America Held Hostage- the Obama Files...

With a hattip to Rush ( His idea during the Clinton plague upon America ) I am starting a file on “The One,” mostly starting from the election date.

Older stuff- links, quotes, quips, and sometimes pointed graphics can be found by scrolling back from these two posts:

-Hillary Clinton- archives, comments, and opposition research--

-Sarah Palin- links, from the beginning--

There is some good material in those posts that raises a lot of uncomfortable questions that everyone ought to be asking, and probably will once the “new” wears off, and we are stuck with four ( more likely eight, since 95% of the news & entertainment media are in his pocket ) years of a typical corrupt Chicago Political Machine Politician trying to jerk the whole country in one direction and then the next.

You've all heard the saying,

”People get the kind of government they want...
...and deserve?”

Well, America, you are about to “get it, good & hard...”

Don't say you weren't warned- we tried to tell you...

We did everything we could, and our state went for the Old Guy & the Naughty Librarian, but too many other voters were made stupid by the TV and public schools for it to matter.

We're in a Hell of a mess, and the worst thing is, "we"- the collective we, not you & I-- got us here.

Is Obama really the Abyss...

staring back at us?

I like to make points with humorous graphics- this one sums it up as well as any:

Then, in a nutshell, "everything I see going bad with all this hopi- changi- stuff The One is peddling-- forced labor, censorship, spin, and pure mean-spirited rudness:

Email of the day

Atlas readers rock! I am blown away by the overwhelming response to this post  (and this one) to get involved to take back our country from the Soros, socialists, and the self proclaimed messiah - oy. More than one email brought a tear to my eye but I wanted to share this one with you.

If this best represents who we are, what we want and where we are going, there is no way we can lose. Greatness is in the house. I am proud to count you as my friends. Prouder still to stand with you and fight this great fight.

I want to lead a county.

I was born in Cuba, and know the language of Communism, Obama speaks it well.  My grandfather's family had to flee Lebanon because of the Muslims to Cuba. We fled Cuba because of Castro.

This is the best country in the whole wide world.  I was a child when I left Cuba with the clothe on my back, we left my parent's sister and I, left behind everything.

America is Worth fighting for and Freedom is worth defending.  I do not want my children to grow up in oppression, nor do I wish exile upon them.

Please allow me to help, again, Id like to lead a county.

My name is Ingrid and Im in Miami, in Miami Dade County

May the Light always shine upon America,

UPDATE: In case there was any doubt as to what the victorious zombies have in mind. Check out this comment (left in the comment section) . Can you say rude awakening?

You people are pathetic!

Your racist fear mongering will not go unchallenged!  Soon we will shut down your hate spewing web sites.  We will confiscate your firearms.  In prison, you will get an education on the error of your ways.  We will take your children and raise them as our own and instill in them the values of social justice.  We will have a new American Republic of justice and order for all!

You time is almost up!  Prepare for the dung heap of history!

It sounds insane (which it is) but I believe the writer is quite serious.

"We will confiscate your firearms. In prison, you will get an education on the error of your ways. We will take your children and raise them as our own and instill in them the values of social justice".....

Heh heh heh....I am sure you are serious, but that is funny!

Values of social Mao? Stalin? Lenin? Ho-chi Min? Pol Pot? Which of these butchers of social justice did you have in mind?"

That's the number of civilians that have been murdered by their own governments in the 20th century alone.

Innocents Betrayed is a must see video produced by Jews for the Preservation of Firearms (scroll down to see links to view the Introduction to Innocents Betrayed)

Now consider Obama's 'civilian defense force' which he intends to fund and equip as well as our standing military coupled with his promise to revisit the second amendment (repeal concealed carry privilege) and then compound this injury with Ayers' inspired youth corps.

Obamessiah has a new site up as President-elect soliciting ideas form the proletariat.
Let's hope it doesn't become the hub for the hate whitey and Jew boy Obamavomit that his last site was.

Surf the site. Take note. Keep your eye on the The Obama National Service Plan- the page is empty (how apropos) but that piques my interest.

President Obama To Bring Back Slavery

Just in case anyone think Mr. Obama is not serious about this, bear in mind that his new Chief of Staff wrote a book demanding this very thing: The Plan: Big Ideas for America: Rahm Emanuel, Bruce Reed: Books;sr=1-1

Don’t forget they want a Gestapo/KKK civilian force the size of the pentagon to keep everybody inline and things running smoothly.

“Suddenly, all mention of “required” has been disappeared. ”

SOME THOUGHTS ON OBAMA'S mandatory volunteerism plan. Plus, reader Nancy Anne Potts writes:

Looks like the site is true to it's title - it changes!

During the time when I was looking at the blog you linked to concerned mandatory community service the page saying "require community service" changed to goal for community service. The new wording is:

"..... Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by setting a goal that all middle school and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year and by developing a plan so that all college students who conduct 100 hours of community service receive a universal and fully refundable tax credit ensuring that the first $4,000 of their college education is completely free."

I found the the cached page on Google it has the original "required" wording.

Looks like they caught their "mistake". Now will the real plan please step forward -- goal or required. (Although the way government sets goals, they often wind up looking like requirements so maybe the two aren't all that different.)

Ugh! I see card check made the economy page too. He may be the president elect but I don't have to like his plans!

Not until the second term. Then that will be made mandatory, too . . . .

Meanwhile, Robert Bidinotto comments: "Anyone recall what the Soviets used to do to history books?" The Obama folks have a history of airbrushing.

IF YOU VOTED FOR MCCAIN, you're a racist. Just in case nobody had bothered to tell you.

Obama Mocks Nancy Reagan in 1st Press Conference

It's  classless to mock a frail, elderly woman. (Note he was not kind in his revelation about his own "typical white person" grandmother, either.)

It's even worse to mock the widow of a great former president. Whatever you think of her, she deserves respect.

Especially classless was mocking Nancy Reagan on stage, before hundreds of reporters and television cameras, knowing the "joke" would be heard by millions. This wasn't some private remark that got picked up by a live mike.

On Concerns Over Gun Control, Gun Sales Are Up

From "", the official transition website. Agenda tab and then select "urban policy" and go down to "Crime Control".

Address Gun Violence in Cities:
As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.

There will be no one left to protect you
Barack Obama wants to institute a Civilian National Security Force, a vast militia not unlike Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, a personal army. He knows he would need such a force to protect him and to enforce his will on Americans. Americans will have not seen such arbitrary power used against them since the days of the Civil War when Lincoln put the Constitution in the bottom drawer of his desk and set about arresting anyone who opposed his policies...

QUESTIONS ABOUT THAT civilian national security force.

Hmmmm... this one is very difficult. I was in the military, and we were taught we salute the uniform, not the man. So I respect the office, not the man. However, I am adopting a wait and see. If Obama governs as if he cares about America, even if we disagree, I can accept that. If Obama governs as I expect, like a Manchurian candidate who is bent on America’s deconstruction, that is when he will disqualify himself as being my president.

Liberal activists have long legislative wish list

National Organization for Women. "Since 1994, we've been losing over and over on legislation related to equality and fair treatment for women."
The gay-rights movement also campaigned vigorously for Obama.
NARAL Pro-Choice America and the Planned Parenthood Federation of America want Obama and Congress to move aggressively...
An array of other advocacy groups are stepping forward with their priorities for the new Congress.

Barack Obama: The Kingfish Reborn

Do Unto Obama As Liberals Did Unto Bush

Coal stocks plummet. Average 15%, many over 30% since Tuesday Gee, wonder why?

Kate, this is important and you should listen to it. It's about Obama's cult of personality and it is short.

From the blogs- and, always, read the Anchoress:

Bush, Obama, & Ghosts of Hate - UPDATED

“The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew, and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country.” Lincoln’s Second Annual Message to Congress, December 1, 1862.

I would love nothing better than to be able to stop writing about “left” and “right.” I wish we had a better vocabulary to describe our distinctions, because these words are limiting and off-putting. I am determined, with the merciful conclusion of this abusively long election season, to work diligently at spending less time entertaining these distinctions. But for today, I think it is only fair to note a very important and glaring difference between “left and right” - and in so doing - consider how we may, finally, stop needing to indulge in what is tedious.

Victor Davis Hanson
says Let’s not imitate the left in our opposition. I agree.

It has been wonderful - really beyond wonderful - to consider how differently most of the right has reacted to their defeat than the left did in 2000 and 2004. In the two previous elections, the left responded by calling the other half of the country “stupid,” “morons,” and “Nazis” - Jane Smiley called them “unteachably ignorant” - they indulged in high drama, sniffling “apologies” to the globe, and denunciations of their fellow countrymen as “lying between repugnant and reptile in the dictionary.”

And oh, yeah (eyeroll) George W. Bush was not “their” president.

While you’ll see a few disgruntled extremists on the right say foolish, even ignorant things - and many throwing daggers at the sickening double-standards of the press - they’re not indulging in that sort of dehumanizing (and very adolescent) hate of their fellow countrymen or the president-elect. The reports they’re filing read very differently than those following the Bush wins. They read as grown-up, tolerant, open-minded discourses, not tantrums. There is a willingness to be hopeful, even in defeat.

And there is a determined respectfulness being offered to the winners - people who could not manage maturity and respectfulness in their defeat and who, sadly, are not always managing it in their victory, either.

I’m hopeful that the left - if it takes the time to actually condescend to notice how well it is being treated by the vanquished - might consider that self-indulgent defamation is the lesser way; that such a consideration may inspire introspection, and perhaps the smallest bit of regret for some of their appalling excesses toward the right and toward the American President who did not return hate in-kind.

I’m hopeful. I’m an optimist. I KNOW that the folks on the right - for all of their faults, and both sides certainly have faults - want America to be successful and strong and exceptional and free. I’m hopeful that hugely empowered left will discover that - beyond the feel-goodism of “free social programs” which are never free -they actually, really do want all of those things, too. That they’ll look back on the last 8 years and realize, finally, that their enemy was never George W. Bush. Bush, the guy who never dehumanized them, was only trying serve those corny ideals.

And then, miraculously, we may actually have unity.

Some similar thinking from my girl crush, Donna Brazile:

“The one mistake that we continue to make is that we label people. We say you’re conservatives, liberal, progressive, right wing, left wing. I think people just want to spend one day being Americans. They want to come together around a common purpose, common values.”

I wondered the other day if the catharsis of this election might open up “a vein of generosity” (or at least decency) from the left as concerns President Bush. I have not seen it yet, but I’m going to be optimistic and keep looking.

But maybe it’s enough just to see a little appreciation from the right, to start. Like this, for instance:

I link, therefore, I Err has a little mini-round-up of appreciation for George W. Bush. You’ll want to read it all.

