Stephen Hawking Explains Spontaneous Creation in Discovery Channel Series

Stephen Hawking is squaring off with God, saying that God did not have a hand in creating the universe and that the "laws of science" can explain how the universe created itself from nothing.

In the premiere episode of The Discovery Channel’s latest series "Curiosity," set for Sunday at 8 p.m. ET, Hawking takes on the question: "Is There a Creator?"

Hawking, who has done extensive research on several contentious topics such as time travel, parallel universes and black holes, says that God was not necessary for the creation of the universe. He proposes that it is possible that the universe created itself out of nothing.

“Because these is a law such as gravity, the Universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the Universe exists, why we exist,” Hawking writes in his recently published book, The Grand Design.

During the episode, Hawking talks about experiments in which sub-atomic particles have been observed to appear from nowhere. He feels this is proof that the universe is self-creating, as the Big Bang started out as a particle smaller than an atom.

Hawking says it is likely the universe “popped into existence without violating the known laws of Nature.”

He uses his book to detail how discoveries by people have fleshed out the origin and structure of the universe, from Vikings observing eclipses to cosmology, the field dedicated to the study of the universe.

“I believe the discovery of these laws is mankind’s greatest achievement,” he said.

Once upon a time, Hawking didn’t rule out God’s involvement in the creation of the universe, stating in his 1988 book, A Brief History of Time, that if a complete theory was ever discovered, "we would know the mind of God."

Now, through his new book and corresponding "Is There a Creator?" episode, he attempts to dispel the theory posed by Sir Isaac Newton that the creation of the universe was set in motion by God.

“The question is: is the way the universe began chosen by God for reasons we can’t understand, or was it determined by a law of science. I believe the second,” Hawking writes in The Grand Design.

“If you like, you can call the laws of science ‘God,’ but it would be a personal God that you could meet, and ask questions.”

Among other topics to be addressed on the "Curiosity" series are “I, Caveman,” by "Supersize Me" director Morgan Spurlock and "Why Sex is Fun," by Maggie Gyllenhaal.

If he wants to talk about physics, I’m interested but outside his field he’s no different than anyone else.

He proposes that it is possible that the universe created itself out of nothing.

It's still gibberish even when a "smart" person says it.

“I believe the discovery of these laws is mankind’s greatest achievement,” he said.

The laws were there before we “discovered” them.

How did they rule out that the particles didn’t come from somewhere else, or somewhen else.

I’m sure he believes in the spontaneous generation of life, too.
Right?

Lawrence Krauss gave a good lecture on this. You should be able to find it if you google Krauss universe from nothing.

Goes something like, in a flat universe the total amount of energy is zero when add up energy and negative energy. Quantum fluctuations within the subatomic particles are what create something from nothing.

In the 1970s a British astronomer, Sir Frederick Hoyle, calculated the probability of spontaneous generation of a single celled organism. He determined that the probability of generating the proteins necessary to form a single celled organism was one chance in 1040,000. To put this in perspective, if an event has the probability of one chance in 1050 it is considered a mathematical impossibility.

Questions for Dr. Hawking: Who created these Laws of Nature of which you speak?

How does a thing create itself? Does that not mean that it existed before it created itself, thus preexisting its own creation? Is your head spinning at that idea? I know mine is.

“Because there is a law such as gravity...”

So where did the laws such as gravity come from?

Kinda like the “smart” Economists who tell us that Governments can create wealth by going into debt. That may be true in some circumstances, but not when most of the $$ is going to entitlements.

It’s like the joke, where the man goes up to God, and says, “We don’t need you anymore....we can create life, just like you did.” God says, “Ok, show me.” Then the man says, “Ok, let me start by getting some dirt.” God immediately cuts him off and says, “No...no....no....go make your own dirt.”

The law of spontaneous generation was disproved by Louis Pasteur through his vaccine breakthrough research. They almost threw him in prison for “speaking” heresy against science.

If we had kept with it we would have never thought that pathogens actualy pass from one person to the other, that parasitic possession is real and transmitable, thus mandating life saving measures of quarantining.

The same goes for the spirit or listening to liberal drivel or being amongst sinners.

The salient point is not whether Hawkins is right or not, but where did his mindset on the stuff come from? How was his science derived from this? I can hardly believe science is the genesis of the conclusions he comes with.

There is such a thing as theoretical physics and ideological theory, and often great errors and blindness are perpetrated in projecting shadows and reading datas to fit one’s theory and one’s depression to transmit to others.
