THE DECLINE OF HILLARY CLINTON: THE DYNAMICS
Luntz Maslansky Strategic Research presented its findings on the '08 Dem field this a.m. to reporters at a Christian Science Monitor breakfast.
Their focus groups tested Dem primary voters in NH and IA....
Support for Hillary Clinton "disappeared by the time the night was over, and she won virtually no new converts. Only Edwards faired worse."
ON REJIGGING GALLUP'S LOSING NUMBERS FOR HILLARY
But there are a number of verbal and visual intangibles [They seem pretty tangible to me!] that clearly undermine her presentation, her image, and eventually her support. As with many women in public life, her looks and presentation account for a disproportionate percentage of the reactions she elicits."
More; "The tape of Sen. Clinton that we showed in New Hampshire was not a stump speech but rather a public sit-down interview with Jane Pauley in San Francisco conducted earlier this year. This should have been to her advantage. Maybe it was the interview format that kept her from building momentum, but our primary voter audience was not very impressed.
THE POLITICS OF DUMPING HILLARY (see post 53)
It precedes them: IRS audits (Where IS that unredacted Barrett Report already... and why was it REALLY redacted in the first place?), raw FBI files, trashed reputations, intimidation--both verbal and physical, and, oh yes, the deaths. It matters not one whit whether each and every item on this list is true. That it could be true is sufficient threat: Perception--reputation--IS reality.
So it is not surprising that it took the better part of a year for the Left to summon the courage to dump hillary. Dumping hillary is not a reversible act, you see. Dump hillary and you're on her hit list. For life. Yours... which won't be long and happy if hillary retakes the White House and her repertoire of revenge is for real....
So dumping hillary is not your ordinary finger-in-the-air, go-with-the-flow tactical maneuver. It is a lifetime commitment.
Chris Matthews, David Geffen, Mike McCurrey and Leon Panetta were on the front lines making that commitment. They had the guts to dump hillary before dumping hillary was de rigueur.
It is not that they understood hillary clinton is a dud and everyone else on the Left did not. Everyone knows hillary clinton is a dud. It is that they put loyalty to party above loyalty to the clintons, and had the courage to act on that loyalty.
GEFFEN UNLOADS ON HILLARY: 'SHE CAN'T WIN'
Sen. Hillary Clinton should not count on help from Hollywood mogul David Geffen in her possible run for the White House.
Geffen, who was a generous supporter and pal of Bill Clinton when he was president, trashed Hillary's prospects last night during a Q&A at the 92nd St. Y in New York City.
"She can't win, and she's an incredibly polarizing figure," the billionaire Democrat told his audience. "And ambition is just not a good enough reason."
Lloyd Grove reports in fresh editions of the NY DAILY NEWS the audience broke with "hearty applause" over Geffen's comments.

Too many pundits, usually leftist and privileged, sneer at country music. To these critics, any music created by poor, Southern whites (at least those poor, Southern whites who didn't attend an Ivy League university) must be held in contempt, along with its correlatives: incest, racism and trailer parks.
Hillary Clinton? Who would even know her name were it not for her attachment to a man? Where would she be now if she as a child had to pick cotton from sun up to sun down?
Tammy Wynette stands alone, a legend; and she will be admired wherever people appreciate the honesty of the human experience. Human beings are vulnerable. We all should be thankful to any artist courageous enough to bare her soul on the public stage so the rest of us who are listening and know whereof she speaks might benefit.
G. K. Chesterton
... While America appears not to be ready for a female president under any circumstances, the post-9/11 realities pose special problems for a female presidential candidate. Add to these the problems unique to missus clinton. The reviews make the mistake of focusing on the problems of the generic female presidential candidate running during ordinary times.
These are not ordinary times. America is waging the global War on Terror; the uncharted territory of asymmetric netherworlds is the battlefield; the enemy is brutal, subhuman; the threat of global conflagration is real.
Defeating the enemy isn't sufficient. For America to prevail, she must also defeat a retrograde, misogynous mindset. To successfully prosecute the War on Terror, it is essential that the collective patriarchal islamic culture perceives America as politically and militarily strong. Condi Rice excepted, this requirement presents an insurmountable hurdle for any female presidential candidate, and especially missus clinton, historically antimilitary--(an image, incidentally, that is only enhanced today by her clumsy, termagant parody of Thatcher), forever the pitiful victim, and, according to Dick Morris, "the biggest dove in the clinton administration."
It is ironic that had the clintons not failed utterly to fight terrorism... not failed to take bin Laden from Sudan... not failed repeatedly to decapitate a nascent, still stoppable al Qaeda... the generic female president as a construct would still be viable... missus clinton's obstacles would be limited largely to standard-issue clintonisms: corruption, abuse, malpractice, malfeasance, megalomania, rape and treason... and, in spite of Juanita Broaddrick, or perhaps because of her, Rod Lurie would be reduced to perversely hawking the "First Gentleman" instead of the "Commander-in-Chief."