From Alppuccino at Protein Wisdom:

At 10:40, President Bush will keep his streak alive by telling everyone how much he loves America. Just as he always has. And he’ll show everyone how much he loves America by preparing Obama as best he can for the next 4 years.

Read it all; it’s doubtful that Obama’s team will come into the White House finding O’s missing from their keyboards, any rude messages greeting them. And that is how it should be in America, a respectful transition.

Michael Gerson:

Many liberals refuse to concede Bush’s humanity, much less his achievements.

But that humanity is precisely what I will remember. I have seen President Bush show more loyalty than he has been given, more generosity than he has received. I have seen his buoyancy under the weight of malice and his forgiveness of faithless friends. Again and again, I have seen the natural tug of his pride swiftly overcome by a deeper decency — a decency that is privately engaging and publicly consequential.

[In 2005]…the White House senior staff overwhelmingly opposed a new initiative to fight malaria in Africa for reasons of cost and ideology…In the crucial policy meeting, one person supported it: the president of the United States, shutting off debate with a moral certitude that others have criticized. I saw how this moral framework led him to an immediate identification with the dying African child, the Chinese dissident, the Sudanese former slave, the Burmese women’s advocate. It is one reason I will never be cynical about government — or about President Bush.

Jeffery Scott Shapiro:

[The treatment of President Bush] from this country is nothing less than a disgrace. The attacks launched against him have been cruel and slanderous, proving to the world what little character and resolve we have…Our failure to stand by the one person who continued to stand by us has not gone unnoticed by our enemies. It has shown to the world how disloyal we can be when our president needed loyalty — a shameful display of arrogance and weakness that will haunt this nation long after Mr. Bush has left the White House.

Until we fix, within ourselves, our enthrallment with hate for others, simply because they hold differing views, we’ll never pull it together. In 2006 we watched a right-wing blogger be called less than human by a left-wing reader. We’ve seen President Bush being referred to as “the chimp” and “the monkey” by the wits who insisted that ideology trumped having a decent respect for another’s humanity. I wrote about that a little here:

Thus, George W. Bush is “Chimpy McHitler.” Hillary Clinton is “a pig in a pantsuit.” Barack Obama is “O-Bambi.” Cindy McCain, who has exhibited some courage and laudable compassion in her life, is reduced to a “pill-popping beer-frau,” and so forth. From there it is smooth sailing down an ever-descending river of hatred, until we are incapable of seeing anything good in the “other,” both because we have willfully hardened our hearts, and because our hate — especially when it is supported by a group of like minds — feels safe and inviolable.

With that in mind, you’ll want to read this excellent piece over at Conversion Diary, wherein Jenifer ponders pictures from a Nazi-era photo album and wonders, how such common-variety people managed to support and enable such profound evil.

One thing that stands out in all these examples is that the victims of the widespread evil were categorized as something less than human…not only that innocent people were killed or enslaved, but that their humanity was taken away by the societies around them…So here is the advice I would offer to my children, and to my children’s children:

Every decade or so, take a look around the society in which you live, and ask yourself if there is any group of human beings who are seen as something less than human. A big tipoff is if dehumanizing words — terms other than “man,” “woman,” “child,” “baby,” or “person” — are used to describe any category of people.

And if you ever see that going on, you might be in the midst of something gravely evil.

Dehumanizing people begins with baby-steps like name-calling, or the sort of intellectual dishonesty that delights in deliberately twisting the meaning of others in negative and misrepresentative ways. Those are the little gateways to the great evils that come once you’ve managed to thoroughly de-humanize others.

We’ve had 8 years - I’d say 12, really - of people demonizing and dehumanizing others, from both sides, and it is not getting us anyplace good. I believe that the response of most of the right to Obama’s victory is a step toward changing that. But the left has to do their part, too.

Pope Benedict XVI said, “those who hope live differently.” The election of Barack Obama was borne on this word, “Hope.”

If the people who voted for “hope” were sincere, then let them begin, today, to embrace it - and to live differently - without the kneejerk move to hate “the other side.” The right, responding levelly to their defeat, has offered the opening. Will the left take it?

UPDATE: Seems some will. Here is mostly accurate, and apprecited praise from a surprising quarter:

Would America have elected Barack Obama if white Americans had not gotten accustomed to seeing (in succession) two African-American Secretaries of State? I don’t think so. Before Bush, African-Americans were appointed to some good posts but not to our #1 foreign policy job. Two African Americans (one with a pretty odd first name) served as America’s face to the world. That eased Obama’s way. It is not Tiger Woods in whose footsteps Obama is walking — it’s Rice and Powell….Fact is, “W” never gave any evidence of holding racist attitudes…even just the slur the occasionally slips out of the mouth of even our most liberal leaders.

Same with Arabs and Muslims…Bush, after 9/11, never resorted to anti-Arab or Muslim stereotypes. He drew distinctions between terrorists and Arabs…Had he not done these things, Arabs and Muslims might have experienced not just hate crimes but pogroms.

Meanwhile, from Grand Rants:

Here is a man who is regularly compared to Hitler in casual conversation in Leftist circles high and low. His honor has been regularly impugned, his intelligence (or, as the press loves to put it, his “intellectual curiousity”) constantly demeaned, his verbal stumblings consistently mocked, and his accomplishments in office discounted or ignored. He is a man who kept his head down and did his job, despite the slings and arrows hurled at him by fortune made all the more outrageous by nearly the entire Democratic party.

I for one, would like to say thank you to Pres. Bush. For keeping us safe. For watching out for us. For persevering in spite of all the spite. I believe history will ultimately judge you as one of America’s best presidents, and I believe you deserve that judgement.

H/T to Opinionated Catholic, who writes:

The throwing under the bus of the President by even his friends and indeed the base has been shocking to me. Many groups will find out soon enough how they took Bush’s support and advocacy for them for granted, Catholics, especially.

Meanwhile, Jules Crittenden is beginning to enjoy Omerica, Quin Hillyer is saying America is over, kaput, finished, Evan Thomas suddenly finds Obama “slightly creepy” and when you refuse to release medical records, and the press doesn’t care…conjecture begins about your mental health.

Forty-Fourth President, Twelfth Imam

by Baron Bodissey

O-Man’s Fibonacci spiral haloThe election results were long expected, but now that the day has arrived it’s quite a letdown, anyway. Reading about the joy expressed by Hamas and Syria and Italy and Indonesia… contemplating Obama’s Secretary of State, or (God help us) Defense… Thinking about the USA becoming just like Sweden, only with a real army, and aircraft carriers, and nukes… First Lady Michelle…

It’s all too depressing.

So, as is my habit in such circumstances, instead of writing a post this evening or doing something else useful, I created yet another iconic image of The One. After looking around at some of his existing halos, I decided to make one myself. A man can’t have too many halos, right?

And then I pondered the phenomenon of halos appearing behind the heads of great national leaders, men who are born into modest Muslim circumstances, but in time become presidents of large countries that have nuclear weapons. It made me think of…
- - - - - - - - -
Mad Jad’s HaloMahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Ol’ Mad Jad got his halo when he went to visit the UN a couple of years ago. It appeared behind his head while he was speaking. Not only that, his audience was held in such rapt attention by his words that they were unable to blink for thirty minutes. We know all this is true because he told us so.

I wonder how many other resemblances there are between him and Barack Hussein Obama.

Ahmadinejad sees himself as preparing the way for the Twelfth Imam, as a sort of satanic John the Baptist for the man who is prophesied to return and usher in the apocalypse preceding the establishment of the permanent reign of Islam over the entire world.

And Obama’s got a bigger halo.

Does that mean…? Nah — it couldn’t be… But still… It makes me wonder…

What if the One were also the Twelfth?

Note to the literal-minded: this post is for fun, not to be taken seriously. Given the circumstances, it’s the only fun I’m likely to have for quite a while.

Saul Alinsky Takes the White House My wife just got an e-mail from the head of HR saying that the post-election Obama jokes have to stop, especially if there is any hint that it might be related to racism. We may have to go back to Xerox machines and small presses distributing handbills, but I’ll be damned if I let my country slip in to “That Good Night” without a fight.

I’m the one who dubbed Clinton “Little Big Fraud,” so I’ll have to work on something for The One.

We may have to set up a “Free Republic in Exile” like Degaulle did when the Nazis overran France, but we’ll manage.

It does distress me that so many people were suckered by a typical Chicago Machine empty suit, but he had 95% of both the press and entertainment arms of The Media Hive trying to get him elected, and covering up for him, so it’s not surprising.

We did it to ourselves, and The New, Improved Black Jesus is merely a symptom.

All civilizations have a shelf life- once enough citizens figure out that by electing the “right” representatives, they can use the power of the government to pick the pockets of others,'s all over, except for the details.

Well, we're in the “details,” now.

This is a Big F***ing Deal.
The Obama-Pelosi Regime took control of one-sixth of the nation’s economy when they passed their nationalized health care bill and signed it into law in late March. The bill was never popular but democrats persisted and rammed the bill through Congress. Now, there are reports that the Obama Administration sat on damning information and hid it from the public until after their bill was passed into law.
* * * * *

The results from the HHS report that was released more than a month after the vote were devastating for Barack Obama and democrats. It is not likely they would have been able to ram their health care bill through Congress if the American public knew the bill would actually increase the cost of health care and impose higher costs on Americans.

The report released by Medicare and Medicaid actuaries predicted that medical costs will skyrocket, rising $389 billion 10 years. 14 million will lose their employer-based coverage. Millions of Americans will be left without insurance and millions more may be dumped into the already overwhelmed Medicaid system. 4 million American families will be hit with tax penalties under this new law.

Of course, these were ALL things that President Obama and Democratic leaders assured us would not happen.
Via Special Report:

On Monday the American Spectator reported that a damning health care report generated by actuaries at the Health and Human Services (HHS) Department was given to HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius more than a week before the health care vote. Sebelius and the Obama Administration reportedly hid the report from the public until a month after democrats rammed their nationalized health care bill through Congress.
The Prowler reported:

The economic report released last week by Health and Human Services, which indicated that President Barack Obama’s health care ‘reform’ law would actually increase the cost of health care and impose higher costs on consumers, had been submitted to the office of HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius more than a week before the Congressional votes on the bill, according to career HHS sources, who added that Sebelius’s staff refused to review the document before the vote was taken. ‘The reason we were given was that they did not want to influence the vote,” says an HHS source. ‘Which is actually the point of having a review like this, you would think.’…’We know a copy was sent to the White House via their legislative affairs staff,’ says the HHS staffer, ‘and there were a number of meetings here almost right after the analysis was submitted to the secretary’s office. Everyone went into lockdown, and people here were too scared to go public with the report.’ In the end, the report was released several weeks after the vote…”

On Tuesday, Chief Medicare Actuary, Richard Foster, responded to the report. Foster claimed that HHS did not finalize their report until April 22. Ben Smith at The Politico reported:

An online article in The American Spectator about the most recent analysis by the CMS Office of the Actuary of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is completely inaccurate. We began working on the reconciliation bill for the health reform legislation once it was publicly issued on March 18 – three days before the House vote took place on March 21. Because of the details and complexity of the legislation, it wasn’t possible to estimate the package before the Senate vote. We began work on the estimates right away, but we didn’t finalize them until the afternoon of April 22

Consistent with the Office of the Actuary’s longstanding independent role on behalf of Congress, we did not seek approval or clearance from HHS (or anyone else) before issuing our analysis.

