Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help!  If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

I went to the MSNBC live page to see what time the speech was and saw that at 10 am Eastern (about 15 minutes) there is going to be a Tom Daschle briefing. Why?? What could he possibly have to say about this??

Yeah, they showed it on Coalition TV with Arabic subtitles. I saw it via Sky News. He told the Iraqi people that the regime will end soon. Tony told them that they will run their own country.

One thing I've noticed is that, since Saddam's reign appears over, all of the sudden, France, Germany, Russia, et al, are wanting to rebuild, etc...blah,blahblah. The response from GWB and TB is always: The Iraqi people are fully capable of running their own country. Quite a difference.

he will probably say, now that THAT's over let's turn our nations' attention to rolling back those Tax Cuts for the Rich (tm) and will comment on the lack of Enron coverage in the media. This conference is in response to speculation that DNC command and control is in disarray and that even Special DNC operatives are nowhere to be seen.

But yesterday/last night was sooo much fun here on FR, wasn't it!! ;0)

I wouldn't freakin' know! At 5:00 pm Baghdad time, as the tanks were in the circle, and the first two guys were climbing up on the statue, I was filling my truck with gas for my 16-hour trip!! I have sat at this computer for about 20-22 hours out of every single day for a week, and the one day I had to be on the road, THE STATUE CAME DOWN !!

As I was driving, listening to it live on the radio, I was talking out loud to you all... rejoicing with the Iraqi people... and so proud to be an American... wishing I had a 3' x 5' American flag to fly out my window down the highway.

I drove through two medium-sized rural towns on that trip, and both of them had their sidewalks lined with at least 100 large (4'x6') American flags. The wooden flagpoles were just stuck in small holes in the sidewalk, as if lining a parade route. Not a single flag was missing -- there was nothing keeping anyone from stealing them... but no one did. Very refreshing.

The reason I had to be on the road was for a job interview. After staying up all week, more or less, then again all night yesterday, I drove to the interview on adrenalin and Cocoa Krispies. (LOL) When my prospective employer came to get me for the interview, he sticks out his hand and asks "How are you?" I said "I'm proud to be an American. We have tanks in downtown Baghdad!!"

"I wonder how many here actually saw that movie."

Oddly, I've never seen the movie. I do, however, remember the day our Boston alternative rock station (WBCN in 1969) played the whole double album without interruption. I was mesmerized for over an hour.

Who played Uncle Ernie in the movie?

Accidentally stepped into the twilight zone on CNN just now:

Paula Zahn, "He must have been really humiliated yesterday." (Paula looking like her pet just died)

Con Coughlin, "Let's not forget that Saddam is a realist...Saddam will not be surprised to see that Baghdad is pulling down his statue...He is really popular in Tikrit."

Paula appears to be very, very sad for Saddam. These people are sick. Anyone have a link to 'Iraqi people attacking Al Jazeera reporter' stories?

E-mail CNN

LOL!! I forgot to add that it wouldn't be the first time she's been disappointed. BUT, it's hard to look worse then my brother who married the lib, public school teacher. She's not even a real teacher. She teaches for some government program and during the 2000 elections she kept saying, "I can't vote for Bush! I'll lose my job because he will cut education funding!" See, it's harder to be a bigger disappointment then that.
