The GOP's Limbaugh Dilemma

The headline should read

The GOP's Conservative dilemma.

The key statistic that all these blowhards are ignoring is just upstream here. 61% believe that the US gummint CAN go bankrupt. That will soon turn to IS going bankrupt. The conservative values that Rush has uncompromisingly elaborated for decades now will be what we rebuild on, not the "gummint will fix everything AND wipe the baby's ass" when it is clear the gummint can't wipe it's own ass. Just stay healthy and survive the Big Bump and then we reboot to 1776.

We went through this crap during the Klinton years. Many of us decided at that time that the 2nd Amendment is actually a "tripwire" for liberty. "You can't trust a politician with your vote if he doesn't trust you with a gun." Made a lot of sense then and it does now. "If it is time to bury them, it is time to use them."

To change the subject for a moment consider this, the Porkulus Bill we objected to so much recently. Most of the spending is several years from now. The rate that our economy is failing there won't BE a U.S. gummint by then. So what the hell does that bill matter?

Back on subject. What the hell does a gun law matter? Let them pass whatever damn law they want. Anybody with a brain HAS the things they need. All we have to do is survive the chaos that is coming and rebuild from the ground up with the original government the Founders put in place over 200 years ago. Sort of a "system reset". At this point Zero and Pelousy and COmpany can pound sand because nothing they do is gonna matter a bit.

Is Obama Breaking His Vow Of Transparency?

The White House claims that President Obama's administration will be "the most open and transparent in history,"

He wants to claim transparency... He can start by producing his real birth records. Then, if he is still President, he can turn over transcripts of all emails and messages he has gotten on his blackberry. He uses that while he is on our time, then it becomes official business. Can we make FOIA request for it?

Obama will never, ever do either of these of course. He's breaking his promises to the American people left and right - mostly left.

End the wars: not happening.

Bipartisan: "I won" and crams porkus down our throats.

In short, he is a liar and a socialist cannot be trusted at all. I do not think he has America's best interests at heart. I think he has his own best interests as his number one priority, followed closely by his idiotic socialist vision for America.

Elect a crazy council, get crazy results (Detroit/New Zimbabwe council meeting: "Whites Go Home")

It's out in the open now, racism against whites is OK and the derigour (I have no idea how to spell that, but it's a neat word) thing to do these days.

Robert Reich is on You Tube saying that for projects across the country that whites need not apply.

Also that they don't want to give the jobs to "high skilled people that are already professionals or to WHITE MALE construction workers", he wants the jobs to go to the "long term unemployed minorities" not "high skilled professionals", see Video called "Explosive Video Reich, Obamas economic advisor no "White Male Construction Workers"

He states this needs to be done fast, so it looks like there will not be time to train these welfare slackers.

Therefore the schools, bridges etc will be built by those with no knowledge of how to do it.

What Fresh New Horror Comes Our Way?

...One Obama appointee after another hold views that have little relationship to reality despite their academic resumes. Steven Chu, the new Secretary of Energy, is on record saying the coal threatens the environment. Obama’s science advisor, John Holdren, in the 1980s was predicting massive famines because of global warming. It’s one thing to be wrong. It’s another to be wrong and to hold a high level government position.

Other advisors, those men and women who help set policy, are a frightening collection of dedicated socialists and totally loony environmentalists. His most recent proposed addition, Charles W. From Acorn To AIG

Meltdown.

Meltdown

This is the private switching system, utilized by the Federal Reserve, that performs electronic financial transfers.

This is the vault that holds sixty billion of the taxpayers' dollars, which moved to an account owned by American International Group (AIG).

This is troubled insurance giant AIG, a company whose financial instruments undergird much of the world's financial system.

This is an eight-year stock chart of AIG, laid low by the collapse of housing giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and which requires tens of billions in taxpayer bailouts.

This is housing giant Fannie Mae, described by pundits as a "job shop for out-of-work Democrats."

This is Fannie Mae's stock price, the collapse of which devastated the capital-to-asset ratios of banks and insurance companies like AIG (which held five billion dollars in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac equities).

These are Democratic operatives Franklin Raines, Jamie Gorelick and Jim Johnson, the executive management team of Fannie Mae, all of whom were awarded positions after loyal service in the Clinton administration.

These are the pay packages the Democrats awarded themselves, through undeserved bonuses, immense salaries and incentive payments, all based upon pushing huge numbers of subprime loans through Fannie Mae.

These are the total campaign contributions ("investments") Fannie Mae executives made to Democratic Senators Chris Dodd, Barack Obama and John Kerry in order to "fix" federal regulation.

This is a list of the attempts made by the Bush administration starting in 2001 to rein in the out-of-control spending frenzy by Fannie and Freddie.

This is one such hearing in 2004 (YouTube video available), wherein Republicans demanded additional oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac because of the GSEs' rampant accounting scandals, inadequate capital reserves, inappropriate bonuses and hundreds of billions in low-income, no documentation mortgages.

This is Maxine Waters (D-CA), complaining that there is no crisis at Fannie and Freddie; and that attempts to audit the GSEs simply disenfranchise the poor by preventing them from getting subprime mortgages.

This is Barney Frank (D-MA), claiming that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are fine and that oversight is not needed.