After the first report was published on Monday, I contacted The American Spectator.
On Thursday, they responded with an update on the Prowler Blog. They are standing by their report that senior HHS officials knew before the MArch 21 vote that the then-bill would increase the cost of health care and impose higher costs on Americans.
The American Spectator reported:

Several points related to the push back by the Obama Administration and the Medicare’s Office of the Actuary and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to our recent post regarding the office’s report on the Obama health care reform legislation. Recall, the study determined that the law would actually increase the cost of health care and impose higher costs on consumers, when the administration had claimed that the law would do neither.

The Prowler reported via sources inside Health and Human Services that data from the study that indicated that costs would hit consumers in the pocketbook was made available to the senior officials in HHS, prior to final passage of the legislation in the House. The report never stated that it was submitted for approval. Such reports by “non-political” or “nonpartisan” entities inside Cabinet departments, such as the Bureau of Justice Statistics in the Department of Justice, routinely provide, to senior leadership offices in a department, studies and reports with data that often run counter to an Administration’s liking, and often before those reports are released to the media or the public.

It should be noted that in the Bush Administration, such reports were often leaked to reporters days before officials in the administration received them, allowing the “nonpartisan” agencies to shape their facts and studies with almost no push back from the departments in question.

Our sources stand by the facts that prior to final passage of the health care reform bill on Sunday, March 21, the Office of the Actuary had provided senior leaders inside HHS with data that indicated the then-bill would increase the cost of health care and impose higher costs on Americans. And that data was not provided to anyone publicly until after the legislation was passed.

That the report was issued after the bill’s passage is not in dispute. What is in dispute is who had data and when were those estimates initially available.

There you have it.
Democrats and the Obama Administration sat on damning information about their health care legislation and released it only after the bill was passed into law. This is certainly unethical and most likely criminal.
This is a Big F***ing Deal.

“Why did it take President Obama 8 days to do anything regarding the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico?”

CAN SOMEBODY EXPLAIN THIS TO ME? “Mr. Obama said SWAT teams were being dispatched to the Gulf to investigate oil rigs and said his administration is now working to determine the cause of the disaster.” Does this mean they suspect foul play, or what?

UPDATE: Or lousy reporting. At least this report says:

The US Interior Department said it had assembled a “swat team” of inspectors to review safety at offshore drilling rigs across the US.

So it’s a metaphorical SWAT team, not a real one. Good thing, as we need the real ones to deal with blue-haired Tea Party grandmas. . . .

An entrepreneur and the minimum wage.  "Our brilliant Congressmen in Washington, D.C. decided a couple years ago that it would be a good idea to raise the minimum wage by about 40% to $7.25/hour. It just took effect last year. That probably sounds like great news for everyone – more money in everyone’s pockets can only be good, right? Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way in the real world."

Barack Obama, America’s Selective Salary Policeman

Barack Obama, America’s Selective Salary Policeman
by Michelle Malkin

President Obama spoke the most revealing and clarifying 10 words of his control-freak administration this week: “I think at some point you have made enough money.” Peddling financial regulatory reform at a rally in Quincy, Ill., Obama then ad-libbed peculiar definitions of what he called the “American way” and the profit motive: “(Y)ou can just keep on making it if you’re providing a good product or providing good service. We don’t want people to stop, ah, fulfilling the core responsibilities of the financial system to help grow our economy.”

Fundamental lesson of Capitalism 101: Governments and bureaucrats don’t make what people want and need. They only get in the way. It is individuals, cooperating peacefully and voluntarily, working together without mandate or central design, who produce the world’s goods and services. They make what people desire and demand for themselves, not what Obama and his imperial overlords ordain that the masses should have.

As usual, Obama’s populist demagoguery is telling in its omissions and selectivity. While he lectures on the morality of salary caps for everyone else, his own cabinet is filled with fabulously wealthy CEOs and statist creatures who have parlayed government employment (a “good” service) into private gain as lobbyists, consultants and advisers (“core responsibilities of the financial system”) and then back again to public stints. Revolving doors have always grown the Beltway economy.

To wit: Austan Goolsbee, head of Obama’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board, is the 15th wealthiest member of the Obama administration, with assets valued at between $1,146,000 to $2,715,000. He also pulled in a University of Chicago salary of $465,000 and additional wages and honoraria worth $93,000, according to the Washingtonian magazine.

What “good” did he provide? The government research fellow and Obama campaign adviser was a champion of extending credit to the un-creditworthy. In a 2007 op-ed for The New York Times, he derided those who called subprime mortgages “irresponsible.” He preferred to describe them as “innovations in the mortgage market” to expand the pool of homebuyers. Now this wrong-headed academic who espoused government policies that fed the housing feeding frenzy is in charge of fixing the loose-credit mess he advocated. This is the “American way”?

After 16 years in Congress, four years in the Clinton administration as budget director and chief of staff, and a lifetime of schmoozing in the halls of power, Obama’s CIA director, Leon Panetta, cashed in big. He’s sitting on up to $4 million in assets. While he has zero experience in intelligence matters, he has extensive experience in parlaying his past political tours of duty into lucrative speaking gigs, consulting fees and stock options. Welcome to Obama-approved entrepreneurship.

By Obama’s definition, first lady Michelle Obama is a model capitalist. Remember: After serving with real estate mogul Valerie Jarrett in Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley’s administration, Mrs. Obama took a post at the University of Chicago Medical Center, where Jarrett was serving as vice-chair of the medical center’s board of trustees. Mrs. Obama was promoted in 2005 after her husband won his U.S. Senate race with Jarrett’s invaluable aid. As “vice president for community and external affairs” and head of the “business diversity program,” her annual compensation nearly tripled from $122,000 in 2004 to $317,000 in 2005. Even after she went on leave in 2007 to help her husband on the presidential campaign trail, the hospital paid Mrs. Obama $62,709 in 2008, prompting one skeptic to ask: “We know this is Chicago, but isn’t $63,000 quite a lot for a no-show job?”

Jarrett, of course, is now White House senior adviser to the chief spender of other people’s money. And the first lady is now using her new taxpayer-funded position not only to tell folks how they should eat, but also which “good” restaurants and groceries should be built in their neighborhoods.

If there were any doubts left about the Obamas’ ideological commitment to wealth redistribution and a command-and-control economy, those doubts have been thoroughly removed. We have a commander-in-chief who presumes to know when you have earned “enough,” who believes that only those who provide what he deems “good” products and services should “keep on making it,” and who has determined that the role of American entrepreneurs is not to pursue their own self-interest, but to fulfill their “core” responsibility as dutiful growers of the collective economy.

That famous mock-up poster of Obama as the creepy socialist Joker never seemed more apt.

I love Scott Johnson’s succinct rejoinder at Power Line: “At some point you have grabbed enough power.”

Immigration: Tear it down, and they will leave

go home

New York, California, Texas, Arizona and Florida have lagged behind in Census returns. Care to guess why? These states happen to have “higher shares of residents who are Latinos.”

Either people just don’t care and/or the states’ Latinos are angry and/or illegal aliens in those states are afraid to announce their presence.

Sources report that illegal aliens are leaving Arizona for more “tolerant” pastures. I’m really wishing and hoping they head to that wonderful, welcoming, and tolerant city, San Francisco. Man, I would love to see that. I predict a cascading effect among the states. As illegal aliens in Arizona head to states like Utah and Texas, they’ll craft their own immigration enforcement laws. In fact, a Utah lawmaker has introduced a bill.

(An immigration law expert debunks myths about Arizona’s law in the New York Times, and it’s a must-read).

Anti-enforcement types typically say America can’t round up millions of illegal aliens and kick them out. Impractical!  In 2008, I attended the Republican presidential debate and listened to Congressman Tom Tancredo debunk the rounding-up-millions myth. He said we don’t have to round them up. Enforce the law, and they’ll go home. Tear down the sanctuary, and they will leave.

All week, I’ve contained my anger over talk of “Gestapo” Arizona and Hispanics protesting and calling the law “racist” (although I vented a little). :x

I don’t hate illegal aliens. I hate that my country has been overrun. I hate that I see Spanish language signs and government forms. I hate that my country has turned a blind eye to illegal south-of-the-border “immigration” because of the cheap labor it provides. I hate that our elected officials want to offer amnesty to these same illegal aliens, when people trying to enter and stay in the U.S. legally are still in line.

I hated it when George Bush pushed an amnesty bill (which crashed and burned), and I’ll hate it when Barack Obama does it.

Now I turn to something I love: THE WEEKEND!

Rest easy, everybody, and follow me on @La_Shawn.

Immigration Is In Chaos After Obama Remark

Air Force One was about seven miles over Appalachia last week when President Obama dropped a bomb on his fellow Democrats.

Senate Democrats had that very day circulated an immigration reform proposal, and the Associated Press, receiving a leaked copy, reported on the "draft legislation."

But as Obama returned to Washington from Illinois Wednesday night, he walked back to the press cabin on the presidential aircraft and, in an impromptu Q&A, essentially declared immigration reform dead. He said "there may not be an appetite" for it.

Obama's retreat — after encouraging senators only weeks ago to take up immigration reform — clotheslined Senate Democrats. Since their proposal had already leaked, they had no choice but to roll out the plan Obama had just doomed.

"I don't know in what context the statement was made last night," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told reporters at Thursday's rollout.

Well, Mr. Leader, the context is fear. As the Arizona abomination makes clear, there is a desperate need for federal immigration action to keep the country from becoming a nation of vigilantes suspicious of anybody with dark skin.

But leaders on both sides have instead run for the hills, called there by the yodels from their respective extremes.

(Excerpt) Read more at ...

President Obama Kills Immigration Reform

Yahoo! News is reporting: "Obama takes immigration reform off agenda":

Immigration reform has become the first of President Barack Obama's major priorities dropped from the agenda of an election-year Congress facing voter disillusionment. Sounding the death knell was Obama himself.

