What we're looking at is the sudden flareup of fascism in the form of what really should be looked at as an invading army. They come here, demand every entitlement known to man, hate this country, and want to turn the American Southwest into an annex of Mexico, as opposed to becoming Americans. And they're spouting this bogus racial claim to the land, with the hope of going back to a mythical time that never was. La Raza = The Race = Der Volk. What irks me the most is that we do not have leaders who will call a spade a spade, in both this case and with Jihadic fascism.

They're baaack. Illegal alien public relations experts are advising their followers to put aside the Mexican flags and tone down their radicalism, but many reconquistadors and their friends can't help themselves. Hat tip to John A. for the protest photos today from Dallas:

The Dallas Morning News also reported that counter-protesters were assaulted and forced to leave under police protection:

Police told counterprotesters that they could protect them only to a point, and offered to escort them out through an underground parking lot. Six people left with police who were carrying shields and wearing helmets and shin pads.
“They’re obviously outnumbered here. If they choose to leave, we can arrange that,” said Dallas police Lt. William Humphrey.
Miles Walters, 16, a sophomore at Richardson High School, said he was scared when people started throwing water bottles and hunkered under a building for protection. “I wasn’t expecting it to be this bad,” he said. “Because we take pride in our country they hate us and call us racist.”

A small group of counterprotesters shouted from a parking lot at Ross Avenue and Harwood Street: “USA, USA, You’re gonna go home, you’re gonna go home.”
Said Elijah McGrew, 48: “They are breaking the law and no one should get amnesty. If I break the law, I don’t get amnesty.”
Also in the group was Ben Blewusi, who said he came to the U.S. legally from Ghana in 2004.
“Illegal immigration is a crime in every country. I believe they are a drain on the economy and don’t pay taxes, and employers take advantage of them and enslave their labor. And as a result it drives down wages for legal migrants and U.S. citizens,” Mr. Blewusi said.
Near City Hall, more than 100 chanting protesters broke off from the main march and headed toward another group of counterprotesters. Police moved in around the counterprotesters, some of whom had hurled plastic water bottles at the large procession.

Another round of pro-illegal immigration demonstrations is scheduled to take place tomorrow. One of the groups organizing tomorrow's demonstrations is a Communist organization called International A.N.S.W.E.R. A.N.S.W.E.R., which has championed every tyrant from Kim Il John to Fidel Castro to Saddam Hussein, has now taken up the cause of illegal immigration, and was the principal organizer of the massive demonstration in southern California a week or two ago. Unfortunately for A.N.S.W.E.R., the meeting was attended by a couple of bloggers from Vital Perspective, who taped the meeting and reported on it on their site. They shared their audiotape of the proceedings with us, and we have posted a short excerpt on Power Line Video. There is no conundrum. Seal the borders, deport ALL the illegals here, revoke the citizenship of the anchor babies, impose stiff penalties against employers who hire illegals, reform the path to citizenship by requiring English proficency and knowledge of U.S. Civics. The only conundrum is what to do with the spineless politicians.

I had some fool say a wall that long would be to expensive to build and would be imposible.

Then I asked him if he noticed the miles and miles and miles of noise barrier walls they put up along the interstates in urban/suburban areas here in the north-east. Dead silence.

We can build walls at cost is no object prices to keep out noise, but if it might keep out an illegal allien or 2 its "impossible".

So, my Sony Handycam and I attended the illegal alien demonstration in D.C. yesterday. Here are some of the more interesting moments captured on tape:

The goofy, out-of-place-looking, non-Spanish speaker on the right was standing on a street corner with a bunch of astroturf "homemade" signs written in Spanish. He handed them out to Latino protesters on their way to the main venue on the Mall. I asked the sign guy what organization he was with and he stopped me from taping him. Off-camera he told me he didn't know where the signs came from (uh-huh) and that he had no idea what they said (that I believe). Watch the clip (.wmv file).

Some black radicals, fists a-waving, tried to get the protesters worked up: "Revolucion!" I was glad to hear the passers-by chuckling at the fools. Watch the clip.

Here's the Mall about an hour before the official start.

Spotted several bright yellow government school buses. (Didn't get it on tape, but as I was driving home I noted that one of the school buses shuttling protesters had "McLean, Va." painted on the side. Taxpayers in that town might want to give their school board a call. Another charter bus carrying marchers was owned by Crown.)

This was the scene near the front of the main stage. A lot of shoving and shouting and "Si, se puedes!" Watch the clip.

A protest organizer on the main stage led the crowd in English rehearsals of the Pledge of Allegiance. He definitely needed the practice: "One nation, undivisible (sic)..." Watch the clip.

Two of my favorite moments:

A few hapless SEIU organizers tried and failed to lead protesters streaming onto the mall with clumsily shouted Spanish chants...

...and another SEIU leader failed to get them to follow his traffic signals. Watch the clip.

Meanwhile, someone in the crowd targeted CNN's Lou Dobbs, bane of the open borders left and right.

And some bilingual LaRouchies turned up.

