Roe attorney: Use abortion to 'eliminate poor'

In unearthed letter urged President-elect Clinton to 'reform' country

A letter to Bill Clinton written by the co-counsel who successfully argued the Roe v. Wade decision urged the then-president-elect to "eliminate the barely educated, unhealthy and poor segment of our country" by liberalizing abortion laws. Ron Weddington, who with his wife Sarah Weddington represented "Jane Roe," sent the four-page letter to President Clinton's transition team before Clinton took office in January 1993.

The missive turned up in an exhibit put together by the watchdog legal group Judicial Watch, which has been researching the Clinton administration's policy on the abortion drug RU-486, notes James Taranto in the Wall Street Journal's Best of the Web.

Weddington qualified his statement, saying, "No, I'm not advocating some sort of mass extinction of these unfortunate people. Crime, drugs and disease are already doing that. The problem is that their numbers are not only replaced but increased by the birth of millions of babies to people who can't afford to have babies.

"There, I've said it. It's what we all know is true, but we only whisper it, because as liberals who believe in individual rights, we view any program which might treat the disadvantaged differently as discriminatory, mean-spirited and ... well ... Republican

Weddinton's brief letter to the NYT from 3 years ago confirms at least that what WND claims he said in the letter to Clinton is all of a piece with and the same worldview
as the historic eugenics, basically racist prescriptions/proscriptions of the TRUE right wing in American politics, ( and 20th Century World Politics, for that matter.) I therefore have no reason NOT to believe what is quoted in the WND. They rationalize abortion with the same kind of brutally practical reasoning they ascribe to the bigoted Right's DENIAL of abortion rights to women.
It is assumed that the primary motivation behind the pro-lifers is that they don't want to pay for other people's stupidity and fecklessness in a kind of paroxysm of selfish self-righteousness---- the Left however, only wants to pay for it TO A DEGREE, and of course, only with other people's money---their bottom line is always
"How much can we get away with, and who do we have to pander to to get away with it? And in the case of Weddington's Clinton letter "How much just might prove to be TOO MUCH, at what point could we get hurt politically?" Think about it--they, as we have always known, are the true racists, always putting the most angelic, altruistic, idealistic spin on their social policy, when basically all they wanted to do was to CONTROL the numbers of their beloved Underclass, because they assumed that all "those people" could ever do was require more and more benefits and programs from the socialist utopia the Left dreams about, more perhaps than the Left could ever deliver, if things got out of hand, right?, and then there would be a tipping point, and everything would implode on them and their entitlement constituency, and their image would be ruined, and take a generation or two to recover. The closer you look at Left thinking, the uglier it looks--real Progressive "hope for the future", huh?

Roger, on all you said.

Two surprises:

First, that Bill would have left the thing unburned, to be swept-up into archives...guess it was never delivered by the intern.

Second, that the NYT would publish more of the same....it's so hurtful to their cause....ammo for the moral....but, then again, how would one with no morals know what is and is not....moral.

Your analysis of the socialists...pandering....assessing degrees....is, I think, spot-on. I sort of came to the same conclusion after ruminating on the matter ....a lot. Another poster mentioned 'killing their constituents...'; but your model addresses the paradox. TX

After we left, my daughter commented to me that as awful as we try to make vengeance and hell seem in our movies, our minds can never fathom its reality.

he must make a lot of Dems very uncomfortable. I can't believe he didn't get a plane ticket to somewhere from Bill.

Liberals are able to say anything no matter how off-the-way and get a pass from the MSM. Look at John Conyers and Cindy Sheehan, Michael Moore and Henry Belafonte, just to name a couple of quick examples.

Look at articles in the MSM before 1939 about Hitler-- he was a dapper sharp dresser, a cultured icon who loved classical music and an ardent non-smoker who promoted health issues ahead of his time. He cared about the poor and revitalized a country broken after World War I, according to the MSM. My guess is that they would still be trying to cover for him had he not attacked their buddy Josef Stalin and run such a horrific chain of death camps that it simply couldn't have been ignored or covered up.

So they did the next best thing and changed him from a left-wing extremist to a right-wing extremist.

I am waiting on the liberals to start claiming that it is ok to kill a baby within its first week of life... Whats the difference between that and third trimester abortion... in any event they will claim that....Those folks that are too poor or those kids born with disease don't need to live it is just a burden on society think of all the welfare money the government will save... NUTS...

