President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

"This must be carefully sourced.."

BTW I saw some video of a bunch of males who were dressed in what looked like penal system issue clothing huddled together on a flooded piece of highway. Anyone know what happened with that situation?

Jackson talking about "looting" by the oil companies. Liberals want us to become dependent on cheap Venezuela oil to support the Commie government down there.

Did anyone else hear the nurse interviewed on Fox? From Charity Hosp.? Was she just making things up? About the snipers and looters? Was all of this stuff about gunshots and roaming armed gangs all just a rumor?

LOL! Actually I think local officials underestimated what they needed once they thought that NO had dodged the bullet, and also did not anticipate human nature of people left in town. As the FEMA director stated, he would have liked it if they had moved the troops in earlier. I think he was stating that they could not deliver what they were not asked for. Same situation in Mississippi, where looters took much from homes that survived early on. Hindsight might be to move in troops whenever a category four or five storm is approaching to protect homes that have been left by evacuees before and immediately after the storm hits.

I wonder.

If Tikrit, or Fallujah or an Najaf, on the other side of the frikkin' world, had descended into looting or anti-US government activities 92 hours ago, by daybreak the next day we would have had UAVs over the target, or certainly run a KH-11 satellite on it.

I guess people have to wait longer when the uprising is within our own borders and it is our own citizens being terrorized. /sarc

Monday? The hurricane blew all day Monday. FEMA had already brought supplies into the region on Sunday, but they thought everything was fine until late Monday evening when it was revealed the levee was leaking. So we had to use Tuesday and Wednesday to get the act together and thanks to no law and order FEMA couldn't move into position to start passing out supplies... so what, in that equation, could the President have done differently?

Looting abounds in New Orleans
http://www.billoreilly.com/show?action=viewTVShow&showID=433#3
Guest: Jeremy Olshan, New York Post & Lisa Carton, Fox News Radio

There has been rampant thievery in New Orleans, and New York Post reporter Jeremy Olshan was on hand as some residents went on a rampage. "I was far less concerned about the rising water level than the capability of the police to keep the place safe. You could feel it become scary, and it was clear the police had no control." Fox News Radio correspondent Lisa Carton also witnessed chaos. "It was mayhem. Police told us they were releasing prisoners from the local jails and they could not protect us. We saw people running in and out of stores and taking things." The Factor urged federal authorities to re-take the streets. "We hear there are gangs roving the streets with AK-47s because gun stores were looted, and we hear reports that police have been looting. We need to get the National Guard there to get things under control."
