DARBY, Pa. – A doctor who was grazed by gunfire from a patient in his office at a suburban hospital on Thursday helped stop him by apparently returning fire with his own weapon and severely injuring him, but not before a caseworker was killed, authorities said. The patient opened fire after entering the office with the caseworker, District Attorney Jack Whelan said. Witnesses reported hearing yelling before the gunshots. Several hours after the shooting, investigators had only limited information on what happened inside the closed office but believe the doctor, a psychiatrist, "from all accounts, would have acted in self-defense,"...

Perhaps sensing a leadership vacuum with Mayor de Blasio enjoying la dolce vita overseas, former Mayor Bloomberg is back in the news. With an international message: He's traveling to Israel to blast the FAA's decision to ban flights to Israel. Earlier today, the FAA announced that flights to and from Tel Aviv would be prohibited for up to 24 hours after reports of a rocket strike landing about a mile from Ben Gurion this morning. Which prompted Bloomberg to plan a trip. He wrote on his website: This evening I will be flying on El Al to Tel Aviv to...

And Tom Greer has no...

Trust me, I triple checked that I wasn’t reading The Onion when I saw this article come across my Facebook timeline. First off, besides the content of the article (which we’ll get to), I can almost write an entire article on the image that was included with the post. The image is of a bunch of toy model guns, including a “Pulse Rifle”, you know a completely science fiction based firearm that doesn’t exist, even a little bit. The image is accompanied by a caption that reads “These guns can be purchased anywhere in Georgia and carried into a church,...

Killing people is a brutal and messy business and if Americans can't deal with that, they shouldn't be condemning people to death, a top federal judge says. In a strongly worded dissent in an Arizona lethal-injection case, Alex Kozinski, chief judge of the Ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals, calls the current system "inherently flawed" and says states that want to execute inmates should return to more "primitive—and foolproof—methods" of execution, NBC reports. "The guillotine is probably best but seems inconsistent with our national ethos. And the electric chair, hanging and the gas chamber are each subject to occasional mishaps,"...

For the first time this entire election cycle The New York Times Senate forecast at The Upshot predicts Udall has a greater chance of losing reelection than winning (53%-47%). This is a huge deal, as The Upshot tries to go beyond just the polls and factor in other intangibles about a race, such as, incumbency, fundraising, a state’s past election history among others, who the liberals at the NYT want to win. All those factors in The Upshot model lean heavily Udall’s way. Yet, despite this inherent, built-in advantage, Udall can’t overcome one thing: the people of Colorado feel he...

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A man was stabbed at a Lynx bus stop Wednesday morning, and a passerby held the alleged attacker at gunpoint for deputies, according to Orange County sheriff’s investigators. Investigators said Donald Sacco was stabbed several times at the bus stop on Orange Avenue near Sixth Street in the Taft area. “I (saw) two men get off the bus. One got off faster than the other one,” said witness Si Macon. “I looked out the window, and I (saw) one started to stab up the other dude.” Mason recorded video on his cellphone that showed another man,...

When I'm in a, shall we say, mellow mood with friends, I can occasionally launch into accounts of politics in seventeenth-century England. This usually results in incredulous stares, followed by, "Oh, so sorry. Fascinating story, I'm sure. But it's really just hours past my bedtime." It's a shame anybody should feel that way, though. Because even in the hands of a dreary lecturer and deadly bore (um, not saying I am one), the story of seventeenth-century England is one of riotously awful chaos -- and the birth of modern freedom. Sit down. Have another drink. Let's talk about it.

Shamiya Adams was sitting on a bedroom floor in her best friend's home, making s'mores after an evening of practicing a dance routine, when the shot ripped through the house in Garfield Park. The bullet crashed through the wall of the bedroom and struck the 11-year-old in the head. She was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, where family kept an overnight vigil until the girl was pronounced dead at 7:33 a.m. today. [Snip] The victims told police they were approached by someone they didn't know, who fired shots at them. In other shootings:

Several years ago, we had a burglary and guns were stolen from our house. About a year ago, one of them turned up on a thug, who was reaching for it in his waistband and subsequently was tasered by the police before he was able to use it one them. In the end, the gun helped to put him away, but even with priors (including a shooting about 10 years back) he only received a sentence of 3 ½ to 7 years from our pathetic “justice” system. Fast forward to the present. I was informed that I could get my...

