Neanderthal Flute

That we would have a scale virtually unique to that flute (possibly matching some other obscure scale in some parts of the world, but not matching any known historically widespread scale in use). The problem with this non-conclusion is that since the hole-spacings discussed in this essay have only a one-in-hundreds chance to match a pattern of 4 notes in the diatonic major/minor scales, then this conclusion would require accepting a remarkable against-the-odds coincidence of spacings.

I saw Neanderthal Flute when they opened for Saxon in 1984. They never hit it as big as they should have.

My favorite NF album was probably Red Ochre. That's probably true of most of their fans.

In 1995, archaeologist Ivan Turk discovered a unique perforated bone in the Divje Babe cave in Slovenia. The artefact was found in the middle of a palaeolithic layer of earth, near the remains of a Neanderthal fire place, stone and bone tools.

Extensive experimental research confirmed that the holes in the bone were hand-made and that the bone was likely a neanderthal flute, between 50,000 to 60,000 years old. This makes it the world’s oldest musical instrument and an object that could re-write our assumptions about the fundamental humanity of our Neanderthal cousins.

Pan pipes used by ancient western South Americans used the same scale as those made by south sea Pacific islanders.

There is complex mathematics involved in the making of flutes.

The Neanderthals were way more intelligent than we give them credit for................

I got that from an old book called Early Man in the New World by McGowan and Hester. They also showed South American architecture which was identical to some from the south sea Pacific.

HA! I didn’t fall for your indexing scheme of a 17 year old article this time.