The president noted that lawmakers may lack the "appetite" to take on immigration while many of them are up for re-election and while another big legislative issue -- climate change -- is already on their plate.

"I don't want us to do something just for the sake of politics that doesn't solve the problem," Obama told reporters Wednesday night aboard Air Force One.

Immigration reform was an issue Obama promised Latino groups that he would take up in his first year in office. But several hard realities -- a tanked economy, a crowded agenda, election-year politics and lack of political will -- led to so much foot-dragging in Congress that, ultimately, Obama decided to set the issue aside.

With that move, the president calculated that an immigration bill would not prove as costly to his party two years from now, when he seeks re-election, than it would today, even though some immigration reformers warned that a delay could so discourage Democratic-leaning Latino voters that they would stay home from the polls in November.

I was pretty surprised to read this, since the Democrats have been working so hard on the racism meme these past few weeks. Why would they voluntarily give up another opportunity to tar Republicans as racists and fascists? I find it hard to believe that they would let the current "crisis" in Arizona go to waste.

But perhaps hard reality has actually trumped politics in this case. According to a new Angus Reid Public Opinion Poll, 71% of respondents supported the arrest of aliens who are in America illegally. Further, 64% believe illegal immigration has hurt our economy, 58% believe illegal immigrants take jobs away from American workers, and 45% support the termination and deportation of undocumented workers.

These numbers seem to jive with a Rasmussen poll released a few days ago that reported 60% of respondents favoring the Arizona law. Also, in the Rasmussen poll 77% of Republicans, 62% of independents, and surprisingly 50% of Democrats supported the Arizona Law. The same survey also showed that 70% of Arizonans support the new law. And apparently Arizona Governor Jan Brewer got a "bounce" in her approval rating as a result of signing the law.

Brewer's sudden popularity shouldn't startle anyone. The new Arizona law exists because Arizona has a unique problem with illegal immigrants. In 2007, illegal immigrants in Maricopa County made up 9% of the county's population, yet accounted for 19% of those convicted of crimes and 21% of those in county jails. During the same period, illegal aliens in Maricopa County were responsible for:

  • 10% of sex crimes convictions
  • 11% of murders convictions
  • 13% of stolen cars convictions
  • 13% of aggravated assaults convictions
  • 17% of those sentenced for violent crimes
  • 19% of those sentenced for property crimes
  • 20% of those sentenced for felony DUI
  • 21% of crimes committed with weapons
  • 34% of those sentenced for the manufacture, sale or transport of drugs
  • 36% of those sentenced for kidnapping
  • 44% of forgeries
  • 50% of those sentenced for crimes related to "chop shops"
  • 85% of false ID convictions
  • 96% of smuggling convictions

And Arizonans aren't the only ones having a problem with illegal immigration. It's simply common sense to expect that blue collar union workers are going to be very concerned about anything that could potentially contribute to higher unemployment. Illegal immigration is certainly such an issue. And one of the worst-kept political secrets (though it is generally ignored by the media) about the African-American community is its long-running and deep-seated antagonism toward Hispanics. Today -- in spite of the pro immigration rent-a-mobs led by Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson -- with the unemployment for inner city black males approaching 50%, the relationship between these two prominent racial minorities is probably very tense.

On second thought, when one takes all of this into consideration, the "racism" meme just doesn't work. As clever as David Axelrod and Rahm Emmanuel are, there is no way they could smear blacks, union workers, and 50% of registered Democrats as "racists" and hope to achieve any sort of political victory. I also have to wonder if President Obama's own blatant appeal to racial demography this past week actually ended up dividing, rather than uniting, the Democrat base. If the White House's own internal polling reflected the same things I just discussed here, then undoubtedly they know that immigration is a losing issue right now.

OT, but did anyone know about this (from the HotAir comments section):

McCain requested that Obama send 3000 National Guard to the AZ border. I though this sounded strange – isn’t it the AZ Gov that deploys National Guard? Then I found this – Executive Order 13528, signed Jan 11 2010:

creating the Council of Governors removing the responsibility of the National Guard from the specific state governors to the Council appointed by the President.

So now the AZ Gov cannot deploy the AZ NG without approval from the President and his Council of Governors? Was anyone paying attention when this happened?

This bothers me a LOT. He just changed the rule, no debate, no peep from Congress, nothing? What else did he just change that we haven’t heard about? What else might he just change that we won’t know about?

This feels very dictatorish to me.

April 30, 2010 at 10:21 pm

The order in its own words.

April 30, 2010 at 11:10 pm

Here is a very good article about the threat to freedom represented by that Executive Order:

But the best article I’ve read on the topic, and the one that gives the most background on it, is this one:

May 1, 2010 at 12:13 am

Something has changed. President Bush couldn’t send the Guard troops to New Orleans because the governor wouldn’t request them. He asked her on Friday and again on Sunday. Then he was blamed because they weren’t there. He went by the rules.

Cue Twilight Zone:

Meanwhile... Teh Otters! Teh Otters!

My faith in offshore drilling has not been rocked by this -- shit happens, world goes on, let's try to find a way to make sure this sort of thing doesn't happen again.

And while I like animals and don't want to see them dead for no reason than error, I really don't like to see people die for no reason than error either.  I don't have to love them or think them cute to hate to see their lives wasted by an accident.

What kills me though is the hand wringing and the lack of proactive response -- essentially all that is really getting accomplished is a back and forth shouting match of recriminations that does nothing helpful.  Some people died, some coastline is going to be contaminated, a bunch of oil that would have been really nice to use is wasted, and people are spending more energy on a shouting match than anything else (and if more attention had been paid to trying to perfect the systems, it need not have been so bad all the way around).  That's what really kills me.

Obama's Oil Slick Makes Landfall

...the oil spill booms are stored on military facilities with quick access to aircraft, waiting presidential order which didn't come until today.

The OPA grand plan idea was a spill was sighted, the president would spot it, the resources would deploy and the spill would be contained. Another government grand plan goes poof.

Only problem was president was playing politics campaigning and lying about everything, instead of doing his job. Maybe we can impeach him over the damage he allowed to be caused by not acting.

Search for OPA 1990 for more on the details of what the responsibilities of our so-called president, and what he must do. In our case, I guess he thought he should just go get some rags and help wipe birds.

Meanwhile for the last 9 days the oil has been a gushing.

Obama’s Dilemma: Oil Spill in Gulf of Mexico Etc.

"For the first time in his Presidency, President Obama is facing a catastrophe that is, hopefully, not man-made and requires sharp, responsive decisions. Unfortunately, "The One" who absolutely shredded George Bush's response to Hurricane Katrina shows that the new Emperor has no clothes... nor, apparently, a body to hang them on if he did. The vaccuous character of Barack Obama is being exposed here and it's on a spin-free cycle. And that's bad news for Obama fans... and Obama himself. "

UPDATE: NYT editorial: Obama should have acted sooner on the oil spill. “First Bill Maher wonders aloud why The One isn’t getting more crap about the spill, and now this. Obamanomics Explained

Rasmussen By the Numbers (Democrats' nightmare)

Something truly strange is going on — we don’t know yet, but wonder if May Day protests are part of it.

Yesterday, the Drudge Report ran this weird collection of stories centered on the Obamas — all of them old and recycled:

The current president is as heterosexual as Tom Cruise and John Travolta.

The current first lady would care about Obama fooling around with a woman as much as Katie Holmes or Kelly Preston would care about their own husbands doing that.  All of them would be stunned, and would probably laugh to hear the men they are married to had sex with a woman, but none of them would especially care. They are married to these men for a reason, and it’s not because they are madly in love with them, and vice versa.

The other weird bit is the old story about Maria Pinto’s clothing line collapsing making news again.  Drudge ran a story about this months ago.  We know, because we saw it and then did a piece on it ourselves, because we know Pinto from fashion events in Chicago we were involved in — and she’s not a nice woman, so no one should be too sad about her business going under.

So, why are all these old stories coming out today?

Why does the White House feel the need to put out stories about the president being a randy stud — who loves women?

It’s a giant mystery.

The only thing we can think of is that David Axelrod is trying to put the image of a virile, womanizing Obama out there ahead of a himbo eruption — or possibly some kind of retribution from Kal Penn, more upset about Obama breaking things off with him and booting him from the White House than anyone thought he would be.

OR, more interestingly than that, we wonder what Reggie Love is doing right now.  Is he happy in the White House?  He hasn’t been in the news in months, and we have not spotted him in any of the photos coming out of the press pool in a while.  Where’s Reggie Love?  Now, if he and Obama are on the outs, then things could get REALLY INTERESTING.

Perhaps the world would finally know what a “body man” really does.

What else is on your minds this Saturday?

2. Whoever is in charge of the world has decided, enough is enough, the shill has outlived his usefulness.

“Immigration” isn’t the problem.

For the most part, the controversy we face isn’t about immigration at all. It’s about the systematic failure of federal government to enforce the law or offer rational policy. There’s a difference.

Gallup polls (and others) taken over the past decade find that around 60 percent of Americans, when asked whether immigration was generally a good thing or a bad thing for the country, believe it to be a positive. Yet, when Gallup recently polled Americans about the new Arizona law that cracks down on illegal immigrants, of the three-quarters of voters who had heard about the then-pending legislation, 51 percent said they favor it while only 39 percent say they oppose it.

Americans value immigration. They recoil from lawlessness. And frustration over the impotent border enforcement has manifested itself in a flailing overreach. Arizona’s law isn’t a referendum on Latinos or even immigration itself. It’s an unambiguous rebuke of Washington.

Indeed. Read the whole thing.

May Day/Che Day: Reconquista returns

By Michelle Malkin  •  May 1, 2010 12:00 AM

The open-borders lobby can try and hide its radicalism with a carefully-orchestrated show of American flags, but the movement’s reconquista roots always expose themselves on May Day. The first sign above was displayed at the 2006 May Day protest in Denver and the infamous American flag-toppling in the second photo took place at a Montebello (CA) H.S. May Day march. The third photo comes from the Arizona protest last week, via Mark Krikorian. And the fourth photo is the official May Day (Che Day!) 2010 image. Take a refresher course here and here.

As I noted last week in my gallery of open-borders extremists, the Che Guevara-loving, sovereignty-destroying agitators are leading today’s annual illegal alien marches across the country. The National Immigrant Solidary Network is organizing many of the events (background on the group from Discover the Networks here). See if there’s one in your neighborhood and help do the reporting the MSM won’t do. Oh, and a warning: Beware of Purple-Shirted SEIU amnesty thugs:

Limbaugh mocked Obama’s dreadful response to the oil rig disaster yesterday…
Send in SWAT… Those violent grandmas are at it again.

