General Julian Hatcher, a noted forensic pathologist, in the early 1900’s developed a good formula to determine the theoretical stopping power of a firearm cartridge. His formula has withstood the test of time and validation from other studies and data related to stopping power. You want a handgun cartridge that has a Hatcher value of over 50 for the most effective stopping power. Values over 55 have diminishing returns in that you don’t gain any significant increase in stopping power for the extra recoil and control you must cope with. Handgun cartridges that don’t make a value of at least...

Outline of the criteria that I use for selecting my carry ammo, and presenting some choices that I considerable viable for carry in my chosen platform. I've had this question so often, it was time to make a video on the topic. I've been shooting 9mm on a regular basis since the late 90's, so my research into this began at that time. Obviously, technology has changed quite a bit. There is a ton of useful information online, but having the ability to run ammo tests in the backyard has certainly helped to confirm (or not) my research over...

A revolutionary fighter named Ahmed Al Shebani shot and killed Moammar Gadhafi in Sirte, Libya, Al Arabiya television reported Thursday. The man, who doesn't look much older than 25, allegedly shot Gadhafi in the shoulder as the former Libyan dictator attempted to flee from a hiding spot in a drain pipe. Giffords Shooter Jared Loughner Used a Glock 19 Posted on January 8, 2011 by Robert Farago The Washington Post is reporting that TTAG’s Brad Kozak was right to say the media was wrong when they rushed to report that Rep. Gabrielle Giffords shooter Jared Loughner used an “automatic rifle” to carry-out his heinous crime. As Brad and I discussed, mortality is limited when you spray a large group of people with a full-auto rifle. Accuracy is difficult as people tend to hit the deck pretty damn quick. Look at the often amazing lack of lethality of drive-by shootings. Loughner had...

PALM BAY, Fla. -- A local bank customer was hailed as a hero Thursday night for taking down a man who said he was down on his luck and he decided to commit a robbery. Floyd Francis gave up instantly, police said, and he was taken to the Brevard County Jail. "I drew my gun on him and put him down," Ruben Torres said. In a hand-written confession, Francis said he tried to rob the Space Coast Credit Union in Palm Bay because he needed money. He wrote, "I make music for a living, but tings not working out right...

I decided a wanted a new gun, but I didn't have much money to spend. I did a little research, and came across the Hi-Point 9mm. I came across some mixed reviews. There were those that said it jammed, was super ugly, and way too heavy. But, then there were those that said it was more accurate than most of the guns they owned, couldn't be easier to clean and maintain, and best of all, it came with a lifetime warranty, not questions asked, and it's made in the good old USA. Wait, I lied, the best part is the...

Okay, I am looking for an easily concealable 9mm handgun for my wife. Main qualities (not necessarily in order), 1) Reliability, 2)min. size/weight 3) Preferably under $400, used is okay if with a lifetime warranty. 4) approx. 10 round mag. 5)Double action only trigger so that there are no safeties to fumble with Disqualifiers: cheap junk, Taurus semi auto. I had almost talked myself into believing that Taurus had improved their semi-autos, and today I looked at a brand new Taurus PT-111 that was inoperable. Thanks. BoT

Ogden police said it happened about 9 a.m. Tuesday at a home on the 200 block of 29th Street when two men tried to break in. "They were kicking in the door, and the man was inside with his family," Ogden Police Lt. Scott Sangberg said Tuesday. "He went to the door with his 9 mm (handgun). Need advice: I have a friend who needs money and wants me to buy his Ruger P-89. I used to own one and carried it as a duty weapon and loved it until I bought a Glock so I wouldn't mind owning one again just to take to the range. It is in great shape, has the orig. case, 3 clips, and he claims to have only fired 4 clips through it at an indoor range. He wants $300 but I could buy a new one for that. What is the most FReepers think I should pay. (I'm willing to...

April 30, 2007 issue - The three students from Wilberforce University, near Xenia, Ohio, had a tremendous fondness for 9-millimeter pistols. They bought them as many as 25 at a time from the accommodating owner of the Hole in the Wall Gun Shop, James Dillard. As required by Ohio law, the buyers duly attested that the guns were for their personal use, which was good enough for Dillard. In fact, according to federal prosecutors, the pistols were passed to a gunrunner who resold them to street gangs. Seventy-six 9mm semiautomatics were sold to just one gang, the Double II Bloods...

Defective state police guns to be replaced The Tribune-Star Indiana State Police will receive new Glock 9 mm handguns as a result of functional problems with their current Glock 40-caliber handguns. About 50 guns that were identified as dysfunctional through a manufacturer defect will be replaced, said Indiana State Police Sgt. Joe Watts.
