DUBOB 11- more tales from the Dark UnderBelly Of the Beast...
various links and websites | 01-31-03 | The Heavy Equipment Guy

Posted on 01/31/2003 5:07:21 PM PST by backhoe

At the request of members, I am restarting those "Tales from the Dark UnderBelly Of the Beast"-- the stories and issues that the press and media either ignore, won't even talk about, or will mention once and forevermore claim "it's old news..."

Naturally, some will be stories which interest me, or things I think we all need to be aware of.

I am experimenting with a minor change in presentation- when I can, I will cut to

-GoogleNewsBeta--

with a keyword or two and see what kind of links to "mainstream" stories I can find in contrast to what we see here and on other sites.

May I remind you of a couple of points to bear in mind?
Each link usually has many other links within- follow them all to get "the rest of the story."
Don't forget the "open multiple browsers" trick with control-n -- this allows you to hold your place with one, and use the others to follow links, run searches, etc.

Rather than go back and rehash old links, I'll give you links to the original posts here:

-DUBOB 10- the *best of* the Dark Underbelly Series--

-DUBOB 9-- even *more* tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast..... --

DUBOB 8-- still *more* tales from the Underbelly***

DUBOB 7-- even *more* tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast.....

DUBOB 6-- yet *more* tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast.....

DUBOB 5-- even *more* tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast.....

DUBOB IV- yet more Tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast-

DUBOB III -- "Tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast"

DUBOB 2-- more tales from The Dark Underbelly of the Beast-- thread II

THE “TEA PARTY” SPIRIT GOES LOCAL: “Ann Meagher, president of the Greater Southern Dutchess Chamber of Commerce, and others, brought teabags into the hearing and placed them on a table near the podium, in reference to the Boston Tea Party of 1773. The reference was made to illustrate the problem disgruntled citizens had with the setup of the MTA Board of Directors, on which the four members that represent Dutchess, Putnam, Rockland and Orange counties constitute only one-quarter of a vote each.”

Gun Law Update Jan. 5, 2009 - Gun Ban Lists Revealed

If these near-total bans aren’t enough, the most dangerous part may be the phrase “pistol grip” because: “The term ‘pistol grip’ means a grip, a thumbhole stock, or any other characteristic that can function as a grip.” In other words, any semi-auto long gun with a grip (that’s ALL semi-auto long guns) would be banned under the existing proposal.

Revenge of the Drones!

The left appears to be reeling from the mass defections of former Obama supporters who have begun publishing public apologia for their votes.

A handful of radical diehards have emailed me, expressing their displeasure with their party's quislings. And Republicans in general. But mostly the quislings. Let the reprisals begin!

JOURNALISTS TELL US THAT WHEN NEWSPAPERS FOLD, WE’LL LOSE IMPORTANT REPORTING. Which would be bad. On the other hand, there’s this performance from theChicago Tribune: Chicago Tea Party Gets Scrutiny but Scant Coverage.

Perhaps they read it here in the Tribune, or the New York Times, or heard in on the Mancow Muller radio show on WLS, who repeated the claim today (while saying a well put So What?), but the general story coming from the media (all based on a rather wild article from Playboy Online) was that the protest against spending was not a grass roots movement. Mind you, neither the Tribune nor the New York times carried a word about the actual Tea Party protests, even though the protest occurred right outside the Tribune lobby, the only coverage was that there may have been some type of scripting involved. . . .

So we are left with some stranded stories, covering a “controversy” but ignoring the actual protest itself. At last count there were 130 stories on Google News claiming some type of controversial scripting of events, from the likes of the Tribune and the New York Times, and 75 stories actually covering the event, from the likes of the Chicago Daily Observer and some increasingly relevant blogs.

The Tribune covered the anti-protest smear, but didn’t cover the protest itself, leaving that to blogs, etc. And we’re supposed to cry for the disappearance of newspapers? Maybe if they actually did what they claim they do, people would miss them more when they were gone. Heck, maybe if they actually did what they claim they do, people would actually subscribe now. You never know.

Like Dave Winer says: “Dear news people — WE ARE NOT HAPPY WITH THE JOB YOU’RE DOING.”

MORE TEA PARTY PROTESTS scheduled for this weekend.

HMM: “What Limbaugh’s selection suggests is that Democrats are running out of blame targets. The Republicans are now a minority in both houses. And as Obama’s failures aggregate into a deepening crisis of confidence the Democrats’ need for villains will increase in an effort to deflect blame. And this is why I despair. I predict that in opting to campaign rather than govern, the Democrats are likely to spread the blame net far and wide. The result will be uber-polarization more typical of socialist and fascist polities. The stock market not cooperating? Blame capitalists, the banks, the ‘investor class.’” Kulaks! Hoarders and wreckers!

Related thoughts here: “Who’s the enemy of the week? A talk radio host! Admittedly, not just any talk radio host. But that’s my point: does the administration realize how silly they look going after Rush? Doesn’t it belie a certain substantive hollowness to Obama’s agenda that he must keep looking for someone to blame, rather than focus on the business of governing? Makes me wonder, with all due respect, how Peggy Noonan can perceive Obama as presidential as this? If Obama were being presidential, he would inspire confidence. That he feels he has to go after Rush to control the debate does not.”

Plus, “This is way bigger than Rush.”

BILL QUICK: “California spends far more than it takes in, despite having some of the highest taxes in the United States. It is hostile to business, and the middle class is fleeing in droves. It runs huge deficits every year, yet the Dem dominated legislature refuses to do anything effective to cut spending. Now one in ten Californians is unemployed. Does any of this sound familiar? It should. It’s what Obama and the Democrats have in mind as a ’solution’ for the rest of the country.”

POLITICO: How media sucks up to White House.

PLANNED IMPOVERISHMENT? “They’ll turn us all into beggars ’cause they’re easier to please.”

JIM GERAGHTY: “I’m fascinated by the Obama administration’s mentality that the fact that violent Mexican drug cartels are raising hell just over the border doesn’t justify additional border security or a fence, but it does justify making it harder for American citizens to own a gun.”

DAVID BROOKS: This is not the Barack Obama I thought I knew.

Actually, it’s the same Obama it always was. Brooks, and others, were just so excited at the idea of a black Presidentor, more specifically, at the idea of themselves, voting for a black President — that they suspended all critical faculties. Now it’s buyer’s remorse. We’ll be seeing more of that.

UPDATE: More buyer’s remorse from former Obama supporter Jim Cramer. “And naturally, in response, Obama’s press secretary attacks Cramer by name. Man, the Nixon Obama White House’s enemies list is growing a lot faster than the economy itself.” Well, to be fair, given the state of the economy these days that’s not very hard . . . .

ANOTHER UPDATE: Allah to David Brooks: “You let him off the hook.”

STILL MORE: Video of Cramer, and Gibbs.

Pelosi: House Gets Its Power From Wind

March 3rd, 2009

From Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (taxpayer funded) propaganda outlet, The Gavel:

House Announces Next Steps to Green the Capitol

March 2nd, 2009 by Office of the Speaker

Today, Speaker Pelosi released the Green the Capitol Year End Report, which details the successes achieved in the first 18 months of the program. Building on the House’s established leadership position in carbon and energy-use reductions, the report calls for all of the House’s business practices to meet self-imposed sustainability standards including becoming both cost and energy efficient over the next two years and making waste and carbon reduction efforts affect all day-to-day operations.

The report details how the House eliminated 91,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions:

Since 2007 we have reduced the House of Representatives’ carbon footprint by 74 percent through conservation projects and the purchase of renewable energy

All of the electricity used by the House comes from wind power projects

The Green the Capitol Program has made the House of Representatives a leader in the Federal Government in implementing sustainable, energy saving changes and reducing our carbon footprint.

We banned plastic and stryrofoam from the food service

Over 800 tons of waste from House cafeterias that once went to the landfill is now converted into compost that can be used in landscaping and stream restoration

Our Capitol Power Plant, which used to exclusively burn coal, now mixes in cleaner burning natural gas—enough to cover the House’s percentage already. Speaker Pelosi and Senator Harry Reid are now urging a switch to 100 percent natural gas, which will eliminate more than 95 percent of sulfur oxide emissions and cut carbon monoxide emissions in half.

