Growing Antarctic sea ice linked to damaged ozone 21 Apr 2009 15:57:10 GMT Source: Reuters * Ozone hole causes Antarctic sea ice to grow * Study helps resolve global warming puzzle By Alister Doyle, Environment Correspondent OSLO, April 21 (Reuters) - An expansion of sea ice around Antarctica is linked to a hole in the ozone layer high in the atmosphere, according to a study on Tuesday that helps clear up a mystery about global warming. The findings, by scientists at the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) and the U.S. space agency NASA, explain an apparent contradiction between a thaw of...

Now Ms. Meghan McCain is anything but a young Britney Spears type "air head" celebrity. She is a 24 year old, 2007 graduate of Columbia University. She has already written regularly for Newsweek Magazine and has been an active political blogger since her father, Senator John McCain, began running for his party´s 2008 nomination. She admits that she has only been a "real Republican for less than a year," and she is anything but a die-hard GOP conservative. She is a "moderate" that currently supports gay marriage, stem-cell research and in 2004, she voted for the Democrat, John Kerry. What...
  • Climate Change Is Friend and Foe to Ozone Layer

Climate change is bringing mixed news to the ozone layer. Thanks to increasing CO2 concentrations and shifting air currents, the mid-northern hemisphere, including the United States, Canada, and Europe, will likely see its ozone restored ahead of schedule, according to a new study. Meanwhile, areas throughout the tropics and the mid-southern hemisphere, such as Australia, New Zealand, and Peru, may experience a delay in their ozone recovery. Ozone is an important part of the upper atmosphere that protects both humans and ecosystems from harmful UV-B radiation. In the 1970s, the loss of ozone from the stratosphere (10 to 50 kilometers...

Earth and Environmental Scientist Peter Doran recently surveyed 3,146 scientists in an effort to clarify the “scientific consensus” on global warming. Professor Doran has previously complained that his study revealing cooling in the Antarctic had been misinterpreted, causing confusion in the global warming debate. Here we go again.
  • Asthma Sufferers Victimized by UN Ozone Madness

Beginning January 1, 2009, millions of asthma sufferers will no longer legally be able to obtain the low-cost albuterol inhalers that enable them to breathe. The inhalers have been outlawed by FDA regulations under the UN Montreal Protocol on Ozone Deplation.  Few things are more terrifying than being smothered, yet millions of Americans who suffer from asthma and other respiratory ailments experience this sensation on a regular basis. For many it is not just an unpleasant and debilitating experience, but a life-threatening one. For decades, these sufferers have received emergency relief from albuterol metered-dose inhalers (MDIs). These traditional MDIs, however,...

  • “Mountain waves” : Mountains in Antarctica can help destroy ozone layer

    01/13/2009 12:38:03 PM PST · by Red Badger · 26 replies · 682+ views
In a new research, it has been observed that “mountain waves” in the atmosphere above Antarctica create rare clouds that are helping destroy the ozone layer. Over the last two decades, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) released by human activity have opened a hole in the ozone layer over Antarctica. Key chemical reactions that lead to ozone depletion happen on the surface of rare polar stratospheric clouds (PSCs), which form high up in the atmosphere. Here, sunlight breaks down the CFCs into products that react to produce chlorine, which in turn decomposes ozone. “The question was: how are these clouds generated?” said Lars...

It looks as though the USSC or for that matter any of our elected representatives are going to do anything to call into question Barrack Obama's foreign national status. So, it's up to us (American Citizens) to apply the pressure to get them to take notice. We can BOYCOTT any spending on luxury/non-essential items. This will get the governments attention. Pay your bills but don't spend your tax refund, don't spend your stimulus payment. Call in to local radio talk shows.......you know the drill. If it's good enough for Jesse Jackson, then it is certainly good enough for us in...

The following petition has 2,200 signatures. Also please file any complaints with the FDA (Medwatch Reporting Form). Here is the link. https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/medwatch/medwatch-online.htm Find the blue Begin button to the right to start. Text of petition: The FDA, in compliance with the Montreal Protocol, has banned the use of life-saving CFC propellant albuterol asthma rescue inhalers in order to help restore the ozone layer, even though it has been widely acknowledged that these CFC inhaler emissions are too trivial to harm the ozone layer: Leslie Hendeles, University of Florida Professor of Pharmacy and Pediatrics, has noted that CFC inhalers release negligible...

I remember vividly an article in an old (late 1960's, early 1970's) Mechanix Illustrated magazine (the small version) that gave detailed plans for a "Fan With No Moving Parts". It used a transformer, plastic, and nails in order to generate an ionized 'wave' that moved air. A by-product of this was a slight increase in the ozone in the airstream. I wonder if anyone out in FReeperdom remembers this and possibly has the plans?

The results of the G-20 economic summit amount to nothing less than the seamless integration of the United States into the European economy. In one month of legislation and one diplomatic meeting, the United States has unilaterally abdicated all the gains for the concept of free markets won by the Reagan administration and surrendered, in toto, to the Western European model of socialism, stagnation and excessive government regulation. Sovereignty is out the window. Without a vote, we are suddenly members of the European Union. Given the dismal record of those nations at creating jobs and sustaining growth, merger with the...