These are other Democratic members of Congress.

Each of whom resisted call after call after call to regulate the GSEs, falsely blaming racism, hatred of the poor and redlining -- all on a straight party line.

This is Chris Dodd (D-CT), the powerful member of the Senate Banking Committee, who threatened filibuster after filibuster over additional regulation of the mortgage market (while accepting funds and sweetheart mortgages from the very organizations he was supposed to be regulating).

These are the organizations that profited from subprime mortgages, sold to unqualified individuals -- even those without documentation of citizenship, income or assets -- knowing they could sell the loans to the GSEs. For example, Fannie even accepted a $700,000 mortgage application from a migrant with an annual income of $14,000.

This is President Clinton signing the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), which forced banks to write low-income, zero documentation loans. These loans would then be purchased by Fannie and Freddie and securitized for sale to other financial institutions.

These are the community agitators -- primarily organized through ACORN -- who falsely accused banks of "redlining" (failing to offer mortgages to the urban poor). These groups would pack bank lobbies and harrass customers and employees in order to intimidate the institutions and force the government to strengthen the CRA.

This is the community agitator and ACORN attorney named Barack Obama, who sued Citibank in 1994; one of hundreds of nuisance lawsuits filed by ACORN and its affiliates to loosen mortgage underwriting standards.

These are the Democrats who profited at every step of the mortgage meltdown while blaming George W. Bush for the crisis, and whose continued oversight of the financial system is a disgrace and a mortal danger.

Update: Barney Frank's preemptive prosecution.

Update II: Unsupervised!?!

Tea Party on: Taxpayer revolts in Green Bay, Lafayette, Olathe, and Harrisburg; Plus: Live from Fullerton CA… “Recall the Taxinator!;” Arnie videotapes/DVDs smashes/shredded

By Michelle Malkin  •  March 7, 2009 06:16 PM

Scroll for updates…

The tax-paying rebels are not going away.

In Green Bay, Wisconsin, today an estimated 500 protesters gathered for a Tea Party at Titletown Brewing. Reader David has more at Pork Revolution:

Green Bay reader Natalie was also there. She e-mails a few more photos and a note:

Dear Michelle,

There were families there, big tough guys in their local union# jacket, young college age people, grandparents, single people, everyone was represented, everyone was middle-class. It was great to see and also, to KNOW that for every person who showed up at this Tea Party, there were probably 500 that couldn’t make it….kinda like roaches!

The signs were amazing and I am once again, hopeful for my country and for our way of life.

My parents came to this country (legally!) to escape socialism and I refuse to just let the Obamites walk all over us. I was so happy to see that even those who have enjoyed our freedoms for generations are not taking them for granted!

Thank you for everything you do to keep this country free!

Reader Earl sends a report from Olathe, KS, where an estimated 120 taxpayers came to raise their voices. A few pics:

And in Lafayette, LA, from reader Fred:

In Harrisburg, PA, hundreds more turned out today. And protesters underscored a theme hammered here over the past year — blasting Bush for pre-socializing the economy for Obama:

The event, organized by the Commonwealth Foundation, a politically conservative group, and two local radio talk show hosts, was called the “Harrisburg Tea Party.”

“These are people who believe in limited federal and state government, but who think government has overstepped its limited role in our lives,” said foundation President Matthew Brouillette.

Speakers and participants denounced both Republicans, such as former President George Bush and Sen. Arlen Specter, and Democrats, such as President Barack Obama and Gov. Ed Rendell.

They disliked Mr. Bush’s actions last fall to give federal money to banks that had made poisonous home loans, and criticized Mr. Obama for spending additional billions of taxpayer dollars to prop up General Motors and Chrysler, to help over-leveraged homeowners trying to avoid foreclosure and to help deficit-ridden states with his $787 billion economic stimulus program.

Glenn Reynolds has a good crowd pic from Harrisburg.

Reader Bonnie sends her Harrisburg pics:

Party on!

Reminder:

For new readers who are just learning about the protest movement and want to join, the best organizational resources are Tax Day Tea Party (nationwide April 15 events), Twitter #teaparty, PJTV’s list of upcoming protests, Re-TeaParty (send teabags to Washington and find July 4 events), and TCOT Report. And one more good one: New American Tea Party.

***

Update 6:23pm Eastern. There’s a big tax revolt protest just underway in Fullerton CA, spearheaded by KFI’s John & Ken. Liveblogging here.

Some of the signs in the crowd:

“Governor Schwarzenegger is a girly man!”
“Recall the Taxinator!”
“No on Poop 1A!”
“Been-A-Dick Arnold”
“How do Politicians Spell Pledge? L-I-E.”
“Born Free, Taxed to Death.”
“Effeminator”

Twitter user Sugar Jones is livetweeting the protest and reports that Schwarzengger’s videotapes and DVDs were sledgehammered and shredded.

California taxpayers are mad.

A commenter below says there’s a huge traffic jam in Fullerton caused by protesters trying to get to the venue. Packed.

PRESIDENTIAL POWERS: Obama Channels Cheney. Now there’s a surprise. . . .