From changing light bulbs … to switching to paperless records … to simply sealing leaks in an historic building—we have been overhauling everything we do, and learning valuable lessons we are sharing on how to go green on a large-scale.

In the next phase of Green the Capitol, as we keep pushing the envelope for more efficiencies, we will also be educating 435 member offices – both here and back in their home districts – on changes they can make—and share with their local communities…

Our country’s economy is circling the drain, the world is spinning off its axis, and Ms. Pelosi and the rest of the Democrats in Congress are spending their time making sure there are no styrofoam cups in the cafeteria.

Speaker Pelosi and Senator Harry Reid are now urging a switch to 100 percent natural gas, which will eliminate more than 95 percent of sulfur oxide emissions and cut carbon monoxide emissions in half.

As we noted previously, this solution will quadruple the cost of power for the Capitol.

But this is what they call being “both cost and energy efficient.”

Still, why should they worry? It’s not their money.

Figures... Team Obama Blames Bush For Their Trillion Dollar Spending Binge

This is really sad.

Team Obama is already blaming Bush for their record $1.75 trillion budget deficit.

And, just like how Obama and the democrats lied about the the last 8 years of economic growth, they are hoping that the media will play along with them and blame Bush for the dangerous deficit they have already racked up in Obama's first 40 days on the job.

To be clear-- those failed Bush policies dropped the deficit 4 of 8 years, held an average unemployment at 5.2%, saw the strongest productivity growth in 4 decades and witnessed robust GDP growth.
Bush was able to do this despite the recession he inherited, 9-11, Hurricane Katrina, and wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

As you can see from this chart, after the Bush tax cuts were implemented the budget deficit was reduced 3 of the last 4 years:

CBO chart via RedState

The deficit was reduced in 2005, 2006 and 2007 even with war and implementation of the successful Bush surge of troops in Iraq.
It wasn't until the mortgage crisis struck the economy, a crisis Bush warned the democratic Congress about 17 times in 2008 alone, that the deficit climbed to $459 billion.

USA Today published an interactive chart on the the Obama Administration's significant increase in spending this year.
In President Bush's last year in office, 2008, the deficit reached $459 billion:

In President Obama's first year in office the deficit is expected to reach $1.75 trillion and that is if everything goes according to the rosy scenario they are hoping for:

That is nearly 4 times as much as during President Bush's last year in office.

Obama wants to blame Bush for this.
Don't let him.
Bush didn't leave a trillion dollar debt.
Obama already has.

You and I Can't Buy the Guns Mexican Cartels Own

The Administration is Not Dealing Straight With Us on Mexico's Gun Problem

Let's set things straight right up front. Yes, some guns are being smuggled into Mexico from the U.S. Most are handguns. But, handguns are being illegally trafficked from state to state and from the U.S. to Canada. It should come as no surprise that guns are smuggled into Mexico. But, the problem being portrayed by the U.S. media and our government is not as it seems. You see, Mexico doesn't allow ownership of most firearms, so ordinary Mexican people seeking self-protection will find a way to get them into Mexico. As for the drug cartels operating in the border towns along the U.S., they have other sources for their weapons and have become the prime supplier within Mexico.

"Responding to a reporter's question on weapons' regulations, Holder said, "Well, as President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons. I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum." "Holder refused to speculate when legislation would move forward. "There are obviously a number of things that are -- that have been taking up a substantial amount of [Obama's] time, and so, I'm not sure exactly what the sequencing will be," he said."

Translated this means,"We don't think we can push a bill through yet, but as soon as the fake attempt on the President's life is planned and carried out we will be able to ban anything we want!".

Look for it soon.

The Appleseed Program uses marksmanship training as a vehicle for reconnecting Americans with the people and events of the Founding era. It’s an effort to “wake up” Americans, get them off the couch, and have them start taking this country back. Marksmanship is the “hook” to get people to attend the events, in the hopes that once you learn about what Liberty meant to our Founding Fathers, and the price they paid, you will be motivated to do something. Atlantis In America: 20% Of Mortgages Underwater........(home prices down 27%)

The scariest chart ever [gov't spending graphically depicted]

East Coast Economics is "currently doing some research on the (likely) Treasury bubble, and the charts I’m coming across are nothing but scary - one more so than the other. Check out the following which shows the [dollar] amount borrowed by US banks from the Fed through Dec 2007; the spike marks the Savings & Loan Crisis at the end of the 1980s with borrowing maxing out at $8b..."

1919-2007 (Y-axis scales to $10B)

"Now take a look at the following chart. It is the same graph as above, but updated through the beginning of November ‘08."

1919-2008 (Y-axis now scales to $800B)

"This might be less scary if the Fed wasn’t creating money out of thin air and at the same time accepting assets of questionable - and deliberately undisclosed - quality as collateral from banks. As it stands, I am not surprised that 10 year CDS on US Treasuries are above 60bps (high of 72bps at the beginning of December vs. a pre-08 historical average of 2bps)."

Even worse, those figures do not include the financial support the federal government has extended to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

"Although not included in the figures reported by the government, the U.S. government has moved to more explicitly support the soundness of obligations of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, starting in July via the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008, and the September 7, 2008 Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) conservatorship of both government sponsored enterprises (GSEs). The on- or off-balance sheet obligations of those two independent GSEs is just over $5 trillion.... The government accounts for these corporations as if they are unconnected to its balance sheet. The U.S. Treasury contracted at the inception of the conservatorship to receive US$ 1 billion dollars in senior preferred shares, and a warrant for 79.9% of the common shares from each GSE, as a fee to fund, as needed, up to US$ 100 billion total for each GSE (in exchange for more senior preferred stock), in order to maintain solvency and adequate capital ratios at the GSEs, thereby supporting all senior (normal) liabilities, subordinated indebtedness, and guarantees of the two firms. Some observers see this as an effective nationalization of the companies that ultimately places taxpayers at risk for all their liabilities..."

Let's build on those charts to see the growth of unfunded liabilities from entitlement programs (e.g., Social Security, Medicare) since 1940.

The Y- (vertical-) axis of this graph dwarfs the second chart since the total amount of these doomed Democratic "social programs" amounts to around $55 trillion!

This chart represents the U.S. federal debt as a percent of GDP (Gross Domestic Product, the sum total of all goods and services produced in the U.S.). Even before the Obama Porkapalooza stimulus package, the graph depicts the explosion in debt that will be left for our children and grandchildren to work off.
The full faith and credit of the U.S. monetary system is at risk because of interference in the free market by liberals.

From The Community Reinvestment Act's social engineering; to threats by Andrew Cuomo and Janet Reno to shut down banks that didn't meet fabricated underwriting standards; to the rape and pillage of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac... all were orchestrated by Democrats under the guise of "helping the little people."

Government interference in free markets always distorts those markets and frequently leads to catastrophe. The Soviet Union, North Korea, Zimbabwe, and even the United States now provide ample evidence that less government interference is needed, not more.

But yes, by all means, let's nationalize health care! What could possibly go wrong?

Update: Milton Friedman's co-author ("A Monetary History of the United States"), 93-year old Anna Schwartz, says the Fed can avoid a depression by printing more money to buy distressed mortgages.

Update II: More on the phony stimulus package, also known as Porkapalooza: "You know, I'm concerned about the size of the package. And I'm concerned about some of the spending that's in there, [about] ... how you can spend hundreds of millions on contraceptives... How does that stimulate the economy?"

“Going Galt” and the next Tea Party wave

By Michelle Malkin  •  March 4, 2009 10:51 AM

My syndicated column today spotlights two related phenomenon: the Tea Party revolt on the streets and the “Going Galt” revolt with our wallets. For new readers who are just learning about the protest movement and want to join, the best organizational resources are Tax Day Tea Party (nationwide April 15 events), Twitter #teaparty, PJTV’s list of upcoming protests,
Re-TeaParty (send teabags to Washington and find July 4 events), and TCOT Report. And one more good one: New American Tea Party.