From the Rush Limbaugh website:

Ladies and gentlemen, I didn’t hear this myself, but I have been informed that President Obama is sending SWAT teams to the Gulf oil rigs. SWAT teams? I’m waiting on audio sound bite confirmation of this, but why in the world would you send SWAT teams to Gulf oil rigs? Oh, I know! Obama probably thinks the tea party blew up the rig. That’s what it is. (laughing) Yes. Of course the tea party did it! (laughing) Seriously, you know, this rig… We had this call from a guy out there who said nobody’s talking about whether this was an act of sabotage because I guess they can’t prove it, but they’re going to send SWAT teams down there? He was going to send a SWAT team to the rig that blew up or are you going to send a SWAT team to other rigs? What’s going on here? Remember, this rig blew April 21st, which is one day prior to “Erf” Day.

I have a story here from Reuters, September 24th, 2008 (shuffling paper) right here in my formerly nicotine-stained fingers: “Nobel Peace Prize winner and environmental crusader Al Gore urged young people on Wednesday to engage in civil disobedience to stop the construction of coal plants without the ability to store carbon.” So you got the guru here urging civil disobedience, you got the regime sending SWAT teams down there to all the rigs in the Gulf. They’re sending SWAT teams to all the rigs in the Gulf! Whoa ho-ho-ho. So obviously Obama thinks the tea partiers are expert scuba divers as well or maybe they have their own fleet of underwater submarines that can go deep enough to go undetected, set explosives, and hightail it back to the protests in Ohio, or wherever they (laughing) happen to be.

So 15 years of no global warming. “That’s just anecdotal! It doesn’t disapprove anything! It doesn’t disapprove that there’s a man-made threat going on.” But one oil spill — one oil spill which might have been intentional — is enough to prove that offshore oil drilling is unsafe and should never be done. This is the logic we’re forced to live with.

More… Rush Limbaugh also mocked Obama’s sideshow press conference on his show.

“This guy does really not want to be president. He doesn’t want to deal with America’s problems. He wants to make sure he gets his transformation done. So, we had an oil slick, added benefit… Now we can cancel offshore drilling.”

(FOX News)

As the oil gusher spirals out of control, Team Obama officials admit they didn’t even know that the Defense Department had equipment that could help contain the oil slick.
The New York Times reported:

As oil edged toward the Louisiana coast and fears continued to grow that the leak from a seabed oil well could spiral out of control, officials in the Obama administration publicly chastised BP America for its handling of the spreading oil gusher in the Gulf of Mexico, where Obama is expected to travel this weekend.

Yet a review of the response suggests it may be too simplistic to place all the blame for the unfolding environmental catastrophe on the oil company. The federal government also had opportunities to move more quickly, but did not do so while it waited for a resolution to the spreading spill from BP.

The Department of Homeland Security waited until Thursday to declare that the incident was “a spill of national significance,” and then set up a second command center in Mobile, Ala. The actions came only after the estimate of the size of the spill was increased fivefold to 5,000 barrels a day.

The delay meant that the Homeland Security Department waited until late this week to formally request a more robust response from the Department of Defense, with Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano acknowledging even as late as Thursday afternoon that she did not know if the Defense Department even had equipment that might be helpful.

By Friday afternoon, she said, the Defense Department had agreed to send two large military transport planes to spray chemicals that can disperse the oil while it is still in the Gulf.

Car bomb fails to explode in Times Square [Darleen Click]

… but, heavens! Don’t call it terrorism!

The police discovered a car bomb in a smoking Nissan Pathfinder in the heart of Times Square, prompting the evacuation of thousands of tourists and theatergoers from the area on a warm and busy Saturday evening.

There was no explosion. [...]

The device, [Deputy Commissioner Paul J. Browne, the Police Department’s chief spokesman] said, contained “explosive elements” that included “propane tanks, some kind of powder, gasoline and a timing device.” [...]

Mr. Browne, speaking shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday, said that he did not believe anyone was in custody. “We haven’t identified any kind of a motive,” he said. “It appears to be a car bomb, but we haven’t attached a motive to it.”

So? I believe the intent to murder and maim is quite evident.

A federal official said that domestic security officials had been informed that the event did not appear to be a terrorist threat.

Excuse me? How did they arrive at that immediate conclusion?

Sweet baby Jesus.

h/t Hot Air where AP reminds us:

What makes me nervous is the use of propane. Remember that London bombing plot three years ago, in which jihadis tried — and failed — to set off a bunch of car bombs around the city? Quote
The car bombs were similar to highly destructive explosives used in Iraq and could have killed hundreds of people, U.S. and British officials told NBC News. British officials warned that the country was facing a “serious and sustained” terrorist threat…

Authorities believe [the first car] was intended to be set off by remote control by a cell phone found inside. The cell phone had received at least two calls, which should have detonated several gallons of gasoline, but when the calls came in, the bomb failed to go off, the official said.

Had it done so, that blast then would have ignited six to eight tanks of propane in a mist to make a fuel-air explosion, creating a fireball the size of a small house and propelling 18 to 20 boxes of roofing nails around a large area at bullet speed, counterterrorism officials said.

With NYPD already attempting to squash any terrorism link, how much can we trust them to be honest with the findings of their investigation?

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – President Barack Obama took aim Saturday

...The government is “him.”...just like France’s King Louis XIV, it’s clear that Mr. Obama thinks “L’etat c’est moi.” That any criticism of his policies of him, is criticism of the state – outright sedition....

Just imagine the outrage if Mr. Bush has ever given a commencement address at an all white college?

But as we have oft noted, if it weren’t for double standards, the left would have no standards at all.

There was a pro-illegal immigrant protest in New York City today at Union Square.
Andrew Berman was there and posted several photos from the anti-American rally.
Here’s one:

This violent sign – “death to US imperial-fascists” – probably won’t make the news tonight.

Suddenly, it’s fashionable to carry swastikas again.

Of course, the state-run media won’t say boo about these Nazi signs. After all, there’s a conservative pictured on the sign.

Thousands gather for immigrant rights march in downtown L.A.

Misleading and dishonest headline. The march is not for “immigrant rights”, it is a march supporting ILLEGAL immigrants.

“Everyone in God’s eyes is legal,” [Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa] said. “We are all standing w[ith] our immigrant (sic) brothers and sisters.” [...]

One man in the crowd wore a white T-shirt with black block letters reading “Todos Somos Arizona” or “We are all Arizona.” Another bobbed a sign over the crowd with a swastika scrawled in between the names of Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who strongly supported the new law.

Union members blew horns and chanted “no human being is illegal” over the rhythmic melodies of a mariachi band.

UPDATE 2: 1:50pm PDT

From Digger, Ms. Salcedo above is not alone

Since that time many Americans of Hispanic descent have become very active in the community opposing illegal immigration. They are largely ignored by the media because they don’t fit with their agenda. Most of the media will go to the National Council of La Raza or to some immigration attorney who happens to be of Hispanic descent to provide the “Hispanic view” when it comes to illegal immigration. One and all they spout that they represent the growing 44 million Hispanics in the United States and try to make sure it is understood that all Hispanics vote in a big bloc of voters.

The truth is that the views on illegal immigration in the Hispanic community are nearly equally split.

Spill Baby Spill

I thought they had remote cutoff systems:

As work crews try to contain an oil well that is pumping thousands of barrels of crude oil a day into the Gulf of Mexico, many businesses are bracing for the worst.

Much is at stake. BP [BP 51.58 -0.98 (-1.86%)], owner of operator of the well, has already had its image dented by recent accidents. This event will likely cause its image further harm—not to mention the millions in costs associated with containing the spill and drilling a new well.

But the fallout stretches well beyond that. The oil industry is fresh from a victory over President Obama's decision to open up parts of the Atlantic coast and eastern Gulf of Mexico to offshore drilling.

How can "Drill Baby Drill" go ahead, when government doesn't require the industry to use the most modern safety equipment available:

Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., sent President Obama a letter Thursday reminding him that in 2000 the Interior Department insisted "oil companies have 'reliable backup systems' in the event of a rig blowout."

By 2003, the plan was scrapped.

"This could be one of the world's greatest nightmare scenarios of an oil gusher," Nelson said.

The backup systems are supposed to act when an oil rig fails and starts leaking. Then, a valve deep under the water where the drill pipe meets the ocean floor is supposed to choke off the flow of oil. In the case of BP's platform, either the valve wasn't activated or didn't work, possibly because of the explosion.

But there is another line of defense this oil platform did not have, a so-called acoustic switch. It can be activated by remote control sending acoustic pulses through the water to trigger the blowout preventer even if the rig is damaged or evacuated.

Acoustic switches are used in Norway and Brazil after those oil producing countries suffered spills. The U.S. considered requiring them, but drilling companies questioned the $500,000 cost and whether the devices even work.

OUCH: White House ( tries to ) Fend Off Specter of Katrina in Federal Response to Oil Spill. “As the massive oil slick grows worse by the day, the White House is fighting off a growing perception that the federal response to this ecological disaster is President Obama’s Katrina.”
Posted by Jim Hoft on Sunday, May 2, 2010, 9:43 AM

Obama’s Katrina.
12 days after the explosion, Barack Obama will visit the disaster zone today.

After 12 days of campaigning against the Arizona immigration law and Wall Street bankers while pushing his next big government takeovers in energy and banking, Barack Obama finally decided to visit the oil slick disaster zone today.

Doug Ross posted President Obama’s activities the last 12 days while the oil slick grew to over 1,000 square kilometers. The President is finally visiting the disaster zone today.

U.S. President Barack Obama (L) is saluted as he walks to the Marine One helicopter to depart for a trip to Louisiana to witness the response to oil spill damage along the Gulf Coast, from the White House in Washington, May 2, 2010. (Reuters)

Yesterday, The New York Times reported that Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano was not aware the Defense Department had equipment for dealing with oil slicks. The White House defended their non-response today.

On the day before a crude car bomb was defused in Times Square, the NY Daily News ran an article describing the increasing frequency of homegrown Islamic terrorist attempts. These include:

  • Najibullah Zazi, a US permanent resident accused of attempting a 2009 suicide bombing of the New York subway system in 2009, together with Bryant Neal Vinas, a Muslim American, who also trained for the same attack.
  • The cases of Wesam El-Hanafi and Sabirhan Hasanoff, both US citizens, who were tasked with providing technical assistance to al-Qaeda via Yemen.
  • Hosam Maher Husein Smadi, an illegal alien from Jordan arrested on suspicion of planning to blow up the Fountain Place in Dallas.

