Dennis Miller's comedy act
Personal

Posted on 01/16/2003 10:27:33 AM PST by LtLFtP

Hey there, Long time Lurker, First time Poster Here.

Yesterday, I saw Dennis Miller perform in Milwaukee. Intrigued by his recent interviews on late night TV, where, much to my suprise, he tells the nation that he is proud of the man who's restored dignity to the presidency, I figured it'd be worth my $30 to go see him.

For those of us who have read his older books, or suffered through an episode of politically incorrect, THIS IS NOT THE SAME DENNIS. A little of his material comes from the left, but by and large, he's conservative.

He's touring the country, doing this act in prepartaion for an HBO special (Watch out folks, this will be his last one; ever seen his old show? HBO is not gonna like this act at all). I just wanna let the FR community know to go catch his act. Without spoiling too much; here's a few highlights:

----------------------------- -He supports using our resources in Alaska, even at the expense of the Caribou (which he had to go look up, apparently they are North American reindeer who couldn't make santa's final cut). If the Caribou were to migrate to the lower 48, he claims the eco-Nazis would have us live in the ocean.

-He says that North Korea is EXACTLY why we should go to war with IRAQ. We oughta bomb the snot of Saddam, until the desert turns to glass, look of at Korea, flick our collective cuffs, and say "You sure you wanna piece of this?"

-He says liberals in America haven't offered him anything new since they tried to make Rudy Guliani look like Hitler. Any man who can be compassionate while having giant balls of steel is an asset to our country. He says if you take a look at NYC before and after Rudy, you'll realize that most of could only dream of being a person this great (whom Miller thinks will hold the vice presidency next term).

-He said that the country is so @ss-backwards I wish I was dyslexic, and the oppressed minority has become the majority. Then goes on a tirade about political correctness and the obese sueing McDonald's and seatbelt manufacturers.

-He says that liberals in his home state of California have tried to convince him that since he doesn't like paying 30% in federal taxes, plus 10 more for Cali, he drives SUV, and smokes cigarettes; then HE SUPPORTS THE SLAUGHTER OF THE CARIBOU AND TERRORISM. Which leads him to his own revelation: If you don't support using our reserves in Alaska, and the war on Iraq, then YOU SHOT ABE LINCOLN. :)

- Much More. -----------------------------

Really funny... watch out for the HBO special, or see if he's coming to your town. Nice to see a media personality tell it like it is.

He really had me in stitches, and any die hard liberal in the audience probably left really crabby. (Hence no standing ovation.) As a demi-pop culture comic, his audience wasn't too right wing. Had they been, the ovations woulda been one after another.

He just said things that media guys just aren't supposed too. Which is why I hereby wish to put some FReepers on alert.

Don't miss your chance to catch his act, he won't get work on any channel but FOX news after his HBO special.

A review of Dennis Miller's stand up act I saw last night; for those of us who know him from politically incorrect: prepare to be shocked. He's fully converted to a conservative and a bush-backer. The only stand up comic who's actually got it right.

Has his stance on guns changed? He was a big-time supporter of the Million Mom March.

Nah. He's just "seen the light" and has reinvented himself as a conservative.

I always enjoyed Dennis Miller because sometimes you had to look things up to get his jokes.

Dennis is very intelligent, and has always shared some views with conservatives and libertarians. He supports some socialism and some authoritarianism, but probably no more than the typical "Republican".

Also remember, he is a comedian. His job is to make jokes at the expense of whoever he can. He can not totally alineate any potential audience. The things you mentioned that he made jokes of are typically ultra-left ideas that the average person, whether "conservative" or "liberal" do not particularly subscribe to.

I have always liked him because of his intelligent humor.

After the initial annoyance of hearing him on Monday night football it became clear that he was conservative. It's a shame he was put in such a ridiculous venue when he admitted to knowing NOTHING about football. I wish him well!

I always enjoyed Miller's show on HBO, but did not like him on MNF.

I believe it and his show will be a smash hit and any books he writes will be automatic best sellers. We all know who REALLY buys books. And maybe, just maybe, some of the other Conservatives in Hollywood who have been living in fear will now come forward. Just might start becoming hip to be Conservative. well.. can dream, can't I?

I've often thought that "comedian Dennis Miller" was oxymoronic.

Perhaps he's seen the explosive success of FOXNews, and realizes there is a gold mine audience out there begging for entertainment. Fox has revealed a 'hidden' treasure trove of people that are not being given what they want by Hollyweird/Big Media. Dennis Miller seems to have come to his senses, but I'll hold out and see where he goes with it. Maybe some other stars will be emboldened to come out of the 'conservative closet'.

I had the opportunity to meet him a number of years ago when he came into a video store where I worked. THis was during the SNL years. We had a nice chat about the book "Outrageous Conduct" that had just been published, and what a slime John Landis is. After he left I regretted not asking him if Dana Carvey was someone you really needed to slap after spending a few minutes with him.

Of late, I've been imaging a Fox News nightly startup featuring Dennis Miller in a news update show, with some lefty opposite. Mealtime humorous banter to lead in to the rest of the night's program.

He wasn't meant for football, and ABC went to the other extreme by hiring the most bumbling idiot available in sports comedy.

I forgot to mention that he goes off on Bill, Hitlery Clintler, the Democrats KKK member (the name escapes me), the Lott debacle... and Jimmy Carter.

The Jimmy Carter bit had me in tears. He said anybody owning a Peace Prize won by Yasser Arafat probably sucked d*ck as a president.

I doubt he'll be getting a job with any network but fox after this goes public.

And I hear Ya on the conservative media closet.

The last thing I want to do is go see a comedy act that I have to go home and do some research to figure out what he was saying and wether or not it was funny.

" It's a shame he was put in such a ridiculous venue when he admitted to knowing NOTHING about football. "

I just read somewhere, a quote from Miller-he had never been to a football game of any kind-in his entire life!!What were they thinking at MNF??!! Did the elites at ABC, think we wouldn't notice?? Kudos to Miller and James Woods for bucking the Hollywood liberals and speaking the truth.

He wrote in his book that Clinton leaving the White House was like "Kid Rock leaving the Motel 6." LOL
