President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Illinois National Guardsmen pass a staging area for trucks being deployed to help with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005, at Camp Lincoln in Springfield, Ill. The trucks will be accompanied by about 200 members of the Springfield-based 367th Maintenance Company, plus drivers and command staff.

Why should the levee be bush's fault? The funding for that is a clinton era project, or possibly Bush senior, I believe. I know they were working on the bridge at old hammond rd. in 98...and clinton turned down a request for funding to bring levee strength up to category 5 standards....

David Schuster, MSNBC, just reported from Bollix that he has been told by authorities that there are hundreds of dead that have not been included in the public numbers. The reason they have not been reported is that the coroner's office is overwhelmed

IMHO the numbers will be 100's of thousands when all is said and done.

I'm thinking the order is in fact starting to be restored - and I think it is the obvious 72 hour rule - it's been about 72 hours since the hurricane stopped going through NO and the surrounding areas so things MAYBE will improve starting now

Agree, I think think the grown-ups have arrived and are getting thing under control
