It may not come as surprising news to many of you that the United Nations doesn’t approve of our Second Amendment. Not one bit. And they very much hope to do something about it with help from some powerful American friends. Under the guise of a proposed global “Small Arms Treaty” premised to fight “terrorism”, “insurgency” and “international crime syndicates” you can be quite certain that an even more insidious threat is being targeted – our Constitutional right for law-abiding citizens to own and bear arms. While the terms have yet to be made public, if passed by the U.N....

The Senate Appropriations Committee is expected to...

It's good to be king, particularly if you are a president who wants to impose more infringements on that which shall not be infringed, and Congress is disinclined to play along. As President of the United States, that would be (or should be) a problem, because the separation of powers built into the structure of our government splits power among the three branches of government (and no--not Sen. Schumer's "three branches of government"), but for a king who rules by decree, it's as easy as, "Stroke of the pen. Law of the Land. Kinda cool." According to the Huffington Post's...

Tina Brown, the newly-minted British ex-patriot Newsweek editor-in-chief, certainly isn’t waisting any time promoting her agenda. By now it’s pretty old news that the anti-gun/anti-Second Amendment crowd (i.e. the political left) has been trying to use the Tucson active shooter situation to get new gun control laws passed, like a high-capacity magazine (not “clip”) ban and a new federal assault weapons ban (AWB). It’s par for the course, really, and to be expected. However, Newsweek just did something sneaky. In a call-to-arms (excuse the pun)-style pro-gun-control opinion piece, two of its writers, Andrew Romano and Pat Wingert, attempted to rebrand...

President Obama has long supported "reasonable" gun-control efforts that protect the innocent while preserving the rights of the Second Amendment. Yet the belief that his real goal is to confiscate everyone's guns (perhaps as a way to end hunting and force everyone to subsist on an all-arugula diet) took hold in the gun community long ago. Obama's infamous remark about people "cling[ing] to guns and religion" during the 2008 primaries certainly didn't help convince gun owners that he respected or understood them, and when he was elected, paranoia-fueled gun purchases surged. So it has been with great care and timidity...

Obama used the op-ed to call for "instant, accurate, comprehensive and consistent system for background checks" and better record-keeping to "stop the wrong people from getting their hands on a gun."

The plan for today's article had been to point out that more than six and a half weeks have passed since Jan. 27--the date, as discussed here, on which Newsweek had said that "in the next two weeks, the White House will unveil a new gun-control effort in which it will urge Congress to strengthen current laws . . . " The idea had been to point out that the noisiest, shrillest advocates of "gun control," who have not been shy about criticizing what they seem to perceive as President Obama's disregard for their agenda, haven't really made much noise...

A fundamental principle of a free people is the ability to transfer property to someone else without government intervention. In the case of firearms, it is often a tradition to pass on a gun from one generation to another. Recently a group called Mayors Against Illegal Guns co-chaired by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, commissioned a poll to determine how the public felt about tightening background checks on people that bought guns. It will come as little surprise that a group called Mayors Against Illegal Guns wants additional restrictive legislation on the already restrictive process and they even bought...

In an op-ed to the Arizona Daily Star President Barack Obama once again lived up to the mantra of "never let a crisis go to waste" by calling for new gun control measures. Seeking to capitalize off the shooting that killed six people and wounded 19, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ), Obama decided to blame society for the acts of a a lone whackjob lunatic. His op-ed is very slick, seeking to acknowledge no desire to take away guns or to repeal the 2nd Amendment: "Now, like the majority of Americans, I believe that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual...

More than two months after the Tucson shootings, the administration is calling together both the gun lobby and gun safety groups to find common ground. But President Obama has no plans to take the lead in proposing further gun control legislation, aides say, and the nation’s major gun rights group is snubbing the invitation. On Tuesday, officials at the Justice Department will meet with gun control advocates in the first of what will be a series of meetings over the next two weeks with people on different sides of the issue, including law enforcement, retailers and manufacturers, to seek agreement...

President Obama on Sunday called for gun-rights advocates and proponents of gun control to find common ground two months after the shooting which killed six people and wounded 13 others, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.). The Arizona Daily Star published an op-ed by Obama on Sunday calling for stronger restrictions on gun sales to buyers suspected of mental instability. “A man our Army rejected as unfit for service; a man one of our colleges deemed too unstable for studies; a man apparently bent on violence, was able to walk into a store and buy a gun,” Obama wrote of Jared...

Suppose you or your family are being stalked by a criminal who intends to harm you. Would you feel safer putting a sign in front of your home saying "This home is a gun-free zone"? Would it frighten criminals away? Most people understand that guns deter criminals. But, despite strong opposition from the Illinois State Police, Democrat Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan seems determined to publicly identify gun and non-gun owners across the state. For some unknown reason, The Associated Press made a Freedom of Information Act request to the police. One would think that people in Illinois of all...

A-T-F- says since they initiated "Project Gun Runner" which is tracing weapons, their prosecutions have gone up 50 percent and their investigations up 109%. He also says a recent program called e-trace, an electronic database that can trace the manufacture, import, sale and ownership of guns will be helpful here in the U-S as well as in Mexico.

In the wake of the new Supreme Court decision on the 2nd Amendment, we have this illuminating story from Ohio and if this isn't the perfect example of why American gun owners fear detailed firearm owners registration records in the hands of government officials there isn't one to be had. Ohio's State Democrat Party recently sent a letter to every county sheriff's office demanding that sheriffs send them the names and addresses of all concealed carry permit holders in their county. There is, of course, only one possible reason that these Democrats wanted this information. Democrats wanted to harass these...

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Omaha will likely be forced to stop requiring those with concealed-carry gun permits to register their firearms with the city. On Thursday, lawmakers gave final approval to a bill (LB817) that would stop the practice in Omaha. Gov. Dave Heineman must now decide whether to sign the measure. The approval of the bill follows an opinion from Attorney General Jon Bruning's office that Omaha has been violating state law by forcing people who have permits to carry concealed guns to also register their guns...

A California Democrat is proposing a new law requiring residents to register their shotguns and rifles or go to jail, CBSNews.com has learned. Assemblyman Mike Feuer, whose district includes Beverly Hill and West Hollywood, this week introduced legislation ordering law enforcement to "permanently keep" records of anyone who buys a gun from a dealer or an individual. California already stores information about handgun purchases. Feuer is no friend of firearms owners: his previous legislative effort, which Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law, required all new handguns to include "microstamping" technology that can imprint serial numbers on spent ammunition casings. As...

I just received an email from a friend regarding something new on the 2009 Federal IRS Tax Return requiring all gun owners to disclose all firearms they own. It claimed that this was verified by Snopes. The email claims it was snuck in under a list of minor regulatory changes to the IRS laws and signed off without being read by the Congress Critters.According to the email, all gun owners would need to pay a registration fee of $50 per firearm and also would require that the owners be fingerprinted. It seems far-fetched, but I wouldn't put it past the pResident. Has...

·11250 Waples Mill Road · Fairfax, Virginia 22030 ·800-392-8683 Registration & Licensing 5th Amendment, Self-Incrimination, & Gun Registration 5th Amendment, Self-Incrimination, & Gun Registration by Clayton E. Cramer A recurring question that we are asked, not only by gun control advocates, but even by a number of gun owners is, "What`s wrong with mandatory gun registration?" Usually by the time we finish telling them about the Supreme Court decision U.S. v. Haynes (1968), they are laughing -- and they understand our objection to registration. In Haynes, a Miles Edward Haynes appealed his conviction for unlawful possession of an unregistered short-barreled...
