As part of our settlement with the LAT/WP, we have agreed to post only short excerpts and links from the following LAT/WP related publications. List of publications that must be excerpted.

All our threads have 'adminlectureseries' as a key word. I've got that link on our profile too.

Just a suggestion: why not put this list on an updatable page and have it pop up when posting an article? Or at least make it a link while posting. Or make it a dropdown box available while posting.

My conclusion is that the only safe course is to excerpt everything except that which is obviously in the public domain. And your posts are a pain!!!!!!!!
Practically useless for any research!

Ernest, I just noticed your reply here & elsewhere calling me over here.
While we, of course, must observe the terms of the settlement, whenever possible I encourage people to post the whole article simply because they routinely vanish from other sites.
It has happened to me more times than I can count.

Isn't it safer just to excerpt everything then? Absolutely yes, although people will complain about it. Too bad, as far as I'm concerned. I'd rather have some folks gripe than have FR get sued again.

I find it difficult to remember all of these, so I default to the excerpt. I know that makes some Freepers nuts, but better safe than sorry. Please see the question at post number 68^ and the answer at post number 72^.

I'll point out the obvious that leftist site forums don't often get complaints along these lines like we do. Some excerpt but many don't.

Duly noted and bookmarked. Thanks for letting us know what we need to excerpt!

Think that those of us who post threads a lot should make sure we keep a copy of the entire article in our own records so if someone has a need to see the complete article they can Freep Mail us. That way when it disappears from the WP site, we will still have the article if needed. Pain to do but I would be more than willing to keep a copy of the entire article for the future since we cannot post the complete article.
All we have to do is burn a CD with the original and the FR link while excerpting it here on FR. We can put a note to contact us for the full article if it is needed.

It's important to post whole articles here whenever possible. As numerous replies have said, one reason is to preserve them for the record. Old stories have a way of vanishing, and the liberal media is especially good at giving the deep six to any story they find inconvenient.
That makes FreeRepublic a prime source for research.
A second reason is that stories that may look OK on their home ground are immediately exposed for what they are in the context of FreeRepublic. We have the means here of picking them apart and highlighting contradictions, lies, and omissions.
Ironically, media which allow their contents to be posted here almost certainly profit from it. Freepers are made aware of their web sites, visit them, and presumably see their ads. I was unaware of the existence of The Independent until I saw it referenced here, and that's true of many other sources.
What that tells me is that the LA Times and the Washington Post are more concerned about political embarrassment than protecting their bottom lines--which is not really a surprise.

people will complain about it. Too bad, as far as I'm concerned. I'm limited to 28k dial-up. It would take 4 times longer to read an article if I had to follow a link... so yes, I do complain:-)
