I can think of only one good reason to vote for McCain, and that’s to keep Barack Obama, out of the White House. Even with that large incentive, McCain has lately been really pushing his luck. I might wind up voting for Bob Barr this November. There’s plenty of time left to consider all the angles.

“John, you are a flawed man. You are a bit old, a bit looney, and you have a notoriously bad temper. This perfectly qualifies you, in my humble opinion, to lead us for the next eight years. I WANT your trembling hand on the nuclear button.

Think about it.

We have Kim Jong IL, Chavez and Ahmadenijad all running around like lunatics, threatening America and threatening to plunge the world into nuclear Armageddon. We have Putin and the Chinese blustering and rattling their sabres at us. I want John McCain in the Oval Office and I want him to be really pissed off at all these other nut jobs around the planet.

John, once you are elected, I want you to go into the Oval Office and throw one of your perfect FITS. Jump up and down and throw something through a plate glass window. Rip the drapes down and foam at the mouth a bit. And I want the whole thing on camera so that Ahmadinejad can see it. I want ALL of these ‘world leaders’ to lay awake at night and to break out in a cold sweat every time they think of messing with the United States of America.

I want the nuclear button sitting right next to the alarm clock on your night stand. I want pictures of this to be sent to Iran, Russia, China, Venezuela, Cuba, Libya, Syria, Pakistan, and those other folks in sheets, the Saudis. “

“John McCain is not a Conservative.”

How do we know if John McCain is even a Republican?

Looking at the three boneheads I get the distinct feeling that the Democrats will win in 2008 regardless of who we vote for.

People are greatly exaggerating the the advantage of having McCain in the WH re: SCOTUS. No further move to a more conservative court until Republicans regain the Senate. It’s mostly defense until that happens.

Well said. Fear is a very bad place from which to elect a mentally shaky guy president.

“But he’s a loyal American who supports our military.”

Sure, he’s going to close Gitmo and do away with stern measures to get terorists to talk. HE IS A WUSS with a vile temper and not fit to be commander-in-chief. He’s a Democrat loving liberal who will destroy the Republican Party, turning it into liberal trash. I won’t help him do it by voting for him.

So I take it then you will be issuing apologies when McCain does nominate a strict constructionist?

Sure I would - I'd give just about anything for a fifth anti-Roe vote because of the lives it would save. I would say mea culpas publically for the next four years and would actively work for his re-election campaign in 2012.

That being said, my post 101 applies to you as well. The man who spearheaded the Gang of 14 nominating a judicial conservative? You are either deluded with wishful thinking, or being deliberately deceitful in an effort to elect your candidate.

The real question for you - if McCain is elected (which I don't believe will happen regardless of his opponent, BTW) and puts Warren Rudman in charge of SC nominations, resulting in a RINO deluxe nominee in an effort to "reach out" to the other side of the aisle - what will those of you who have shilled for him continuously have to say? :^)

This would be the same President Bush that McCain has attacked in the past? The same one whose tax cuts he voted against, time after time? The same one that he dissed over GITMO and waterboarding? The same one that he just spit on in New Orleans?

Atta boy, Bill! *high five*

When Babbitt was Governor, I could walk into his office and have one of his senior staff sit and talk to me. Not a brush off, not lip service, but a substantial discussion where my views were taken seriously. And there was always follow up. That is more than some of the Governors that I helped elect.

Don’t worry, there aren’t all that many of us strict-constructionists left...our lost votes will be made up for by liberals who can’t stand their choices and like McCain anyway. They, too, can look past the R behind his name.

“For the past few years or so Bob Barr has been on the payroll of the ACLU”

Dick Armey also has the same consulting arrangement with the ACLU. The ACLU is only 50% crazy. They also do some good work.

Come to think of it, John McCain is also 50% crazy! I like him about as well as the ACLU.

Those reasons don’t matter one whit. McCain is a liberal, a RINO who should have changed parties a long time ago.

What promises do we get from him that he won’t reneg on? None, I bet.

I called his National Campagin HQ today to find out where he stands on the Fairness Doctrine. THEY WOULDN’T GIVE ME AN ANSWER. The best I got was that he was all for free speech and dissenting voices. Well, gee whiz, if that were true would he still be condeming North Carolina Republicans to be, “Out of touch with reality?”

Are you talking about the same Gang of 14 that got Janice Brown and other fine conservatives seated on the bench?

What I have to say is whoever McCain puts on SCOTUS - and I mean whoever - is going to be better than the best possible pick from Clinton or Obama. Nevertheless I am confident McCain will make a fine pick(s).
