;^)
just got fed up metro police chiefs giving out get out of jail free cards and permits to carry to all their retired
buddies while denying everyone else's carry permits.(this was before MN passed right to carry reform-now the chiefs can sit and spin.)
I don't see why police are a special case and get special
rights.
When I'm elected President I'll ban cell phones and disco music, and that'll be the end of that!
Force people? How was she forcing people. Let's not toss around criminal terms if they don't apply.
Does your interpretation mean that if I feel like it I can drive down a residential street at 4:00 am honking my horn for no apparent reason? Isn't my horn simply an extension of my voice?
Red Herring. Stay focused here. I never said anything about car horns. Sheesh!
Then again you could say that it is amplified, sure, then can I walk down that same street and yell at the top of my lungs at the same hour? No you can't, why?
What does 4am have to do with this? Are you saying it's OK to walk down the street shouting at 4pm? Because, actually, it is. End of story.
I am also trying to come to grips with the idea of someone being told to keep it down as being some sort of thought control.
The officer said he doesn't like cell phones. He used "cursing" as his excuse to question this woman. What a hero! As to the bias against cell phones, if you yell while not on a cell phone in the Metro they will tell you to keep it down.
Another red herring. The officer mentioned cell phones. Please try to stay on task here. I am disgusted by all the FReepers who seem to be supporting an agent of the government telling a woman who is not committing a crime to act in a certain way. I support the police in real matters, like here in Portland when a few uncooperative drug fiends have been shot. That, I understand. But tackling a woman for cursing on her phone? RIDICULOUS.
She was charged with two misdemeanors: "disorderly manner that disturbed the public peace" and resisting arrest
She was swearing loudly into a cell phone which is "disturbing the peace". Granted it can be interpreted rather leniently, but that's the way it is.
Obviously, the officer had asked her to quiet down and would have let her be if she had merely complied. However, she decided to inform the cops of her rights and I am sure in a most profane manner.
He had no choice at this point. And I see nothing wrong with what he did.
Should a cop just ignore someone screaming profanities in a public place because no real crime has been commited, or as you put it "the crime was over". That argument doesn't work for bank robbers either.
Quit being a dumbass, it just makes life harder.
Disturbing the peace is a crime. Resisting arrest is a crime.
I have to side with the cop on this one. The loudmouth was obviously playing hookey from Commonsense School the day they taught the lesson on not sassing large, uniformed men who wear a badge and carry firearms. And she jeopardized the health of her own baby to boot, all for the sake of a little street theater on her part.
I hope her baby is all right. Its not his fault his jerk mother-to-be has an attitude.
talking louder and slower only works when speaking to people who don't speak English<sarcasm
She wasn't screaming profanities. You need to read the article...you are making assumptions.
Since I don't know your area, I can't really comment on your last post. However, I would not lump all cops nation wide into what you see as a travesty in your area. Cops who are retired have carried for many years already. Are there bad apples? Sure. There are. But by and large a guy putting his butt on the line for 30+ years and making it to retirement (provided it's good to go) should have no reason but to carry nation wide. Favor's from chief's is another story and needs to be dealt with at your local level.
Sounds like a bully to me. If that was the cops attitude, he probably got practice in Middle School picking on little girls and making them give him their milk money.
you mean because she is black? does her not being married have ANYTHING to do with the arrest? or maybe just your bigotry?
Active cops can now carry legally in all states but I need to see a source that says retired cops can.
In Illinois retired cops can't carry at all without a license from the local police department where they served and they do not automatically give them out to their retirees.
The kid will be in first grade before it gets to court :)
Transit Police and some Metro officials say Saoutis was protecting the peace by removing a woman who had overstepped the boundaries of civil behavior because she was loudly cursing into her phone.
Aaron acknowledged that she was loud on the phone but said she wasn't cursing and lobbed a profanity only after Saoutis grabbed her.
I'm going with the cop on this one.
Learn to read. It makes life easier.
I just don't see the "bully"-like behavior on his part here. She was given a legal order, she ignored his advice and gave him lip besides, and she paid the price.
By the way, since you are such a defender of maintaining an orderly atmosphere, you convinced me to do something i have never yet done on FR. I just called the forum police on you for calling me a dumb ass.
Go along quietly.
