28,000 National Guard troops are deployed to the disaster areas in Mississippi, Alabama, and to Louisiana, where SWAT teams are working to combat the looters and shooters in New Orleans. Additional 1400 National Guard troops are being deployed daily.

Shootings reported at a New Orleans hospital, rescue boats, and a military helicopter, while conditions continue to deteriorate at the SuperDome amid refugee deaths and chaos. Evacuation of New Orleans continues.

House Speaker Dennis Hastert has voiced serious doubts about rebuilding New Orleans with federal funds, while assuring the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida that the United States Congress stands ready to help them in their time of need. New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin issued a "desperate SOS."

Doctors at two desperately crippled hospitals in New Orleans called The Associated Press Thursday morning pleading for rescue, "We have been trying to call the mayor's office, we have been trying to call the governor's office ... we have tried to use any inside pressure we can. We are turning to you. Please help us," said Dr. Norman McSwain, chief of trauma surgery at Charity Hospital, the largest of two public hospitals.

The Port of New Orleans is now open to shallow draft vessels. Congress is reconvening in an emergency session. International offers to assist the U.S. have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States.

LOL!

BTW, would someone please tell CNN that using Google Earth graphics isn't terribly impressive? Dear CNN: everybody with a $300 computer from Wal-Mart can use the same software for free.

OMG.

This is what happens when you allow emotionalism to run your life. No time for rational thought, problem-solving.

This is a result of Me, My Feelings and My Needs thinking.

I'm sure this has been posted, but there are a butt-load of posts and I don't have the time to read all of them...

BUT, a lot of accusations have been fired towards President Bush over the National Guard just arriving in New Orleans. Is that the President's call, or is that the responsibility of Govnernors Barbour and Blanco?

Now Frist says he might hearings into the response.

It's open season on Bush now.

If CBC is responsible for all the good, would they like the President to hand over everything to them? I thought not. They haven't a clue how to deal with this, the President does.

Time the politihacks were removed from power so adults could concentrate on the disaster in peace.

Nagin's only avenue of redemption - would be to lay it all on Blanco.

Excellent idea....I'll be shooting off some later.

Once again the liberal press and the Dem party are shooting themselves in the foot.

People are watching a massive rescue attempt, and understand the magnitude of the situation.

The MSM and libs are whining and blaming. They don't have a plan, they just have complaints.

That strategy always backfires on them.

It might not make sense to you or I sitting behind our keyboards, but imagine the desperation of being in that situation.

Very good and plausible points, NVA. Last night, I tried to imagine being separated from Mr. h, not knowing where my parents were, having to leave cherished pets behind, danger to the small children in our extended families, etc. and had to stop because it was too overwhelming. If it was that painful just imagining, I cannot comprehend the horror people are experiencing and what they or I might do to gain some relief.

Thank you for the added perspective.

The City is ON FIRE

Teams Alpha and Bravo finished the medium range recon and there are 3 separate locations on fire. We have pictures coming shortly.

During the recon, I spoke to some Federal Marshalls and NOPD. Morale is LOW. Very low. They're not seeing the military presence they say they were promised. I told those guys they can't possibly imagine how much we (the world) appreciate their dedication. I asked what civil rights the citizens have and the US Marshalls looked at me like I just fell off the turnip truck and chuckled. I asked if citizens can have guns for protection and he said if someone thinks he needs a gun, he should have already evacuated. He also said they are setting the city on fire.

The NOPD wants to know where "the two active duty brigades" were that he says they were told were supposed to arrive today. When I asked him what he would want to tell the world, he said Everyone keeps talking about the military presence in the city, and then asked me," Do you see any military around here" in dusgust.

We reconned our roof also, to get a better view of the city and took... I hesitate to call them "amazing" pictures. My city... it has been punched in the face and is on the canvas being counted out.

And yes, that's smoke you see out of the windows. The city is under a haze from the fires. Smoke and ash are floating miles away from the fires.

Now Frist says he might hearings into the response.

This is appropriate and necessary. Let's just hope Our Elected Leaders have the balls to make them honest hearings, and that they don't brook any nonsense. (Well, I can hope, right?)

It's open season on Bush now.

Remains to be seen, though the wind is shifting that direction. However, Bush has the factual timeline on his side, so he can weather this storm. Especially of the hearings are honest.

Heck yes they are giddy about the deaths...

you watch...Chrissy will make as big of a deal about the amount of deaths in this tragedy as he does of the deaths of troops in Iraq...

Just one giant political tote board to these people!!!!

I just heard that, Howlin. This is just pathetic. Frist laying his groundgame for the 2006 GOP nomination... by appeasing Democrats and taking actions like this so the media will "love him".

The ONLY man worth his salt in DC is President Bush.
