President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

< This is what WILL happen in Los Angeles or San Francisco when the really BIG one hits... South Central LA is a tenderbox right now as it is because of tensions between blacks and hispanics and the Los Angeles Police Department. >

Yes. This is the practice run for CA.

There were lots of them roving the streets here last night. The police officers were busy flying by. I think we need to scatter them broadly so that we aren't overwhelming any one area.

Do you HONESTLY think this governor is going to accept responsibility for having the Gaurd shooting blacks?

I haven't heard a word about Justice Thomas. How about e-mailing FNC and having them ask around.

Which likely means he did evacuate when called to after the storm. If he were missing there would likely be a huge buzz about it right now.

BTW, I wonder how long it will take to reestablish the Appeals Court that was based in NOLA.

EAGLES UP!

FREEP the Congress, Senate and White House to start in earnest!

I'll start here.

I know many others are doing so already, too, and many more needed!

We'll have to agree to disagree. And I've already made the distinction between stealing food to stay alive and stealing non-life saving items.

How many hundreds of people are dying today because boats were shot at while they tried to get people off of roofs?

Some innocents will be shot. But hundreds of others will be saved.

And what do you think is going on with those gunshots we keep hearing about? Women and children are being raped and murdered. THis is a war zone and in a war zone, innocents get killed. But far more will be saved.

Yes, very good, just that the order is incorrect: "towels" should head the list (as survival is possible without the other items provided one doesn't panic).

Guiliani had 98% of his city to use in responding to a disaster that encompassed a couple of dozen city blocks, functioning city services, the vast majority of his population out of harm's way, and no - NO - crises involving simply maintaining living conditions for the vast majority of his citizens.

The comparison is profoundly stupid, and I really wish folks would stop making it.

Anyone questioning the Christian doctrine of the Fall need only tune in and watch anarchy in New Orleans.

Take a group of poverty stricken people, put them on the government dole, crowd them in public "housing", teach them for a few generations that they are no more than the result of blind chance and evolutionary determinism,
mere mammals, remove all external coercive restraints.

Then sit back and watch fallen man in the state of nature. This is New Orleans. It reveals the deep folly of "progressive" secular humanism.

"My gang-banger looters"? What does that mean?

You seem to be supporting looters, now many are armed & shooting @ EM workers.

Is that a racial remark?

NO......here in TX we have banger thieves in every color.

Your rescuers?

Where did I say *my* rescuers ???

I'm at my house in Ridgeland because I'm almost out of gas. I waited 3 hours at the Madison Texaco yesterday morning and they ran out before I got to the pumps. Then I waited about 2 hours yesterday afternoon at the Chevron on Highway 51 at Ridgeland Avenue, and they ran out of gas. I made it back to my house, and I've got to stay here until gas is readily available because I don't have enough to wait in line. I have very little food and am beginning to be a bit worried. I haven't heard anything about FEMA seizing all gas supplies.

Many cities have automatic shutoff systems - if nobody keeps hitting the deadman switch, the whole thing shuts down.

Max pressure on a levee occurs when all the water is on one side.

True, but when the normally dry side of a levee is soaked, the integrity of the levee will be compromised. If the river levees are breached we would have an endless supply of water pouring into New Orleans. Equilibrium would occur when the "bowl" is filled to river-level and starts running OUT...............