UPDATE: HMM: “I think it’s worth noting that Rush Limbaugh, the infamous crazy-person to whom, according to the president, we listen only at our great peril, has been saying for weeks that Obama would adopt Bush’s national-security policies — especially in the area of secrecy — because Obama wants to take advantage of these very policies. Where does Rush come up with this nutty stuff?”

SO WILL THE ECONOMY WIND UP LOOKING LIKE Bretigne Shaffer’s predictions?

My prediction: By the end of Obama’s first four years in office, the US economy will be in much, much worse shape than it is now. Specifically:

1. The US will have massive inflation. The dollar will lose at least 50% of its value against most goods and services, and certainly against the goods and services most people use every day. This is a very conservative estimate. It will probably be much worse.

2. Unemployment in the US will be worse than it is now. It will be at least in the double digits.

THEY’RE CLAIMING 15,000 AT THE FULLERTON TEA PARTY RALLY:

It’s a lot...

IN THE KANSAS MEADOWLARK, a report on the third weekly Kansas City tea party protest.

Plus, from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Hundreds Protest Bailouts in Harrisburg:

HERE’S A REPORT ON YESTERDAY’S “TEA PARTY” PROTEST IN SALT LAKE CITY, from the Deseret News:

Conjuring the fighting spirit of the country’s founders, a large group of defiant protesters gathered on the west steps of the Capitol rotunda Friday for a “tea party” modeled after the Boston Tea Party of more than 200 years ago. . . . The event was part of what has become known as the Tea Party Movement, a series of rallies and demonstrations taking place in cities around the country to protest increased taxes, budget deficits, the recently passed federal stimulus package and trillion-dollar bailouts of the financial and auto industries. . . . Many in the crowd were there to prompt state lawmakers to pass HJR17, a joint resolution urging Congress to reject any future bailout legislation and stop spending money the federal government does not have.

Friday Night Fights: Pelosi Pounds Reid... Coulter Hands Olbermann His A$$

After another week of Obama Depression news, the Democratic Congressional Porkfest news, the Obama socialization news, etc. it was nice to find something to chuckle about besides Hillary's embarrassing Russian blooper.

First there was the news that Reid and Pelosi got into a swearing match while fighting for scraps from what once was an economy.
That audience with the Pope last week must have been really impactful... Huh, Nancy?

Then there was Ann Coulter handing Keith Olbermann his a$$ again, and again and again.
At least the entertainment is fun as we watch the Democrats ruin the country, appease the terrorists and flatten the economy.

I’m beginning to think that the only way for Obama to be relected would be for him to cancel the stimulus fiasco, completely take his hands off the economy, and let the bad banks and incompetent businesses fail. The economy might actually begin to recover within four years if government would stay the hell away.

But he won’t do that, and he will give Pelosi and Reid a free hand to accelerate the collapse and ruin.

I believe that important people know the truth about Obama’s birth status. I believe that the courts are being told not to hear the case. The word is “Do nothing ‘til you hear from me.”

I believe that if things get much worse in a few months, someone will be given the word to hear the case and that will be the out. He will be shown to have not been born a natural born citizen and blacks will be told that he wasn’t a real African American. He was a sham. That will prevent the riots. That will remove the imposter. That will remove the stain of America being a racist country. We all win. But then somebody has to fix the problem.

Also, perhaps the truth of the situation is what really keeps Obama up at night.

Obama Just Doesn't Get It

O only won by about 4%. I think there was a larger percent of conservatives that just stayed home because they had no real choice in the election. If the GOP gets there head out of their a$$ and runs a real conservative in the next election O and the dems will get destroyed. Only a small percent of Americans a really stupid.

Here in Toledo we have about a 15% unemployment rate and it is going to get far worse. One of my friends is a union painter and as of tomorrow his employer has no work even the hospitals do not have work for him at this time. As you can guess they a democrats because of the union. However they do not even want to talk politics because they know how bad they f up.

When unemployment is 20 to 25 percent here in 2 to 3 years, there is no way GWB can get the blame. The congress and O have created a economic mess that will last for years and is not even being fully felt yet. They have created a vicious downward cycle with the spending and the coming tax increases and the more they spend the worse it will get.

Lucky for me I worked very hard when GWB was in office and am now a RN. The economy is so bad here if you do not have a job as a nurse already it is hard to find one. This is not so in other parts of the country that are starving for RNs. I find myself in a position were I am able to stock up on food and water and I am buying one once silver coins just in case ( remember FDR confiscated the gold from the people not the silver). I am not being paranoid just prepared.

The faster the Dems push their socialism on the people the quicker the people will see it does not work, because more businesses will fail. The people will realize that they need business to work so they can eat. It is that simple.

THOUGHTS ON OBAMA, THE RIGHT, and being “tired.”

Plus, this:

I have this picture of President Obama sitting in the White House, thinking I hate my job. He was all about running for President. What did he really know about being President?

Less than he knows now, that’s for sure.

Teleprompter Jesus...

LOTS MORE TEA PARTY PROTEST NEWS rounded up here. Meanwhile, Tom Blumer complains of insufficient media coverage.

I suppose he’s got a point, but these protests are being well-covered in local media around the country. In terms of influencing Congress, I’d rather have a few hundred people march in each district than have a hundred thousand march in Washington, DC, even if the latter got a lot of coverage. Believe me, Green Bay congressman Steve Kagen knows there are people in his district who are upset, now. Getting 1,200 people who don’t usually protest to turn out and march on a Congressional office makes a point.