Anyone familiar with the history of Planned Parenthood and M.Sanger isn't at all surprised by this mindset. The Ohio RTL website used to carry hundreds of direct quotes from her "Birth Control Review"- not only hers, but quotes from some of academia's most sacred "saints", not the least of whom- W.E.B. DuBois, who thought it was important to sterilize "poor southern blacks" who were holding his race down. You can still find this quote on PP's website. The purpose is to make sure that people know that 'ole Maggie didn't say it- just supported it in her ragmag.

Sanger and her fellow travelers hated blacks, arabs, southern Italians, Jews and other "swarthy races". Her belief was that some should be allowed to live because the superior races should have servants, but that they should be forcibly sterilized.

Sanger also believed that those who represented those lesser races should be recruited (like DuBois) to lead them towards her view of what the world should look like. She also opposed abortion, vehemently, for the superior races. Sanger and her "heirs" and friends are evil elitists. Nothing more. http://www.plannedparenthood.org/pp2/portal/files/portal/medicalinfo/birthcontrol/bio-margaret-sanger.xml

I couldn't agree more, thank goodness there are some amongst us who see the future and are fighting against socialism where some love the status quo and will allow socialism to spread like wildfire while they attack those of us who will fight it with all we have.

So those who say we are the bad guys and we don't have any idea what survival is when we are fighting for the survival of this great Nation against all socialism and marxism the "holier than thou" crowd are satisfied with the status quo.

So true, but the only words that came to mind would probably get me banned. Now that my head is a bit cooler -- heartless, gutless, brainless excuse for a man. Still not enough.

Why do you say "ripped out" as though the doctor does it with his bare hands? I looked into the same procedural options for fibroids, and the hysterectomy turned out to be the best decision in my case. I did not go into menopause from the surgery, and have felt a zillion percent better ever since.

It was a major, but carefully and well-done surgery. Nothing was "ripped out" of me. There are probably women reading this board who are facing a similar decision, and reading such melodramatic, purple prose is not going to make them feel any better.

"I'd crawl on my knees over broken glass to pull the lever for a Republican to keep these evil monsters (Democrats) away from the levers of power."

Conservatives have made a big strategic mistake in tying conservatism's future solely to that of the GOP. Both Houses of Congress, the Presidency, and most appointments to the Supreme Court have been made by Republican Presidents. Most state legislatures and most Governorships are controlled by the GOP.

And what has been the ultimate result of GOP control from the point of view of conservatism? Perhaps I've missed the news stories where the Federal budget was balanced, the size of government was limited, and the total tax burden on the populace was significantly reduced.

But I digress. The topic of this thread was eugenics and abortion. Despite years of GOP control at virtually level of government, abortion is still readily available and legal throughout the U.S. Euthanasia is being practiced, albeit in limited numbers.

I'm pleased to note that abortion, at least in numerical terms, is being reduced in the U.S. (Thanks be to God!) But that has little if anything to do with what is happening in the political sphere. Women are simply choosing not to practice infanticide.

At a certain point, you have to judge the value of a political party on what they have actually accomplished or are likely to accomplish. So with all deference and respect, I'm missing why conservatives should pull a GOP lever in the next election, let alone crawl to do so.

A far better alternative in my view is to do what we should have been doing 10 years ago: hedging our bets. Preserve and expand the small cadre of conservative Democrats that have acted as a counterweight to the radical left within the Democratic party. But we haven't done that, and we probably won't at this juncture.

"I see this as the work God sent me to do," said Bloom, 54, executive director of Aradia Women's Health Center on Seattle's First Hill.

Bloom, a longtime champion of abortion rights who has become a national figure in the movement, left Aradia Friday after 18 years, hoping to work abroad and spend more time with her family. During her tenure, she has doubled the staff at the abortion clinic and added bilingual counselors. She has debated leaders in the national anti-abortion movement and become a mentor to clinics in other countries.

In her years at the forefront, Bloom has fought not only for access to abortions, but to change the way that some people view abortion as either tragic or immoral. She has described it instead as a "normal and common" experience in the lives of women — a "moral good" that saves lives and prevents unwanted children...

Woe unto them that call evil good... -- Isaiah 5:20

"Nazis said the same thing....And Communists and Socialists...Now the American Demorats."

They are really all the same people. Their fundamental beliefs are the same.

They all want to see America weak and defeated.

These are people of the same ilk who want to "Save the rain forest" because they believe there might be a cure yet to be discovered for some dreaded desease, but turn around and want to abort the person who may be fortunate enough to discover it.

They're also the ones touting the self-righteous "BIODIESEL" bumper stickers on their Volvos. The native rainforests in Indonesia, Malaysia, and other parts of the world are being logged and burned off to grow palms because imported palm oil is the biggest "natural" oil used to produce biodiesel in the United States.

"Save the rainforest!" Indeed.
LOL
