What the Republicans did, cleverly, was to establish effective "memes" in the minds of the public and the pundits... Bush became the "winner" of a dead heat, in the midst of an incomplete recount, when a premature victory was declared on her own unnecessary deadline by his Florida campaign co-chairwoman, who also held the crucial post of secretary of state... [I]t was clearly a shameless ploy to slam the door before the election escaped. A meme was born. The other effective GOP meme was the mantra, "we counted, and counted again, and then a third time." These words were chanted by Baker and the other Bush spokesmen until many Americans accepted them as a form of truth, even though it is clear that thousands of ballots were never counted at all. Another successful meme was the assault on the honesty of election judges and the courts in general. They were often characterized by the GOP as partisan crooks, unless their findings agreed with the Bush cause, in which case they were patriots.

Ebert still falsely claims that he's never changed his mind regarding a review, but Siskel pointed out that was false (I think it was the last Klaus Kinski film) to Jay Leno, who used that tidbit when he had them on the show. Instead of "oh, yeah, I forgot about that one" or "oops, ya caught me", he turned to Siskel and shouted, "you gave him that, didn't you?" I think that must have been during Leno's first six months as the host, it was early on in any case. The first six months' tapes were destroyed by Leno's order, because he was so awful. Ex-Porn Film Screenwriter Roger Ebert Pans Christian Movie Review Site
Washington, DC - In a recent newspaper column Q&A, film reviewer Roger Ebert responded to a question from a filmgoer who was deeply offended by movie reviews produced by the Child Care Action Project (CAP), a Texas-based ministry headed by Thomas A. Carder. The filmgoer said that CAP is "the most insulting movie site on the Web. Their lust for demeaning a film solely on its content (violence, sex, profanity) is annoying." Ebert agreed. He noted that "At www.capalert.com, few films seem innocent" and recommended another movie review site that offers "sane advice" about movies. Ebert apparently considers it "insane" for a Christian movie review site to consider profanity, explicit sex, and anti-Biblical messages in its analysis of films.
CAP provides what may be the most thorough analysis of films available on the Internet. Carder carefully analyzes each film to give parents a detailed overview of objectionable content. Parents can then make up their own minds about what films their children may see. Carder's site can help parents pinpoint films that may seem innocent on the surface, but that contain messages or images that violate the Christian beliefs of those parents.
It is not surprising that Roger Ebert would be immune from concerns over explicit sex, violence, anti-Christian messages, or profanity in movies. Ebert was a screenwriter in the 1970s for Russ Meyer, one of the pioneers of mainstream pornographic films.
Ebert wrote the screenplay for Meyer's "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls," a sexually explicit film that ends with a bloody Charles Manson-like massacre. He also penned "Vixens," "Beneath the Valley of the Ultra-Vixens," and "Up." Writing under a pseudonym for "Up," Ebert created a pornographic film that featured a violent double rape scene that was apparently too disturbing even for Meyer's hard-core followers.
Given Ebert's love of pornography and violence, it would seem far more appropriate for concerned parents to consult the Child Care Action Project for movie reviews, than to depend upon Ebert for allegedly "sane" reviews of today's films. Ebert has obviously been desensitized to the point where he cannot clearly distinguish between right and wrong or good and evil. It is disheartening to think that so many filmgoers depend upon his advice for what they will see. Fortunately, CAP and Ted Baehr's www.movieguide.org web site offer other movie review options for parents.

Rog claims that the "re-edited" version "totally changes" the movie.
I still suspect that he trashed Vincent Gallo's film because he is an outspoken Republican (even if some conservatives don't like his work). It was taken to a personal level the way that Roger assailed Vincent in repeated articles.
Did Roger ever denounce the Catholic Church and the "League of Decency" which denounced certain films?
Did Roger denounce Joe Bob Briggs who's film reviews always included an accounting of the 3 B's in a drive-in film (Blood, Breasts, and Beasts; he would give the dead body count, number of breasts seen, and the Fu's like Kung Fu, Baseball Bat Fu...)?
I don't know. I stopped watching this left wing hog over a decade ago.
It is amazing what we find on when we do searches on the Bush Bashing Maggots in the MSM.
Yeah... well, back in 2000, when that column came out (actually, probably early in 2001, but I'm too lazy to check) a friend who's a foam at the mouth Dim emailed it to me (sans the URL, which I found later), so I'd been aware of it for some time. :') Naturally some other of that kind were favorably impressed and had posted it in entire (I found two or three other examples).