Meanwhile, here’s a blog report from Green Bay. And some more pictures.

UPDATE: Robert McManus emails: “How long . . . before the tea parties become yet another manifestation of America’s indelible racism? they seem to be getting a little traction, so it can’t be long.”

I don’t know. Let’s ask her:

A BLOG REPORT on the Lafayette, Louisiana tea party protest. And here’s a Flickr gallery.

A REPORT on the Monterey, California tea party protest:

A present-day version of the Boston Tea Party revolt took place at Monterey’s Window on the Bay Saturday, taking aim at the massive federal stimulus spending plan.

Demonstators brought American flags, tea bags, and even pig costumes to voice their anger over the stimulus plan, saying it is laden in pork-barrel spending and could trigger inflation. . . .

The watchdog group Taxpayers for Common Sense released it’s latest review of the spending plan earlier this week. In it, Central Coast congressman Sam Farr is listed as being a part of nearly $24 million dollars worth of earmarks, with more than $8 million credited to Farr alone.

More here. And here’s a blog report, with photos.

Plus, video:

TEA PARTY UPDATE: I’ve already mentioned Harrisburg and Fullerton, but now here’s a news report from Green Bay:

Hundreds of protesters gathered Saturday afternoon outside Titletown Brewing Co., replacing Boston Harbor with the Fox River for a Green Bay tea party to rally against government programs and federal bailouts. . . . Speakers at the rally included Marc Savard, who is running for the 8th Congressional District (to unseat incumbent U.S. Rep. Steve Kagen, D-Appleton) and WTAQ talk show host Jerry Bader.

Though coined as a taxpayer rally, taxes aren’t the only issue at hand, Bader said, it’s also about having a government that allows citizens to be self-reliant.

“Conservatism is based on I’ll take care of me, you take care of you. … This is often translated to mean we’re not compassionate — nothing could be further from the truth,” Bader said.

“Picking my pocket and deciding what’s compassion, is not compassion. When you are forced to be compassionate at the barrel of a gun, we have a word for that, it’s robbery.”

The mass of protesters marched into downtown Green Bay to bring their message to Kagen at his office at 700 E. Walnut St.

Michael Litscher has posted a photo set on Flickr. Here’s one. “Don’t Spread My Wealth: Spread My Work Ethic.”

Plus, video:

Formerly, the “highest form of patriotism,” now the preserve of “domestic terrorist wannabes.” Boy, things sure change with an election!

“This party atmosphere sends the wrong message”

By Michelle Malkin  •  March 7, 2009 11:27 AM

The Obama cocktail party-and-conga line bonanza is coming under scrutiny:

An organization that serves as a watchdog on the U.S. government for American taxpayers has launched a campaign to uncover exactly how much tax money is being spent on parties at the Obama White House.

The president has shown a penchant for lavish galas, such as the huge assembly orchestrated in Denver when he accepted his party’s nomination for president – an outdoor gathering for some 75,000 featuring a stage with Greek columns. He also held a multimillion-dollar victory celebration in Chicago, and his fancy inauguration cost an estimated $170 million, according to ABC News.

Now, Larry Klayman, founder of Freedom Watch, told WND today he’s seeking information about the partying in the White House since the Obamas moved in…

…Klayman said the reports of the partying at the White House, “with the likes of Steve Wonder and other high priced entertainment stars,” will be the focus of document requests being submitted to the General Services Administration. The requests will seek to determine how much taxpayer money is being used.

“Barack and Michelle Obama have been throwing taxpayer funded parties nearly every night with their ‘friends’ and supporters, with Michelle Obama even exhorting them not to ‘break’ White House property,” Klayman’s announcement said.

“This party atmosphere sends the wrong message to the American people. As the Obama-Clinton crowd party on, the American people are suffering greatly,” Klayman said.

We taxpayers ended up paying $480 million, almost half a billion, for the Headwaters land. About 1,400 lumber workers lost their jobs. Various environmentalists or their "estates" successfully sued governmental, law enforcement or private corporations for millions of dollars. The end result is we own a chunk of land that we, humans, can not visit because of all of the endangered species living their. With the current economic situation I want our money back.

If you haven’t seen this, you should check it out. Obama’s crew are still following the Alinsky format.

Here’s the relevant quote, but the whole thing is worth reading.

“Try Rule 12 from Saul Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals“:

RULE 12: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.”

“And as for the attacks coming from the White House Press podium? Rule 5 covers that:

RULE 5: “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.” There is no defense. It’s irrational. It’s infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions.”

Elect Obama, Get Embryonic Stem Cells (Obama puts YOUR tax dollars to work)

Obama Aims to Shield Science From Politics

OK, let’s talk science. Embryonic stem cells develop tumors. Adult stem cells do not. Embryonic stem cell research has resulted in zero cures. Adult stem cell research has resulted in 72 cures. Embryonic stem cells will never have the same DNA as the patient. Adult stem cells taken from a patient will always have the DNA match and will never be rejected. How’s that for science?

