Obama amputates our nuclear arms

Under President Obama’s new policy, however, if the state that has just attacked us with biological or chemical weapons is “in compliance with the Non-Proliferation Treaty,” explained Gates, then “the U.S. pledges not to use or threaten to use nuclear weapons against it.”

Imagine the scenario: Hundreds of thousands are lying dead in the streets of Boston after a massive anthrax or nerve gas attack. The president immediately calls in the lawyers to determine whether the attacking state is in compliance with the NPT. If it turns out that the attacker is up-to-date with its latest IAEA inspections, well, it gets immunity from nuclear retaliation. (Our response is then restricted to bullets, bombs and other conventional munitions.)

However, if the lawyers tell the president that the attacking state is NPT noncompliant, we are free to blow the bastards to nuclear kingdom come.

This is quite insane. It’s like saying that if a terrorist deliberately uses his car to mow down a hundred people waiting at a bus stop, the decision as to whether he gets hanged or 100 hours of community service hinges entirely on whether his car had passed emissions inspections.

Apart from being morally bizarre, the Obama policy is strategically loopy. Does anyone believe that North Korea or Iran will be more persuaded to abjure nuclear weapons because they could then carry out a biological or chemical attack on the United States without fear of nuclear retaliation?

The naivete is stunning.

And thus becoming the hero for them as opposed to his failing popularity in the USA (despite a likely short term bump getting Bin Laden) and counting on their support to get him re-elected - with money and votes as they did last time.

Getting Binny & choosing to publicize it, when he did (timing), despite the ever-changing storyline & game-playing, was a plus for Obama. It brought *closure* to an official, long overdue quest. Will getting Binny be a long term advantage for Obama or not (votes & re-election) will depend on related effective PR from now on... just as it'll depend on popular, alternative political contenders, whose popularity can be sustained in the eyes of American voters.

IMO, Obama (or any alternative to him), will not simply win another 4 yr term based on terrorism, or foreign policy alone. The decider, largely, will be successfully addressing contentious & important domestic issues in the U.S. - that's my current take on the situation.

GOOGLE at it again!

The complete Google Blogger site was “read only” for most of yesterday for “maintenance” and now that it came back the two articles that were linked in #211 above have DISAPPEARED and no longer exist!!

Censorship by Google (or a pro-Islamic Iran/pro-Obambi techie inside Google) raises its ugly head again.

However the brief commentary at the #211 post explains what was scrubbed.

Reference to Post #211 which was scrubbed by Google.

In response to Alan’s protest to two articles with the links in #211 they have RESTORED the two articles!!

The #211 links now work and Google management has shown responsibility toward the right to free speech and opinion.

Kudos, Google. (It must have been human error).
