Free Republic "Bump List" Register

This register is temporary. The new forum software has a much better way of handling such lists. I've created this register as an interim solution. Later, I will use this list to populate the new forum software.

I think there are two prayer lists. One is for the prayer request thread, and one is for the list that prays specifically for President Bush and the nation. DittoJed2 is in charge of the "Pray for President Bush" thread.

A little more about what a bump list is:

Bump lists are collections of articles of a given topic. To get a listing of such articles, you search the forum by putting to:"bump_list" in the search field. Replace bump_list with the name of the list you are interested in. Alternatively, visit the register and click a name.

When you find an article you believe may be of interest to a particular bump list, simply post a reply, adding the name of the bump list into the "To" field of the reply.

That article will now be indexed for your bump list.

John, I think the abortion list and the "pro-life list" should be the "Pro_life" bump list. Its used less right now with all the recent events, but its been established for a while.

Do you want those of us who keep old fashioned bump lists (lists of screen names) to register them as well?

If you post a reply, then immediatley look at the list of replies, your reply will of course be listed at the top at that moment. Hence, "Bump to the Top", "BTTT," or "Bump"--signifying that the reply is for purposes of attracting attention to the thread, more than or to the exclusion of any substantive comment.

John Rob is announcing a way to call a thread to the attention of a pre-defined group of screen names of people whom the bumping individual hopes will be interested.

EXCELLENT explanation!

A "bump_list" is like an "imaginary FReeper" whose interests I would like to follow.
There is no need for a "lowbridge_list" because there is already a REAL (sort of) lowbridge that I can "follow around" by searching for Articles + Replies addressed to:lowbridge - that SOMEONE thought he should see, like THIS reply. ;)

Now, you can "follow around" the posts addressed to:bang_list etc., as well.

You can't sign up for these lists. All you can do is search for them. Best way to do that is click the name on the bump-list page.
