You think that the Declaration of Independence was signed without any discussion and planning about independency’s effects? That the Founding Fathers did not take steps to secure plans for alliances in the fight (how do you think France got involved)? What was the Continental Congress doing if not debating the risks and rewards of independence, and how to form a new government that fixed the mistakes of the past and avoided anarchy and totalitarianism?
In short, do you have any idea what you’re talking about?

So glad that you were able to memorize battle dates and such. But honestly, what kind of course on the American Revolution doesn’t go into the debates and strategies and underlying events before the war?
Here’s a tip. Pick up “The Founding of a Nation” By Merrill Jensen, instead of skimming Cliffs Notes. You’ll get a clue about the true heroism of the Founding Fathers as they dealt with the messy realities of revolution.

I think planning ahead is great. I do so myself. What was pissing me off was the blithe calls for revolution and soaking American soil with blood as if it were no more difficult or expensive than a game of paintball.

The liberal supreme courts have super legistated from the bench and have derailed our constitution, long ago. Evidently the framers didnt fully protect the constitution from judical tyrrany.

Thanks for your posts. You weren’t rambling at all. I think about this a lot these days. Katrina was a little bit of a wake up call even though I live far away from that area. I told my brother the other I would be up poop creek without a Wal-Mart. That’s where my family’s food comes from mostly. I’m slowly trying to stock up a little bit though just in case something goes really wrong.
a) I assume almost all Americans agree on most of the bill of rights (freedom of speech, freedom of religion, equality under law, etc.)-- What about the 2nd Amendment? What actually constitutes 'establishment' of religion? When does the 'separation' of church and state become a policy of official atheism and a suppresion of religion? Try these new "Appendices":
1. Congress shall be neutral in matters of religion, neither approving nor prohibiting the public display or exercise of religious belief by Citizens. Congress shall not regulate the spoken or printed word, neither aiding nor preventing any Citizen in the expression in words of any idea. Congress shall neither prevent nor assist the peaceable gathering of Citizens for any purpose whatsoever, especially when such a gathering is purposed to demonstrate the will and petition of the Citizens. The concept in law of criminal thought or speech is abolished. To be criminal, it must be an overt act of force or fraud.
2. The right of the Citizen to weapons is inviolate. A Citizen may own weapons, carry them from place to place openly or concelaed, obtain such materials as enable maintenance and lawful use of them, without hindrance, regulation, or taxation. Any attempt to disarm a Citizen not in the commission of a crime shall constitute Treason, and be punished by public hanging.
3. Citizens will not be compelled to house agents of the government, civil or military.

Many posters seem to have forgotten that this country has gone through several periods of civil unrest. Burning cities and rioters in the streets are not new.

Well, I guess anyone who doesn’t understand that min bids and reserves are set by some sellers, and never by GB, could become the butt of a few jokes too.
All the more reason to attend every town meeting you can and show your Senators and Congresscritters that the nation isn't populated entirely by welfare queens. You have to remember these folks live in the bubble that exists inside the beltway. Small business owners are the very backbone of this nation and we are under assault. Senators and Congresscritters need to be reminded regularly who employs the vast majority of workers in this nation and it is those workers who provide the welfare for the people who can't (or won't) work.
It's ours to lose, folks, and when it's gone we'll have no one to blame but ourselves.....
I attended public school from kindergarten through 12th grade and I experienced quite a few teachers who were there by choice and literally could not do anything else. Many were coaches first and teachers second. I had one coach that "taught" elemental biology and it was obvious to everyone from day one he was in way, way over his head. I had another coach/teacher who tried to teach Algebra, but he, too, was in way, way over his head. I also had one English teacher in 9th grade, a black man, who was about as close to illiterate as anyone I've ever seen in such a position. This guy had been there for 20 years and it was obvious that the rest of the faculty knew what he was all about, but they were afraid to do anything for fear of cries of racism. I also had teachers who were brilliant at what they did and it showed with their relationship with the students. Trouble is, there isn't a sure fire way of weeding out the bad ones....

The first time I saw that quote was in the late ‘90’s. Her “tagline” around that time was “too late to work within the system, too soon to shoot the b_____rds”.
I’m quite familiar with her more-famous quote, but had never heard the other.

There was an essay I read before she went on her hiatus around late 1999. The essay contained the “when will I know its time for armed ressistance” guidance.
And with all due respect to the posters that (acurately) brokedown the 1/3 for, 1/3 against, and 1/3 ambivalent support of the American Revolution, the initial outbreak took place in an area where support was much higher. It took a long time before there was sufficient support in the South to sustain a revolution there.
If it comes down to it, the perpetual victim class, dependent on the government to steal from produceers to provide their subsistence, will definately be against ressisting the government. That group is mostly confined to the large cities, but in rural areas, the far west, and the south, support for armed resistance will be much higher...