Some tinfoil-hatted kooks are still pimping their conspiracy theories about the movement. The latest: Aha! Malkin once gave a speech to Americans for Prosperity and AFP organized the Denver anti-pork protest two weeks ago before Santelli went on his Tea Party rant last week, ergo it’s all a vast plot!!!!!!

Protesters should take this nonsense as a sign of success. You haven’t really made it until you’ve aroused the paranoia of the unhinged Left.

“Going Galt:” America’s wealth producers vs. wealth redistributors
by Michelle Malkin

Enough. In a word, that is the message of disgusted taxpayers fed up with the confiscatory policies of both parties in Washington. George Bush pre-socialized the economy with billion-dollar bailouts of the financial and auto industries. Barack Obama is pouring billions more down those sinkholes. The camel’s back isn’t just broken. His neck and four legs have all snapped, too.

Enough. Last Friday, thousands of Americans turned out to protest reckless government spending in the pork-laden stimulus package, the earmark-clogged budget bill, the massive mortgage entitlement program, and taxpayer-funded corporate rescues. Contrary to false left-wing blog smears that the hastily-planned impromptu events were “Astro-turfed,” the crowds were packed with first-time grass-roots activists. They were people with families and day jobs whose usual definition of “community organizing” involves neighborhood yard sales or their kids’ soccer matches. They were members of the silent majority who decided to be silent no more.

Enough. These “Tea Party” protests spanned the sunny Santa Monica pier to the icy streets of Chicago and Cleveland to rain-drenched Atlanta, overflowing grounds of the St. Louis Gateway Arch, massive crowds in Greenville, S.C., several hundred each in New York City and Washington, D.C., and all points in between. Like those who demonstrated before them in Seattle, Denver, Mesa, Arizona, and Overland Park, Kansas two weeks ago, the Tea Party participants held homemade signs that said it all: “Your mortgage is not my problem;” “Liberty: All the stimulus we need; “No taxation without deliberation.”

The speed and scope with which they mobilized were due not to nefarious outside conspiracists, but to social networking websites Facebook and Twitter (where a burgeoning network called Top Conservatives on Twitter became the central clearinghouse for information). Planning for a new wave of demonstrations on April 15 has begun at www.taxdayteaparty.com.

Enough. While they take to the streets politically, untold numbers of America’s wealth producers are going on strike financially. Dr. Helen Smith, a Knoxville forensic pathologist and political blogger, dubbed the phenomenon “Going Galt” last fall. It’s a reference to the famed Ayn Rand novel, “Atlas Shrugged,” in which protagonist John Galt leads the entrepreneur class to cease productive activities in order to starve the government of revenue. (Not coincidentally, Rand’s novel sales are up and John Galt references punctuated many of the Tea Party demonstrations.) Dr. Smith was inundated with stories like these:

“I have frozen hiring in my firm…No investments will be made in taxable accounts (only 401k/IRAs). I am buying silver and gold instead of CD’s or stocks with non-qualified money/savings. I have stopped taking new clients (thus freezing my income). I barter more and more. Spend less. I stopped Leveraging assets (don’t borrow).”

“I have cut WAY back–I’m no longer buying retail, driving out of a 10-mile radius, spending money on eating out, and am no longer putting my money in a savings account. I am using the money to pay off all of our debt. It has made our family closer, more appreciative…”

Another blogger at Pursuing Holiness wrote: “Last year my family paid nearly a thousand dollars a month in federal taxes, and we are not by any stretch of the imagination rich. I’m going to make it my business to cut that amount in half, using every legal means possible and reducing my income so there is less to tax.”

Enough. Those business owners are not alone. This week, ABC News spotlighted upper-income earners going Galt in response to President Obama’s proposed tax hikes on families with incomes of $250,000 or more. A Lafayette, La. Attorney told the reporter she was cutting back on her business to avoid the tax threshhold: “Why kill yourself working if you’re going to give it all away to people who aren’t working as hard? Tax hikes have consequences. Incentives matter. Only self-deluded wealth redistributors living in la-la-land believe otherwise. Another business owner, Dr. Sharon Poczatek, explained:

“The motivation for a lot of people like me — dentists, entrepreneurs, lawyers — is that the more you work the more money you make,” said Poczatek. “But if I’m going to be working just to give it back to the government — it’s de-motivating and demoralizing.”

The perpetual Borrow-Spend-Panic-Repeat machine in Washington depends on the capitulation of the wealth producers. There’s only one monkey wrench that can stop the redistributionist thieves’ engine. It’s engraved with the word:

Enough.

I was at the Houston event, thanks to the notices posted on this blog.

I got blisters on my head from not wearing a hat, but I got some really good photos (under Politics).

I met a radio talent who started a conservative website.

One wonders what form the Second American Revolution will take.

- Constitutional Convention?

- Or another version of sweeping away the Articles of Confederation with something entirely new?

Top Palin Foe Gets A Job From Obama

March 4th, 2009

From the DNC’s CNN:

Mr. Elton appears on the far left of this July 2008 photo of Alaska elected officials who supported Obama during the campaign.

Palin foe gets administration job

March 3, 2009

From CNN’s Lauren Kornreich

(CNN) – Alaska State Sen. Kim Elton, one of the leading officials to pursue an investigation of Gov. Sarah Palin during the heat of the presidential campaign, has taken a high-level job in the Interior Department.

Palin reacted in a short statement Monday, the day Elton announced his move to Washington.

“Senator Elton pledged his allegiance to President Obama last summer,” said the governor. “We wish him well as he moves on and hope that he uses this job for Alaska’s benefit.”

Palin was the target of an official investigation last year over charges she improperly dismissed a public safety commissioner who refused to fire her sister’s ex-husband, a state trooper. Elton led the legislative investigation of the incident

Elton will serve as Director of Alaska Affairs at the U.S. Department of the Interior.

It is somewhat surprising that CNN would report this, together with its context.

Probably they imagine it will encourage more politicians to do the right thing for the Democrat cause, especially during election campaigns.

CNN wants to show that they will be rewarded in the end.

Indeed, it would be interesting to note what happens to the rest of the Democrats in the photo at the top, most of whom were on the panel that tried to bring down Governor Palin with their trumped up charges.

Obama goes gray

Photo of the Day: Marines Not Impressed With Commander Cut-& Run

Let's face it.
The military hates the Cut & Runner and the feeling is mutual:

After all, Obama once said that even genocide was no reason to keep US troops fighting in Iraq. And, he never has admitted that he was wrong on Iraq.

Here's the video.

Obama Administration Announces They Will Punish Oil Companies For Non-Existent Global Warming

Arctic sea ice growth finished the year in 2008 at the same level as 1979.
The oceans have been cooling since 2003.
Sea ice is growing at the fastest pace on record.
Greenland's glaciers are stabilizing.
There are growing fears of a coming freeze worse than the ice age.
Alaskan Sea Glaciers are advancing for the first time in 250 years.
And, for the second straight year the Earth is, in fact, cooling... not warming.

This US Climate Map October 2007-November 2008 showed that temperatures were well below normal throughout the US in 2008.

It looks like Al Gore was a bit off in his prediction that North Pole will be completely gone in 5 years.

But, it doesn't matter to the Obama Administration...
Today tax cheat Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner announced the Obama Administration intends to punish oil companies for non-existent global warming.
Reuters reported:

U.S. oil and natural gas producing companies should not receive federal subsidies in the form of tax breaks because their businesses contribute to global warming, U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner told Congress on Wednesday.

It was one of the sharpest attacks yet on the oil and gas industry by a top Obama administration official, reinforcing the White House stance that new U.S. energy policy will focus on promoting renewable energy sources like wind and solar power and rely less on traditional fossil fuels like oil as America tackles climate change.