The Daily News lists many others, including the Lackawanna Six, the Sears Tower plot and about a dozen more cases, all involving either US citizens or permanent residents. Its inference is simple. Islamic extremism can no longer be stopped at the borders. It’s here. The Daily News writes, “Al Qaeda no longer needs a command center. Its foot soldiers are everywhere. They need only to win once, while the good guys have to win every time. How long can a winning streak go? Forever, one prays.”

As I write, I have my papers on me -- and not just because I’m in Arizona. I’m an immigrant, and it is a condition of my admission to this great land that I carry documentary proof of my residency status with me at all times and be prepared to produce it to law-enforcement officials, whether on a business trip to Tucson or taking a 20-minute stroll in the woods back at my pad in New Hampshire.

Who would impose such an outrageous Nazi fascist discriminatory law?

Er, well, that would be Franklin Roosevelt.

But don’t let the fine print of the New Deal prevent you from going into full-scale meltdown. “Boycott Arizona-stan!” urges MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann, surely a trifle Islamophobically. What has some blameless Central Asian basket case done to deserve being compared to a hellhole like Phoenix?

The violent left was at it again, doing what it does best…
Rioting, smashing windows, blocking firemen from a torched building after their immigration protest yesterday in Santa Cruz.
Many in the group were carrying makeshift torches as they marched. 15 businesses were victimized by this group.
What started out as a dance rave ended with smashed windows and a burning coffee house:

Of course, the state-run media has been hush-hush about this violent attack.
The Mercury News reported:

A group of protesters demonstrating at a May Day rally for worker’s and immigrant rights downtown broke off into a riot vandalizing about a dozen businesses around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, police said.
Windows were left shattered and graffiti including anarchy signs were tagged onto buildings. The Rittenhouse Building, Urban Outfitters, Jamba Juice and Velvet Underground all had windows broken, according to Capt. Steve Clark.

Santa Cruz police asked for help from all agencies in the county to break up the riot of about 200 people. At one point, protesters lit a fire on the porch of Caffe Pergolesi and blocked access to firefighters, officers said. Police were able to clear out the demonstrators before more damage was caused.

A large rock sat outside Verizon Wireless on the 100 block of Cooper Street, where vandals tried to break the window twice, according to Clark.

“The damage that was caused was without purpose,” Clark said. “It was senseless violence that victimized a community who cannot afford to be victimized in this manner. This did nothing to add credit to whatever they believed their cause was.”

One person was arrested for damaging a window. Police are searching for others responsible for the damage. Protesters cleared the downtown area around midnight.

Obama tells Palestinians that Israel is to blame

Video shows federal officials knew quickly of potential for massive oil flow in Gulf spill

‘Obama’s Katrina’: an Illustrated Timeline
153 We're going to see hours of TV time of people cleaning oil of frickin' seabirds.  In the Valdez spill they spent something like an average of $6,000 PER BIRD.  JH Christ, people let them die!  You can't walk a hundred yards along the beach without scaring up a hundred damn seabirds.  We can afford to lose a few.  Really.
And there'll be a no-limit credit card when it comes to cute shit like otters and dolphins and whatever.  Didn't they spend something like $80,000 on one single otter at the Valdez site?
When the Torrey Canyon went down off Spain, about half of the spill site was cleaned up before the Spanish government ran out of the money they'd been given for the cleanup.  So they walked away from the rest.  Biologists went back about 7 years later and found the areas they tried to clean (using detergents, etc) were still recovering, and the areas they'd left the hell alone were nearly spotless.  Oil is a food source and what do you know, there are various microorganism that'll munch down on it.  The food source expands, they breed like hell, the food source is gone, they die, all the sea critters that eat dead shit clean them up, and all is well.  Might even get some nice crabs out of it.  (The same thing happened at the Valdez site.  Some of the areas where they steam-cleaned the rocks are still desolate.)
And my first wife used to tell me about the beaches off Santa Barbara getting hit with seeps every once in a while.  Her parents would pour kerosene into a pan so the kids could clean the tar off their feet.  She's a raving loony enviro, but even she admits Mother Nature can be a bitch.

Finally, a Decent Report on the Deepwater Horizon Incident

by snork ( 109 Comments › )
Filed under Technology at May 2nd, 2010 - 6:15 pm

Not in the NYT, or the AP, or Reuters, but at WUWT. Complete with lots of pictures (do click the link, and look), it comes with as close to a technical explanation as I’ve seen so far.

It is thought that somehow formation fluids – oil /gas – got into the wellbore and were undetected until it was too late to take action. With a floating drilling rig setup, because it moves with the waves, currents, and winds, all of the main pressure control equipment sits on the seabed – the uppermost unmoving point in the well. This pressure control equipment – the Blowout Preventers, or ‘BOP’s” as they’re called, are controlled with redundant systems from the rig. In the event of a serious emergency, there are multiple Panic Buttons to hit, and even fail-safe Deadman systems that should be automatically engaged when something of this proportion breaks out. None of them were aparently activated, suggesting that the blowout was especially swift to escalate at the surface. The flames were visible up to about 35 miles away. Not the glow – the flames. They were 200 – 300 ft high.

First of all, this seems to all but rule sabotage out, because even if someone was able to sever control lines near the top (which would have almost certainly been detected), the “deadman” systems don’t depend on anything in the rig, and are self-contained a mile down, well beyond the reach of saboteurs. So please, control your inner truther.

What appears to have happened, if I can translate the jargon, is that they were driving the casing into the sea bed, when they ran into an unexpected pocket of oil and/or gas under pressure, and the unexpected pressure surge got past several valves in the blowout preventer tree (for reasons that are still under investigation) and overwhelmed the apparatus on the rig. I’ve personally seen what can happen when a rush of pressurized gas suddenly hits a vessel, and at some point, even pressure relief equipment, and even an open vent can’t limit the pressure, and the vessel will rupture. That appears to be what happened.

A Typical Blowout Preventer

With that, the oil and gas ignited, and the rest was inevitable. Most of the crew were safely evacuated, but 11 are missing, and presumed dead. The $350,000,000 rig collapsed, and sank from the fire. Yes, Rosie, fire softens steel enough to cause the structure to collapse without melting it.

So details are still pretty sketchy, but I don’t think was done by the Saudi navy. Another meme that’s making the rounds on the internet is that an “acoustic valve” would have prevented the disaster. It’s way too early to be certain of that. We don’t know why the deadman switch failed, and if it failed, there’s a strong chance that the same cause for that would have prevented an acoustic valve from working. So let’s not go truther on that either, even though everybody from DU to the WSJ is clucking that meme.

Sometimes the answer is simply, “we don’t know”, but all available evidence indicates that the Vatican wasn’t involved, nor the Red Army, nor the Freemasons, and neither was BP’s desire to save a half million, which is pocket change.

These photos are amazing, thanks for the posting. I follow another blog written by an oil industry insider who has a good perspective on comparable situations. Its worth look.

Some of the comments here have been extremely helpful, and I appreciate them. I also appreciate the comments by “James” on Mark Levin, and the comments by “horizon37″ at the following site (from a link above) . These gentlemen seem to know what they’re talking about. As for this “shutting down all Gulf oil exploration”, I don’t think even our current government is that stupid. THAT would certainly lead to a total disaster for them come November. This is, by all accounts, just Nature proving once again that, despite our best attempts, She is still in charge.

As for this being the biggest disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, someone needs to read some history. Google “Ixtoc disaster”, or go here

The Bully Party:

The omens are everywhere. Iran is close to obtaining nuclear weapons. The eurozone is in crisis. The U.S. unemployment rate is near 10 percent. America’s social insurance programs threaten to bankrupt the country. And—most unusual—the Washington Nationals are above .500.

But rest easy. None of this is distracting the Obama administration and congressional Democrats from their fulltime occupation: demonizing the political opposition.

It’s their main tactic. Plus this: “The Democratic response to dissent is a lot like their governing style: partisan, arrogant, and self-righteous.”

Chicago Teachers' Union Chant: "Where is the Money? Where is the Money?"

What’s remarkable about all the worry about Obama suspending elections is that people remarkably believe, in their hearts, the current president is capable of this.

Today, we had a very interesting conversation with a friend in the South that hit on a few points we’ve seen and read elsewhere, repeatedly, in the last few days.  One of the things we talked about was that this friend truly believes all of us engaged and following the news closely these days were “called” to do so — to be eyes and ears, and to evolve into the 21st Century town criers to warn our friends, neighbors, and fellow Americans about the dangers of allowing the current Socialist-Democrat party to maintain its hold over the nation.

She told us there’s a reason the lot of us in Boystown have kept up this site, a reason why we’ve sunk everything we had into this effort, and a reason we keep going, despite how exhausting it is and how hard it is to keep track of everything the DNC’s Cloward-Piven Strategy and Alinsky Methods are doing behind the scenes.

READ IT ALL- at the link...

Here’s something we are wondering and thinking about today.

Dr. Utopia, our current president, spent much of 2008 high up on stages that put many of Andrew Lloyd Weber’s spectacles to shame.

He nanced, and he pranced, and he razzle-dazzled the same sorts of fools who, back when we were in grade school, were razzle-dazzled by Milli Vanilli — like Obama, these were charming, effeminate, foreign, light-skinned black men without substance (but knew how to put on a show in a big stadium).

We clearly remember “The Lightbringer” announcing the end to all human problems, effective immediately upon his inauguration.  He was going to heal the world, he said, lower the oceans, repair the hole in the ozone, eliminate all diseases, and usher in a Golden Age of Hope and Change upon this Earth.  The audacity of his personality and the superhuman capabilities of his own personal charisma would convince hurricanes to bedraggle us no more, and tornadoes to “chill out”.

The current First Lady, Mrs. Utopia, hectored non-believers, admonishing them that not only was she proud of her country for the first time now that her husband was winning elections on the national stage, but that soon he’d set about work “fixing your broken souls”.

Mary sure hasn’t been able to fix the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Miss Thang doesn’t even seem all that concerned about it, if he had time enough last night to yuck it up with Jay Leno in his tux, with Michelle squeezed into a red velvet sausage casing.

So, we wonder, with all the powers of the most powerful country to ever exist on this Earth, with all of the umpteen government departments and the entire reach of Washington — as Commander in Chief of the world’s most powerful military, including the greatest navy to ever sail the seas — why hasn’t the Lightbringer averted disaster and saved the Gulf coast states from the oil spill?

Obama said he could do anything.

He promised he had the leadership and the know-how to usher in a utopia of his own making.

Where are our unicorns?

Aren’t they good at soaking up spilled oil?

Better question:  if Obama and Democrats can’t handle an oil spill — something that government agencies should have been prepared for since the Exxon Valdez spill in the late 80s — then how on Earth are these same slow-moving, myopic, delusional buffoons going to handle the myriad of unanticipated and unpredictable disasters that await in the government takeover of 1/16th of the economy.

