Heidelberg Man Links Humans, Neanderthals
Discovery News ^ | 05-04-2011 | Jennifer Viegas

Posted on 05/09/2011 11:34:59 AM PDT by Renfield

The last common ancestor of humans and Neanderthals was a tall, well-traveled species called Heidelberg Man, according to a new PLoS One study.

The determination is based on the remains of a single Heidelberg Man (Homo heidelbergensis) known as "Ceprano," named after the town near Rome, Italy, where his fossil -- a partial cranium -- was found.

Previously, this 400,000-year-old fossil was thought to represent a new species of human, Homo cepranensis. The latest study, however, identifies Ceprano as being an archaic member of Homo heidelbergensis......

I will wait for scientists to get involved. The first line say “Conscious is building...”

Consensus gave us Global Warming also.

How would they determine whether a single skeleton or fraction is 'average' for a species.Imagine if the first fossil found of modern Homo sapiens belonged to this guy.

Indeed, being homos that played lyres probably was not a great way to propagate the species.

The bunga bunga parties of Homo Berlugensis, on the other hand...

“Yeah, genius! Those dumb bast_rds don’t know the difference between a dog turd and a donut.”

The Neandertal Enigma
by James Shreeve

in local libraries
Frayer's own reading of the record reveals a number of overlooked traits that clearly and specifically link the Neandertals to the Cro-Magnons. One such trait is the shape of the opening of the nerve canal in the lower jaw, a spot where dentists often give a pain-blocking injection. In many Neandertal, the upper portion of the opening is covered by a broad bony ridge, a curious feature also carried by a significant number of Cro-Magnons. But none of the alleged 'ancestors of us all' fossils from Africa have it, and it is extremely rare in modern people outside Europe." [pp 126-127]

Geez...I am so confused.

So: this guy 400k years ago was ancestral to Neandertal and us...but...haven't they been telling us for years now that our ancestors left Africa just 200k or so years ago?

Hmmm...somebody help me out here...

Last time I read about it, they genetically (via mitochondrial DNA) traced us back to a single woman, Eve, approx 80K years ago. Eve originated in Africa.

There are some theories that humans and Neanderthals interbred.

So the story goes...

Ahhh...yes...THAT clears it up...our guys waited around in Europe for, say, 320 thousand years for mitochondrial Eve to show up.

My Euro ancestors may have been primitive, but they sure were patient.

This is total BS. The Neanderthal has been ruled out as a plausible ancestor for modern man because the genetic gap is simply too wide, Neanderthal DNA being described as about halfway between ours and that of a chimpanzee, and Heidelbergensis was substantially further remolved from us than the Neanderthal.

The question of the BASIC NON EVOLUTION OF MODERN MAN has been gone over here before.

Too remote to be ancestral to is a transitive relationship; The Neanderthal is too remote to be ancestral to us and all other hominids were substantially further removed from us THAN the Neanderthal.

Neanderthal:

Heidelbergensis:

WE ARE NOT RELATED TO ANY HOMINID. Hominids were advanced apes; we are NOT apes. Any similarities between apes, humans, and hominids are examples of similar design parameters, and that's all.

Oh, yeah, one little new item or data point here and the question of at least some hominids walking upright as if that were proof of kinship to humans....

Check this out...

Walking upright you ask? Been there, done that.....

“They sure do extrapolate a lot of information from a partial cranium. See if you can find one of his teeth, so you can tell us what kind of music he liked.”

What did Mark Twain have to say? Oh yeah:

“There is something fascinating about science. One gets such wholesale returns of conjecture out of such a trifling investment of fact.”

When you look at successful species they tend to hang around a while, Us for example.

Um, yeah.......

It's not like they're considered successful because they hung around a little, now is it?

Which side of the debate are you on?

Evolutionists used to have lots of weird fantasies about Neanderthals.
