The big Texas secret is that we bring in ‘lawmakers’ once every two years for a limited time and then send them home instead of letting them set around Austin dreaming up new laws and regulations... Important limited agenda sessions can be called by the Governor...

I live about twenty miles from Fort Hood that is a storehouse for a lot of the big guns but it would be nice to have a source for parts...

If you qualify with a pistol (semi-auto), you do not have to qualify with a revolver. If you qualify with a revolver, then you are restricted to revolvers and must qualify with a pistol to remove the restriction.

I am a very active Cabela’s customer because I just like the company... It is a old time American success story starting off as a small mail order “fly fishing” operation. The customer service is outstanding and the employees seem to be knowledgeable about their products.

the prices are a little on the high side but the quality is usually very good and the variety is amazing.

I use the online ‘store’ as much as I do the brick front since the nearest one is seventy miles away. I probably receive a two foot pile of catalogs each year...

We were in Austin recently for a funeral and dropped on down to Buda to visit the store...

I went in to purchase several items in the gun category and left with my still empty credit card and no purchases since the items were ‘out of stock’. I was ready to spend several thousand dollars if they could produce the items. The first quarter results would have been much higher if the supply chain was not empty.

I might add that I boycott Austin retailers since the city boycotted Arizona several years back; thank goodness Buda is just south of the Austin City limits...

I imagine that the major use of GE Credit by gun dealers was to floor-plan stock... BIG DEAL!!! There isn’t any stock to floor plan and if they get a delivery, the stock is sold before the UPS truck pulls out of the drive.

This Freeper has upped to a NRA Endowment member, joined Gun Owners of America and The Texas State Rifle Association as a life member and donated to the NRA-ILA (the NRA PAC). I have also brought in, at my expense, four other NRA members.

I have also bought dangerous weapons for grand kids, Ruger 10/22’s that look a lot like the dreaded AR-15, complete with 25 round magazines (BX-25)and adjustable stocks. I also bought them tickets to Appleseed’s to teach them how to use the guns.

BTW, I regularly contribute to the Free Republic funds and was an early supporter of Ted Cruz with donations to his campaigns...

I am on a fixed income retirement that means if I spend on one thing I skip something else.

Orphaned at the age of fourteen and widowed at twenty-four, Jane Wilkinson Long led a long and hard life. But her independent and determined character earned for her the title “Mother of Texas.”

Long was born Jane Wilkinson on July 23, 1798 in Charles County, Maryland. Her father died when she was less that one year old. In 1811, she moved with her mother to Mississippi Territory. When her mother died the following year, Jane went to live with her older sister near Natchez.

In early 1815, Jane met James Long, a physician who had come to Natchez following his participation as a surgeon at the Battle of New Orleans. By May of that year they were married and by November of the following year the couple had their first child.

By 1820, Jane had joined her husband at Bolivar Point, a peninsula opposite Galveston Island, where they established an outpost in an effort to help free Texas from Spanish rule. When James Long left Bolivar Point on an excursion in September of 1821, Jane was expecting another child. She stayed behind and vowed to remain at the fort until his return. The plan failed, however, when James was and captured and later “accidentally” killed in Mexico City.

Unaware of her husband’s fate, Jane steadfastly remained at Bolivar Point through the winter of 1821-1822. The few other inhabitants left the fort as supplies ran out. Along with a twelve year old servant and her six year old daugthter, Jane stubbornly survived on dwindling supplies of corn meal, salted fish and osyters scavanged from the bay. As Jane later reported, the trio kept nearby Indians at a safe distance by a ruse designed to give the illusion that the fort was still protected by soldiers. On December 21 in an ice covered tent, Jane gave birth to Mary James Long.

Jane’s ordeal ended the following March when a friend of her husband persuaded her to leave Bolivar Point. And after a few years, she began a remarkable comeback.

By 1832, Long opened a successful hotel in Brazoria, then a primary port for newly arriving emigrants. The hotel soon became a focal point for social and political activities in Texas. In 1835 when Stephen Austin returned from eighteen months of imprisonment in Mexico, a dinner and ball was held at her hotel in his honor.

Throughout her long and active life in Texas, Jane became the object of many admirers and some would-be suitors. These included no less notable Texans than Ben Milam, William Travis, Stephen Austin, Sam Houston and Mirabeau Lamar. She rejected all offers of matrimony, however, and died a widow of James Long on December 30, 1880.

Jane Long is buried at Richmond, Texas. On her gravestone is inscribed “Mrs. Jane H. Long, The Mother of Texas.”

Midway USA is a BIG supporter of the NRA and thus by implication, the 2nd amendment. their ‘round-up’ program adds many dollars to the NRA coffers every year...

Midway is my first choice among the online vendors with Cabela’s close behind. AFAIK Cabela’s is retail and thus not a major supplier to government agencies.

We need Ruger, Colt,S&W and Remington to add their instruments to the bandwagon at least as far as direct sells to the gun grabbers...

I also make two donations a year to FR for $50.00 each; this is what I used to spend on a subscription to the local sports-paper. I could care less if another football is ever kicked in Texas and that is what 80% of the local news was/is.

I personally do not consider Ann Coulter attractive... Skinny body, long necked, boney legs, unattractive face... I concede she has nice hair but it is used to cover up the other unattractive parts.

I have been a NRA member for several years, upgraded to Life Member last year and to Endowment member this year.

I edited my profile and I receive NO notifications or solicitations except those that I chose.

The upgrades in membership were done strictly by my choice without any coercion from the NRA.

I have also joined other 2nd amendment groups as well and my phone is not ringing and no SPAM.