"We don't believe it makes sense to significantly subsidize the production and use of sources of energy (like oil and gas) that are dramatically going to add to our climate change (problem). We don't think that's good economic policy and we think changing those incentives is good for the country," Geithner told the Senate Finance Committee at a hearing on the White House's proposed budget for the 2010 spending year.
But, don't worry.
The Democratic Congress and Obama Administration are pushing billions upon billions of stimulus dollars on expensive and ineffective green energy and cap and trade programs that will cause millions of Americans to lose their jobs. Cap and trade will also cause electricity costs to skyrocket.

More... A news study on climate discovered that global warming is on hold:

Discovery News reports scientists are puzzled that temperatures have flat lined since 2001 despite rising greenhouse gas concentrations.

Scientist Kyle Swanson from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee says, "This is nothing like anything we've seen since 1950. Cooling events since then had firm causes… This current cooling doesn't have one."

El-Rushbo Challenges Unicorn Rider to Radio Debate

Oh, this was terrific...
After the Obama White House coordinated attacks on El-Rushbo with democrats, the media and liberal groups,
Rush Limbaugh challenged Barack Obama to debate his socialist New Deal agenda today.

(JibJab)
Of course, Obama won't go on Limbaugh's show to debate the ideas.
Without a teleprompter?... No way.
This was brilliant move by Rush.
It put the focus back on the White House... and their horrid record.
Via the Rush Limbaugh website:

RUSH: It is on the record -- thanks to Politico.com -- since last fall, the White House, led by Rahm Emanuel, the chief of staff to Barack Obama, has been targeting me, your host, your harmless, lovable little fuzzball. Their standard operating procedure: they need a demon to distract and divert from what their agenda is. They need a demon about whom they can lie so as to persuade average Americans that they're the good guys, the benevolent good guys, and the mean SOBs are their enemies trying to stop this great young little president from doing miraculous and wonderful things.

Here is a new ad that this union bunch is running in Washington, DC, ladies and gentlemen. And, of course, it's been picked up all over the Web. You guys, if you haven't done so, you gotta go to RushLimbaugh.com. The DNCC, whatever it is, they have a questionnaire up there. It's hilarious. I have to give 'em credit. You can see it right now at RushLimbaugh.com.

...But make no mistake about it. Emanuel is the leader of all of this. Carville and Begala are just trying to ride my fame into their fortune and become relevant again. Begala and Carville, don't confuse them with the powerbrokers that are managing this. It all Emanuel. Begala and Carville are second-rate talking heads on CNN. CNN has no audience. Rahm Emanuel is the power behind the throne -- and don't let his effeminate nature and his ballerina past mislead you on this. He may look effeminate (he was a ballerina at one time) but he has the feral instincts of a female rat defending its young. Well, take a look. When Emanuel and Carville and Begala are together (and I've seen pictures) it looks like a reunion of the Village People. (singing) Y! M! C! A! They are really the official greeters in Roswell, New Mexico in Area 51 where Carville was born.

My point here is that these are really odious, empty, nasty people who are feasting on their own arrogance. They are power hungry. But, you know what? They've never had a serious debate over ideas. Their goal is to destroy opponents, which is what they're trying to do now. They don't want to engage opponents. Their idea of victory is the destruction of the opponent. They're not for a level playing field. They want to clear the playing field so that their ideas do not have to undergo any scrutiny. So what do they do? They leak stories to the Politico intended to create impressions about their own importance and their brilliance, when in fact they aren't even bit players on the nation's stage. This is Emanuel, and this is Obama.

...But I have an idea. If these guys are so impressed with themselves, and if they are so sure of their correctness, why doesn't President Obama come on my show? We will do a one-on-one debate of ideas and policies. Now, his people in this Politico story, it's on the record. They're claiming they wanted me all along. They wanted me to be the focus of attention. So let's have the debate! I am offering President Obama to come on this program -- without staffers, without a TelePrompTer, without note cards -- to debate me on the issues. Let's talk about free markets versus government control. Let's talk about nationalizing health care and raising taxes on small business.

Let's talk about the New Deal versus Reaganomics. Let's talk about closing Guantanamo Bay, and let's talk about sending $900 million to Hamas. Let's talk about illegal immigration and the lawlessness on the borders. Let's talk about massive deficits and the destroying of opportunities of future generations. Let's talk about ACORN, community agitators, and the unions that represent the government employees which pour millions of dollars into your campaign, President Obama. Let's talk about your elimination of school choice for minority students in the District of Columbia. Let's talk about your efforts to further reduce domestic drilling and refining of oil. Let's talk about your stock market. By the way, Mr. President, I want to help. Yesterday you said you looked at the stock market as no different than a tracking poll that goes up and down.
More... The White House continued to attack CNBC host Rick Santelli today-- more than a week after the CNBC correspondent criticized the mortgage bailout plan.

UPDATE: White House Spokesman Gibbs admitted today, after they got busted, that attacking the media may not be the best idea.

Our resident fascist cheerleader strikes again.

Neither Limbaugh, Steele, or anybody else has any right to speak against our new Leader. We had an election. President Barack Obama rules this country now.

Well. Obviously the First Amendment is now out of fashion. /sarc

Oh, and your new Leader is an incompetent lout who's commissioned and signed a phony "stimulus" bill that will flush nearly twice as much money down the drain as was spent on the Iraq War over six long years. Also, he's an idiot whose Dumbo-sized ears are apparently useless because he doesn't seem to hear the rest of us telling him that he's gone and scared the stockholders of the nation into a mass exodus from the stock market. Sarah Palin, the so-called "Caribou Barbie," has had HUGELY more experience than Obama when it comes to running things with budgets than your Teleprompter Messiah.

Your new Leader just wants the prestige of being able to say "I won; I'm the President" without doing any of the work.

There. I just spoke against your new Leader. What are you going to do about it then?

All of you racist hatemongers had better pay your bills for the centuries of oppression, genocide, and exploitation that you have inflicted upon those who built your imperialist paradise of Amerikkka.

You hammer-and-sickle-wearing freaks are just itching for a civil war, aren't you?

Pay up or we will take it from you. Your time is over.

So you're contemplating mass armed robbery in addition to the massive tax hikes that King Lunatic is contemplating?

Come and take it, then. We've got the guns, and your doofus leader doesn't yet have his private civilian army that was supposed to be as powerful and well-funded as the actual U.S. armed forces, so you might find it a little difficult.

Major Victory Over Attempted Obama Power Grab

Published by AJStrata under All General Discussions

This is excellent news, and proof Americans can pull together to stop even the liberal democrats in DC from going overboard:

The Obama administration has scrapped plans to have the Census Bureau director report directly to the White House, assuaging the concerns of lawmakers.

Commerce Secretary nominee Gary Locke met with key senators Wednesday to reassure them that the 2010 census would be managed by the Commerce Department, and not the White House.

Behind Dems’ Rush Limbaugh Strategy

March 4th, 2009

From an elated Politico:

Rush Job: Inside Dems’ Limbaugh plan

By JONATHAN MARTIN

Wednesday, March 04, 2009

Top Democrats believe they have struck political gold by depicting Rush Limbaugh as the new face of the Republican Party, a full-scale effort first hatched by some of the most familiar names in politics and now being guided in part from inside the White House.

The strategy took shape after Democratic strategists Stanley Greenberg and James Carville included Limbaugh’s name in an October poll and learned their longtime tormentor was deeply unpopular with many Americans, especially younger voters. Then the conservative talk-radio host emerged as an unapologetic critic of Barack Obama shortly before his inauguration, when even many Republicans were showering him with praise.

Soon it clicked: Democrats realized they could roll out a new GOP bogeyman for the post-Bush era by turning to an old one in Limbaugh, a polarizing figure since he rose to prominence in the 1990s

If Limbaugh himself were to coin a phrase for it, he might call it Operation Rushbo — an idea that started out simply enough but quickly proved to be deeply resonant by a rapid succession of events, say Democrats inside and outside the West Wing.

The seeds were planted in October after Democracy Corps, the Democratic polling company run by Carville and Greenberg, included Limbaugh’s name in a survey and found that many Americans just don’t like him.

