I’m late to relay what Politico reported this morning:
HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says the Obama administration plans to issue a rule “in the near future” on its compromise plan on contraception coverage and is meeting with insurers, clergy and health leaders to get feedback on how to make it work.
“We’ve begun outreach. I have talked to Catholic health leaders, I’m reaching out to priests. We’re also talking to union leaders, we’re talking to our partners at labor who run the self-insured plans to figure out a strategy,” Sebelius told reporters at a conference in D.C. on Tuesday.
One obvious conclusion to take from this is that our combined pressure on the administration has forced Sebelius and Obama to move faster than they had originally hoped. After all, they would prefer to delay any actual compromise until after the election. And then, who knows what they will do. They certainly won’t be worried as much about losing the Catholic vote.
Second, and far more revealing, is who Sebelius is leaving out of these talks: bishops.
She claims to be talking to “Catholic health leaders” (i.e., Carol Keehan of CHA, as usual), “priests” (hmm, I bet I know which ones) and … not bishops, not the USCCB, not heads of Catholic universities or major institutions but …
“union leaders.” and:
“our partners at labor who run the self-insured plans.”
She means the union leaders who have had their self-insured plans exempted form Obamacare’s mandates through special favors and waivers, at the same time as a huge number of Catholic dioceses and employers who also self-insure are required to follow the mandate.
How incredible. Since when did union leaders become the “real” leaders of the Catholic Church?!

One should remember that this is merely a temporary rule and when the election is over it could easily be changed again.Under Obamacare the director makes all the rules.
Carol Keehan certainly seems very comfortable with selling her soul to the devil. How do these people live with themelves?
This is the bishops’own fault because they have ceded their teaching authority to others for decades now, through their failure either to preach and teach the truth themselves or their failure to correct or suppress people who are publicly teaching untruths.
I think it’s vitally important that they get this authority back, but I’m not sure how they’re going to do it.
Just get rid of Obamacare...period...and watch the market take off. I wouldn’t be surprised if Obama himself erased it....in mid October.
And because they handed King Obama the power to make such decrees, as long as he promised them a special royal exemption.
Sebelius Excludes Bishops From Obamacare Mandate Compromise Talks
There can be no compromise on the tenets of one’s faith. This is as true for the Catholic church as it is for those bitter clingers of socialism and fascism.
The admin is seriously underestimating Cardinal Dolan, who very much seems to be the right man raised up at the right time. This ain’t over yet, folks. Time for prayer and popcorn.
I am glad the bishops are excluded. And, I would hope, if they were invited, they would refuse the invitation to “compromise.” The church has no business sitting at the table with these bureaucrats, whose policies for the public are in direct opposition to church teaching. The church has a huge credibility problem now because of all the cooperation with Big Government in health and education. Now the church will pay the price for all those federal funds received.
Agreed. And I have to ask; how is it that for the 2nd time, Sister Carol Keehan is in a position which allowed her to betray the Catholic faith and undermine the authority of the bishops? Why is this nun still the head of the CHA? This nun reports to someone in the HIERARCHY...first her order superior and then ultimately to a bishop. She should have been removed her from her post after her initial support of the healthcare legislation. The USCCB had a large hand in bringing this down on the heads of all US Catholics by being all for “universal Healthcare” and becoming willing dupes of the liar in chief.
Sebelius is going to have a bit of trouble talking to the bishops. She can’t even approach her own the way she probably wants to. She’s been instructed by him not to approach the altar for Holy Communion, and that situation isn’t new. She’s set in her ways over this.
