What the hell is going on in Afghanistan? Media reports suggest that they are breaking world records for the most heroin ever produced by a country, and drug lords rule large parts of the countryside. The only area under civilized rule is the capital, Kabul, where President Karzai travels with the protection of the US military. Sen. Tim Johnson, the Democratic Senator from South Dakota, recently criticized what he described as the Taliban wing of the Republican Party. Sen. I had an interesting debate yesterday with a group of pro-life activists, who are trying to make their case against abortion, by comparing our society's tolerance for abortion with the tolerance for slavery that existed in America in the 1800s. The Secretary of Health and Human Services, Tommy Thompson, recently launched a campaign to reduce the 400,000 deaths caused in America each year by obesity.