“His positives for voters under 40 was 11 percent,” Carville recalled with a degree of amazement, alluding to a question about whether voters had a positive or negative view of the talk show host.

Paul Begala, a close friend of Carville, Greenberg and White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, said they found Limbaugh’s overall ratings were even lower than the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama’s controversial former pastor, and William Ayers, the domestic terrorist and Chicago resident who Republicans sought to tie to Obama during the campaign.

Then came what Begala called “the tripwire.”

But liberals quickly realized that trying to drive a wedge between congressional Republicans and Limbaugh was unlikely to work, and their better move was to paint the GOP as beholden to the talk show host

By February, Carville and Begala were pounding on Limbaugh frequently in their appearances on CNN.

Neither Democrat would say so, but a third source said the two also began pushing the idea of targeting Limbaugh in their daily phone conversations with Emanuel.

Conversations and email exchanges began taking place in and out of the White House not only between the old pals from the Clinton era but also including White House senior adviser David Axelrod, Deputy Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs and Woodhouse.

The White House needed no more convincing after Limbaugh’s hour-plus performance Saturday, celebrated on the right and mocked on the left, at the Conservative Political Action Conference, where he re-stated his hope Obama fails.

“He kicked this into full-gear at CPAC by reiterating it,” said a senior White House official of Limbaugh.

By Sunday morning, Emanuel elevated the strategy by bringing up the conservative talker, unprompted, on CBS’s “Face the Nation” and calling him the “the voice and the intellectual force and energy behind the Republican Party.” …

David Plouffe, Obama’s campaign manager last year and a member of his inner circle still, will publish an op-ed in Wednesday’s Washington Post chiding Republicans for being “paralyzed with fear of crossing their leader.”

A senior White House aide has been tasked with helping to guide the Limbaugh strategy.

Outside, Americans United for Choice, a liberal group, and the Democratic National Committee are driving the message, in close consultation with the White House

Media Matters, the left-leaning media watchdog and advocacy group, began a “Limbaugh Wire” web-site Tuesday to track him. “For a long time Americans haven’t really been aware that he’s so influential,” said Eric Burns, the group’s president.

Democrats are now working hard to ensure that changes.

“He’s driving the Republican reluctance to deal with Obama, which Americans want,” said Greenberg. “He’s the policeman [keeping them in line].”

They’ll all get a fresh hook for the story after Wednesday, when a Democratic polling firm goes into the field to test, among other things, Limbaugh’s standing with the public…

Even the Nixon enemies list was not run by his chief of staff. (In fact, Nixon may not have even known about it.)

No, it was run by Chuck Colson and the now Democrat saint, John Dean.

In fact, here is a memo from Dean to Lawrence Higby, dated August 16, 1971, where Dean explained the purpose of the list:

“This memorandum addresses the matter of how we can maximize the fact of our incumbency in dealing with persons known to be active in their opposition to our Administration; stated a bit more bluntly—how we can use the available federal machinery to screw our political enemies.”

But this current strategy is being run by the very most inside of insiders, and they are a very incestuous clique.

Lest we forget, among other things, Mr. Emanuel lived rent-free with the pollster Greenberg for years, as was noted by Dick Morris in the New York Post:

RAHM’S ‘RENT’ IS JUST THE TIP OF ETHICS ICEBERG

By DICK MORRIS & EILEEN MCGANN

February 17, 2009

… Emanuel is a multimillionaire, but lived for the last five years for free in the tony Capitol Hill townhouse owned by De Lauro and her husband, Democratic pollster Stan Greenberg.

During that time, he also served as chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee - which gave Greenberg huge polling contracts. It paid Greenberg’s firm $239,996 in 2006 and $317,775 in 2008. (Emanuel’s own campaign committee has also paid Greenberg more than $50,000 since 2004.)…

Emanuel never declared the substantial gift of free rent on any of his financial-disclosure forms. He and De Lauro claim that it was just allowable "hospitality" between colleagues. Hospitality - for five years?

Some experts suggest that it was also taxable income: Over five years, the free rent could easily add up to more than $100,000…

Moreover, Messrs Carville and Begala are longtime business partners, who are only too eager to be hired out.

Mr. Dean (and Goebbels) can only look on in envy at the current White House.

(Thanks to Curvyred for the heads up.)

Brits Miffed With Slave Trade Obsessed Michelle Obama

Hope may finally be making a comeback but not in Great Britain.
The Brits are catching on to the Obamas.
As the American media continues to drool, the Brits are starting to take a closer look at Michelle Obama and don't like what they see.
BluegrassRedstate and The Telegraph reported:

We may just LURVE Michelle's fashion sense. But Michelle doesn't reciprocate our affection, one bit. Her broad-brush view of history associates Brits with the wicked white global hegemony responsible for the slave trade. Never mind that a white, Tory Englishman - William Wilberforce - brought the slave trade to an end. Judging by her record, Michelle does not make room for such subtle nuance.

Consider her notorious statement that: "For the first time in my adult life I am really proud of my country." Consider her (till-recently suppressed) Princeton thesis, "Princeton Educated Blacks And The Black Community."

In it she writes: "I have found that at Princeton, no matter how liberal and open-minded some of my white professors and classmates try to be toward me, I sometimes feel like a visitor on campus; as if I really don't belong. Regardless of the circumstances underwhich I interact with whites at Princeton, it often seems as if, to them, I will always be black first and a student second."

Here we see that she has mastered the authentic voice of grievance culture. She also - the thesis was written in 1985 - pre-empts the Macpherson report's ludicrous, catch-all definition of racism: "A racist incident is any incident which is perceived to be racist by the victim or any other person." No matter how hard young Michelle's white undergraduate contemporaries try to be nice, it's not their behaviour that counts, but how Michelle feels.
Ouch.

Dem's War on Small Business May Cause 14% to Fail In Next Year

Talk about a crisis...
14% of small businesses fear they are going to close their doors in the next 12 months because of Democratic policies.
And, it could be even worse than that.

In the 2.3 trillion dollars Democrat spent to stimulate the economy not one dime has gone to small businesses so far.
100% of that 2.3 trillion dollars so far has gone to the top 1% of American companies.
Small businesses are, of course, the engine of the economy.
Small businesses have been virtually ignored by the Obama Administration and Democrats in Congress (they aren't big Dem donors). As a result of the crisis, 14% of small businesses are likely to shut their doors in the next year.

Glenn Beck discussed this crisis today with Lloyd Chapman from the American Small Business Association:
Here's more:

** 97% of all new jobs are created by small businesses.
** 70% of our economy is created by small businesses.
** Small business people are the ones who make around $250,000 per year, in that area.

If 14% of small businesses closed their doors this year it would be an absolute disaster.

Related... Already this year Obama signed legislation that discriminates against 84 percent of U.S. construction workers who choose not to join a labor union. The companies they work for will not be allowed to bid on government jobs.

Economic Disaster Continues-- Dow Tanks 4.1%... Jim Cramer Blasts Obama Team

The Obama disaster continues.
The Dow slid another 4.1% today.

The Dow sank to a 12 year low today.

Also today, CNBC host Democrat Jim Cramer blasted the Obama Administration and Democrats for the disaster we are witnessing.
Mainstreet reported:

I am a fight-not-flight guy, so I was on my hackles when I heard White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs' answer to a question about my pointed criticism of the president on multiple venues, including the Today Show.

"I'm not entirely sure what he's pointing to to make some of the statements," Gibbs said about my point that President Obama's budget may be one of the great wealth destroyers of all time. "And you can go back and look at any number of statements he's made in the past about the economy and wonder where some of the backup for those are, too."

Huh? Backup? Look at the incredible decline in the stock market, in all indices, since the inauguration of the president, with the drop accelerating when the budget plan came to light because of the massive fear and indecision the document sowed: Raising taxes on the eve of what could be a second Great Depression, destroying the profits in healthcare companies (one of the few areas still robust in the economy), tinkering with the mortgage deduction at a time when U.S. house price depreciation is behind much of the world's morass and certainly the devastation affecting our banks, and pushing an aggressive cap and trade program that could raise the price of energy for millions of people.