While the mainstream media focused on protesters who wrapped themselves in red, white, and blue...

...the inevitable Che cultists marched defiantly at the back of the pack. Watch the clip.

There were, of course, no identifiable ICE agents or any other DHS personnel in sight. All in all, it was a great day to be an illegal alien in the nation's capital. As these happy young protesters (perhaps earning school credit?) put it: "Viva La Raza!" Watch the clip.

#21,23 - Both posters have the same basic format and language in English and Spanish EXCEPT for the phrase in quotes in the lower-right. The Spanish phrase (I had to ask for translation) translates loosely as "A united people can never be defeated." Definitely doesn't correlate to the English version of the sign

There were several organizers who spoke declaring "Borders are not sacred. No Human being is illegal." Illegals are here "for one reason, to work" but were still "Good Americans." Local Latin Radio Station, 93.1, sent two DJs who addressed the protest almost entirely in Spanish. Rep. Serrano (D-NY) addressed the protest bilingually, declaring he emigrated illegally from the Dominican Republic in 1964. He also declared that illegals were true inheritors of the "American Dream," another popular meme. He finished by repeating "This is OUR Country" several times bilingually." Sen. Clinton spoke for about five minutes. She emphasized the importance of "the work YOU do." She also issued congratulatory "call-outs" to the stereotypical professions of illegals (housekeeping, landscaping, food service, construction, etc.) She also called for "comprehensive reform" of immigration law, briefly mentioning the Dem's typical talking point on national security that she wanted "to strengthen border security." Then a NY State Assemblymen whose name I did not catch, but who chairs their "Black, Latino, Asian Caucus," began to speak and I started my exit. I was just out of earshot by the time the next speaker got up.
All that said, the protest was a lot calmer than I expected, especially in comparison to the reports out of Dallas. I assume that's because La Raza isn't calling for New York to become part of Aztlan.

Not yet, anyway.

Almighty Allah Pundit was also in attendance and sent audio of the Democrat pandering speeches and open-borders entertainment.

Repost from the earlier illegal immigration thread. I’ll be on the border as a minuteman on April 20th through April 23rd. I’ll certainly blog about it when I get back. As a Hispanic minuteman it will be interesting if I get charged with racism, but since my Hoosier mother made me white I imagine I will. Wish my Dad had taught me to speak Spanish. There are a large percentage of Hispanics who oppose illegal immigration. When I showed a class I was training the upside-down flag they were outraged and appalled. Only one guy was white, the rest of the class was Mexican American. If the Dems thinks this pandering to the reconquista crowd is going to win them Hispanic votes they are taking a risky gamble. It would be better if they concentrated on the felon vote.

Demonstrations, From Coast to Coast

As an exercise in citizen journalism, we put out a call to readers to attend yesterday's demonstrations in support of illegal immigration, film them, and send us the resulting video. We didn't know what to expect, but the results were gratifying. We got lots of submissions, both of video and photographs. As a result, we've put together a Power Line Video of yesterday's rallies, from Seattle to Washington, D.C., which you can watch here.

In fact, as our video shows, the New York demonstration (like those in some other cities) was organized and controlled in substantial part by International A.N.S.W.E.R., the Communist organization that we have written about many times, most recently here. One of the reasons that the Claremont Review of Books is my favorite magazine is that each issue constitutes a virtual education in politics. Another of the reasons is that, consistent with the mission of the Claremont Institute, the CRB wages intellectual battle on behalf of the founding principles of the United States.

In one of the issue's feature essays, Victor Davis Hanson compares our Mexican immigration problem to that of France’s Muslim immigration problem. A rally worth attending

There will be a rally in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, April 23 calling on the federal government to secure our borders, enforce our immigration laws, and not grant amnesty to illegal aliens. Details are still being worked out.

THE KEY WORD HERE IS ILLEGAL--I talk to folks about this issue quite often. The folks I get to talk with are all working folks--I don't have any friends among the elite set. The prevailing majority of folks here that I talk to, both black and white, is opposed to what is currently going on and they are quite strong in their sentiment that we ought to ship these illegals back to Mexico, or wherever they came from. I suppose that makes all of us, blacks and whites, guilty of racism. After all, what do we know. All we do is work to pay the taxes for all this foolishness.

Legal vs illegal migrants: Finally, some numbers

The Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) finally gives us some numbers with which to work regarding immigration, legal and otherwise. The study is long and detailed but includes charts and graphs for those of you with shorter attention spans.

One of the big problems with this ongoing brouhaha over illegal immigration is the moral consideration versus the hard nosed number crunching. All we seemingly see and hear are the moral considerations and we don't get the numbers that we need to analyze the issue in an intelligent and responsible manner. This study goes a long way towards correcting that deficiency. What impresses me most about the study is that the CIS shows that the results of this study are remarkably similar to earlier studies done in 1997 by the National Research Council, in 2004 by the Inspector General's Office of the Department of Treasury, in 1998 by the Urban Institute, in 2001 by the state of Florida and in 1997 by the state of New Jersey.

