Mideast Expert: Assad is Winning -- and That’s Bad for Israel
Israel National News ^ | Sunday, June 16, 2013 | Maayana Miskin

Assad is winning with Iran's help, Mideast expert says. He warns Israel not to rely on the 'corrupt, ineffective' UN.

Syrian President Bashar Assad now has the upper hand in his ongoing war with Syrian rebels, according to Dr. David Bukai of Haifa University, an expert in Middle East affairs.

Iran and Hizbullah are helping Assad win, Bukai told Arutz Sheva. "This increases his weakness vis-a-vis Iran," he warned.

"Syria will be more dependent on Iran, and that will affect our border, because if Assad is not independent and is open to Iranian and Hizbullah influence, there will be attempts to 'heat up' the border," he warned.

Lebanon, too, could prove unstable, he said. "The Sunni Muslims, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, are very concerned by Hizbullah and Iran. The Sunni Muslim religious leaders have issued a religious edict against Hizbullah and Shi'ite Islam, so Lebanon is apparently going back to being a conflict zone," he predicted.

Israel cannot depend on the United Nations to provide protection in the north, he declared. "The U.N. is a corrupt organization. 'Um, Shum' [U.N., Shmu-N], as David Ben-Gurion said."

"It's an organization dominated by the Islamist states, and it is ineffective," he continued. "Just now we saw the [Israel-Syria] border heat up, and the Austrian troops withdrew… They cannot be relied on."

I say let the battle continue indefinitely until Al-Qaeda expends all of its respawns.

That will require that neither side runs out of ammo.

Call me naive but I suspect that there's *no* possible outcome in Syria that would be *good* for Israel...there's just one that would be less (or least) bad.

Insane. To think that the ones taking over would be somehow better for Israel. I cannot believe that a decade after 9/11, the US military is supporting Al Qeida in the field, and is even going to fly to protect them.

Disgraceful and treasonous.

As long as Shiites and Sunnis are killing each other, what’s the problem?

I think Assad is the least bad one. Assad does not actively try to kill Syrian Christians, but the rebels do. Assad has learned from personal experience what happens when he directly challenges Israel, but the rebels haven’t and have would love a fight.
Assad understands that if he shoots chemicals at Israel, he could get nuked. The rebels only want to see the whole place destroyed.
The rebels have sworn allegiance to Al Qeida.

None are good guys there, buy who in their right mind would want the rebels to take over from Assad?

As always....the key questions for me are: How does all this ultimately fulfill Isaiah 17...Psalms 83...Ezekiel 38, 39...et al.

What events NOW lead to THOSE ends? Does Assad winning with Iran and Russia's help do it? Does a Rebel victory accomplish this?

It's like knowing the answer and solving for X. What's X?

Assad isn’t a radical Muslim that wants to Kill Christians, So Obama wants him removed. Just like Obama wanted Kadaffi removed because he didn’t want to radically kill Christians. Obama wants these moderate Muslims removed so the radicals can take over. He’ll do anything for radical Islam. The Anti-Christ does this

I was watching ABC talking heads just now and all the unarguable assumption is that the United States MUST topple Assad. The bounds of discussion are limited by that one goal.

I think it’s none of our government’s business what happens in Syria and any meddling by the Idiot in Chief will only make matters worse.

Also why is this worth one borrowed American dollar, at a time that we cannot allow the Thunderbirds to perform at airshows or service Academy graduations due to budget cuts?

Indeed, like the rebels would be “good” for Israel.

Assad has been around for a long time, but now he’s a humbled and weakened Assad on life support from Iran and Hezbollah.

I say its a good situation for Israel. The Sunni states won’t care what Israel does to Hezbollah and Assad won’t be a threat for a long time.

It is actually good for Israel.

Does anyone think for one New York minute that al quaida would refrain from attacking Israel? The “rebels” are al quaida.

We want Assad to win. Period. We want secular government. Not muslim kooks in charge.

If he’s winning, he’ll just win a pile of concrete and a nation still hating him.
