Will FR embrace socialism to make way for Rudy Giuliani as a Republican presidential candidate?
vanity | April 21, 2007 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 04/21/2007 6:42:25 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

We've got some real challenges facing us. FR was established to fight against government corruption, overstepping, and abuse and to fight for a return to the limited constitutional government as envisioned and set forth by our founding fathers in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and other founding documents.

One of the biggest cases of government corruption, overstepping and abuse that I know of is its disgraceful headlong slide into a socialist hell. Our founders never intended for abortion to be the law of the land. And they never intended the Supreme Court to be a legislative body. They never intended God or religion to be written out of public life. They never intended government to be used to deny God's existence or for government to be used to force sexual perversions onto our society or into our children's education curriculum. They never intend for government to disarm the people. They never intended for government to set up sanctuary cities for illegals. They never intended government to “rule” over the people and or to take their earnings or private property or to deprive them of their constitutional rights to free speech, free religion, private property, due process, etc. They never intended government to seize the private property of private citizens through draconian asset forfeiture laws or laws allowing government to take private property from lawful owners to give to developers. Or to seize wealth and redistribute it to others. Or to provide government forced health insurance or government forced retirement systems.

All of the above are examples of ever expanding socialism and tyranny brought to us by liberals/liberalism.

FR fights against the liberals/Democrats in all of these areas and always will. Now if liberalism infiltrates into the Republican party and Republicans start promoting all this socialist garbage, do you think that I or FR will suddenly stop fighting against it? Do you think I'm going to bow down and accept abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, global warming, illegal alien lawbreakers, gun control, asset forfeiture, socialism, tyranny, totalitarianism, etc, etc, etc, just so some fancy New York liberal lawyer can become president from the Republican party?

Do you really expect me to do that?

I actually caught up enough to post a little news on the Long War thread. I am amazed.

abortion and gay issue.

Why are you trying to paint Fred as something he is not. Is it because you wish to promote your own candidate in comparison?

Can you make it a short, quick goodbye? As a lawyer, I always found your legal analysis to be lacking, to put it mildly.

You will remember the night that Tom Delay announced his withdrawal from his Congressional race, with the idea being that the Texas Republican party could just select his replacement? I, being knowledgeable in the law, immediately said that that could not be done, and that the Republican party would therefore have no candidate on the ballot in this "safe" Republican seat.

You never even so much as responded to any of my posts, but supported the notion that the party could hand select a replacement.

As Judge Sam Sparks held, I was of course 100% right and you were 100% wrong.

I find it hard to accept that you have actually believed this or any one of a number of positions that your have taken on this site. Instead, I think that you have promoted legal positions which you as a self-described moderate seek to achieve regardless of the truth.

This is just but one example of how you have used this site to undermine the conservative cause and to promote your moderate/liberal agenda.

I think this race will be over in a little over 2 weeks.

Fred Thompson will announce, McCain will see the writing on the wall and ease out of the race, Romney’s going to see his contributor’s cash dry up(Fred announcing will kill his campaign), and Rudy will see his numbers plunge again as Fred climbs in the polls.

I think the Republicans in the race, AND the RATS, are scared to death of Fred Thompson. I’ve never seen so many hit pieces on somebody who’s not officially running for POTUS in the usual suspects in the MSM...

I disagree. Spiff is trying to get me banned by deliberately misprepresenting what I've said and pinging JimRob to pretend I said something I didn't.......and he's not the first on this thread who has tried a similar technique.

btw, I doubt that some of these people will be back. I don't agree with their political position right now, but they are good people who should still be here.

But that's JMHO......

“It will accomplish nothing, and the reasoned voices will be stilled if this kind of thread is indicative of the future......”

It’s politics. It’s pointed elbows because it matters, because it’s critical. It’s primary season, you fight hard and then you shake hands.

Problem is, guys like Hunter or Thompson have little to chance of winning states like New York, Connecticut, Oregon, Washington, New Jersey, etc.

Who told you that? Reagan won all of those in your list, in 1984.

Guiliani wins all of our solid Red states and makes us quite competitive in more than a few blue states.

If his views on abortion or gun control haven't changed since he was Mayor of NYC, he'll lose in the red states. He wouldn't even win over many Democrat votes in Montana just on those two issues. Especially in my county. Montana has it's share of Hollyweird leftists, but thankfully none of them live where I do.

The counsel on Foreign Relations sets the standards. It’s near impossible to explain the agenda of the CFR/RIIA to form a world government. It is already set up...just waiting for the next signal and provocation.

What a riot! Unless one is an illegal alien! Couldn't do that now could we Rudy?

You'll have to take it up with 'your buddy.'

His attack on me makes no sense whatsoever.

If I'm not free to oppose Hillary Clinton on a conservative forum, then this place is in bad shape.

In fact, starting tomorrow, I am thinking about starting a thread to pray for this forum and the upcoming election, and all those who are working for getting the conservative message out, and that none of us get blinded from the things that really matter.

Because that is EXACTLY what's been happening to me.

I didn’t understand that either (”pro-military foreign policy conservative”). I’m for a strong national defense, strong nat’l security—but I don’t particularly like our leaders to be “Pro-Military” without further definition. I’d like to see more of what Rudy truly believes (or what his handlers may be pushing for).

I forgot to ping you to my follow-up question.

I refused to support Arnold even though I share some of his liberal values. I knew Arnold was going to be Gray Davis’s stunt double. I voted Libertarian for Governor in 2006 in California. I knew Arnold was not honest. I know Rudy would probally be just as bad as Arnold. Never going to vote for Hillary or Gore or Obama, but I will likely vote third party for president.

“Conservatives such as those at FR aren’t necessarily bound by this expedience. They’re playing a longer-term game - the soul of the country. If it takes Hillary! winning a term or two in order to re-orient the GOP, then so be it.”

Screw that! You think we can save the house by burning it down? You know what 8 years of ...hillary “most likely gore” would do regarding are military and SCOTUS picks. I tell you what if you really believe that tell that to the next Marine who is humiliated by having to salute the next POTUS Hillary Clinton. Me thinks you’d be looking for a emergency ward.

1984 was 23 years ago. A lot has changed since then. Plus, Guiliani is no Reagan.

If his views on abortion or gun control haven't changed since he was Mayor of NYC, he'll lose in the red states.

Not if his opponent is Hillary or Obama.

We aren't arguing whether Rudy is a Republican, we are arguing whether he is a conservative.

Exactly. Rudy is not a Conservative - he's a Republican. Since this website is oriented toward conservative issues, I'm not sure why discussions concerning the GOP are even relevant.

Conservatives who wish to participate in the GOP nomination process are in many ways RINOs. They're Republicans in Name Only in that they don't really support the broad coalition of positions that define the party.

Supporting Rudy's efforts to win the GOP nomination has about as much relevance at FR as postulating that Hillary! will win the Dem's. Neither has much to do with Conservatives.

The bottom line is that without a Reagan on the horizon who can define conservative ideals and sell them to the public, the GOP is going to move to the left in order to preserve political power. Rudy is the result of that calculus.

Conservatives are going to have to take a sabbatical in order to refine, polish & prepare the message for when a suitable standard-bearer appears. FR represents an excellent forum in which to hone this pitch.