On Wednesday—a day before the Malaysian airliner was shot down—President Obama quietly signed an executive order targeting Russian oil, natural gas, finance and defense companies. Hidden in the details, was a section that effectively bans AK-47s. As always, the devil is in the details, so read on for the straight scoop. While signing an executive order to impose new sanctions on Russia, President Obama used his pen to also further his agenda of gun control by including a ban of parts used to build or repair Russian AK-47s. That is the headline and certainly bad news for the gun community....

All companies we boycott have received a 2ACheck rating of “F” for their lack of respect for the rights of gun owners. Your experience with some of these companies will vary based on location, however, the boycott is based on the corporate policy toward responsible gun owners. We believe guns in the hands of good people make everyone safer. We encourage freedom loving Americans to boycott anti-gun companies until they improve their policy. Please share this page. We also strongly recommend everyone know the firearms laws applicable in their own state, and states they travel through. We recommend the Traveler’s...

A Philadelphia mother of two is facing three years in prison after she mistakenly entered New Jersey, where she was stopped for a traffic violation and found in possession of a handgun loaded with hollow-point bullets. Shaneen Allen, 27, was pulled over in New Jersey’s Atlantic County after making an unsafe lane change in the early morning hours of Oct. 1. Allen then told the officer that she had the .380 Bersa Thunder handgun, as well as a concealed carry permit for Pennsylvania, unaware that her permit was not transferable to The Garden State. “The gun charge was not proper...

In response to Russia’s aggressive actions in Ukraine, the U.S. government has issued a number of new sanctions against Russian companies. Among the companies targeted is Kalashnikov Concern, the arms manufacturing company that makes AK-47s. Under the new sanctions, Americans who own a Kalashnikov Concern product, like an AK-47, that was “bought and fully paid for prior to the date of designation (i.e., no payment remains due to Kalashnikov Concern), then that product is not blocked and OFAC sanctions would not prohibit the U.S. person from keeping or selling the product in the secondary market, so long as Kalashnikov Concern...

I went to the shooting range last night for the first time in about 2 years. Lot's of fun, and I have to admit, I did pretty well for being so out of practice. But talking with some folks, I heard something that I had not heard before, but they all agreed it was true. I'd like to know if anyone can cite a source for this, as I'd like to use it in a conversation with my sister, who is opposed to gun ownership. What I heard was that the U.S. has the 3rd highest rate of murder by...

At least 50 people carting weapons, flags and posters expressing anger with the porous border took to Vassar, Mich., streets to rally against a plan to ship some of the illegal minor-aged immigrants to their community. Many in the crowd carried AR-15 rifles and handguns — the latest sign of the growing unrest around the nation that’s marking the federal government’s response to tens of thousands of illegals crossing into U.S. territories in recent months. They also carted “Don’t Tread on Me” flags and a “Second Amendment Revolution” flag, a design that includes the basic Betsy Ross pattern with the...

Me scared Bar none. Go ahead, I dare you to read it and not thump your head against the nearest wall. It starts badly enough: Contrary to what those who defend the right to own high-powered assault rifles believe, not all guns are created equal. Due to a combination of availability, portability and criminal usage the following five types of guns are the country’s most dangerous. And then gets worse. The link takes you to the instantly infamous piece in Rolling Stone by some poor lassie named Kristen Gwynne entitled, “The Five Most Dangerous Guns in America.†Now, most...

No need to pick up the latest issue of Rolling Stone to learn which are “the 5 most dangerous guns in America;” National Review’s Charles C. W. Cooke has recompiled the exhaustive list at NRO. Drum roll, please. 1.Pistols 2.Revolvers 3. Rifles 4. Shotguns 5. Derringers Rolling Stone based its ratings on “a combination of availability, portability and criminal usage.” Some, however, question the expertise of Rolling Stone when it comes to deadly weapons. Professional marksman “Top Shot” Chris Cheng, for example, retweeted this alternative list of dangerous knives.