If the Gulf states are waiting for Washington to decide what to do with a black pool of disaster headed towards shore any day, how are you going to feel waiting by the phone under a black could of uncertainty as an Obama-created Death Panel decides whether or not you’re going to get the cancer treatment you need when you get sick and Washington starts overruling doctors as it rations our healthcare?

Obama promised miracles.

Instead, he’s thrown a great many parties, had plenty of laughs, and his wife has scowled an awful lot — like, Guinness Book of Records-winning in terms of clocking in those scowls — but we’ve yet to see any miracles.

Considering how much Democrats are supposed to love the environment, and how effective and dynamic Obama is supposed to be as a leader, then we wonder how on Earth a disaster like this oil spill can be explained, in this the Golden Age of Hope and Change.

AND we also have to stop and think about whether or not the people behind this failure of basic competence and resource utilization can be trusted with managing the nation’s healthcare resources.

If Obama can’t stop an oil spill from spreading and killing everything in its path, should he and his death panels be trusted with treating your cancer and saving your life?

What think you?

To put "Obozo's Katrina" in perspective?

Transocean Horizon Spill... "Obama's Katrina"?

Panic time, folks.  News stories about impending environmental disasters.  A couple of senators calling for hearings.  The media calling it "Obama's Katrina".  Time for that rarest of things, perspective.

1.  Chance that a US operated Gulf of Mexico rig sinks and spills?  A. 0.025% or 1 in 4000.

2.  How much oil will this spill (worst case scenario)?  A. 150,000 barrels.

3.  How much is it leaking now?  A. 5,000 barrels per day, although it sounds so much bigger when you multiply by 42 and put it into gallons.

4.  How much natural oil seepage is there in the Gulf of Mexico?  A.  5,000 barrels per day, although it is widely distributed and not point sourced.

5.  Where will this rank?  A. 37th in the world's top 71 man-made oil spills.

6.  What happened to the 121,000 barrels spilled by the Mega Borg (the second largest spill in the GOM)?  A. They burned it.  1800 barrels recovered, 270 barrels left after burning, so, in essence, via burning and wind and wave action biodegradation, 121,000 barrels turned into a little over 2000 barrels.  The Prudhoe Bay incident was magnified because it had little wind or wave action... it was a closed system.

7.  How does this compare to, say, wildfires?  A. Wildfires fully devastate the areas they cover, and typically take 5-30 years to fully recover from a ground fire and up to 150 years to recover from a crown fire.  Full recovery from an oil spill is typically a year or less.

8.  OK, but how about the carbon footprint between them?  A.  In fully protected fire areas (a small amount of total forest), there are typically 10,000 to 30,000 forest fires per year world wide.  These consume 16,000,000 hectares per year, and release 1.6 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year (mind you, this is just a small subset of fires, the subset we are most able to fight and protect).  This spill will release, at most a little over 52,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent.  That is, 0.0033% of fully protected fightable wildfires.

9.  But, but... the poor birds?  A.  Fires fully incinerate the animals they touch.  Oily animals make fine, heart-rending posters and cover shots for Time.

So now lets look at the number of these spills...

Now, let's look at the charts.  First, how will this rank in terms of Gulf of Mexico spills?

Worst case, a very distant second.  Interestingly, only 3 came from drilling or production platforms.

How does this rate from a global perspective?

Worldwide Spills
Pretty low, actually.  Lets look at this ordered by volume.  By the way, this chart really illustrates how much better industry practices have become in both shipping and drilling.

Spills 2
Pretty weak from a Global Disaster point of view.

In essence, one could fit the environmental consequences of every spill in the history of the hydrocarbon era into one small forest fire, out of the 10,000 we have every year.

In fact, those that are trying to label this as a "Katrina" episode, either motivated to hate the oil industry for whatever reason or hate Obama for whatever reason (imagine THAT combination of folks, a lot of whiskey and beer, with maybe Alex Jones thrown in for good measure, at a party!  What a fine party that would be!), are just propagandizing, as usual.

So those are the facts.  Make of them what you will.  Without perspective, you are bound to make poor decisions.

Michael Barone: Obama, Brown, and the ‘Third Way’ - The Left loses its way by abandoning the...

Important article by Michael Barone. Third Way is essentially a remaking of liberal / communist economic ideas of governmental ownership of means of production into a fascist economic model where outright ownership is replaced by total control.

It's more efficient economically since it keeps certain incentives to work and get ahead in society while reducing level of corruption inherent in communist societies, and allows government to find scapegoats and blame "the greedy" and "someone else" for the problems actually caused by the system, e.g. Goldman Sachs and "fat cats on Wall Street" for mortgage crisis and financial system meltdown, while keeping CRA regulations, ruinous expansion of fiscal and taxation policies and Fannie, Freddie and FHA safely out of people's minds.

Fannie and Freddie, before their recent de facto nationalizing, were perfect examples of Third Way being GSEs - operations that allowed for private ownership and profits for the politically connected elite class, while advancing government policy ("Home Ownership Society) where the losses were guaranteed by the society at large. Fannie, Freddie and FHA now own or control 9 out of 10 mortgages in U.S. And we see the same thing in GM takeover and attempt to effectively nationalize the health insurance and financial industries.

Blair and Clintons, along with Chretien and others, were in forefront of Third Way, with their New Democrats and New Labour spend-and-pretend policies designed to give government more and stronger control over industries and means of production and service. That's the task for Republicans to properly explain to people - when the government has total control over private endeavor and means to profit, people are no longer free, it's not a "free country" anymore..

The May Day angry mob you won’t see

Reconquista revolution without borders! (Photo credit: El Marco, Denver)

They came, they saw, they threatened or committed violence in the name of open borders and workers’ rights. But alas, Frank Rich and Paul Krugman’s columns decrying the insane rage and hate of the May Day angry mob got lost in the mail.

In Santa Cruz, they carried torches and vandalized at least 18 businesses:

Downtown business owners spent Sunday repairing shattered windows and doors after a May Day rally Saturday night turned into a riot with approximately 250 people marching along Pacific Avenue, some carrying makeshift torches, throwing large rocks and paint bombs, and spray-painting walls with graffiti.

At least 18 businesses suffered damage during the rally in honor of international workers that began at 9 p.m. and escalated into mayhem around 10:30 p.m., police said. Investigators estimated damage at $100,000, though some business owners said it could be more. No injuries were reported.

On Sunday, sea green-colored glass littered sidewalks where windows and glass doors had been smashed. Maintenance workers, many getting called in the middle of the night, boarded up windows with plywood until new sheets of glass could be installed.

The vandalized businesses included Urban Outfitters, Peet’s Coffee, Noah’s Bagels, Jamba Juice, Velvet Underground and Dell Williams Jewelers. The unoccupied Rittenhouse building also was damaged. A police car was vandalized with rocks and paint, department spokesman Zach Friend said.

In San Francisco, anti-illegal immigration activists were attacked by the May Day marchers:

LISA AMIN GULEZIAN, REPORTER: Allan, for the most part the event was peaceful, but just about an hour ago, three people were attacked and two others were arrested. The people who were assaulted were part of the Minutemen demonstration in favor of Arizona’s new immigration law.

They said a large group of immigrants’ rights supporters followed them to the BART station on Market Street and started punching and kicking them, and calling them names.

PARKER WILSON, BAY AREA ANARCHIST: They said we were racists, and that we were against them, and against their town, and against San Francisco, and what they were saying. They said we needed to get out and they called us racists, and that we need to go home. And then they just attacked my friends and me.

The City Square was at the SF protest and captured the border-sabotaging Che lovers:

Spotted in the window of a San Francisco shop. Didn’t get vandalized, naturally:

An account from the NYC protest:

About an hour later we were heading to a concert on the NYU campus, and started walking down Broadway toward Astor Place. We started hearing lots of police sirens all at once, and then looked straight ahead. There were young guys with baseball bats and Che signs pinned to their backpacks running down the street smashing store windows, all on the west side of Broadway. We stopped dead on a corner, because there were police cars coming from so many different directions the street lights were rendered meaningless. As soon as we stopped, about 6 NYPD units pulled up to our exact corner and the cops jumped out and tackled two of the vandals literally TWO FEET in front of me. Some other officers arrived, jumped out of their cars, and started a crazy foot pursuit of another guy who started running in zig-zags down the middle of Broadway. They tackled him as well, in the middle of the freakin’ street, as cars kept almost hitting everyone involved. It happened incredibly quickly. There were tons of eyewitnesses, and I even saw a few people videotaping, but of course I can’t find mention of this incident anywhere online or in the media. We had about five minutes to get to the concert, so stopping and gawking wasn’t an option. We just kept walking, tried to get away from the whole mess. But we could see and hear police interviewing plenty of witnesses, and heard people say “they just kept breaking windows”, and saw the perps with their faces in the pavement for ourselves.

The current president (left) and Canadian Ellen impersonator Justin Beiber (far right). TV's Michael Dorn looks on in horror (center).

It’s very strange the amount of attention the current President of the United States gives Canadian Ellen Degeneres impersonator, and sometimes singer, Justin Beiber.

For weeks leading up to the White House Easter Egg Roll, Obama kept aides, including his “body man” Reggie Love, in a frenzy, obsessing over whether Beiber would or would not perform for him, and whether he’d get the chance to meet Beiber, and maybe spend a little alone time with him, “just hanging out, maybe playing some Wii, you know, chillin’ like villains”. If the president gave this sort of attention to the oil spill threatening Louisiana and other Gulf Coast states, there wouldn’t be a drop left of crude in the water.

This weekend, the White House still hasn’t figured out an effective strategy for tackling the Gulf disaster, but Beiber was strangely invited to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where Obama insisted he sit at the People Magazine table, so he could have a clear sightline of Beiber at all times.

Here’s the list of the Correspondents’ Dinner attendees, via Nikki Finke’s Deadline Hollywood:

ABC Table: Kathryn Bigelow, Mark Boal; Modern Family‘s Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell; George Stephanopoulos and Ali Wentworth, who invited J.J. Abrams and his wife, Katie McGrath.

American Urban Radio Network Table: Wendy Williams

Bloomberg News Table: Rosario Dawson, James Brooks.

CBS Table: Julianna Margulies; Morgan Freeman; Betty White; Chelsea Handler

CNN Table: Ashley Judd; Dennis Quaid; Quinton Aaron; The Tuohy family, whose story is the basis for the film The Blind Side; James Badge Dale and Jon Seda of the HBO miniseries The Pacific; Larry King, who is bringing Seth MacFarlane and Jeff Probst; Joy Behar.

