(Cincinnati) -- On Friday, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters issued a subpeona for records related to some of the voters who registered and cast their ballots on the same day during early voting. Deters said he had "numerous credible complaints" of irregularlities. But the Hamilton County Election Board and Ohio Secretary of State's office said they had no record of complaints. But in an interview with 700WLW's Bill Cunningham, Deters said his staff reviewed 610 ballots cast, and found 266 with problems. He says 166 "voters" apparently don't exist. Another 100 had the wrong address listed on their voter registration...

The headlines scream doom. There are endless references to the economic situation being "the worst since The Great Depression." Immense names in finance have collapsed and sunk beneath the waves of the financial crisis. Please allow me to try to explain a bit of what's going on. First of all, all you have to do is look around you to see that in terms of daily life, we are not anywhere near The Great Depression. Unemployment is barely about six percent. It was 25 percent at the nadir of The Great Depression. Real per capita incomes adjusted for inflation are...
  • Ohio Supreme Court rejects local gun law

A statewide law giving Ohioans the right to carry concealed weapons, even in parks, takes precedence over a city's ability to regulate firearms, the state Supreme Court said yesterday in a ruling that wipes out local gun laws. The court's 4-3 decision struck down a small Sandusky County town's ban on firearms in city parks, but also is expected to invalidate assault-weapons restrictions in other cities, including Columbus and Cleveland.

( Cincinnati ) The latest Ohio Poll, conducted by the Institute for Policy Research at the University of Cincinnati, shows John McCain holding a slight lead over Brack Obama. 48% of likely voters said they would vote for McCain, versus 44% for Obama.

I just logged into my Yahoo account and these were the featured Associated Press headlines: "A housing issue: McCain not sure how many they own (AP)" "Governor: Kaine thinks he's on Obama's short list (AP)" "Obama inspires black Republicans to switch parties (AP)" "Campaigns vie over whether McCain is Bush clone (AP)" "Obama casts McCain as rich, out of touch (AP)" My only question is, does Hussein Obama's campaign pay the AP a retainer?

SUPREME INSULT According to five shysters on the Supreme Court, terrorists -- including the architect of the September 11 attacks -- who have been captured by the United States military in the course of prosecuting a congressionally declared war have a constitutional right to appeal their case in federal civilian courts. This means that, for example, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed -- a Kuwaiti -- now has the same constitutional due process rights as you, me and the thousands of Americans he murdered on September 11, 2001. In other words, the Supreme Ambulance Chasers sent this message to the rest of the...

Deadly Home Invasion Columbus police say an East Side resident shot and killed a 19-year-old man who had broken into his apartment. By Christy Chatman - Thursday, April 3, 2008 Detectives say it appears the East Side resident who shot and killed a 19-year-old man early Thursday morning was acting in self-defense. A Franklin County Grand Jury will review the evidence. Police say Jermaine A. McCrary broke into the apartment at 2936 E. Fifth Ave. just before 2 a.m. and assaulted a man and woman. McCrary was armed and during the struggle he was shot by one of the residents,...

( Cincinnati ) -- Some reports claim the on-going controversy involving 700 WLW talk show host Bill Cunninham and presidential candidate John McCain has the potential to impact the results of the 2008 election. Ohio is a key state in the presidential election. For Republicans it is essential that they win as much support as possible in southwest Ohio to counter the strong Democratic party support in the Cleveland area. Political Science professor Jason Johnson from Hiram College spoke to the Cincinnati Enquirer and told them John McCain needs radio talk show listeners and Willie fans to go his way,...

Uptown Lefties Live Down To Their Reputation IT takes guts to be a conservative in Manhattan. Norman Podhoretz entered the lion's den when he read from his bestseller "World War IV" at Barnes & Noble on Broadway at 82nd Street on Thurs day night. The Upper West Siders were polite enough during the reading, but started "caus ing a ruckus" during the Q&A, especially after Podhoretz opined, "It may be necessary to bomb Iran." Reports a witness: "A front- row audience member became so irate that a staff member had to go over to quiet him. Then a lady stood...

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) -- Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis said Monday that quarterback Jimmy Clausen's citation for transporting alcohol as a minor is a simple case of ignorance of the law. "I think it's out of ignorance -- and by ignorance I mean lack of knowledge," Weis said. "I don't think he was defiantly trying to get himself into trouble with the law." Weis said he himself didn't know it was illegal for someone who's underage -- Clausen is 19 -- to drive someone who is of legal drinking age to a liquor store to buy alcohol. He used...

RAMADI, Iraq: Sunni merchants watched warily from behind neat stacks of fruit and vegetables as Lieutenant General Raymond Odierno walked with a platoon of bodyguards through the Qatana bazaar here one recent afternoon. At last, one leathery-faced trader glanced furtively up and down the narrow, refuse-strewn street to check who might be listening, then broke the silence. "America good! Al Qaeda bad!" he said in halting English, flashing a thumb's-up in the direction of the second-ranking U.S. commander in Iraq.

  • Scottish Police Constable: Don't Be Mean to Muslims

Just finished watching Scottish Chief Constable Willie Rae's press conference regarding the Glasgow airport terrorist attack. Near the end of his prepared statement he warned, in so many words, that retaliatory harassment of any "minority" group wouldn't be tolerated. Perhaps I missed it but I didn't hear Constable Rae warning terrorists not to attack Scotland. This is so typical in the West. Islamic terrorists attack us and and government reacts by warning the victims not to offend Muslims.

Yesterday I received a mass email from RNC Chairman Mike Duncan ripping Harry Reid for his latest attacks on our military leaders. What follows is my reply, which I cc'd to the White House and the offices of John McCain, Trent Lott, Lindsey Graham and the perpetually tearful George Voinovich ... "Mr. Duncan: The attacks on conservatives by President Bush, Senator Graham, Senator McCain and Senator Lott regarding the immigration issue are just as egregious as Harry Reid's treasonous slurs about our great military. "And even more disheartening is that my senator, Mr. Voinovich, supports the Bush/Kennedy amnesty monstrosity. (Given...

Broadsides May 21, 2007 Reforming The Reform A few days ago, the county animal-control authority said it was considering going door-to-door to find "undocumented dogs". In other words, the county government is going to track down people who own unlicensed dogs. It should make for some interesting moments. Canine versions of Sophie's Choice come to mind -- "Take the female dog! She's a bitch!" Or jackbooted dogcatchers storming a house to seize Elian the unlicensed chihuahua from his owner. So the county dogcatcher has the means and methods to track down god-knows-how-many people with illegal pooches ... but, we're told,...
