The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has always been the religion of the future — demographically, organizationally, fervently. Well, the future is now. Not only are there two Mormons running for the Republican presidential nomination (Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman) but the religion itself was taken even more seriously in national debates — albeit some of it having to do with one of Mormonism's most celebrated converts, Glenn Beck, and making it big on Broadway (The Book of Mormon by the creators of South Park)...about two-thirds of white evangelical Christians, according to a Pew Poll, do not consider Mormons fellow believers... though the religion is still steeped in controversy (are Mormons Christian? Heretics?)...(Mormons are not Muslims, nor are they atheists. And no, they are no longer polygamists.)...

From the article: about two-thirds of white evangelical Christians, according to a Pew Poll, do not consider Mormons fellow believers... though the religion is still steeped in controversy (are Mormons Christian? Heretics?)...

This, too--including the Romney/Huntsman angle (voting concerns re: a Christian voting for a Mormon) was reflected on 2011 FREEPER threads:

Two of the top four FR Lds threads in 2011 ("top" as in drawing the most replies for discussion purposes) focused on these issues:

* Know Mormons' beliefs before voting for them (707 replies of thread started by GreyFoxx39)
* Are Mormons Christian? (652 replies of thread started by Kaslin)

The "Are Mormons Christian" was a particularly heavy theme of focus on FR threads in 2011. Here's but a sampling of other thread discussions...three of the first nine listed below were started by FREEPER Mormons who weighed in:

* The Christ of Mormonism (Real Mormonism) (393 replies)
* Mormon and Christian (275 replies)
* Fox News anchor says Romney isn't a Christian (224 replies)
* Is Mormonism Christian? (208 replies)
* How do Mormons answer ‘not Christian’ claims? (200 replies)
* ARE MORMONS ANTI-CHRISTIAN? (186 replies)
* Mormons worship a different Jesus (175 replies)
* Mom, Are We Christians? ( 173 replies)
* Latter-day Saints aren't Christians? (162 replies)
* Why Mormonism Can Never Be Part of True Christianity (156 replies)
* A Different God? Mitt Romney, the Religious Right, and the Mormon Question (145 replies)
* If Mormonism is 'anti-Christian,' then how can it be considered 'Christian?' (129 replies)
* A Theologian Weighs In on the Mormon Church (129 replies)
* SHOULD CHRISTIANS ASSENT TO MORMON DEMANDS TO SEE THEM AS CHRISTIANS? [Vanity] (118 replies)
* whom do Mormons worship? (102 replies)
* "We're Christians Just Like You! (78 replies)

Interesting how the MSM is trying to push the cult of Moromonism. Prop Mittens up so they can knock him down if he gets the nomination.

From the article: ...making it big on Broadway (The Book of Mormon by the creators of South Park)...

Yes, the Book of Mormon "made it big" in 2011 on Broadway.

And from the "I Believe" song from the musical, here is the heart of it:
I believe-
That God has a plan for all of us.
I believe-
That plan involves
Me getting my own planet.
Source: Original Broadway Production (2011) The Book of Mormon: the Musical - I Believe Lyrics

Now...in an effort to stave off ridicule, Lds Freepers and Lds professors have tried to ward off this idea that Lds leaders have taught that Mormons get their own personal planets.

This was covered in mid-November: Mormon Professors Confuse Doctrine and Rumor

A Mormon scholar, Dr. Richard Bushman, tried claiming "the idea of devout Mormons having their own planets in eternity 'Mormon lore'......but the article linked above...coupled with post #5 of that link...proved elsewise.

Bushman was misleading the public. Still, at least Bushman reacted publicly to the "Book of Mormon" Broadway production...[most Mormons simply ducked...and many Christians -- including myself -- didn't make a "production" of this production at the musical "The Book of Mormon" takes swipes at all things divine.] Here is what Bushman told CNN in the Summer of '11:

...I did leave college to serve a mission, and my experience then bears on my reaction to Price’s song. Specific doctrines aside, the lines that will most distress Mormons in the Price lyrics are the repeated phrase “just believe.” Poor Elder Price has had his confidence shaken and doesn’t know how to react to his dawning disbelief. All he can do is repeat over and over “just believe.” To prove himself valiant, he must turn off the lights and shut the door on his doubts. Price’s response to uncertainty leaves the impression that Mormons may be happy on the outside, but are hollow at the core. They recognize their beliefs are preposterous but stubbornly hold on. I suppose it seems obvious to many people that a moment’s reflection about personal planets, Kolob, and the Garden of Eden in Missouri will plant doubts. Richard Bushman: 'The Book of Mormon' is like looking into a fun-house mirror; the reflection is hilarious but not really you

Sure describes the phony smile of mitt and his accomplishments. Any research on backstabbing? Is it part of their commandments or is his a manifestation of his lying ways. This man is the epitome of evil - he reeks of deception.

I suppose so, if your future plans include spending eternity in Hell.

Lol ! You should read the other 9 top stories. I’m sure you believe most all of them are going to your Christian Hell as well. (Hindus, Harold Camping, Coptic Christians, the Pope, Tibetan Buddhists, Taoists, Muslims, Jews, Zoroastrians,Sikhs, Mennonites)

Most people of the world AREN’T Christians. Time isn’t promoting any particular religion, they are just reporting on the religion trends of the year. Mormonism is hot right now, but the scariest trend is the rapid growth of Islam. Betcha we don’t see a story on that anytime soon.

And MANY of the 2/3's are merely accepting what they've been TOLD about MORMONism without actually SEEING Mormon writings themselves.

(Which is...a form of stereotyping...creating a "false front" of what Mormonism is supposed to represent...all while negating what it actually has taught historically)
