>> Everyone just seems to look at the person next to them in order to gain some sense of superiority (”at least I’m not THAT bad”) and forges on, completely unaware that sin is not relative.<<

When a religion is totally carnal that’s what you end up with.

Written to the church in Pergamos
Rev 2
14 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.

15 So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate.

16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

In this type of situation the only way a church could repent would be to kick these people out of the Church.

Also
1 Corinthians 5:1
It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father’s wife.

5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

Unless they kick him out of the Church they will have to keep company with him.

but you continuously yell "FIRE" on every RF thread.

Do not make this thread "about" individual Freepers. That is also a form of "making it personal."

Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.

James some friendly advice brother. Next time put an article like the above in a caucus forum. This will keep the Romans from using troll tactics to spam your thread. I know you kept it open in good faith, and that is commendable. However some are still hunting for Luther’s bones to put him on trial and burn his remains:)

Good article.

yes— you did a fair job of it. In my estimation— a man identifies himself by his actions. If a man is born anew -in my opinion— Christ ought be his focus—ought become his identity He will still sin and sometimes willfully— but if he has accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and has surrendered to that transformation he can never again identify by what he has died to. I still have a drink —on occasion but I can NEVER enjoy drinking until I have fallen down drunk.
That former thing has lost all appeal. Before I was born anew I worshiped my fantasies and tried to act them out.Pursued the pleasure —Now I can enjoy a beautiful image and worship the Creator,Not the Creation.

“The Bible does not condemn “same-sex attractions” as sin.”

The Apostle Paul refers to them as "vile affections". Sound's like a condemnation as sin to me.

Some churches do exactly as you say, first giving them an opportunity to abandon their practice of homosexuality, which some do. Others welcome them to worship services only, but do not allow them to become church members or leaders of any kind unless/until they abandon their practice of homosexuality. I guess they consider refusing membership etc. the equivalent of not fellowshipping. My church follows the latter policy, and we have seen several homosexuals saved and leaving the homosexual lifestyle as a result of it.

One sins by intentionally doing something that is wrong in the eyes of God. While same-sex attractions are vile, all indications are that they are not something one does, but something that happens to a person, just like any other temptation. If merely experiencing same-sex attractions is sin, then so are all other temptations, including the temptations of Jesus. Was Jesus sinning when He was tempted in every way, just as we are?

"One sins by intentionally doing something that is wrong in the eyes of God."

I don't know that lusting , whether same sex or normal hetro is always intentional. Yet lust is always a sin. Same with other sinful thoughts. Anger, jealousy, envy, covetousness - They often happen despite out best "intentions", yet we are held to account. In this regard homosexual desire is just the same as every other sinful desire. It's part of our corrupted nature - we are sinners, and can't "not sin". In this sense we all "born that way." That's the consequence of original sin. That's why we need a Savior. And constant repentance.

Jesus was tempted, yes, but I don't know that he ever had the slightest desire to succumb to the temptation. He was tempted to sin but he never even sinned in his heart by entertaining the sin in his mind. I don't care what one's "intentions" are, no human seed of man has the innate ability to accomplish this 24/7. Of our own we are all hopeless. It's the ugly reality of the fall and the glorious redemption of the Gospel.