The market's the effect; much of what the president is fighting for is the cause. The market's signal can't be ignored. It's too palpable, too predictive to be ignored, despite the prattle that the market's predicted far more recessions than we have.

Gibbs went on to say, "If you turn on a certain program, it's geared to a very small audience. No offense to my good friends or friend at CNBC, but the president has to look out for the broader economy and the broader population."

How much I wish it were true right now that stocks played less of a role in peoples' lives. But stocks, along with housing, are our principal forms of wealth in this country. Only the people who have lifetime tenure, insured solid pensions and rent homes but own no stocks personally are unaffected. Sure that's a lot of people, but believe me, they aspire to have homes and portfolios. If we only want to help those who have no wealth to destroy, we are not helping the majority of Americans; we are not helping the broader population.

...Obama has undeniably made things worse by creating an atmosphere of fear and panic rather than an atmosphere of calm and hope. He's done it by pushing a huge amount of change at a very perilous moment, by seeking to demonize the entire banking system and by raising taxes for those making more than $250,000 at the exact time when we need them to spend and build new businesses, and by revoking deductions for funds to charity that help eliminate the excess supply of homes.

We had a banking crisis coming into this regime, but now every area is in crisis. Each day is worse than the previous one for this miserable economy and while Obama's champions cite the stimulus plan, it's really just a hodgepodge of old Democratic pork and will not create nearly as many manufacturing or service jobs as we hoped. China's stimulus plan is the model; ours is the parody.
How sad.
Legal Insurrection calls this Jim Cramer's mea culpa.

Meanwhile, the TARP money is being forced on banks that don't need it.

A spokesman for General James Cartwright, the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, states that the Obama Administration wants to have soldiers and officers pledge a loyalty oath directly to the office of the President, and no longer to the Constitution.

"Sources at the White House had a different point of view. In a circular distributed by White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, the rationale for the change was made more clear."

The President feels that the military has been too indoctrinated by the old harbingers of hate: nationalism, racism, and classism. By removing an oath to the American society, the soldiers are less likely to commit atrocities like those at Abu Ghraib."

The time frame for the changes are unknown. However, it is more likely that the changes will be made around the July 4th holiday, in order to dampen any potential backlash. The difference in the oath will actually only be slight. The main differences will be the new phrasing.
It is expected that the oath to the Constitution will be entirely phased out within two years.

HEIGHTENING THE CONTRADICTIONS: “The contrast is no longer between the young, personable, historic candidate Obama and a creaky, cranky old Republican White Guy, it’s between what America thought it was getting in a President Obama (cool, reasonable and beyond partisanship) and what it now sees as the reality of a President Obama (government spending out of control, an uncertain hand on foreign policy, broken promises, more bureaucrats, etc. etc.). Put another way - what we see now is neither what we were promised, nor what we expected.”

ANOTHER UPDATE: More at Betsy’s Page.

IT GETS CHILLY AT NIGHT, if you’re one of the “little people.”

One funny thing about Democrats--the leading ones, anyway--is that they're pretty much all rich. I mean really rich, not "rich" like you and your spouse together make $250,000 a year, so now you have to pay someone else's mortgage.

This makes for a lot of amusing moments; one of them took place today when Nancy Pelosi teamed up with Brad Pitt for a media availability on rebuilding efforts in New Orleans. Pelosi has never earned much money herself, but she is married to a fabulously rich real estate developer who lets her be Speaker of the House to give her something to occupy her time. What Pitt's role in the proceedings was, I'm not sure. Also present was Jim Clyburn, Congressman from South Carolina and the Majority Whip:

PITT: Thank you. Thank you. I just want to say thank you to the speaker for opening up her doors for us to come in and discuss the rebuilding effort, the current rebuilding effort going on in New Orleans and how we can expand this idea of affordability and sustainability because we think we have a model to works.

Thank you.

PELOSI: You might be interested in knowing, Mr. Clyburn and I were just hearing a little bit. We're going to hear more now, but Mr. Clyburn is the head of our Katrina Task Force. So he's led us delegations down to the Gulf Coast area many times.

And we were listening with great satisfaction to the fact that not are [sic] these homes -- wonderful homes for these families -- not are [sic] they built to a green standard, but they have a utility bill of under $10 a month.

PITT: It's possible.

PELOSI: It's possible to have a utility bill under $10 a month.

I suppose it might be, if your house is a ten-foot cube, and you have an outhouse, no heating or air conditioning, and no telephone. Ten dollars could possibly cover your water bill. Do you think that either Brad Pitt or Nancy Pelosi has any idea how much utilities actually cost? I doubt it. This is a photo of one of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's homes, a $70 million estate in France:

AngelinaJolieBradPittHouseFrance.jpg.jpeg

What do you suppose those utilities might cost? Ten dollars a minute? Do you think the Pitt/Jolie home--this is one of many, no doubt--is "sustainable," whatever that means?

I couldn't find a photo of the Pelosis' principal residence, probably because security guards keep papparazzi at a safe distance. But this is a nice shot of the Pelosis' California vineyard, which uses non-union labor; click to enlarge:

PelosiVineyard88.jpg

Do you suppose that growing grapes and making wine consumes some pretty formidable utilities? Yes, I think so too. But that's different, of course; no need to be "sustainable" when you're rich.

I'm not sure how Clyburn got invited to this party, but he was treated as a bit of a poor relation:

PELOSI: Mr. Clyburn, did you want to say anything?

CLYBURN: Thank you, Madam Speaker.

And thank you, Brad.

I did not realize when the speaker asked me to chair the Katrina- Rita Task Force that it would lead to my getting in a position to make my grandchildren so envious of me because this effort brought the two of us, Brad Pitt and myself, together. In a Time-Picayune, in an editorial some time ago, talked about the benevolence of strangers.

PELOSI: The kindness of strangers.

CLYBURN: The kindness of strangers.

I have no idea what phrase the Times-Picayune used in its editorial, and I doubt that Pelosi does either. But she assumed the reference must be to A Streetcar Named Desire and "corrected" Clyburn, which was entirely needless, and rude, even if accurate. But, hey--if you're a Democrat, you never get off the plantation, do you? Clyburn isn't rich.

Meanwhile, those "sustainable" homes in New Orleans with utility bills that total under $10 a month are either a complete fiction, or the recipients of heavy (but unmentioned) taxpayer subsidies.

Post Office Spends Millions On Houses

March 6th, 2009

Some actual investigative reporting from CNN:

The Postal Service bought this 8,400-square-foot South Carolina home so an employee could relocate.

Postal Service draws criticism for $1.2 million home buy

March 5, 2009

By Abbie Boudreau, Scott Zamost and Jessi Joseph

LAKE WATEREE, South Carolina (CNN) — At a time when the U.S. Postal Service says it is experiencing a financial crisis, it purchased a $1.2 million home from an employee so he could relocate, a CNN investigation has found.

Postal Service spokesman Greg Frey said the home will be resold, as others have been.

"It’s not like we threw away a million dollars," Frey told CNN. "We are hoping it’s going to go for the appraised value."

But a real estate agent in the area said the home could be a tough sell in a depressed housing market — and the USPS said it lost an average of more than $58,000 on the 500-plus homes its relocation program bought and sold in 2008.

The 8,400-square-foot, six-bedroom home on Lake Wateree, about 30 miles north of Columbia, is likely to be the last million-dollar home purchased by the Postal Service. A $1 million cap on homes eligible for the relocation program took effect in February, Frey said.

But the program has raised eyebrows among critics and is under scrutiny by the USPS inspector-general’s office in the wake of a CNN investigation.

The South Carolina home belonged to Ronald Hopson, the former postmaster in Lexington, South Carolina, and his wife, Evelyn. The property includes five acres, four bathrooms, two half-baths and an indoor swimming pool.