Children With [Diabetes] Look Forward To Obama's Expected Lifting Of Ban On Stem Cell Research

From my files:

Embryonic stem cells have not cured or successfully treated a single patient. Contrast that with the more than 70 conditions that are treatable using non-embryonic stem cell therapies.

Note: Conditions treatable using non-embryonic stem cells are listed in this article.

Adult Stem Cells: It's Not Pie-in-the-Sky

Though embryonic stem cell research advocates euphemistically refer to the current state of research as an “early stage”, the unfortunate reality is the goal of embryonic stem cell therapies is, at this point, more accurately described as a pipe dream. No researcher is anywhere close to significant progress in developing practical embryonic stem cell therapies.

The only thing certain is that the cost of that research will be high. If embryonic stem cell research had real and imminent possibilities, private investors would be pouring capital into research hoping for real and imminent profits. Instead, venture capital firms are contributing to political efforts to get taxpayers to fund research. What the venture capitalists seem to be hoping for is that taxpayer funding of stem cell research will increase the value of their stakes in biotech companies. The venture capitalists can then cash out at a hefty profit, leaving taxpayers holding the bag of fruitless research.

Ron Reagan Wrong on Stem Cells

"Using embryonic stem cells, researchers at Stanford University who are working on a cure for Type I diabetes are producing new pancreatic islet cells that could be used in human transplants and could herald a cure for this devastating illness."

Actually, the latest research findings regarding embryonic stem cells are that they do not actually produce insulin in response to glucose changes in their environment and are NOT the pancreatic beta cells needed to treat diabetes. When placed in animals, the cells did not reverse diabetes; instead, they formed tumors.

"A Korean research team recently made history by using human embryonic stem cells to cure Parkinson's disease in rats."

That is what they claim, but the research is a long way from producing a safe and effective treatment for humans. On the one known occasion when earlier-stage (before 6 weeks) fetal tissue was used to try to treat a human Parkinson's patient, the tissue killed the patient by forming clumps of bone, skin and hair in the middle of his brain.

Moreover, animal trials with embryonic stem cells repeatedly kill many of the animals because of formation of brain tumors.

Meanwhile, the first clinical trial using a patient's own adult brain stem cells to treat Parkinson's has produced a lasting 80% reversal of symptoms, and wider human trials are being planned.

New Jersey Right to Life

A more recent article…Why Embrionic Stem Cells are Obsolete, shows nothing has changed:

A report from Israel published in PLoS Medicine in late February that shows embryonic stem cells injected into patients can cause disabling if not deadly tumors.

The report describes a young boy with a fatal neuromuscular disease called ataxia telangiectasia, who was treated with embryonic stem cells. Within four years, he developed headaches and was found to have multiple tumors in his brain and spinal cord that genetically matched the female embryos used in his therapy. His experience is neither an anomaly nor a surprise, but one feared by many scientists.

Even as the future of embryonic stem cells has dimmed, adult stem cell research has scored major wins evident just in the past few months. These advances involve human stem cells that are not derived from human embryos. In fact, adult stem cells, which occur in small quantities in organs throughout the body for natural growth and repair, have become stars despite great skepticism early on. Though this is a more difficult task, scientists have learned to coax them to mature into many cell types, like brain and heart cells, in the laboratory.

The more ethically charged decision—less understood by the public and one Congress has avoided—involves the ban on creating human embryos in the laboratory solely for research purposes.

In fact, President Clinton is the one who balked at allowing scientists to use government money for embryo creation and research on stem cells harvested from such embryos; Bush only affirmed the Clinton ban.

Some Americans Can't Pretend

Robert Samuelson is one of the most influential economic columnists in America, and for good reason: he’s informed, intelligent, and measured. That’s why his column today is significant. In Samuelson’s words:

Obama is a great pretender. He repeatedly says he’s doing things that he isn’t, trusting his powerful rhetoric to obscure the difference. He has made “responsibility” a personal theme; the budget’s cover line is “A New Era of Responsibility.” He says the budget begins “making the tough choices necessary to restore fiscal discipline.” It doesn’t.

This column should be read in conjunction with this article on Secretary of the Treasury Tim Geithner where we learn

Of the 15 key Treasury Department positions that require Senate confirmation, only one has been filled… Geithner, who started work in late January, has no deputy secretary, no under secretaries for international affairs and no deputy under secretaries.

This is stunning, especially when you consider that we are facing one of the two most serious economic crises in our lifetime.

An Economic Primer for Obamabots

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for dinner and the bill for all comes to $100.If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing like they do now with the present income tax structure.

The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59 of the bill.
So that is what the ten men decide to do.

The ten men ate dinner in the restaurant every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. “Since you all are such good customers I am going to reduce the cost of your daily meal by $20”. Dinner for the 10 men now costs just $80...

The group still wanted to pay the bill the same way that they paid their taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still eat for free. But what about the other six men — the Paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everybody would get his “Fair Share”?

They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But they subtracted that from everybody’s share, then the fifth and sixth man would each end up being paid to eat their meal…So, the restaurant owner suggested it would be fair to reduce each mans bill roughly the same amount; and proceeded to work out the amounts each man would pay.