Creative Coalition Table: Jessica Alba and her husband, Cash Warren; Ashley Greene; Omar Epps; Steven Weber; Cheryl Hines; Adrian Grenier; Spike Lee; Morley Safer; Tom Fontana; and CCH Pounder.

Essence Table: Queen Latifah

Fortune Table: Michael Douglas.

Fox News Channel Table: Vanessa Williams; Chace Crawford; Matthew Morrison; Enrique Iglesias; Ali Larter; Marlon Wayans; Patricia Arquette.

Huffington Post Table: John Cusack; Scarlett Johansson; Jeremy Piven; Ari Emanuel.

NBC Table: Jon Bon Jovi; Anna Kendrick; Bradley Cooper; Alec Baldwin; Ewan McGregor; Jimmy Fallon; Mariska Hargitay; Angela Kinsey; Elisabeth Moss; Fred Armisen; Today and Morning Joe show hosts.

Newsweek Table: Chevy Chase, Jeremy Renner.

New Yorker Table: Judd Apatow and his wife, Leslie Mann, Tracy Morgan.

People Table: Justin Bieber, Gabourey Sidibe, Tom Colicchio, Kristin Davis, Jessica Simpson.

POLITICO Table: Mary J. Blige, The Jonas Brothers, Tim Daly.

Talking Points Memo Table: Darren Star.

Time Table: Steven Spielberg and his wife Kate Capshaw; Michelle Pfeiffer and her husband, David E. Kelley.

Rumored others: Ryan Seacrest, Zach Galifianakis, Terrence Howard.

There are other randoms on this list that raise a few eyebrows here in Boystown, like Chase Crawford and Ryan Seacrest — who, shockingly enough, did not arrive together (now, how they left is another matter, but don’t tell JC Chasez).  Then there’s Bradley Cooper, the Jonas Brothers, Ewan McGregor, and Queen Latifah.

Evidently, the Village People, Lily Tomlin, and the ghost of Liberace were unable to attend.  Rip Taylor’s still prohibited from coming within two miles of any sitting president, as Secret Service strangely classifies confetti as an IED (an Irritating Eye Distractor).

Otherwise, the Capitol Pride invitation list seemed to be cut-and-pasted into the Correspondents’ dinner, though downgraded from full-on Judy to mere Liza in terms of fabulous.

But, with Miss Thang yucking it up with Jay Leno, having a gay old time, as usual for this president, who needs a parade — not with Michelle up there on the dais proud of everything for the first time in her adult life, already dreaming of something even more hideous she could be wearing out in public to another party tomorrow.

What oil spill?

BREAKING NEWS: NYC Car Bombing episode looks increasingly like work of terrorists. It takes a lot to get anyone to admit it. Let’s be aware of this: were it not for technical difficulties last weekend in NY, and in the air last December 26th, we’d now be talking about two successful terrorist attacks on America, in the last 6 months.

The Government is keeping its options open, though. You never know, this might have been the work of government-hating grandmas:

Officials cautioned that even if the investigation points toward an international link, rather than domestic or anti-government groups, that does not mean al-Qaeda or another terrorist organization is necessarily involved.

These are real attacks. They count. The only thing that has kept them from being deadly has been the incompetence of the terrorists, and some eagle-eyed civilians.

I wonder how long our luck will hold?

It’s that time of the day – where I look at my tabbar and realize the best way to share it all with you is just to throw it all your way.

Let’s start with this creepy ad for Big Brother Tax Amnesty.

Three men on different pages of the same book: Victor Davis Hanson, Mark Steyn, and Doug Ross All must-reads, but watch your blood pressure; keep telling yourself, “t’was ever thus…”

Speaking of Ross, he has an illustrated timeline of the oil-spill disaster in the Gulf which, which will have broad consequences and, we are told, looks “like chocolate milk!” – a description only someone with a “D” after his name could ever get away with. But they can get away with saying a lot of questionable, aggressive and bullying or goofy things. Don’t cry about it; life isn’t fair. Just keep track.

Powerline also has a timeline of the spill and the reactions. It seems, according to this video, that some feds realized very quickly the potential for massive oil spilling. Did you know there are Orcas in the Gulf?

Pursuing Holiness on the reasonable costs of drilling for oil. Thoughtful. Meanwhile BP says “we’ll cover costs, but it’s not our fault”

Hey, praying in school is okay in Nashville, now! For some. Some are privileged.

Just as some, like the Dalai Lama, are privileged to observe religious customs without being called men in dresses, or have their believes denigrated, because of political correctness. I wonder if Mo Dowd will be writing any time soon about the need for a Dalai Lama-ess? Would she or the rest dare to tell Archbishop Hilarion that he needs to change his thinking on abortion and ordain some women, stat, or risk public scorn?

But, then, “sexual egalitarianism” is here to stay.

Reason: is the Greek Bailout already making things worse?

Have we ever seen this in history, a nation being “bailed out” of its self-weakening? Historically, I suppose such a nation would be at risk of invasion or conquest by a stronger nation. But we live in kinder and more enlightened times. And that’s good, because no one likes to see war, or the conquest of another country (unless, it seems, that country is Israel, of which both “meddling” and conquest seem to be approved). I suspect that -barring some kind of multi-national legislative “take-over” no one has an actual “solution” to Greece’s problem, which is the same problem that is going to occur in other countries, soon. So…I guess we just keep shoveling money into economic abysses and hope they will magically become prosperous mountains.

Prosperous until the president decides that you’ve made enough money. Time to dust this one off:

I mind people who are bouncing on fluffy pillows of honest-to-goodness wealth shaking a rhetorical finger at us for daring to try to get comfortable on our foam rubber mats of hard-earned wages.

If I lived in California I’d vote for him. What the Democrat party needs is a few Democrat voices willing to actually critique the party and work to change it, instead of just marching in lockstep. This characteristic does exist in the GOP, to some extent. Not that the GOP is much better than the Dems, but it seems to me it does manage to endure a bit of insider-criticism.

Police have arrested an agent of “The Religion of Peace” in connection with the attempted car bombing of NYC’s Times Square this weekend.

Muslim Shahzad Faisal, originally from Pakistan, appears to be the man who bought the car off Craigslist, then loaded it with an IED and hoped to kill hundreds of Americans in crowded Times Square, in front of the Viacom building, to prove how peaceful Islam is.

Let’s recap the Obama Administration and it’s “Muslims are just misunderstood Care Bears” philosophy towards terrorism and “The Religion of Peace”:

* Religion of Peace adherent is promoted by PC-police in US military, then seizes opportunity to murder fellow soldiers at Ft. Hood, in the name of Allah.

* Religion of Peace agent tries to bring down Delta Copenhagen-Detroit flight on Christmas Day, with exploding underpants.

* Religion of Peace operatives known as “The Flying Imams” disrupt Atlanta-Houston flight before takeoff, but are removed by authorities and Obama Administration does its best to cover it up.

* Religion of Peace minion, and Quatari diplomat, jokes about bringing down the plane while lighting his shoe in the bathroom of a flight out of Reagan National.

“Hope” and “Luck” are not strategies.

For whatever reason, the stars aligned and the Fates conspired — and God and the angels all did their part — to keep America relatively safe from The Religion of Peace since Obama took office, with only one deadly attack and several near-misses.

But, our luck can’t hold out forever.

When we have a president who thinks Muslims are misunderstood Care Bears and our Homeland Security Secretary believes “the system works just fine”, all of us need to be very concerned about the day our collective luck finally runs out.

The Obumunists want us to suffer massive death & destruction so they can have a crisis to transform the US to a despotism with Obozo as the Great Leader.

May 4, 2010 at 12:47 am

Thank God they grabbed this tentacle. It was maddening to watch the Obama sycophants in the media, with the help of Mary Bloomberg, try to push as mightily as they could that this was most likely a screwy raaaacist white man who was angry about healthcare. How true your words, “our luck can’t hold out forever.”

May 4, 2010 at 2:23 am

The Religion of Peace seems to be probing for weakness like Obama wishes to probe that little singing Beiber.

They hit us again under this weak sister’s watch, and this administration, the Socialist-Dems and Islam will suffer the terrible wrath of the heretofore incredibly forgiving American people.

The insanity continues.
A wise man once said – If you can’t identify the problem, you can’t find the solution. Once again, our radical president shows that he is incapable problem solving and unable to break free from his Alinsky-Ayers-Wright-ACORN foundation.
And, once again, he puts America at risk.

The radical Obama Administration will soon release their first National Security Strategy (NSS) Report. The report will make clear that the US in not in a “War on Terror” and that Islamists are not the root of terror.
Abraham D. Sofaer at DoD Buzz reported, via Free Republic:

The Obama Administration will soon issue its first National Security Strategy (“NSS”). How will it compare with those issued in 2002 and 2006 by the Bush Administration?

The most fundamental US national security objectives are well established and bipartisan. The highest priority is always to keep America and its allies safe. This requires maintaining a strong military capacity; effective alliances; and policies that enhance economic and social well being at home and abroad. We encourage the spread of freedom, democracy, and the rule of law throughout the world. We strive to defeat terrorism and to stop the spread of WMD.

The Obama team will reconfirm all these objectives, but in different terms than those used by the Bush Administration.

“Leader” not Hegemon. The 2002 Bush NSS proclaimed America’s “unparalleled” power, eager to use alliances but able if required to act alone. Obama’s NSS will promise America shall remain strong, but describe its role as “leader” of like-minded states and incapable of ensuring even its own security without the help of others.

No more “War” on terror. The Bush strategy statements proclaim that the US is in a worldwide “war” against terror. The Obama NSS will avoid using the “war” word, pleasing those who believe terrorism should be treated as criminal activity. But it will call for “defeating terrorism” worldwide.

Dropping the “Preventive Force” Doctrine. The most notorious aspect of the Bush strategy was the view that attacks of terrorist groups cannot be deterred and must be prevented, through force if necessary, and soon enough to stop threats before they are realized. The Obama NSS will drop this declaration and stress the need to prevent attacks through diplomacy and preparation. But it will continue to use force preventively when necessary to kill known enemies.

Adopting a “Multilateralist” Tone. The Bush strategy promised to act through existing multilateral institutions, including the UN, when possible; but it stressed its willingness to “act alone” if required. Obama’s strategy will emphasize the importance of acting through the UN and alliances. But it will preserve the right to act alone, as NATO does, by affirming that the Security Council has “primary” (though not exclusive) responsibility for international security.

“Islamic Fundamentalists” become “Violent Extremists.” The Bush Administration described the current terrorist threat as having been caused by Islamic Fundamentalists, while crediting Islam as one of the world’s great religions. Obama will describe all terrorists as “violent extremists,” or with some such religiously neutral phrase. But his targeted killings have all been of Muslims.
