Under President Obama’s new policy, however, if the state that has just attacked us with biological or chemical weapons is “in compliance with the Non-Proliferation Treaty,” explained Gates, then “the U.S. pledges not to use or threaten to use nuclear weapons against it.”
Imagine the scenario: Hundreds of thousands are lying dead in the streets of Boston after a massive anthrax or nerve gas attack. The president immediately calls in the lawyers to determine whether the attacking state is in compliance with the NPT. If it turns out that the attacker is up-to-date with its latest IAEA inspections, well, it gets immunity from nuclear retaliation. (Our response is then restricted to bullets, bombs and other conventional munitions.)
However, if the lawyers tell the president that the attacking state is NPT noncompliant, we are free to blow the bastards to nuclear kingdom come.
This is quite insane. It’s like saying that if a terrorist deliberately uses his car to mow down a hundred people waiting at a bus stop, the decision as to whether he gets hanged or 100 hours of community service hinges entirely on whether his car had passed emissions inspections.
Apart from being morally bizarre, the Obama policy is strategically loopy. Does anyone believe that North Korea or Iran will be more persuaded to abjure nuclear weapons because they could then carry out a biological or chemical attack on the United States without fear of nuclear retaliation?
The naivete is stunning.

Has anybody connected the dots between the recent assassination of the Iranian student scientist (the second to die of three scientists attacked) linked to nuclear weapons development and the sudden willingness of Iran to release the remaining two American hikers, who have been in prison for two years now?
Also: do you not get the shivers that the equally shared Democrat/Republican membership of the commission on spending cuts - if equally divided on a spending cut - would DEFAULT to the TREASURY (DEMOCRAT Geithner) deciding whom to cut and whom to pay? So the fall back for Democrats not agreeing is to pass the decision to THEIR man!
Even if Geithner resigns and fades into the sunset, Obama will put his own man into the position and so retains decision power so the Commission is a mockery and a farce (Not spelled FARS -smile) favoring the Dems. They have to say no to get what the want.
The devil is in the still unclear final details of a deal filled with similar landmines. I hope someone on the Republican side is paying attention to this.
IMHO Without exact knowledge of details, we are giving Obama the two most important concesskions. No renewed vote on the debt ceilng before the 2012 elections to interfere with his campaigning AND payment decisions - in reality - going SOLELY to him (or his). Disaster in the making.
We might need to remind our Republican Senators of this point and Congressmen that this would not be a victory.
Obama goes to a primary school to talk to the kids to get a little PR. After his talk he offers question time. One little boy puts up his hand and Obama asks him his name.
“Stanley,” responds the little boy.
“And what is your question, Stanley?”
“I have 4 questions:
First, why did the USA Bomb Libya without the support of the Congress?
Second, why are you President when John McCain got more votes?
Third, whatever happened to all of the jobs you were going to create?”
Fourth, why don’t you enforce our current immigration laws?
Just then, the bell rings for recess. Obama informs the kiddies that they will continue after recess.
When they resume Obama says, “OK, where were we? Oh, that’s right: question time. Who has a question?”

“Steve,” he responds.

