President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

"Rising Tide" by John M Barry is a riveting account of southern politics and the Army Corps of Engineers. The feud goes way back.

And now before we can clean up New Orleans, we're going to have to go get them.

Sadly, they won't come till the situation gets beyond "Lord of the Flies" stuff. Until there is no more food or water, many don't want to go.

we won't show the dead from this incident.

Step back a moment, and let's pretend you are missing your mother, father, three sisters and Aunt Katherine. Tell me you would want the world to see their dead bodies floating in an oil slick via FOX News camera crew.

Y'all need to think.

I think these people are too stunned to realize that they aren't going to be living in NO for a long time...if ever again.

Good point. Many of these people are in shock, probably suffering from post traumatic stress.

It is kind of like a war zone

When you're upto your .... you better drain the swamp --- quick.

Why not bust through the marshes blocking the LP outflow with a B52 attack (70 750# bombs) and get the city water down to sea level?

Would save alot of lives if done tonight.

I recognize they could not have saved him....but, they should have treated the situation without just flat ignoring her.

The level is close to sea level already. The problem is not rising water anymore.

Are we talking passed each other?

If the sick were dropped off at the Dome, the HEALTHY could get on a bus and get there.

I am totally impressed with these young men and their ability to communicate. You are not getting older, they just are getting younger every day! :)

I cut out when you started hammering the kbd.

Ok, so she's a cop spokesperson with nobody handing her info. So what? She doesn't make the plans. Her job is to deliver the party line (or look dumb if she gets nothing.)

The mike-in-your-face ambush journalism is bad-enough in Washington, but it has no place here at all. Background. Find out who she gets her info from. Find out who's supposed to be in charge. Find out if there was a State Plan filed somewhere in the past that was better (just even an internet search.) Anything but just putting some official on the spot to rile up viewers for rating points.

Lord of the Flies is a book that will never leave you...not sure if I'd call it good...or bad. Unforgettable.

The carrier was in Japan. Navy ships are not prepared to put out to sea at a moment's notice.

Oh come on, this is defensive. Where is the airlifts of supplies in the last few days. In Japan?