The fifth, like the first four now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth man now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% savings)
The seventh man now paid $5 instead of $7 (28% savings)
The eight man now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings)
The ninth man now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings)
The tenth man now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings)

Each of the six was better off then before. And the first four continued to eat for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings…

“I only got a dollar out of the $20,” declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man “but he got $10”…“Yeah, that’s right,” exclaimed the fifth man. “I only saved a dollar, too. Its unfair that he got ten times more than me!?”“That’s true”, shouted the seventh man. “Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!”“Wait a minute,” yelled the first four men in unison. “We didn’t get anything at all. The system exploit’s the poor!”The nine men surrounded the tenth man and beat him up…

The next night the Tenth man did not show up for dinner, so the Nine sat down and ate without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn’t have enough money between all of them for even half the bill!

And that Boys & Girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just might not show up anymore. In fact, they might start eating overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier…David R. Kamerschen, PH.DProfessor of EconomicsUniversity of Georgia

What's In A Filename?

Is there nothing that Our Hero can't do?

Nice catch by Bob McCarty.

Heroic Name Given to Photo of President Obama

March 9th, 2009 · No Comments

Soon after President Barack Obama signed an executive order lifting the ban on the use federal funding of embryonic stem cells in medical research, the wizards behind the White House web site posted the photo above.  Though I find it less troubling than the president’s continuing assault on the unborn, the file name (hero_stemcell_main2.jpg) under which someone at the White House saved the photo of the signing ceremony this afternoon is disturbingly creepy.

I discovered the file name when I went to save the photo to my computer.  Click here to see a screen shot which shows the file name for the photo highlighted in blue as I was in the process of saving the photo to my computer.

To imply that President Obama is somehow heroic by signing a measure that lifts a ban on the slaughter of human embryos for scientific purposes goes beyond the pale.  Such an amateurish action should not, however, surprise anyone familiar with Obama’s socialist agenda (a.k.a., “Obamalism”) and his follower’s blind allegiance to “Dear Leader.”

American Leningrad - UPDATED

You’ll want to read neo-neocon today.

She’s got quotes by Lenin and thoughts on Dostoevsky and yes, it’s all relevant, relevant, relevant.

The quotes from Lenin are chilling and you will be able to relate all of them to what is happening in America, today, even though President Obama insists it’s not, and that he’s no socialist, nope, not him! Bush was the socialist, yep, yep, yep.

Bush made his mistakes, and the damn bailout in October was a biggie, but he was no deliberate socialist.

A sampling of Neo:

A lie told often enough becomes the truth.

Democracy is indispensable to socialism.

Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted.

The best way to destroy the capitalist system is to debauch the currency.

The goal of socialism is communism.

The way to crush the bourgeoisie is to grind them between the millstones of taxation and inflation.

There are no morals in politics; there is only expedience.

No amount of political freedom will satisfy the hungry masses.

I’ve quoted the following excerpt before on this blog. I’m quoting it again now. And I wouldn’t be at all surprised if I have reason to quote it in the future.

In this excerpt Dostoevsky’s Grand Inquisitor is addressing Christ, who has returned to earth but is arrested and imprisoned again:

Oh, never, never can [people] feed themselves without us [the Inquisitors and controllers]! No science will give them bread so long as they remain free. In the end they will lay their freedom at our feet, and say to us, “Make us your slaves, but feed us.” They will understand themselves, at last, that freedom and bread enough for all are inconceivable together, for never, never will they be able to share between them! They will be convinced, too, that they can never be free, for they are weak, vicious, worthless, and rebellious. Thou didst promise them the bread of Heaven, but, I repeat again, can it compare with earthly bread in the eyes of the weak, ever sinful and ignoble race of man?

Read what’s in between.

Btw, socialism does not work, except in monasteries and the reason it works in monasteries is because it is voluntary. When you voted for Obama - if you did - did you think you were voting for socialism? When Obama talked to you about “remaking America” was socialism and “not wasting a good crisis” what you had in mind? Do you really think the US Constitution is fundamentally flawed, and not a bit of genius?

UPDATE: I wrote earlier today:

No wonder [Church] scares off so many. In our age, the self is everything to be celebrated and never to be diminished. Church subsumes; you become not the lone worker bee, but the very buzz of the hive. And what sweetness is found, therein.

But the thing is…being subsumed by something greater than oneself is only glorious when one is at liberty to assent to it, when one volunteers to be absorbed into the collective. That is, in fact, the ultimate expression of liberty. Being compelled into the collective - or herded there - against ones will, against one’s liberty, against one’s declared choice - even against one’s constitution, has nothing to do with glory and everything to do with tyranny. One is an ultimate human freedom and a good. The other is the antithesis of human freedom. And that is evil.

Going Galt, continued

By Michelle Malkin  •  March 10, 2009 06:49 PM

For the past two weeks, with a big hat tip to Dr. Helen Smith who diagnosed the phenomenon last fall, we’ve had a fascinating and spirited discussion here about the “Going Galt” movement that’s catching on nationwide.

There’s now even a Twitter hashtag for the phenomenon: #goinggalt.

My email box (especially after publication of my recent syndicated column on the subject) continues to fill up with letters from readers choosing in large and small ways to go Galt.

