President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

I know it seems like a very coars response . . . and, it is . . . but it's not like the leaders did their evil in a vacuum. Idiot sheep voted them into power. They got the leadership they asked for.

Their corrupt values were somehow, to some degree in sync.

When the good are silent . . .

But I'm beginning to think that the south is really different from other parts of the country.

That remark is completely uncalled for and only shows your ignorance.

Very little dry land left in NO now fires on the only parts that are dry. My thoughts still linger on the hospitals being over run by gangs looking for drugs.

With all the rapes that have been going on in NO, that's not a bad idea.

AA and SWA have sent planes to evac stranded travellers from Armstrong airport. AA brought a hold full of bottled water.

""But I'm beginning to think that the south is really different from other parts of the country."

Actually, you are right. The south is different. That's why so many of us have stayed here and others have relocated here;)

South is the heart of the nation. The seat of passion. Good and bad. I love it. Family's been southern since the 1600s.

Oh, I didn't mean that as an insult! But there are differences between regions of the country. Like people think of So Cal as laid back, and the East Coast as fast-paced. Know what I mean?

Because of this? Sadly there are a number of major cities in the U.S. that would respond this way given these or similar circumstances.

(Unfortunately the terrorists are taking notes.)

I think lots of FReeper's are loving this...after all they want to shoot all the looters without a trial or jury.

Freepers aren't loving this and it's disgusting to suggest such a thing.

And yes the looters should be shot. They are preventing rescuers from saving lives. Do you understand that?

There have been reports today that citizens (I think it was 1,000) with boats were trying to rescue people off roofs and the looters shot at them! I don't think that's okay to allow to go on. As well, they are setting fires. Deliberately. They have AK-47 and are shooting people. I don't think that's okay.

At first I thought they were saying "Fu*k Reagan."

Then I thought "Does CNN know they're airing obscenity?"

Then I realized "They're flipping off Nagin, and he might see it." Reportedly, he's in Baton Rouge.

FU*K NAGIN! indeed, and thank you to CNN for airing it uncut.

I think that this is a different situation than most natural disasters. When we have an earthquake in CA everybody's still here. In NO right now you have three groups:

Very, very poor,
Infirmed,
Criminals

I feel bad for the poor, and worse for the infirmed. My thought last night was that we should get them out and nuke the city.

I was referring to the city gas supply. It's still on and still fuelling fires all over the place!

Shep can no longer be called a girlyman. He is in a dangerous situation. Any reporter staying there is subject to being shot. A gang of thugs could very well hijack their truck.

Reports are that the refugees coming to the Astrodome aren't necessarily from the SD. Some church groups are bussing people in and some individuals just took busses and picked people up to get out of there. The poor souls in the SD can't get to busses because of being shot at. The people at the SD have no clue yet. IMO, they won't be rescued.

Yes, they are emboldened. It didn't take them long to realize that they outnumbered LE, et al.

There are dead bodies in front of the convention center. No doubt they are dying from dehydration, heatstroke, lack of meds. There's no convention there now.