Hopson is now the customer service manager for the USPS branch in Carrollton, Texas

Some U.S. government agencies do the same thing, but with limits on how much they will spend. For example, the Food and Drug Administration limits its relocation assistance to homes under $330,000.

Frey said the average cost of the 1,022 homes purchased through the USPS relocation program in 2007 and 2008 was $257,874. Fifteen of those remain on the market, he said.

Of the 1,022, 14 cost between $1 million and $2.8 million. All of those have been sold, Frey said, but typically at a loss once closing costs, attorneys fees and commissions are paid.

In 2007, after the U.S. housing boom peaked, the USPS lost an average of $50,542 on each deal, he said. In 2008, with the market in full retreat, the average loss climbed to $58,397…

No wonder stamps cost so much, what with the Post Office dabbling in the real estate business.

But is it really so hard to recruit people for the cushy jobs at the post office that you have to buy their houses?

No, it’s just another example of what happens when bureaucrats have too much money and too little accountability.

(Thanks to Canary for the heads up.)

Today's Obama Economy May Be Worse Than Great Depression

Several economists are starting to see that Obama inherited a bad situation and made it much, much worse.

This chart shows that the current economy is tracking right with the Great Depression.

Another disillusioned economist comes down hard on the Socialist in Chief.
Donald Luskin at Smart Money reported, via Free Republic:

Today's stock market isn't just the “worst since the Great Depression,” like they're so fond of saying. No, it's even worse than the Great Depression.

Take a look at the chart, below. It shows the daily progress of the S&P 500 in terms of percentage change from the very top. The brown line is the change from the recent all-time highs on October 9, 2007. The blue line is the change from the all-time highs just before the Great Depression, September 6, 1929.

As of yesterday's close (Thursday, March 5), the S&P 500 has lost 56.4% from its all-time highs 513 days ago. At the same point in the bear market associated with the Great Depression, that is at the 513 day mark, the S&P 500 had only lost -- only! -- 49%.

In other words, to be no worse than the catastrophe that happened to stocks in the Great Depression, the S&P 500 today would have to rally 17%.

Looking forward, if stocks are going to continue along the same bleak path they followed during the Great Depression, then I have good news and bad news. The good news is that we're halfway through it. In the Great Depression, the bear market lasted 997 days. We passed that halfway mark two weeks ago. Maybe that's what Barack Obama meant when he said, as he signed the so-called “stimulus” bill, that this was “the beginning of the end.”

He signed that bill on Friday the 13th, by the way. Which brings me to the bad news. By the time the bear market was over in the Great Depression, on that 997th day, the S&P 500 had lost 86.2% from the top. To match that, we'd have to fall another 68.3% from here. Hmmm…maybe that's what the president meant when he said this was “the beginning of the end.”

We can't blame President Obama for the mess he inherited. But we can definitely blame him for making it worse. Stocks are off 28.4% since his election, 15.2% since his inauguration, and 17.2% since his so-called “stimulus” bill was enacted. To say the very least, whatever he's doing, it ain't working.

I have to say I'm a little surprised. I didn't support Obama in the campaign, but I had expected that the wave of good feelings from the election of such a charismatic man would help lift the economy and the markets out of their doldrums. And while I don't agree at all with his liberal orientation in economic policy, at least I thought he was generally a centrist who wouldn't muck things up too much or too quickly.
Not all of us are so surprised, Donald.
The fact that so many intelligent people believed the most liberal senator would lead as a centrist is what is really shocking.

It's Friday... Time for the "Abortion President" to Sign Legislation to Use Taxpayer Money to Kill Embryos

It's Friday... Time for President Obama to sign some more abortion legislation.

A year ago Obama told Pastor Rick Warren that he wasn't sure at what point a baby gets human rights.
It was above above his paygrade:
But that was last year.
A funny thing happened after the election.
Obama suddenly figured it out.

And, again for those of you who missed it...
One of the most outrageous and dishonest campaign websites this year was Obama's mock "Pro-Life" website paid for by George Soros that suggested Obama was pro-Life.

In reality Obama was the most radical pro-abortion and infanticide candidate in the last 35 years. Barack Obama even voted 4 times to support infanticide.

Already, Obama has signed several major pieces of abortion legislation in his first 50 days in office.
Today it was announced that he will use taxpayer money to kill embryos.
FOX News reported:

One of the most outspoken abortion opponents in Congress labeled President Obama the "abortion president" on Friday in response to news that Obama intended to sign an executive order Monday lifting restrictions on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.

Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J., accused Obama of launching two attacks on pro-life measures. In addition to lifting President Bush's stem cell restrictions, Obama intends to lift regulations from the Bush administration that allow health care providers and institutions to refuse to participate in abortions on grounds of conscience.

Smith labeled Obama's stem cell policy an expansion of "human embryo experimentation."

"Why does the president persist in the dehumanizing of nascent human life when better alternatives exist? Human embryo-destroying stem cell research is not only unethical, unworkable and unreliable- it is now, demonstrably unnecessary," Smith said.

...Under President Bush, taxpayer money for that research was limited to a small number of stem cell lines that were created before Aug. 9, 2001, lines that in many cases had some drawbacks that limited their potential usability.

Hugo Chavez Calls On Obama To Follow Path of Socialism

Obviously, Hugo did not have to ask twice.
Obama and the democrats are already 3 steps ahead of him.

In fact, Many Americans including the tea party protesters think it might be too late.
Obama embraced socialism a long time ago.

Drudge reported:

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Friday called upon US President Barack Obama to follow the path to socialism, which he termed as the "only" way out of the global recession. "Come with us, align yourself, come with us on the road to socialism. This is the only path. Imagine a socialist revolution in the United States," Chavez told a group of workers in the southern Venezuelan state of Bolivar.

The controversial Venezuelan leader, who taunted the United States as a source of capitalistic evil under former president George W Bush, added that the United States needs a leader who can take it to a "higher" destiny and bring it out of "the sad role that it has been given, as a murderous, attacking power that is hated all around the world."

Chavez said that people are calling Obama a "socialist" for the measures of state intervention he is taking to counter the crisis, so it would not be too far-fetched to suggest that he might join the project of "21st century socialism" that the Venezuelan leader is heading.

"Nothing is impossible. Who would have thought in the 1980s that the Soviet Union would disappear? No one," he said.

"That murderous, genocidal empire has to end, and some day there has to come a leader ... who interprets the best of a people who also include human beings who suffer, endure, weep and laugh," the outspoken Chavez said.
Who knows?
Chavez may have found himself another brother.

Trickle Down Bumbling... Hillary Goofs On Russian Gift Exchange (Video)

Trickle down bumbling...
Hillary Tells Russian Diplomat She Wants to 'Overcharge' Ties.
Smart.

She thought she was giving him a "restart" button.
Instead it was an "overcharge" button."
Nice work.
This must be what they call "smart power."
Fox News reported:

Note to self: When trying to improve ties with a former Cold War-era foe, check a dictionary.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton learned that lesson the hard way Friday when she presented Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov with a gift bearing an incorrect translation -- one that implied hostility, rather than peacemaking.

Clinton presented Lavrov with a gift-wrapped red button, which said "Reset" in English and "Peregruzka" in Russian. The problem was, "peregruzka" doesn't mean reset. It means overcharged, or overloaded.

And Lavrov called her out on it.

"We worked hard to get the right Russian word. Do you think we got it?" Clinton asked Lavrov.

"You got it wrong," Lavrov said. "This says 'peregruzka,' which means overcharged."
Ouch. You just know Hillary dropped a few f-bombs she's famous for back stage after that gift bombed.

An assistant shows the mock 'reset' button that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton handed to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Geneva Friday. (AP Photo)

Goracle Lashes Out at Critics-- Refuses to Debate Junk Science (Video)

Arctic sea ice growth finished the year in 2008 at the same level as 1979.
The oceans have been cooling since 2003.
Sea ice is growing at the fastest pace on record.
Greenland's glaciers are stabilizing.
There are growing fears of a coming freeze worse than the ice age.
Alaskan Sea Glaciers are advancing for the first time in 250 years.
And, for the second straight year the Earth is, in fact, cooling... not warming.