Reader Ron Ruffer of Pa. e-mails:

Dear Ms. Malkin,

First I would like to say that I very much enjoy your commentary column and typically support your point of view. In your column noted above, I can appreciate and certainly do believe that Enough is Enough.

Self-employed for the last 15 years, I have been one of those persons who, throughout my life, I have always – ALWAYS – worked. From age 14, I have always had a job and have always put forth my best efforts to earn money and support myself. I worked through college, worked while I earned my M.S. in Marketing, and worked very long hours and weekends while pursuing my career. My wife and I always paid off our debts – our college loans (early), our credit cards (RARELY having an unpaid balance, and if so usually through a late payment due to issues of the timing of the receipt of the bill), our car loans and our home loans. We started our life together in a rented apartment, then moved to a duplex (which we bought based on my income, not our combined incomes) when our realtor and many of our friends tried to encourage us to move into a bigger, more expensive single home. We bought what we KNEW we could afford comfortably, not what others thought we should have or could afford.

We saved, and we saved. I took a risk and started my own business when my wife was pregnant with our 3rd child. No one was there to catch me should my efforts have failed. No one was going to pay off my mortgage, no one was there to pick up the tab for our health care. Even my boss at the time thought I was making a foolish move. My feeling was that if I did fall – I would simply pick myself up again and move forward. I would rely upon myself, not others.

I did all of these things while others - who were without my education, income or savings levels - were out spending..spending on big homes, lavish vacations, and high end automobiles. Spending money they did not have. Spending away their future. Spending away MY future.

As my income increased, I paid my ever-increasing tax bills. I paid for my company, and I paid for myself. In reality, I was double taxed – taxed on company income, taxed on private income. I paid regardless. I was and am never late. I knew I would most likely never, ever see anything close to a payback on my tax payments. The money went to pay for a bloated, increasingly non-representative government that was run in the interest of the political party in power, not the individuals they were elected to represent.

As you have so noted, there are many within our economy that can be considered “Wealth Producers” (though I disagree with your notion of a lawyer being a “Wealth Producer” as most (but not all) are a drain on our society and on our ability to conduct business – note as well that most of our representatives in Federal and State legislatures are attorneys). These are people who, like myself and my wife, have worked, taken risks, and contributed far beyond the average person. They are people who have acted responsibly and throughout their lives borne the brunt of the taxes and responsibilities of our society. They are the very backbone of our society – and they are under-appreciated and under-represented in our Democratic society.

It is now fashionable and politically expedient to extend blame for the current financial crisis on greedy businesses and predatory lenders. The reality is that individuals and poorly managed businesses were responsible for the bulk of the problems. Government also played a role – and it was both parties – that encouraged and supported unsound business practices. Now the Government “must” step in to “save” these poor people from losing their homes, and “save” these “too big to fail” financial institutions. What about those of us, and those businesses, that chose to act responsibly? Who chose to live within their means? Who chose sound financial decisions over high risk behavior?

Enough is Enough. Let them all fail. It is not too late. I don’t care about the homeowner that borrowed more than they could afford and now find themselves potentially without a home and bankrupt. I don’t care about the businesses that overlooked sound financial decisions in the name of short term profits. We all make choices in life and it is time to let those that made the bad choices live with their decisions and finally reward those that chose to act responsibly. It has come down to this – either we let those that made the bad decisions fail, or we end up sacrificing our nation, our national identity and our very way of life.

The current administration of course feels that more and bigger government is the way to resolve this “crisis”. This follows on the heels of a Republican administration that was one of the worst disasters this country has ever experienced in political, social, and economic terms. Spend, spend, spend – soon to be followed by tax, tax tax. Fewer producers supporting more and more non-producers. Government, as in “Atlas Shrugged”, seems to feel that it is the solution to the problem, not part of the problem. Government seems to think it is a producer..an employer..a creator of wealth. We have a crisis alright – a crisis in leadership, and a crisis in Government. It’s time someone in Government started thinking of ways to “save” the Wealth Producers, because my next step is move to a pond which is not infested with so many leeches.

Long live John Galt.

Blogger Ken Pritchett also weighs in:

If the Left is fighting us, we must be doing something correctly. My wife and I have cut back massively, and are living primarily on her small salary. My Custom A/V business is being scaled back and reworked to survive on under $800,000 in sales per year. Because of this, unfortunately, we are unable to hire the two or three people we originally required within the next twelve months. Those who have small businesses know the absurd levels of taxation we face, from federal, state, and local governments.

Blogger Ross Kaminsky shares his take:

It’s great to see discussions on the web of people “going Galt.” If enough productive members of society decide that it’s simply not worth the risk and effort to strive for the next dollar, it is not primarily they who will suffer economically. It is those who believe in redistribution, who believe that Obama would and should make “government” pay her rent (and we thought she was insane when she said that – turns out she was psychic.) Those so interested in being recipients of government redistribution of wealth, the “looters” and the “moochers” as Ayn Rand calls them in Atlas Shrugged, just let them try to redistribute income from people who simply quit working because we’re not willing to be looted and mooched from. Yes, we are living Atlas Shrugged, and we might as well not quit halfway through the story.

