:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Critical Threats: Blank When None
Al Qaeda’s Yemen Connection, America and the Global Islamic Jihad

December 30, 2009 — The attempt to destroy Northwest Airlines flight 253 en route from Amsterdam to Detroit on Christmas Day underscores the growing ambition of al Qaeda's Yemen franchise, which has grown from a largely Yemeni agenda to become a player in the global Islamic jihad in the last year. Since merging with the al Qaeda franchise in Saudi Arabia last January and renaming itself Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), it has stepped up operations in Yemen itself, struck into Saudi Arabia, and now operates on the global stage. The weak Yemeni government of President Ali Abdallah Salih, which has never fully controlled the country and now faces a host of growing problems, will need significant American support to defeat AQAP.

Al Qaeda has long been active in Yemen, the original homeland of Osama bin Laden's family, and one of its first major terror attacks was conducted in Aden in 2000, when an al Qaeda cell nearly sank the USS Cole. A year ago, the al Qaeda franchises in Saudi Arabia and Yemen merged after the Saudi branch had been effectively repressed by the Saudi authorities under the leadership of Deputy Interior Minister Prince Muhammad bin Nayif. The new AQAP showed its claws last August, when it almost assassinated the prince with a suicide bomber who had passed through at least two airports on the way to his attempt on Nayif.

(snip)

The attack on the Amsterdam-Detroit flight also shows that al Qaeda remains obsessed with striking the American airline industry, a target it has gone after repeatedly since 1999. If AQAP has now been told by the al Qaeda core leadership to take on the job, we can probably assume that other al Qaeda franchises in North Africa, Iraq, Southeast Asia and elsewhere have also been pressed to attack.

Great link.

Note that Canada's risk is less than one half of the US risk. ( Why? Airline Policy. The US has a "maybe" in keeping Jihadis off US bound flights, we do not do a search of the banned to fly list and tango suspect lists of the CIA, and allow last minute boarding of terrorists who do not even have passports, thats got to hurt)

Canada takes all the necessary precautions, because they do not labor under a political correctness tyrannical government.

This is not surprising when considering the influx into our nation..as well the overall mindset of those who desire to destroy and weaken the Us, be it from within or without...actually both.

What we have now is it's coming at us from all directions, the end result to weaken and bring us to a place where we have no choice but to comply at best.. or be isolated and off the international grid as a super power.

The Us has to be weakened so it cannot interferr with the International momentum of A One World Global Governance and Monetary System. BO is a Globalist so he has no concern of the US maintaining it's leadership on the world stage...which is why he had so much financial backing in the election...Soros owns him.

Additionally Canada has become in a sense a favored nation by Muslims.
I think it was about four or five years ago there was a huge push by Muslims to form a party in Canadas Parlimentary.. in order to Govern their own people in the court system under Sharia Law.
So in many ways Canada is not on their hit list.

Anyone know how that played out?

Well, I’ve looked high and low but can’t find any info on a report that I heard early this morning on FOX.

Catherine Herridge was reporting about the extra security in New York last night. She stated there was one suspicious incident involving 3 “foreign passported” men relatively close to the Times Square area. She went on to state the men were carrying backpacks and they were checked out by LE. Nothing was found in the backpacks and lastly Catherine reported that the men were from Iran and definitely acting in a suspicious manner. FWIW

YES I heard the same report and looked everywhere - but nothing.

Seems to me a lot of mysterious things happening with events and people disappearing/not being reported etc.

US scanners went unused at Nigeria airport
December 31, 2009

LAGOS, Nigeria -- The U.S. gave Nigeria four full-body scanners for its international airports in 2008 to detect explosives and drugs, but none were used on the man suspected trying to blow up a Detroit-bound flight, Nigerian officials say.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, tracked by cameras through the security check, only went through a metal detector and had his bag X-rayed when he arrived at Nigeria's busiest airport to start his journey, the officials say.

The Soter RS scanners delivers 3-D images that would have shown something hidden under clothing. But a spokesman for the anti-drug agency, which operates the Nigerian machines, told The Associated Press that the one at Lagos airport is used sporadically and only on potential narcotics smugglers.

Arabic study may have been cover for bomb suspect
Dec. 31, 2009

SAN'A, Yemen – The Nigerian suspected of trying to bring down a U.S. airliner with explosives might have used Arabic studies as a pretext for entering Yemen before disappearing for months, perhaps into one of the lawless country's al-Qaida strongholds, fellow students and teachers said.

Interviews with staff and students at the Institute for the Arabic Language this week have revealed that Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was frequently absent from classes and spent at most one month at the school in Yemen's capital, San'a, starting in late August before vanishing. Authorities say he didn't leave the country until December and that his whereabouts during that period remains a mystery.

Adding to the notion that his studies were a ruse, one teacher at the institute said the young man stood out because he already spoke Arabic with a considerable degree of fluency. "I noticed he understood the language very quickly and he was eloquent and convincing in his speech," Ahmed Moajjib said.

Al Qaida threatens invasion of Spain
Friday, January 01, 2010

The Al Qaida terrorist organization has threatened to open yet another front in its war with the West, according to a January 1 video message disseminated by the terrorists’ second-in-command Ayman al Zawahiri. Speaking to terrrorists living in North Africa, also known as the Magreb, Al Zawahiri said that the reconquest of Spain – which was once largely occupied by Muslims – will not be accomplished without “disinfecting” the Magreb of infidels. These would include, reportedly, both Frenchmen and Spaniards.

The video showed graphically the inentions of Al Qaida, led by Osama bin Laden, to take the war to the European Continent as it showed a Muslim wave sweeping over the Iberian Peninsula, which it identified as “Al Andalus.” Images of a church in Cordoba, which once served as a mosque, were shown on the video as a goal of the projected Muslim reconquest. Muslim groups in Spain have insisted that the church be reverted to its use as a mosque. Security in Ceuta and Melilla – two Spanish cities on the shores of North Africa – remains tense. Incidents on their borders are almost a daily occurence.

Al Qaida terrorists are currently holding three Spanish aid workers and are demanding concessions from the Spanish government. The aid workers were captured by terrorists in late November 2009 during a mission in Mauritania.

Thanks for posting that link WCG.
Another snip:

But Masjid al-Taqwa, like the hundreds of other radical mosques throughout the country, has never been raided and the leaders of Wahaj’s army remain to be questioned.