Hillary Clinton's revisionist tome notwithstanding, 'living history' begets a certain symmetry. It is in that light that I make this not-so-modest proposal on this day, exactly 64 years after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
The context of our concern today--regardless of political affiliation--is Iraq and The War on Terror, but the larger fear is that our democracy may not survive.
We have the requisite machines, power and know-how to defeat the enemy in Iraq and elsewhere, but do we have the will?
In particular, do we have the will to identify and defeat the enemy in our midst?
Answerable to no one, heir apparent in her own mind, self-serving in the extreme, Hillary Clinton incarnates this insidious new threat to our survival.
What we decide to do about Missus Clinton will tell us much about what awaits us in these perilous new times.

The problem for Clinton is that she starts with such high expectations. Democrats expect her to be smart, and she delivers. [Suffice it to say, this observation says more about Democrat 'smarts.' ] They expect her to be tough, and she delivers. [There is a difference between being a scold and being tough. Missus knownothing victim clinton is the very definition of weak.]
When we showed a stump speech to the group in Iowa their reactions weren't much better. Focusing on the year 2020 was an innovative approach, [for a clinton, for sure. The clintons always focus on 'today' and on 'clinton'] but she never explained how she plans to get there." [And that's a surprise?]

Clinton Administration Veteran:
"Hillary Rodham Clinton needs to be kept very far away from the White House for the rest of her life."
My two cents' worth--and I think it is the two cents' worth of everybody who worked for the Clinton Administration health care reform effort of 1993-1994--is that Hillary Rodham Clinton needs to be kept very far away from the White House for the rest of her life. Heading up health-care reform was the only major administrative job she has ever tried to do. And she was a complete flop at it. She had neither the grasp of policy substance, the managerial skills, nor the political smarts to do the job she was then given. And she wasn't smart enough to realize that she was in over her head and had to get out of the Health Care Czar role quickly.... there is no reason to think that she would be anything but an abysmal president.

Interesting, and insightful, analysis of the wagering data.
I fear the candidacy of HRC, in part because if she can find a way to grab the nomination, her agents will be ruthless in disciplining all of her current left of center doubters and detractors, with dire threats of what four or eight more years of rule by the evangelist right will mean to them, and the MSN will accomodate her rehabilitiation.
Clearly we have reached a time in history where the stakes are enormous and the differences and motives stark. HRC is just one of the mob of leftist ghouls haunting the corridors of political power, and willing to sell out everything American to obtain power, in order to re configure society in the image of European socialism, with hate speech laws, equal time rules for talk radio, confiscatory taxation for the talented, and mandatory handicaped parking in the fist ten rows of every parking lot in America. You know, for all the hybrids, and bicycles, and solar powered balsa scooters we'll be driving.
I think we are now approaching the climatic battle with the baby boom left. They are all evil. HRC is just one that we have a lot of data on.
hillary is an old, angry, screeching, lying, power hungry, woman who lusts to be the first woman President of the United States.
Republicans must get a good!! strong!!! honest!!!! candidate out there or we will be looking at a hillary/bill as the next President(s) of the United States.
"You don't need papers for voting."
Busby was not wrong.
The clinton MOTOR VOTER BILL brought us that!!
It is against the LAW to ask anyone if they are an American citizen.
A non citizen applies for a drivers license and part of the paper work received is an application to register to vote. On that form it is asked -- Are you a US citizen...yes_____....no_____ . That is the only time a person will be asked and his reply can not be questioned.
This was told to me in 94-95 while renewing my license. I had heard about this and aked the man helping me. With close to tears in his eyes he related the rules.
Ask yourself - why would a President do this to his country. Not because he is a good guy and wanted every one to feel welcome. Oh no!! this was done to get votes, plain and simple!!
I think we are now approaching the climatic battle with the baby boom left. They are all evil. HRC is just one that we have a lot of data on.--Gail Wynand
They are all evil, but, IMO, the clinton kind of evil differs from the rest in both kind and degree.
"They are all evil, but, IMO, the clinton kind of evil differs from the rest in both kind and degree"
True.
Periodically, one sees a news story in the crime section of a local paper, serial, inhuman acts of cruelty and then, frequently, homicide against innocent and previously unknown victims, perpetrated by a male - female couple. The question arises upon reading of same, how do they find each other, these criminal, sociopathic pairs? Do they have a secret handshake? Does one corrupt the other? It turns out though we have a pretty good model, at least if HRC is to be believed. "Chemistry" in the Yale Law School Library is apparently an adequate breeding ground for sociopathic co-conspiracy. Clearly his charisma was the antidote to her self loathing and sheer ugly looks. Not until Juanita Broadricks story was fully told, however, could one see what he saw in Hillary, a cover story, accomplice after the fact, etc. Interesting that he could see her infinite potential for amorality as long ago as Yale.
Here comes the reinvention again. What will it be this time?