I’ve done this once already…I moved out of the US for nearly 2 years after Bill Clinton raised tax rates, and moved back just in time for the capital gains tax cut. Let me be clear: I gave up two years of at least $200,000 (but probably a fair bit more) per year, just so I didn’t have to pay taxes to Bill Clinton’s government. My money is where my mouth is in a way that few people can claim. And Clinton was a piker and a conservative in comparison to Obama.

So, in case I haven’t been clear enough: As long as we’re already going to have a fairly bad recession, I’m saying let it be worse and longer. Let more people be persistently unemployed, let the economy drag along the sludge-laden bottom of the progressive sewer, let businesses close down or move overseas, let tens or hundreds of thousands of capable people publicly declare how excessive taxation and regulation is causing them to work less, take less risk, and employ fewer Americans, and finally let people recognize that capitalists are not a “necessary evil” but rather that they are a necessary good.

Most people don’t learn truly important lessons unless they are taught in an expensive or painful way. A once-and-for-all repudiation of Keynsianism is a lesson that is too important not to be learned in such a way.

This sentiment is not going away.

They abused the British soldiers as they returned home from combat.
The Daily Mail reported:

A homecoming march by British troops returning from Iraq was today marred by ugly scenes as Muslim anti-war protesters hurled abuse at the parading soldiers.

Around 20 men in Islamic dress yelled 'terrorists' and held placards denouncing the soldiers as 'butchers of Basra' and 'baby killers' as they marched through Luton in Bedfordshire.

Other signs described the 200 men and women from the 2nd Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment as 'Criminals, Murderers Terrorists'.
The atmosphere further deteriorated when locals waving St George's flags turned on the protesting group chanting 'Scum' and 'No surrender to the Taliban' .
Sick. After risking their lives they come home to this.

The Giant Ponzi Scheme That is Florida

Four years ago, Lehigh Acres homes were selling as fast as they were built and speculators and developers threw them up cheap and quickly. Back then, anybody who could fog a mirror could get a mortgage. Housing prices swelled every week.

Many of the mortgages were predatory, even fraudulent; buyers were encouraged to lie about their incomes, and many did.

By December 2005, when the housing market began to collapse, the median sales price of a home in the Fort Myers area was $322,000. Today it is $99,000.

In Lehigh Acres, it is more like $50,000. Marc Joseph will gladly sell you one.

The Tax Revolts Have Begun…

And Who is the Real Target?

Hmmmmmmmmm. I wonder what internet sites they will go after? Truth is the new hate speech. It may sound like a good idea but hate speech laws are bad news. Incitement to violence is one thing, 'hate speech' is another.

'End climate of impunity' for online extremists,  report urges

International Centre for the Study of Radicalization and Political Violence calls on authorities to go beyond simply shutting down Web sites used to promote violent political extremism
(National Post Hat tip Jane)

From white supremacist propaganda to radical Islamist recruiting videos, the Internet is awash with extremist content but a report released on Tuesday says it is time to "end the current climate of impunity" enjoyed by those responsible.

The report by the International Centre for the Study of Radicalization and Political Violence calls on authorities to go beyond simply shutting down Web sites used to promote violent political extremism and to prosecute those behind them.

"We propose the selective use of takedowns in conjunction with prosecutions as a means of signaling that cyberspace is not beyond the law," writes the Centre, a partnership of think tanks in Britain, the United States, Israel and Jordan.

While the report's focus is Britain, the Canadian government was consulted by the study's authors and Canada is experiencing similar problems with extremist groups using the Internet to recruit and radicalize followers.

Racist groups such as the Aryan Guard in Calgary use the Internet to spread their message, while in Quebec, a Moroccan man, Said Namouh, went on trial last month for his alleged role in an al-Qaeda on-line propaganda organization.

In Ontario, a University of Toronto at Mississauga student, Salman Hossain, was widely denounced last year for posting messages online that supported terrorist attacks in Canada. Ontario Provincial Police are now investigating him for comments he allegedly made about Jews.

Prof. Sanjeev Anand of the University of Alberta Faculty of Law said Canadian human rights tribunals have been successfully used to target extremist Internet sites but criminal charges are rare, partly because police lack resources to investigate.

"They don't tend to happen very often for whatever reason," Prof. Anand said. "I don't think it's really a question of ‘do we have the appropriate laws?' We do but they're not being utilized, prosecutions aren't coming."

But attempts to limit expression are also controversial in Canada. The three failed attempts to bring Maclean's magazine before human rights tribunals over a column on Islam stirred debate about free speech. A judge acquitted David Ahenakew of hate crimes charges last month, saying his comments about Jews were "revolting" and "untrue" but not a crime since he did willfully promote hatred.

UPDATE: Check this out. See what I mean?

The Ontario Human Rights Commission is calling for Parliament to force all Canadian magazines, newspapers and "media services" Web sites to join a national press council with the power to adjudicate breaches of professional standards and complaints of discrimination.

The council would have the power to order the publication of its decisions and "would help bring about more consistency across all jurisdictions in Canada," reads an OHRC report to the Canadian Human Rights Commission.

The media's freedom of expression comes with a duty to "address issues of hate expression, and [media] should do so either voluntarily through provincial press councils, or through statutory creation of a national press council with compulsory membership," the report reads.
