating health reactions to anesthesia, and the abortion centre failed to have a trained professional monitor their clients respiratory, cardiovascular, and consciousness levels after the administration of intravenous and gaseous anesthesia.

The abortion clinic has thirty days to file an appeal of the DHH’s decision. Before the law was enacted, abortion facilities could still carry on operations while the appeals process was fought out.

This is really good news.

I remember a clinic which left baby body parts in their alley, and some young teens riding the alley with their bikes found them.

I don't recall the clinic ever being fined or shut down because of it.

The other article on this was to a AP article via Yahoo.com

The Shreveport Times article is very similar to the article found on yahoo.com

Someone did say that abortionist Nicola I. Riley, MD, worked at this abortion clinic (she would alternate working at this clinic every other week -- going to the East Coast on other week).

She is one that has had her license to practice medicine in Maryland revoked. She also practices abortion in Delaware.

This may be partly due to the intervention of Mother Teresa.

On September 5, 1998, a group of prolifers at Delta Women's Clinic in Baton Rouge prayed for a favor of Mother Teresa that day. It was the first anniversary of Mother Teresa's death.

The last abortion that day was for a woman known in a lawsuit as Denise Doe. Denise is listed on the Silent No More Awareness site as a woman who had the most severe injuries from an abortion (or abortion attempt) and still lived.

Remarkably, her baby survived the abortion.

Because of what happened to Denise Doe, a law passed in 1999 to force sanitary inspections of abortion clinics.

This law was a prelude to the law passed this past summer...

Can’t be. Legally operating abortion clinics would never botch such an operation. There is no need for parental consent.

It’s “special”.

I posted some more information on Reply #8 on the following Freerepublic.com thread:

La. officials suspend abortion clinic's license

Not only was there a major lawsuit against the abortion industry, and the law for Sanitary inspections of Abortion Clinics, but a Baton Rouge TV station did a series on what happened to Denise Doe.

I still think Mother Teresa deserves an assist on the closing of this abortion clinic...

I may have to amend what I wrote to The Cause for the Canonization of Mother Teresa as the closing of this abortion clinic is based on the 1999 law (Sanitary Inspection of Abortion Clinics). That law laid the groundwork for the 2010 Law to Close abortion clinics.

But then the Louisiana Legislature and Gov Bobby Jindal do deserve credit as well...

Nicola Riley just showed up in a NJ/MD story about a woman who was severely injured during an abortion - late term abortions would be started medically in NJ and then the woman would have to go to MD for the surgical completion.

Her NJ partner is Stephen Brigham who IIRC for a year or so in the early 90s coverted to Christianity, denounced abortion and homosexuality, and then went back to his old ways.

To be fair, it also may partly not be. Or not at all. It’s hard to tell for sure.

My mistake. A posting on the Yahoo News article on the closing of this Louisiana Abortion Clinic talked about Nicola I Riley. But that was in reference to her problems in Maryland (where she has lost her medical license).

This is the post that mislead me:

Before there was this law this past summer, there was the Law for Sanitary Inspection of Abortion Clinics

That law was passed in 1999, but was fought by groups like NOW.

It did not become law (because of legal battles) until 2000.

It is my belief that it was easier for the Louisiana Legislature and Governor Bobby Jindal to pass the new law based on the Law for Sanitary Inspection of Abortion Clinics

Of course, that is my personal belief...

Someone in the Louisiana Legislature might have more information, or Brian Clapper with Louisiana Right to Life...

Don’t get me wrong, I totally believe the laws that passed and the legislators and issue groups for these laws, are happily responsible for this clinic being shut down. No question.

I believe in the intervention of Mother Teresa because we asked the favor of help for the prolife movement on the date of the botched abortion (which also the anniversary of the death of Mother Teresa -- September 5, 1998).

An abortion that was done that day resulted in:

(1) A series by a local TV station on the botched abortion
(2) First an executive by Governor Buddy Roemer and then a law by the Louisiana Legislature about Sanitary Inspection of Abortion Clinics
(3) Finally, there was a major lawsuit because of the injuries to the woman (Denise Doe).

All of these fit the footing of help for the pro-life movement

And, on earth, Mother Teresa was strongly opposed to abortion.

The mother of the woman had the extra-ordinary event happen that she prayed to God to save her daughter's life.

When she suddenly prayed that she would speak out against abortion, her daughter went from being on the cold side of death to a remarkable recovery.

When it appeared that her daughter was going to recover, she decided to renege on her promise to God -- about speaking out against abortion.

The daughter immediately took a turn for the worse, and almost died a second time. The mother realized her error, repented, and promised to speak out against abortion. I personally heard the mother speak about what happened in January 1999 in Lafayette, Louisiana. The Bishop of Lafayette had to comfort the woman, as she cried as she told the story...

The daughter was suffering, after the botched abortion, from septic poisoning that swelled her body to twice its size.

The daughter had to have an emergency hysterectomy.

Remarkably, after this horrible abortion attempt, the baby was still alive, as the abortionist told the woman to go to a local hospital when the abortion failed.

There is a group of them tetering on collapse in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia.

In addition, there is another group of Planned Parenthood abortion clinics in trouble in California. Ironically, it is the New York Times that reported this via their Bay Area blog.

The IRS is doing a criminal investigation of these Planned Parenthood Clinics.

Is there something to this story? Planned Parenthood kicked this chain out their affliates at the same time the IRS started investigaing...

FreeRepublic thread with link to New York Times article:

I.R.S. Looks at Finances of Bay Area Clinic [ IRS ]

So you might have Planned Parenthood Clinics (or former ones) tied to a criminal probe by the IRS that might be forced to shut down...

Note the timing of this: between the Feast of Blessed Mother Teresa (September 5) and Feast of the birth of Momma Mary (September 8)

I think the Father and the Son, our Lord Jesus, are giving these two some wonderful gifts for their feast days: abortion clinics closed and abortion doctors having their licenses revoked.

Note that the Late Term Abortion Clinics in Maryland cannot operate, and I believe they have lost all of their abortionists (at least for the moment)!

I don't know if you have these 4 abortion clinics, but this is from a Philadelphia Enquirer article:

The article is: More trouble for abortion doctor, this time in Pennsylvania

According to the article, 4 clinics in Pennsylvania were shut down... That was back in July...

This abortionist also has IRS troubles...

I am not sure if we can post the Philadelphia Inquirer on FreeRepublic.

I am going to have to have a bookmark to our FAQ page so I can easily look this up...