Here are the conclusions from the Executive Summary of the report, (highlighting is mine):

Households headed by illegal aliens imposed more than $26.3 billion in costs on the federal government in 2002 and paid only $16 billion in taxes, creating a net fiscal deficit of almost $10.4 billion, or $2,700 per illegal household.
Among the largest costs are Medicaid ($2.5 billion); treatment for the uninsured ($2.2 billion); food assistance programs such as food stamps, WIC, and free school lunches ($1.9 billion); the federal prison and court systems ($1.6 billion); and federal aid to schools ($1.4 billion).
With nearly two-thirds of illegal aliens lacking a high school degree, the primary reason they create a fiscal deficit is their low education levels and resulting low incomes and tax payments, not their legal status or heavy use of most social services.
On average, the costs that illegal households impose on federal coffers are less than half that of other households, but their tax payments are only one-fourth that of other households.
Many of the costs associated with illegals are due to their American-born children, who are awarded U.S. citizenship at birth. Thus, greater efforts at barring illegals from federal programs will not reduce costs because their citizen children can continue to access them.
If illegal aliens were given amnesty and began to pay taxes and use services like households headed by legal immigrants with the same education levels, the estimated annual net fiscal deficit would increase from $2,700 per household to nearly $7,700, for a total net cost of $29 billion.
Costs increase dramatically because unskilled immigrants with legal status -- what most illegal aliens would become -- can access government programs, but still tend to make very modest tax payments.
Although legalization would increase average tax payments by 77 percent, average costs would rise by 118 percent.
The fact that legal immigrants with few years of schooling are a large fiscal drain does not mean that legal immigrants overall are a net drain -- many legal immigrants are highly skilled.
The vast majority of illegals hold jobs. Thus the fiscal deficit they create for the federal government is not the result of an unwillingness to work.
The results of this study are consistent with a 1997 study by the National Research Council, which also found that immigrants' education level is a key determinant of their fiscal impact.

The CIS provides great detail in their methodology used to compile this report. It's pretty tough to argue with the conclusions based upon the evidence gathered. The fact that this report's results so closely mirror other reports done over the past 12 years which have seemingly been ignored by both side in this fight means that this report's conclusions will probably be ignored as well.

Maybe we can look at it like this:

Here is a part of the 500,000 who marched in Dallas. If we are very conservative, we might estimate that one-half of them, or 250,000 were illegal immigrants. Using the numbers from the CIS study, that would be at least $675,000,000 in your money walking around waving Mexican flags -- and that's under the current rules. If all of those people were made legal, you could expect to see $2 billion of your hard earned tax dollars waltzing around under the eagle-with-snake-on-a-cactus banner. And that's just in Dallas. Remember the march in Los Angeles last week? In Tucson? In Chicago? Millions of them marching in your streets costing you billions of dollars.

And the really discouraging part is that strict enforcement of the current rules, such as they are, to deny your tax dollars to illegal immigrants won't help the $2700 annual per-household deficit. Their American born children will still collect. If you folks in Dallas think that flushing $675 million per year is a damned sight better than $2 billion annually, call and write your congressman now.

What to do? That's a tough one. Do we have the political will to track down and evict 11 or 13 or 15 million illegal aliens and evict them and their native born American children out of the country? Don't make me laugh. Not even I would propose such a thing. I think that the best we can do is maintain the status quo with respect to illegals currently here. We need to enforce existing law. If they get caught, they have to leave. No more of that ridiculous "Catch-and-Release" currently being practiced. The House Republican proposal to make felons of illegal aliens is pretty dumb, too. If we do not currently toss out those that we catch, how does renaming them "felons" improve our chances?

About the best we can do is invest the funds necessary to enforce current law and to seal the border. We tell the Mexicans and any other government that starts bitching that when their immigration laws and citizenship requirements and treatment of legal and illegal aliens is consistent with ours, then maybe we'll talk . . . maybe.

Earlier this week, open borders L.A. mayor Antonio Villaraigosa gave a divisive speech on behalf of illegal alien protesters in which he declared:

"Today we say to America: We've come here to work: We clean your toilets. We clean your hotels. We build your houses. We take care of your children. We want you to help us take care of our children as well."

Many law-abiding L.A. residents who clean their own toilets took umbrage at Villaraigosa's McCain-like contempt for self-reliant Americans and his us-vs.-them militancy. Now, there's a campaign underway to answer Villaraigosa.

The Immigration Backlash

The massive demonstrations of the past few weeks of illegal immigrants and their supporters waving Mexican flags and supporting "la Raza" may have inspired some politicians, like Ted Kennedy, to maneuver themselves to the forefront of the movement for amnesty, attempting to pander to the show of force that the protestors intended. However, it appears from electoral polling that the same demonstrations have propelled hard-line border-security politicians to greater popularity as the protests and their demands for benefits repelled a large segment of the existing electorate: Comments (29) |--Have had many conversations over the past few weeks among members of both parties out here in flyover country, and the consensus is seal the border first...then refuse to vote for any candidate who is unwilling to take that first logical step...and put their name loudly behind such legislation.
