What has happened to Free Republic? [What difference at this point can it possibly make?]

Posted on 03/17/2016 3:13:11 PM PDT by katwoman5779

Since Obuma was elected to POTUS, I have been coming to Free Republic to get news, opinions and a few laughs. Most of the serious posts were bemoaning the out of control government and what could be done about it. "Oh Whoa is Me!". Then along comes a constitutional conservative. For the first time since Ronald Reagan, we have a constitutional candidate running for the GOP nomination. This man was elected by conservatives to go to Washington and stand up to the elites that no longer listen to the American people. He didn't go to Washington and "fall in" with the crowd. He went there and stood up to them just like he said it would - calling a spade a spade. I'm sorry, but I don't understand how otherwise intelligent people can fall for the likes of Donald Trump. This man was donating to the same people we were fighting to throw out of office the last eight years. Suddenly he is a conservative after years of joining with the liberals to promote big fat bloated government. He is not an outsider. He has been greasing the palms of the slime bags in Washington for 30 years. He can't even define what conservatism is. Wake up America. You are no better than the sycophants that suck up to Obuma. You can't see that Trump is just pushing your buttons with his rhetoric - just like Obuma pushed his sycophants buttons. The hate I see on Free Republic for Ted Cruz, Mark Levin and all the other great conservative leaders remind me of liberal websites. It is disgusting.

Trump's slogan -- reflected by the famous baseball cap -- is "Make America Great Again!"

Obama carried around a book called "The Post-American World" and promised that "we are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America" -- after hanging around with a self-confessed literal terrorist, affiliated with the Weather Underground (William Ayers); and his wife said, "For the *first* time in my life, I'm proud of my country."

You're right. Trump and Obama MUST be two peas in a pod.

I supported Cruz more than Trump for most of last year but I ended up voting for Trump because I believe he has the spine and the resources to stand up to the GOP and then to demolish Hillary.

I still like Ted but Ted’s too nice a guy to get down in the gutter and square off with Hillary.

As much as it would be nice to have a polite, studied, and intelligent statesman as President I find myself wanting someone who Putin will respect, China won’t ignore, and who the Muslims will fear.

I am sorry but I don’t see those qualities in Ted because he’s too good a person.

Right now I want a mean bastard as President and that mean bastard is Donald Trump.

Non eligible, not Natural Born Citizens, Cubans, Chihuahua Prespiration Marko and Pinocchio Desperation Ted attacking Big Donald at CNN freestyle match.

Cruz "character":
1. Phony summonses mailed out, scaring people to vote for Cruz.
2. Claiming Carson quit, presinc captains told voters "vote for Cruz"
3. Campaigning in the 800 churches, showing video "vote for me" with his preacher/father stomping for him. Rafael Cruz is a 7 Mountain Dominionist and believes his son is the anointed one.
4. "Brilliant" lawyer, did not know he was Canadian citizen and that he is not Natural Born Citizen, not eligible for office of P or VP.
5. Making phony video advertising with lies about opponents.
6. Phony video about Rubio - Obama.
7. 7 Mountain Dominionist Church = Christian???
Just enough to beat Trump in IA, apologize, rinse and repeat?
Liar is the polite term for this Cuban. His father was pro-communist in Cuba, imprisoned by Batista, but now he is refugee?

IRREFUTABLE AUTHORITY HAS SPOKEN
(Oct. 18, 2009) The Post & Email has in several articles mentioned that the Supreme Court of the United States has given the definition of what a "natural born citizen" is. Since being a natural born citizen is an objective qualification and requirement of office for the U.S. President (and VP), it is important for all U.S. Citizens to understand what this term means.
http://www.thepostemail.com/2009/10/18/4-supreme-court-cases-define-natural-born-citizen/
Applies to Cruz and Rubio, both at the time not born to US citizens and on US soil.

Do you handle snakes too?

You know, you might have given one of the *best* reasons to vote for Cruz.

If he does handle snakes regularly, maybe *he* can take on Pelosi and Reid.

But I don't see much of a track record of success there.

“FR conservatives didn’t leave Ted Cruz. Climbing careerist Ted Cruz left us.”

Cruz’ blind ambition led to shameless whoring and serial lying. There’s nothing he won’t do or say, and no alliance he won’t make, to arrive at his self-serving goal.

But I don’t mean that in a bad way, ;-}

The idea of 'ideological purity' misses the mark, although it makes a good rhetorical cudgel. Trump and Cruz have completely different political philosophies.

For me, Cruz represents the only viable alternative.

Now I will trade a marxist authoritarian for a capitalist one any day, but I'd rather than either of those I'd prefer a leader that recognizes the proper traditional role of government in this country.

Ironically, I was just looking for another Donald Trump book to buy on Amazon. (I already have “Crippled America.”) And it is fascinating to read about his positions on the economy, the military, American exceptionalism, etc haven’t changed at all over the years.

This man is a great patriot and is full of common sense that this country desperately needs. To the original poster of this thread I would simply say this, I have never enjoyed Free Republic as much as I have this election cycle. With Trump rallies, the result nights, the interesting conversations between Trump supporters, and yes, even with some fair-minded Cruz supporters.

No, I don’t believe that Donald Trump is a liberal in disguise, because he has too much of his past, conservative positions on paper. And as far as his liberal, social positions, I would remind you that he has had personal experiences over the years that made him rethink those positions. Incidentally, I heard him say, long before he became a presidential contender, that he was not for gay marriage. And I don’t believe for one minute that he will be trying to fund abortion.

