Dozens of women want Bronze Age hunter's babies

Dozens of women have asked to be made pregnant by a prehistoric iceman who died 5,000 years ago.

The body of "Otzi the Iceman" was discovered by hikers in 1991 as ice melted in the Schnalstal glacier, high in the Italian Alps.

Alex Susanna, director of the Bozen Museum where his body is exhibited, says requests have been received by many women wanting to have Otzi's babies.

He told Austrian broadcasting company ORF that all of the requests had been turned down, not least because Otzi's penis had decayed away.

Otzi was found half emerged from the ice and his body was first thought to be that of a modern climber. Closer examination showed he was still wearing goatskin leggings and a grass cape.

His copper-headed axe and a quiver full of arrows were found nearby and radio-carbon dating showed the body was more than 5,000 years old.

Technically not impossible if they try to clone the Iceman.

Genetic scientists would use his DNA (if it can be extracted intact and undamaged from his cells) to implant into human egg cells that have been emptied of their genetic contents. These cells subsequently are implanted in the surrogate mother - who has no genetic connection to the resulting male offspring.

There are huge technical problems in just getting to the implantable embryo stage (hundreds of failures per success) and there are high rates of abnomalities in the offspring that make it to term. There have been recent scientific articles expressing extreme reservations about cloning higher level mammals for these reasons. It is unlikely any reputable genetic scientist or fertility doctor would be willing to undertake the attempt.

The Raelians...like I said, reputable.

The final question is ...why??

The Ice Man has little significance genetically since he is a modern human (Homo Sapiens Sapiens). There are presently about 4 billion of that particular genotype alive today. Further, since we already have his DNA to study, why would we need a living example? So, outside of the sheer notoriety, why would any woman want to have such a child - especially when the risk of abnormality is so high?

This is all because Otzi's TV show is such a big hit. I bet if some woman had his baby, the kid would grow up and bite the head off a bat, just like his bronze age dad.

Or something ...

You said 4 billion Homo Sapiens Sapien. Are ther 1+ billion people in other genotypes? If so, which?

Seems to me that this could be an excellent opportunity to play a sick practical joke on some weird women.

Where were these women when I was single?

Out dating other guys that they thought were more fun. On the bright side, though, you'll probably get to pay the child support for these kids......

I once responded, with my resume, to a lady looking for a male to father a child.
She specified a "natural impregnation."

I never heard from her. Do you think I should have left the vasectomy off the medical information?

I have to believe that, even if fertilization was possible, these children would suffer the risk of a whole slew of maladies that have largely "evolved" away. But then, I don't mean to suggest that these women are intelligent enough to figure that out.
