:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Critical Threats: Blank When None
Al Qaeda’s Yemen Connection, America and the Global Islamic Jihad

December 30, 2009 — The attempt to destroy Northwest Airlines flight 253 en route from Amsterdam to Detroit on Christmas Day underscores the growing ambition of al Qaeda's Yemen franchise, which has grown from a largely Yemeni agenda to become a player in the global Islamic jihad in the last year. Since merging with the al Qaeda franchise in Saudi Arabia last January and renaming itself Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), it has stepped up operations in Yemen itself, struck into Saudi Arabia, and now operates on the global stage. The weak Yemeni government of President Ali Abdallah Salih, which has never fully controlled the country and now faces a host of growing problems, will need significant American support to defeat AQAP.

Al Qaeda has long been active in Yemen, the original homeland of Osama bin Laden's family, and one of its first major terror attacks was conducted in Aden in 2000, when an al Qaeda cell nearly sank the USS Cole. A year ago, the al Qaeda franchises in Saudi Arabia and Yemen merged after the Saudi branch had been effectively repressed by the Saudi authorities under the leadership of Deputy Interior Minister Prince Muhammad bin Nayif. The new AQAP showed its claws last August, when it almost assassinated the prince with a suicide bomber who had passed through at least two airports on the way to his attempt on Nayif.

(snip)

The attack on the Amsterdam-Detroit flight also shows that al Qaeda remains obsessed with striking the American airline industry, a target it has gone after repeatedly since 1999. If AQAP has now been told by the al Qaeda core leadership to take on the job, we can probably assume that other al Qaeda franchises in North Africa, Iraq, Southeast Asia and elsewhere have also been pressed to attack.

BTW a Google glitch somehow killed the link on the AntiMullah Main Page linking to NewsViews article with a good analysis of the Obambi effort to refuse anyone opposing its decisions:

While doing news searches last night, Google attemted to prevent me from accessing my news sources, telling me I appearerd to be a spammer. I'm beginning to see Goggle jokes and that's NOT a good thing for Google IMHO.

Was he one of the 14 Syrian ‘musicians’ on NWA 327..

An open letter to the Hon. Jason Kenney

Snip: Abu Ratib is an Islamist radical from Luton, who's come into conflict with senior members of the mainstream central mosque for distributing leaflets about Jihad. He's been linked to Omar Bakri Mohammed's group, Al Muhajiroun, though he denies having been a member. But judging by one of his speeches on the internet, he believes Al Qaeda is Islamically justified.

Spokesman for UK Islamic Extremist Group praises Abu Musab al-Zarquawi as brilliant

Globalterroralert has obtained an original audio recording of a lecture given by "Abu Ratib", a spokesman for the radical British Al-Muhajiroun movement (a.k.a. "Ahlus Sunnah waal Jamaah"), led by Shaykh Omar Bakri Mohammed.  During his January 2005 speech, Abu Ratib celebrated Abu Musab al-Zarqawi as "brilliant" for his "attack on the Shia" and his recent written manifesto condemning the concept of democracy (which Abu Ratib described as "the most beautiful statement ever heard").  The Al-Muhajiroun spokesman also assured his audience that Zarqawi's "slogans and statements are all in adherence to the Quran... Glory be to Allah, this person is a man of Tawheed.  May Allah keep him as a true believer, and may he die as a true believer, and may Allah make him a martyr."

Iran special analysis - what Karroubi's statement on MR Khamenei - Head of Government means

Snips: As we broke up the meeting tonight, an EA correspondent said, “You know, Karroubi may well have another statement out when we wake up in the morning.” Indeed, he could, even to the point of issuing another clarification that withdraws/modifies his “Mr Khamenei” position.

But, at the least, we can’t see Karroubi withdrawing his now sustained condemnation — sometimes explicit, sometimes in a bit of coding, as today — of President Ahmadinejad. At most, he separates Mr Khamenei from his criticism.

So pull back all those headlines that came out earlier today (and are still in some “Western” publications). This is not recognition of the President. This is, to adopt a US term, “dis-respecting”.It’s not a question of if, but how far, Karroubi wants to push it.

Sharia law is slowly infiltrating our country. We are blessed to have the greatest Constitution ever written. “We the people” had better use it or before too long, we will lose it.

Ahmadi-Nejad has responded rudely “who does the “negro picaninny” (kaka siah) Obama think he is?

That's pretty racist and if my contact with Muslims is any indication, (I had a Muslim professor in college) then this is par for the course.

Reading the last paragraph (highlighted) of the second link, and wondering how Napolitano can justify open borders and prosecution of Sheriff Joe when the DEA clearly states a connection between drug traffickers and terrorism. Those in charge of protecting us, are allowing it to continue on a daily basis with NO apparent intention of stopping it while we know for certain drug cartels (definitely terrorist in nature) are supplying the countless shipments of drugs crossing the border into America.

The Rule of Law is being ignored and, in fact, twisted so that those protecting us are considered extremists and those attacking us and bringing in drugs are considered worthy of attorneys and protection (Ramos and Compeon case for example). We are being destroyed from within.

US and China pick their fight

Snip: The Obama administration has decided to sell updated and advanced weapons to Taiwan, and the president will meet the Dalai Lama this spring, ........More measures to curb China’s imports will be introduced and, according to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the White House will press Zhongnanhai to promote cyber freedom.

China reacted angrily to oppose the US arms sales to Taiwan, its major political and military rival, and responded immediately by conducted a successful anti-missile test. Although diplomatically the Chinese government brushed aside any claim that the test was its reaction to the arms sales, its timing spoke for itself.

DEA uncovers a Latin-America-Africa drug-terror nexus

Snips: According to the announcement, it was the first time members of al-Qaida have faced charges linked to drug trafficking. The sting operation, which used DEA confidential sources (CSs) posing as agents for the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), uncovered a Latin America-Africa nexus between drug trafficking organizations (DTOs) and al-Qaida that one former DEA official has called the “tip of the iceberg.” This operation is the third time the DEA has used CSs posing as FARC agents or operatives to lure suspects into a trap orchestrated to capture and convict transnational criminals. The first time the DEA used this ruse it resulted in the capture, arrest and conviction of Syrian arms trafficker Monzer al-Kassar, who was arrested in Spain in 2007. The second sting captured renowned arms trafficker Viktor Bout in 2008, who currently languishes in a Bangkok prison awaiting extradition to either Russia or the US.

The capture of three Malian men, proclaimed members of the North African al-Qaida franchise known as al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), is the first time the DEA has uncovered what appears to be a solid connection between Latin American drug smugglers and a well-established terrorist organization.

“There are clear connections between drug traffickers and terrorism because there are many similarities between the two,” DEA spokesperson Dawn Dearden told ISN Security Watch, adding, “they’re both clandestine, they both have corrupt officials at the highest levels [...] and they both rely on shadow facilitators.”

In Darfur, it was black and Arab Muslims killing black Christians. When they ran out of black Christians, the Arab Muslims turned on the black Muslims. Observe what they do, not what they say. The latter is calculated deception.

Those killed in the crash were Ethiopians (blacks) and their lives considered less newsworthy by the government run media (that Obama supporters prefer - just as there is virtually no coverage whatsoever of the violence going on in African nations these days). Instead here we are on this thread wondering why this plane crash was so summarily considered "not terrorism" and let be forgotten. Sighing here and praying for the families of the victims of that flight.
