Neandertal and Denisovan blood groups deciphered
HeritageDaily ^ | July 2021 | CNRS

In a new study, scientists from the CNRS, Aix-Marseille University, and the French Blood Establishment (EFS) have examined the previously sequenced genomes of one Denisovan and three Neandertal females who lived 100,000 to 40,000 years ago, in order to identify their blood groups and consider what they may reveal about human’s evolutionary history. Of the 40-some known blood group systems, the team concentrated on the seven usually considered for blood transfusion purposes, the most common of which are the ABO (determining the A, B, AB, and O blood types) and Rh systems.

The findings bolster previous hypotheses but also offer new surprises. While it was long thought that Neandertals were all type O—just as chimpanzees are all type A and gorillas all type B—the researchers demonstrated that these ancient hominins already displayed the full range of ABO variability observed in modern humans. Extensive analysis covering other blood group systems turned up alleles that argue in favour of African origins for Neandertals and Denisovans.

It’s most likely because they were fully human who were adapted to their environments.

We did not evolve. GOD got it right when He created Adam and Eve.

It’s interesting that the gene sequence on chromosome 9 that produces blood type A differs from the sequence that produces B by less than two dozen base pairs. O which doesn’t code for a blood protein is nearly identical with A, merely lacking the first base pair, making the successive sequence non-functional.

Let’s not dive into the M-N blood group, but the wikipedia page on blood types at least used to be magesterial in its discussion of the entire topic.

Adults are talking here. Better get back to Sunday school.

I can’t believe there are Young Earth Creationists still around, believing nonsense with literally no evidentiary backing.

I’m AB negative, which, I believe, make makes one of my earliest ancestors a Neanderthal—though I find Denisovans even more interesting.

Also, I’m a universal donor. Friend who volunteered at the blood bank told me to never give blood or they’d drain me dry.

O- is the universal donor blood. You’d be the universal receiver.

Are you trying to kill me, an O- bloodtype?|

Scientists also wonder if RHO- bloodtypes have an alien origin.

No.

You cannot give blood to anyone except AB. ( + or - ).

You can accept blood only from AB-.

This is the rarest of blood types.

It’s also mine.

Friend who volunteered at the blood bank told me to never give blood or they’d drain me dry.

When I was first married my employer had a blood drive. I decided to donate and they took my blood and gave me a card with my blood type on it. It was B. When I told my hubby that, he said that it had to be B positive because B negative was very rare. Well, it was, and is, B negative. And after I did that the blood drive people were calling me constantly to give more blood.

I wouldn't mind giving blood; but, finding my veins are a real problem. Finally, after years of having people search for a vein to tap some blood for a test, the last tech I went to did find my vein and told me that it was there; but, it was very deep.

I’m a B- and my son is an AB-. For a long time I thought that AB- could donate to B-. I discovered a few years ago that it is the opposite. The B- can donate to AB- , but AB- cannot donate to B- .

Which then leaves the B- with no other type able to donate blood to them.

I know the genetic testing services provide % of Neanderthal genes. Do they do Denisovan genes now too? My mother’s family was Prussian, and my father’s British. I probably have some far eastern (Asian?) blood because eastern Europe was attacked by Mongols and others. My 2 lateral incisors have the shovel shape that Neanderthal teeth have. I wonder if Denisovan teeth also have that marker? My husband had light blue eyes, and mine were hazel. Both our sons have dark brown eyes. The only way I can figure it is that I must have dark brown recessive eye genes (probably far eastern) that were less recessive than my husbands very recessive blue eyes.

AB negative is the universal PLASMA donor - not the universal blood donor.

They should have named the Denisovan female Wilma.
