People who want to keep assault weapons off the streets are divided over how best to extend the ban on those guns, which is set to expire two months before the 2004 elections.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., on Thursday intends to introduce an extension of the assault weapons ban that she helped enact in 1994. The Bush administration has announced its support for continuing the prohibition on military-style assault weapons.

I don't think it will be renewed, because it's not likely to ever reach George Shrubbery the III's desk. The Republicans will keep it in subcommittee and it will never reach the floor for a vote

Good, let it sunset.

The timing of the expiration of the bill is incredible, right before the 2004 election. This will put the bill front and center in a huge way.

And by then we may finally have a SCOTUS ruling on the 2nd Amd to push the arguement as well.

Thanks for the ping, Joe..

Incidentally, I have some info..FOX news this AM ran a short piece on Logan Int'l Airport in the Peoples Republic of MA.

It seems as if the police up there are getting MP5's and will be carrying them around the airport. (For the purposes of stopping terrorism).

If someone can locate a postable piece, it should be placed on here and bumped for the "Biggest Hypocracy of All Time".< sarcasm> See, I seem to recall somewhere, vaguely that MA had the strictest laws around regarding firearms (safety of course, for the chirrun), I wonder if H&K had to submit models for safety testing to the MA regime...Surely there just couldn't be a double standard??? </ sarcasm>

One wonders

I don't recommend it, they are a P.O.S.

Maybe so, but anything to tick off Feinstein. I currently live in Alaska but romance is making me move back to California (hopefully not for long...it'll be a stop-off to Nevada)

Got one. Got a KG-99 as well. Bought them mostly because they were being banned and I felt a need to own them for that reason.

You and I think alike...LOL

If you really want to tick of Feinstein pick up a new Romanian SAR-1 7.62X39mm for $279.00. Looks just like an AK-47. Be sure to get some standard 30 round banana magazines for it as the anti's and leftist soccermom knobheads can't seem to recognize an AK (Automatic Kalishnakov) style rifle without those curved magazines inserted.

Joe, I don't know if this will do you any good, but the following are some related story links I just emailed, but have not posted on this board:

Subject: RKBA Special--Feinstein to introduce "Assault Weapon Ban" renewal today.

If you need to explain the futility of this clinton gun grab, this movie illustrates how useless it has been by citing a report actually completed during the clinton administration on how the bill has done nothing to fight crime and has done much to harm gunowners.

Greg,

I dunno about MP5s, but here are a couple of pix of Boston troopies ditty-bopping around Logan International after the 9-11 hysteria:

Gee, I feel safer already.

... No! I absolutely will not vote for President Bush again if he alienates the law abiding gun owner.

... I am not alone on this. My family, co-workers and neighbors share the exact sentiment.

... RKBA is not about duck hunting folks.

... The intent of the Second Amendment is to protect the right to keep and bear arms by limiting the power of the government to interfere with said right, NOT to "grant" the right to the people. The right is already there.

Are you guys going to vote for Bush even though he will sign this?

It would be political suicide for anyone not to sign it. After what happened in Hollywood in '97, people are a little shaken up about assault weapons.

What about grenade launchers and RPG's? Should they be banned?

Representing the People of California Since 1992

She's only been there since 1992? Why does it seems like she's been in the Senate since the 60's?

How I would love to see her retired. Soon!

... AOW and DD are already banned, you'll need an ATF form 4 approved and a $200 tax stamp to buy them.
