The CBS FraudGate episode once again has proven how important FR is to the conservative cause. Although blogs are taking credit for it, all here know the investigation was started on the Forum before the CBS program had ended, most of the blogs were merely picking up on the information posted here.
Free Republic has always been supported by it's fans and readers. It takes no advertising, has no sugar daddies and is beholden to no one. Jim has always stated he will keep this thing going as long as the participants believe it is worthwhile. To pay the bills, a fine group of people run a quarterly "FReepathon". They can run up to several weeks, divert our attention and are labor intensive.
You can help put FR on a solid financial basis by signing up as monthly donor. Whether you are new participant, have never supported FR or have regularly contributed quarterly, please consider becoming a "monthly". Five or ten dollars a month via credit card can be a painless way to insure the long term health of this site. Don't you thnk Free Republic is worth it?
All FR needs is about 500-700 more people donating $10 /month and FReepathons are a thing of the past!

The Blogoshpere Never Sleeps Without the Blogosphere, the story would have remained on FR. It is the distributive nature of the blogs and the deep links and the mirrored sites that lets these stories now take off like wildfire.
The echoes of the big Internet bang which annihilated a
60 Minutes story in under
12 hours are still resounding. The key riffs apparently started at
Powerline and as
Samizdata notes, the distributed intelligence of the Internet took over. Under the scrutiny of thousands of analysts, the CBS story began to melt down.

Curiouser and curiouser--- by the second!I hope this will prove to be a real eye-opener for citizens-- the MSM has been in the spin-cycle business for decades, but without an alternate voice, there was no way to catch them at it and then inform people.

We have an emergency of sorts here.
I have sent way to many emails to CBS news.
SOMEONE needs to send an email that will reach the CEO of this company ASAP as Dan Rather is going to feature this story tonight (he is apparently feeling good about the attention it receives, going to capitalize on it, going to say it was authenicated, that the superscript was available back then, going to defend it and is going to refuse his state his so called 'unimpeachable sources'.
We need to take the BLOOM OFF THIS LILY!
We need to flood the CEO and Dan with the rest of the items found corrupted in these memos. And we need to let him know before his ugly mug goes on the TV tonight that WE ARE WATCHING.
I am serious. Dan is loving this. Or he would not be going to go on the air and defend it...he feels invincible, and able to LIE with the FREEDOM of the UNTOUCHABLE.
No way can we let this fly....if HIS BOSSES know more....then DAN WILL HAVE TO RESPOND.
It would NOT HURT to mention sponsors either.

CBS is trying to "center" on the th issue. The best summary of the forgery I've seen is the graphic on another thread that animated the scanned original and a MS Word reproduction. They are not visually distinguishable. Sorry, can't remember the thread - been too many today. Maybe someone can post it here. In my opinion, it needs to be posted in every thread dealing with this story.
