I know how much we all want to support our side. I know that many of us are looking for something good in what happened tonight. Sadly, an honest assessment will result in a single conclusion, that tonight the Republican Senate failed the nation, in order to protect themselves from having to take a vote that would determine the future Presidential ambitions of some Senators.
Do not blame the 12 moderates, because we already knew that they could not be trusted. Do not blame the President, and tonight, you cannot even blame the Democrats. Their side did their job, which was to win. Our side did not. I am not posting this to bash the Republican Party, I am posting this, because I already see some of us looking for the silver lining in this turd. Do not do that. Face the reality of the situation, which is that Senators care about Senators. Bill Frist had ample opportunity to change Senate rules prior to the formation of the 109th Congress. He also had ample opportunity to pull the trigger weeks, even months ago. He did not, which is why I said in an earlier post, that would not vote for Frist for President no matter the outcome of events.
Unfortunatly, we have no recourse. We cannot give up the Senate in an attempt to punish the Senate Republicans. We cannot afford to cut off our noses to spite our faces. But the time will come, where we will have a chance to make our voices heard. Not tonight, not 2006 but maybe by 2008 we will have the voice, the organization, and the attention of enough minds to truly punish the Senate for what they did tonight.
Keep your powder dry, and wait for these folks to come into range. Save your ammo for now. But one day, we will make them pay.
And
Did they need to? They got Ruth Bader Ginsberg, the ACLU's General Counsel and member of the ACLU Board of Directors, approved didn't they? She's far further to the left than any of Bush's nominees have been to the right by a long shot, but the Republicans tucked their tail and rolled over for her.
Why did you say that to PD?
Terri-itis maybe? Perhaps RD thinks PD is a member of 'The Death Cult'. That's the only reason I could come up with that made sense because it didn't make sense. :o)
Yes indeed! One of my very own Senators, I'm ashamed to say tonight, is Mike Dewine. RINO Senator from Ohio. He is seeking his third term in 2006 and I think its time he goes home and gives his seat to a real Republican.
The other RINO Senator from Ohio, Voinovich, you may recall as the one who postponed the vote for John Bolton and then sent it to Congress without recommendation.
I beleive it was Hildy who asked if people will remember this in 2008? I think we will remember it long after that, and I'm positive I will.
I was serious. Looked like either a pending stroke or a migraine.
That's funny! All that a-huffin' and a-puffin' and then you say "but I'm still going to keep supporting them anyway!"
So why the F would they give a damn about you and your objections tonight? By '08 nobody will remember a damn thing about this, and all today's weasels will be on their way to reelection (by people who say "we cannot give up the Senate") or a cushy, voluntary retirement.
The same sh#%bags will stay in power forever unless and until people rise up and slaughter their asses now. You don't keep weasels around, no matter what.
That being said, my prediction is that the same sh#$bags will stay in power, because most people are stupid. Simple as that.
Because the MSM's definition of "moderate" is exemplified by Robert Byrd.
Dance with the Devil and the Devil doesn't change. -You do.
"Hail Hillary. If were gonna be ruled by 'Rats why not just drop the other shoe."
No. Fight to the last brain cell, buddy.
If he had only made the RATS actually deliver speeches standing up and really filibuster, he would have been a hero. For the life of me I dont know why he hadnt gone this route.
I trust that your mean, "...opponents in the primaries."
Right?
"What we need is someone that can lead - a leader."
It is amazing how weak the Senators mostly are. I heard Orrin Hatch on Hannity---he's not weak.
I assume that an (unstated) premise of the agreement is that the 7 "Republicans" have agreed NOT to vote for removing the right to filibuster. Why else would the Dems go for it? Just to save face?
That's how betrayal happens. In secret. In the dark.
I've thought about it, and I don't care if Hillary becomes President in 2008, because -- as we have seen -- it makes no damned difference which "party" holds the top spot: the elites on both sides of the aisle are indistinguishable in terms of the end result. Oh, there might be a "conservative" law passed here, or a "liberal" law passed there, but in the end it's the same old status quo ante. Does anyone really think that President Al Gore would have just sat around and done nothing after September 11? Of course not. If Gore had been elected, we'd still be fighting the Islamofascists -- maybe not in the same way as W does it, but fighting them just the same, because our national survival is at stake. The same goes the other way around: our "conservative" Congress fell all over itself to give the seniors a nice, juicy liberal prescription drug plan, just as they would have if Gore had been elected. Conclusion: no matter which "party" one votes for, in the end it's the same old bastards kowtowing to the same old interest groups to get their votes.
I'm a monarchist. I think (and history shows) that popular government is a fatally flawed idea. Therefore, it makes little difference to my life if the "Red" team of bastards beats the "Blue" team -- they're all bastards just the same. None of our nation's real problems (borders, tax/spending, health care, national security, etc.) are going to be solved under the current political system because it is going to take radical action to solve these problems, and our form of government is designed to prevent radical action from being taken. The Constitution was constructed the way it is for that very reason. Therefore, the only way any real action can ever take place is outside of a Constitutional framework -- and no patriotic American wants to even think of that happening. I certainly don't. I like my nice, comfortable life, thank you very much.
Therefore, it's obvious to me that no matter which "party" is running the government come January 2009, the whole creaking inefficient mess will continue to groan along pretty much as it has for the past 215 years -- that is, well enough, but not very well.
Unless something drastic happens before then and changes everything. (God forbid, of course.)
"Frankly, I give up."
Good idea. If you are as weak as this post indicates, you should give up.
It's an ongoing process. This is actually still part of it, but unfortunatly it has almost run it's race.
Are you mentally retarded?
McQueeg strikes again. That this little napoleon thinks he is presidential timber is hysterical. In both senses of the word.