Before being Obambombed, Egypt was one of the most decent countries where they blamed the sinner - not his family.
A prime example of this was phony Palestinian, born in Egypt, Yasser Arafart, exiled after trying to overthrow the government some decades ago, had his wife and child granted “protected status” inside Egypt, with 24/7 government provided body guards.
Now with Obama’s buddies taking charge, they will not allow the prior civilized mindset to remain and fall to the lowest of brutal Islamic attitudes and allow a WOMAN to visit her husband's grave-site.
As much as I’d like to blame things on Obama (and he is to blame for so much) I’m not sure that the situation in Egypt can be pinned on him. Egypt was going to go up, eventually.
It turns out that the much derrided G.W. Bush was more right than people gave him credit for when he said, to paraphrase “all people share a longing in their hearts for freedom”.
I think most of the people initially protesting were sincerely seeking an end to a government they viewed as oppressive. Yes, Mubarak may have been a good friend to the USA, and nice to the families of the Arab ruling elite, but lets face it he was a brutal dictator to his own people.
I’m pretty sure if America had been ruled by one man for 30 years most of the people on Free Republic would not be singing his praises for whatever good deeds he had done lately.
Now, of course that doesn’t mean those seeking freedom will get what they wanted, or that the new boss won’t be worse than the old boss. Revolutions are messy affairs and often end up in tragedy. The Egyptian youth may even come to look back fondly on Mubarak’s time as a golden age, as many Iranians supposedly look back on the Shah.
Obama looked disengaged, confused, incompetent, and amaturish during the Egypt frackus. He didn’t look like the referee, man behind the plan, shot-caller, or steady hand.
Obama is barely relevant in American politics, consider how much less so he is in Egypt. The best thing that Obama could have done was to offer asylum to Mubarak and his family in the USA, so he could get his medical care. That would have been a magnanimous humanitarian gesture that sent the message that the USA does not forget its friends in their time of trouble.
What he probably could not have done is stopped the ouster of Mubarak once it started, that was up to the Egyptian military, and they apparently decided not to “go Syria” on the people of Egypt.
Obama’s blame comes from his almost fanatical support of the Moslem Brotherhood and Islamic efforts to impose a global Caliphate, which thus encouraged and launched earlier than needed, the events in Tunis, Egypt and the Libyan policy wbhich he has admitted on video was to link the Brotherhood political power in one big swathe.
Without this kind of support - requiring a removal of the leadership of Moslem but secular administrations - the reach for the freedoms you descrive might have eventually come about for teh reasons you give but not in one blundering, destructive setof “explosions” in such a sensitive region.
Noting how Obama has avoided support for suppressed Iranians, mass killings in Syria by IRANIAN led forces, even to the point of turning Saudi Arabia against him.
His ideology, like Jimmy Carter’s is not tempered with experience of dealing with anything beyond thuggish Chicago style neighborhood bullying.

What was the *exact* reason for not allowing Empress Farah to visit her late husband’s grave site? Because she is a woman, or?
If it is because of IRI’s influence via Moslem Brotherhood (a member of MB or its offshoot assassinated Anwar Sadat too?), I fear they may eventually even attack, vandalise and/or destroy the late Shah’s grave-site. Consider why the late Shah wasn’t permitted to be buried in Iran. BTW, where is Reza Shah (the late Shah’s father) buried now?
We already know that these IRI & MB types don’t even respect the dead. Unless the dead person is some murderer such as Khomeini or others belonging to the IRI. In which case, they build a grand shrine to them.
In their case, many of them share a longing in their hearts to freely exercise their unequalled thuggish behaviour under the banner of Issslam. That's why Islam has been "the religion of peace" since its inception.

While riding down along the border this morning,
I saw a Muslim extremist fall into the Rio Grande River.
He was struggling to stay afloat because of all the guns and bombs he was carrying.
Along with him was a Mexican who was also struggling to stay afloat because of the large backpack of drugs that was strapped to his back. If they didn’t get help, they’d surely drown.
Being a responsible Texan and abiding by the law to help those in distress, I informed the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security.
It is now 4 pm, both have drowned, and neither authority has responded.

Eventually, it was Little Johnny’s turn. The teacher held her breath .....
Little Johnny walked to the front of the classroom and dumped a box full of

Toothbrushes” said Little Johnny.
“Toothbrushes” echoed the teacher, “How could you possibly sell enough
tooth brushes to make that much money?”

They all said the same thing, “Hey, this tastes like dog crap!”
Then I would say, “It is dog crap. Wanna buy a toothbrush? I used the
President Obama method of giving you something shitty, dressing it up so it
looks good, telling you it’s free, and then making you pay to get the bad
taste out of your mouth.”