AN OPEN LETTER TO HILLARY CLINTON SUNDAY OCT 15, 2000
As I watched Rick Lazio's interview on Fox News this morning, I felt compelled to write this open letter to you, Mrs. Clinton. Brit Hume asked Mr. Lazio's views regarding you as a person and how he perceived you as a candidate. Rick Lazio did not answer the question, but I know that I can. You know it, too. I have no doubt that you are the same conniving, self-serving person you were twenty-two years ago when I had the misfortune to meet you. When I see you on television, campaigning for the New York senate race, I can see the same hypocrisy in your face that you displayed to me one evening in 1978. You have not changed. I remember it as though it was yesterday. I only wish that it were yesterday and maybe there would still be time to do something about what your husband, Bill Clinton, did to me. There was a political rally for Mr. Clinton's bid for governor of Arkansas. I had obligated myself to be at this rally prior to my being assaulted by your husband in April, 1978. I had made up my mind to make an appearance and then leave as soon as the two of you arrived. This was a big mistake, but I was still in a state of shock and denial. You had questioned the gentleman who drove you and Mr. Clinton from the airport. You asked him about me and if I would be at the gathering. Do you remember? You told the driver, "Bill has talked so much about Juanita", and that you were so anxious to meet me. Well, you wasted no time. As soon as you entered the room, you came directly to me and grabbed my hand. Do you remember how you thanked me, saying "we want to thank you for everything that you do for Bill". At that point, I was pretty shaken and started to walk off. Remember how you kept a tight grip on my hand and drew closer to me? You repeated your statement, but this time with a coldness and look that I have seen many times on television in the last eight years. You said, "Everything you do for Bill". You then released your grip and I said nothing and left the gathering. What did you mean, Hillary? Were you referring to my keeping quiet about the assault I had suffered at the hands of your husband only two weeks before? Were you warning me to continue to keep quiet? We both know the answer to that question. Yes, I can answer Brit Hume's question. You are the same Hillary that you were twenty years ago. You are cold, calculating and self-serving. You cannot tolerate the thought that you will soon be without the power you have wielded for the last eight years. Your effort to stay in power will be at the expense of the state of New York. I only hope the voters of New York will wake up in time and realize that Hillary Clinton is not an honorable or an honest person. I will end by asking if you believe the statements I made on NBC Dateline when Lisa Myers asked if I had been assaulted and raped by your husband? Or perhaps, you are like Vice-President Gore and did not see the interview.

After Juanita Broaddrick made the accusation in 1999, [Clinton]'s attorney, David Kendall, alone answered, saying any such charges were "absolutely false." Of course, attorney Robert Bennett believed... Clinton when he said he hadn't had sex with Monica Lewinsky and defended the president then on no toss sturdy grounds. Thus while lawyers can spare Mr. Clinton awkward moments at the podium in which he has to say, "I did not have sex with that woman, Miss Lewinsky" or "I did not fondle that woman, Kathleen Wlley" or "I did not rape that woman, Mrs. Broaddrick," their comments are, in effect, non-denial denials. Given the silence from the West Wing, Mrs. Broaddrick this week sought answers from Hillary Clinton, whose telescopic feminism apparently sees injustice to women everywhere except the kind which occurs closer to home. In a letter to Mrs. Clinton recalling their meeting shortly after the reported assault occurred, she wondered about the significance of Mrs. Clinton's words to her at that time. Thank you, Mrs. Broaddrick says Mrs. Clinton told her, for "everything you do for Bill." "What did you mean, Hillary?" her letter continued. "Were you referring to my keeping quiet about the assault I had suffered at the hands of your husband only two weeks before? Were you warning me to keep quiet?" The not-so-subtle implication of the letter is that Mrs. Clinton is, in fact, her husband's enabler. Dealing with her husband's promiscuity and worse might keep her from dealing with the important issues facing the people of New York, namely her candidacy. One might call it a Faustian bargain except that even Mephistopheles might not lower himself to sign such a deal....