If you want to vote for Ted Cruz, that’s your privilege. But after learning much more about his connections with globalists and the Bush family, I think he is the one you may find is the real charlatan in this election.

I will bet that 98% of your responses will be three single syllabic responses, slightly beyond grunts and farts (how could distinguish between the two?). This is not of the FreeRepublic of old, that is gone forever. This is the first election of the Idiocracy Era and both sides are in full cry. This is exactly what the media has tried to fashion.

May the media go to hell, and those of you idiots you follow them blindly, may you follow.

Interesting. You employ the very tactic you ascribe to others.

Cruz outperforms Trump against Hillary in every general election poll.

Wow, and da Cruzers call Trump supporters insane...

Good luck all, by the look of this thread we're gonna need a LOT of it...

I love these anti-wall fvcktards. Obama was able to finance Fast 'n Furious, Benghazi and who knows what other illegal & anti-American activities from endless 'dark pool' budgetary allocations, but a wall that would form part of important defensive perimeter?

No, a thousand time oh noes, can't be done! LOL

Cruz is now establishment. He’s their only hope Obi Wan.

Sadly, though I think you really believe you’re voicing your heartfelt concern for our republic, you’ve been sold out by the uniparty/media/one worlders. Sorry darlin. There seem to be two choices ... same-old ... or chaos.

I’m good with chaos.

Vote Trump.

Amd why is a deal a problem? There are good deals, and then there are the complete screw over deals that the gop has been handing us for the past 30 years.

I’m fine with a good deal. It just doesn’t exist in the current gop lexicon in between their favorite words words “capitulate” and “treachery.”

Who would be your first choice for Donald Trump's running mate?

Who would be your first choice for Donald Trump's running mate?

I share and amplify your sentiments, Jeff, with a similar long view.

I find it disturbing that Cruz, with his conservative bonafides, is attacked ruthlessly here. Cruz has such solid credentials, and is so brilliant, such a great debater, and has such a solid grasp of the issues, I never would have guessed he would be derided to the degree seen here at FR. He’s the only known, true conservative in the race, and it’s been that way since the beginning of the race.

I’m not comfortable with all the craven attacks on Trump, either.

Trump is a wild card, the Joker in the deck. He has no voting record, not having been in politics. He’s supported Dems in the past, but he has the convenient excuse of having needed to spread his money around to both sides to grease the wheels of business. So he has a built-in excuse for his lack of consistency. And he never seems to have a detailed knowledge of the issues.

But I will give credit to Donald Trump for shaking up the entire paradigm of the presidential election cycle. Before, the media could find a tiny politically incorrect statement a Republican has made, then amplify it to embarrass the candidate, then force the other Repubs to go on-record to denounce the “gaffe” by their competitor, putting more distance and animosity between the candidates. All the while ignoring every Democrat’s flubs (how else could Joe Biden have survived?).

This time is different, thanks to Trump. The media is baffled by him, and so are all the prominent political pundits. Thanks to Trump, all the Republican candidates are willing to fight back — something Democrats never have to do, since they are never attacked by the sympathetic media. Republicans don’t have to be ashamed of conservatism, or put up with media abuse. Trump has changed the rules. He speaks spontaneously, and wins. He gets free media play in gross disproportion to his opponents. The conventional thinking is, after the Citizens United case only big money can win elections — but Jeb! and his superpac team spent over 2 thousand dollars per vote and lost. Meanwhile Trump gets free publicity and sweeps the elections, exactly the opposite of the outcome sought by the liberal media. He has confronted, violated, broken, and cast aside the conventional model of political campaigns.

We don’t have to worry about Trump choking in the debate with Hillary (if she survives her scandals that long), because he will attack. He won’t pull his punches. He won’t shy away from mention of Benghazi, or let Candy Crowley rush in to rescue her candidate (like she did for Obama). Her recent absurd quotes will haunt her (’we didn’t lose one person in Libya’). And she’d better not even THINK about bringing up the ‘war on women’. There are plenty of quotes and actions from her to destroy her credibility there.

Yes, I’m a Cruz supporter, and he still could get the nomination. But I think Trump COULD make a good president, and the wild card is an obviously better choice than ANY Democrat, including Hilary the corrupticrat or Bernie the commie.

So if Trump wins fairly, or if the GOPe tries to rob him, I will support him. He will be the most (likely) conservative candidate who can win.

beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

(Newser) – Americans don’t think the country as a whole is all that bright, but they point the finger at other people instead of themselves. A new survey by YouGov finds that 55% of Americans consider themselves smarter than the average American.

http://www.newser.com/story/186962/most-americans-think-theyre-smarter-than-most-americans.html

As the old saying goes - it seems nice guys really do finish last.

A new study has shown that overconfident people are more likely to land the best jobs in life as they can fool others into believing they are more talented than they really are.

Experts behind the research also claim that successful people who have an inflated view of their own abilities could partially explain disasters such as the banking collapse in 2008.

Those who were overconfident were still over-rated by others.

Study author Dr Vivek Nityananda, research associate at Newcastle University’s Institute of Neuroscience, said: ‘These findings suggest that people don’t always reward the most accomplished individual but rather the most self-deceived.
