I just watched the show. Brian Robbins explained many connections between Catholicism and Judaism and alluded to many others. I learned a lot and will even be recording tonight’s 1 A.M. showing, so I can learn more.

Absolutely fascinating references to the connections between the Jewish holidays and their fulfillment by the Messiah.

I watched the program and just as I suspected, he grew up a Reform Jew, which means he knew nothing about Judaism other than a thin venier of holidays. He admitted to never reading the bible. So, he was a JINO, Jew in name only.

A very sad story of a man who doesnt know anything about his faith, being caught up by a "tingle" feeling and buying into the narrative becuse he was vulnerable.

A wholely unconvincing and sad story. And I'll bet money he is an Obama voter and a democrat.

You say you watched the program. You will then recall that, at the request of his father, he met with a Rabbi well versed in New Testament scripture; someone who is called upon for apologetics. What did you think of the question Brian Robbins posed to the Rabbi?

Well, I would love to know who this Rabbi was, for one. I would bet again, that this Rabbi was a Reform Rabbi. Only a Reform Rabbi would have told him, "I respect where your at in your journey" (something to that effect) He should have started his spiritual journey by speaking with a Rabbi, an Orthodox Rabbi. But I am sure that he was taught his whole life that the Orthodox are primitve throwbacks, that foolishly teach that the Tanach is the word of G-d, that the mitzvot (commandments) are no longer applicable, there is no Temple returning etc etc....So what does he do? He first consults an Opus Dei member. Then after he has converted in his mind, does he then go talk to a "Rabbi"

As far as the question he asked goes? I thought it was further evidence of his lack of understanding of the Jewish scriptures. If he knew the Jewish scriptures, he NEVER would have asked the question because it would be painfully clear that the god-man of Nazareth could never be messiah.

He should have started his spiritual journey by speaking with a Rabbi, an Orthodox Rabbi.

Agreed! I would be curious to know what you make of Roy Schoeman's conversion. His rabbi was Arthur Hertzberg. His story has always fascinated me.

Well this story in many ways is like the other. He admits to not having a very deep religious upbringing.".. although the suburban conservative context I was in did not really support a life of piety, faith and prayer. "

Conservative Jews are not that much different than Reform. For example, a person who converts into conservative or reform Judaism is not recognized as a valid conversion by the State of Israel or the Orthodox due to the lack of knowlege and education of halacha, Jewish law.

Aurthur Hertzberg was a liberal. He is not a person to look up to at all. Here are some of his views:

...a self-styled pragmatic liberal...

....1967 when he called for the creation of a Palestinian state alongside Israel, a position that was anathema among most America Jews. He had recounted his public battles with both Golda Meir and Menachem Begin over their policies toward the Palestinians

He was a Conservative Rabbi who hated Torah True Judaism to justify his rebellion against Torah so its no surprise that he would demean authentic Judaism. He was an anti-Israel activist supporting the PLO's fight for a Palestinian terror state as soon as Israel liberated Judea, Samaria and Gaza in '67. Israel's safety and security meant nothing to him as long as he could be a important figure among the left wing political elite. "He was against Torah being part of Israel demanding it be a purely secular atheist state see his book The Fate of Zionism: A Secular Future for Israel" Palestine which he is happy to have described as "...middle path between the Israeli right wing and critics like Edward Said and Noam Chomsky.."

He strongly supported Jew haters such as Rashid Khalidi making sure he was employed by multiple universities to spread his hatred for Israel and the Jewish people.

Shlomo Carlebach was an Orthodox Rabbi and a musician. He was in fact a hippie type singing Rabbi and known for his love of all mankind. I have no criticism of him.

Regarding th Yeshivas in Israel Schoeman said"But I was turned off by a certain sterility and coldness which I saw in them, and which did not speak of real intimacy with God."

If he felt that way, he was at the wrong Yeshiva. There are many Yeshivas that in fact DO speak of real intamcy with G-d and had he known people in the Orthodox world, he would have found the right one.

He goes on to talk about skiing and such and then this "encounter" just like the other guy, where he has this "feeling" of a god presence he later attributes to Jesus. Notice that it doesnt come by study of scripture but an emotional feeling.

The guy sounds a little wacky to me, like he is not emotionally sound.

"So my religiosity soon became mixed up in the drug and "free love" culture which was rampant, and soon degenerated into the immoral, vague hippie "spirituality" of the time. My thirst for God became, for a long while, sated by the false consolations and delusional spirituality of that environment."

Huh? okay dude...

I moved to Denmark, because I sensed, in the deeper relationship which Danes had with life and family, a greater spiritual meaning, but once there it was obviously not my real life so I returned.

Huh? okay dude...

The he on to say he had another vision...this time of the virgin Mary.

He obviously knew nothing of Jewish teaching regarding the reason why Jews reject the story of the virgin Mary. The Isaiah 7 has absolutely nothing to do with a virgin birth. (Investigate it yourself if you would like at Messiah Truth dot com)

He is just another deJudaized Jew who was lost because his lack of knowlege of the Holy Scriptures. So, in essence,

Oh and Conversion is a two way street. I stumbled across this list. My prediction is that in the information age we live in, many more Christians will be converting to Judaism or Noahidism, now that information to Jewish texts are now widely available. Here are some Christian converts to Judaism.

