I join in prayer for his full recovery!

I'm sure they feel he is stable. Otherwise they would wait for the surgery, I would think. I hope he IS stable. If it's emergency surgery, then I'm really concerned. I'm praying it's uneventful, and that the surgery solves the pancreas problem...

The ABC Radio report that just aired made it sound like this was done because it's a good time, his gall bladder had "cooled down". Guess that's a technical term :) But it sounds as though things are going the way the docs would like.

I was just on the message boards at DU, and they're wishing for his death! Some people have NO class.
To: ohioWfan
Thank you. That's reassuring.

What is the purpose of the gallbladder if it isn't a critical function of the body?

The gall stores and releases gall made by the liver, which helps in the digestion of fats.

Prayers continuing from our house.

Are you serious? Millions of people live without gallbladders, including me. The liver increases it's production of bile rather than store it, which is what the gall bladder does.
The adjustment takes about two weeks, during which time you lose 10 pounds due to very rapid elimination, if you know what I mean. :>)

PL, I'm not comparing you to a DU'er Yeah, he's worse.

Can you live without a gallbladder? Oh yes, and he's going to feel MUCH better after it's gone.
Well, I've been living without one since 1989... The immediate post-surgical time will be brutally painful, but he'll be fine after that. :)

Assuming there aren't complications, the recovery time for gall bladder surgery is about the same as for any type of 'routine' surgery of this nature .... approximately 6 weeks.
Daughter was 2 months pregnant when she had hers so she had to have the full surgery with the big incision. She spent a week in the hospital afterwards and still had drainage tubes when she went home.

Having had my gallbladder removed, I knew when they talked about pancreatitis that he most likely had gall bladder problems as well. Unfortunately, with that complication, I doubt Ashcroft is getting the laproscopic surgery so he'll have an extended recovery vs. the laproscopic procedure which is outpatient(think I stayed one night).
God's prayers for a successful surgery and a quick recovery.

I've been living without one now for 5 years. Unfortunately, there can be some nasty side effects and I have one of these--argh!