1) Asher Wade, former Methodist pastor
2) Ole Brunell, former Lutheran minister from Finland and Australia.
3) JoAnn Fay, a former Catholic nun.
4) John David Scalamonti, a former Roman Catholic priest
5) John Hove, a former Lutheran pastor.
6 ) Thomas Roper, a former Baptist minister
7) Gavriel Sanders, former Pentecostal minister and missionary in Israel.
8) Tonica Marlow, a former female evangelical minister and daughter of a Pentecostal preacher.
9) Aharón Calderón, a former monk of a Catholic monastery in South America.
10) Armando Quiros, a former catholic priest.
11) Michael Flanagan, a former Baptist minister, and son of a Minister
12) Ahuva Gray, served as a Christian minister in the African American community both in Chicago and Los Angeles for fourteen years
13) Nobutaka Hattori, a former Protestant Minister of Japan
14) Ary’el Tsion, formerly known as Bert Woudwijk, a Messianic pastor from Holland
15) Benjamin Klugger, former Pentecostal missionary
16) George Gunsberger, president of the Messianic Jewish Alliance of Australia for 10 years,

Thank you for taking the time to read Schoeman's story, along with the feedback.

He was a Conservative Rabbi who hated Torah True Judaism

I am not familiar with the phrase "Torah True Judaism". Can you expound on it? I am also intrigued by the separations (?), divisions (?), not quite sure which expression best describes the differences between Orthodox, Conservative and Liberal Judaism.

I grew up with Jewish neighbors - some were more observant than others. My catholic grandmother attended a Jewish school where she was befriended. She would smile in telling me they called her a shiksa. When I worked at the North American HQ of an int'l airline in Manhattan, I had 2 Jewish staff. One was Ashkenazi, the other Sephardic. When the holy days arrived, the Sephardic woman needed more time off to prepare.

Recently, a well known rabbi warned the pope to do everything in his power to prevent the same divisions from occurring among catholics. With us it is a lot simpler. Those who dispute doctrine, are excommunicated. Even so, there is an element that consider themselves more orthodox than others and several groups that, as cited above, have excommunicated themselves.

Thank you again for the conversation. I have always held the Jews in high esteem and with great respect. Were I not a Catholic, I would be a Jew.

Thank you for taking the time to read Schoeman's story, along with the feedback.

Sure, happy to. I am always intrigued with these stories. I usually find a common thread. It is not to say that Orthodox never convert, they do, it is just very rare. I usually find it is the liberals.

I am not familiar with the phrase "Torah True Judaism". Can you expound on it? I am also intrigued by the separations (?), divisions (?), not quite sure which expression best describes the differences between Orthodox, Conservative and Liberal Judaism.

Torah True Judaism means that a person believes that the mitzvot or commandments are still binding and that a person should live according to halacha or Jewish Law. So, they typically will be Sabbath observant meaning they dont drive or cook with fire on the Sabbath etc. They keep kosher, not only avoiding pig and shellfish but also milk and meat together, which is more a rabbinic expansion from the oral Torah. The women observe the laws of niddah or family purity, meaning no sex during or immediately after menstruation, followed by the Mikvah bath for spiritual purification before relations resume. It goes on.... Typically the Orthodox (Modern, Chabad, Breslev etc) follow this level of observance.

Conservative and Reform are the other two mainstream groups although there are many others. Conservative still believe in more biblical teachings but not the rabbinic. I would say they the moderates to center left of the spectrum. They do allow women Rabbi's but not gay. Reform on the other hand dismiss the commandments as out-of-date and moral guidelines. The tend to be more center left to left. Social Justice to them comes from the government. Their buildings are "temples" because in their view the Temple Worship in Jerusalem is also an expired concept, as are the commandments. The Rabbis can be women or gay, gay marriage is okay, abortions are okay....the full liberal deal. Unfortunately, this represents 80% of American Jewry. (It is a historical based problem, the flight of reform Jews in the late 19th and early 20th century to the Us. The observant tended to stay in Europe more).

Yeah, lots of Jewish boys go for the shiskas or the gentile girls...forbidden fruit.

Thank you again for the conversation. I have always held the Jews in high esteem and with great respect. Were I not a Catholic, I would be a Jew.

Sure, anytime, glad we could dialogue. I have many Catholic friends and understand where you are coming from. Thanks, the respect is mutual.

Wow!!!

Your list of conversion stories, thank you. I love the
Journey Home. I can’t get it on our T.V. anymore but
watch it on the Net.

I skimmed through the list, I might of missed one former
belief. I am looking for a conversion from MESSIANIC
JUDIASM to Catholicism.

I was watching Brian Robbins tell the story of his conversion from Judaism to Catholicism, I liked when he told about the “moment” of his conversion.

Marcus Grodi, the host doesn’t say much, Brian tells his story so well all you want to listen.

Watch at 35:30, he speaks of the Jewish Calendar, mentioning
four or five Jewish holy days and how they parallel Christ’s life.

Brian’s explanation is simple and brief and after hearing it, absolutely, you know there are no coincidences.