This US Climate Map October 2007-November 2008 showed that temperatures were well below normal throughout the US in 2008.

But, don't dare question the Goracle about his junk science.

Al Gore-- A classic liberal in action.

Al Gore refused to take questions at a climate conference this week and lashed out at non-believers.
KNX reported:

Former Vice President Al Gore repeated his message that climate change is a planetary emergency at the WSJ’s Eco:nomics conference in California. The Nobel-prize winner declined to take any questions from reporters, but he did receive a couple of challenges from attendees, including Bjorn Lomborg. But don’t expect Mr. Gore to debate the merits of how best to tackle climate change anytime soon.

Mr. Gore stuck to his prepared script about the urgency of taking action to curb global greenhouse-gas emissions, down to well-worn phrases he trots out at conferences across the country: America is at "a political tipping point" on climate change, and even if Washington has failed to address the energy challenge in the last 35 years, "political will is a renewable resource."

But he was challenged by Mr. Lomborg, the Danish skeptical environmentalist who thinks the world would be better off spending more money on health and education issues than curbing carbon emissions.

"I don’t mean to corner you, or maybe I do mean to corner you, but would you be willing to have a debate with me on that point?" asked the polo-shirt wearing Dane.

"I want to be polite to you," Mr. Gore responded. But, no. "The scientific community has gone through this chapter and verse. We have long since passed the time when we should pretend this is a ‘on the one hand, on the other hand’ issue," he said. "It’s not a matter of theory or conjecture, for goodness sake," he added.
Get some cajones, Al, and debate someone on your junk science.
For goodness sake.

Another Record!... Obama's Market Decline Worst For New Prez in 90 Years

Obama keeps racking up those records...
** The stock market had its worst January in 113 years.
** This was followed by the worst February for the stock market since 1933.
** Don't forget the record unemployment rate.
** Obama's budget more than doubles the national debt held by the public, and adds more to the debt than all previous presidents -- from George Washington to George W. Bush -- combined.

And, now this...
The Dow has dropped faster under Obama than any other new president in 90 years.

Today the Dow continued its decline.
Fox News reported:

The Dow Jones Industrial Average has fallen faster under President Obama than under any new president in at least 90 years, according to a review conducted by Bloomberg.

Bloomberg reports that since Inauguration Day, the Dow has fallen 20 percent, leading at least one investor to dub this the "Obama bear market." The Dow has also dropped 31 percent since Election Day.

Despite a string of government bailout offers and Obama's advice earlier this week that Americans should be buying stock while shares are low, the Dow has continued to freefall.

Bloomberg reported that Obama is at risk of breaking a historical trend -- in which the Dow soars an average of close to 10 percent in the first year after a Democrat wins the presidency.
But there's hope!
Today the Obama Administration started taking economic advice from Twitter.

Alinsky Fan Clinton Tells Europeans: "Never Waste a Good Crisis"

Barack Obama is not the only fan of Saul Alinsky in the Administration.

Saul Alinksy's Rules for Radicals is a favorite in leftist circles.

It was no accident that Hillary Clinton chose to write about Saul Alinsky for her senior thesis at Wellesley College. Hillary was a huge fan of the radical socialist. She is well versed on the "Cloward-Piven Strategy" of forcing political change through manufactured crisis.
James Simpson wrote more about this at the American Thinker.

Today, Hillary Clinton reverted back to her Alinsky ways.
She urged her European audience to, "Never waste a good crisis," and force expensive green energy programs on the continent.
Reuters reported, via Drudge:

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told an audience on Friday "never waste a good crisis," as she highlighted the opportunity of rebuilding economies in a greener, less energy intensive model.

Highlighting Europe's unease the day after Russia warned that gas exports to the EU via Ukraine might be halted, she also condemned the use of energy as a political lever.

Clinton told young Europeans at the European Parliament global economic turmoil provided a fresh opening: "Never waste a good crisis ... Don't waste it when it can have a very positive impact on climate change and energy security."

Europe sees the United States as a crucial ally in global climate talks in Copenhagen in December, after President Barack Obama signaled a new urgency in tackling climate change, in stark contrast to his predecessor George W. Bush.

Unemployment Rate Reaches Record High Under Obama

The economy continues to shrink with Barack Obama and the anti-business Democrats in charge.
...But Obama did save 25 jobs for one year today.

(Numbers from Misery Index)

The unemployment rate is now the highest its been since 1983 when Ronald Reagan started to turn the economy around after the disaster of the Carter years.
The AP reported:

The nation's unemployment rate bolted to 8.1 percent in February, the highest since late 1983, as cost-cutting employers slashed 651,000 jobs amid a deepening recession.

Both figures were worse than analysts expected and the Labor Department's report shows America's workers being clobbered by a relentless wave of layoffs unlikely to ease anytime soon.

The net loss of 651,000 jobs in February came after even deeper payroll reductions in the prior two months, according to revised figures released Friday. The economy lost 681,000 jobs in December and another 655,000 in January.
The American Small Business Association already announced that 14% of small businesses may close this year due to the hostile policies of the Obama Administration.
This will add significantly to the unemployment numbers.

It's too bad the democrats wouldn't listen to Goerge Bush or John McCain when they had the chance.

More... It's pretty obvious already-- Obama is No Reagan.

Brrrr... Another Rare Occurence-- Great Lakes Freeze Up Again

Island Turtle reported that 3 of the 5 Great Lakes once again froze solid this year:

Natice.NOAA.gov

Natice.NOAA.gov

The freezing of the Great Lakes happens about once a decade. The last time was in 2003 and before that 1994, according to Ice Service records, and it was 1982 before that.

It looks like we are starting to see a pattern here:
Arctic sea ice growth finished the year in 2008 at the same level as 1979.
The oceans have been cooling since 2003.
Sea ice is growing at the fastest pace on record.
Greenland's glaciers are stabilizing.
There are growing fears of a coming freeze worse than the ice age.
Alaskan Sea Glaciers are advancing for the first time in 250 years.
And, for the second straight year the Earth is, in fact, cooling... not warming.

This US Climate Map October 2007-November 2008 showed that temperatures were well below normal throughout the US in 2008.

But, despite the myriad of evidence against the global warming hoax, the media and politicians continue to cling to their junk science.
Business and Media Institute reported:

Temperatures have plummeted to record or near-record lows in 32 states this winter. On March 2, a global warming protest in Washington, D.C. was buried by nearly a foot of snow. And a new study warns that the Earth could be in for a 30-year cooling trend. Reality is not cooperating with the network news’ global warming theme, yet reporters are unwilling to even discuss the possibility that the Earth is cooling.

Global warming alarmists repeatedly link weather phenomena like tornadoes, hurricanes, ice melt, droughts and wildfires with global warming and the media embrace the stories. Yet, when cities or regions are buried in snow like the city of Chenzhou, China was in February 2008 there wasn’t a word about climate change in the cooling direction.

“It is being called China’s Hurricane Katrina,” NBC anchor Brian Williams said on Feb. 4, 2008. “… the month of blizzards that have brought it [China] to a virtual standstill. Millions have been stranded. Hundreds of thousands of people are homeless.” Williams didn’t chalk up the devastation to global cooling, of course. That doesn’t fit the media’s warming narrative.

James Hansen, a leading global warming alarmist, promoted a “civil disobedience” protest at a Washington, D.C. coal power plant March 2. The protestors claim that coal – and its carbon emissions are a cause of global warming. Hansen and his friends were greeted with 8 inches of snow, “strong” winds and below freezing temperatures.

Cube-steak Americans vs. the Wagyu-beef White House

By Michelle Malkin  •  March 6, 2009 11:44 AM

My syndicated column today spotlights the return of thrift in individual American households — a phenomenon that stands in stark contrast to the unmitigated profligacy embraced by Barack Obama’s White House.

Opposition is growing to the confisctory spending train: Witness the Senate Republican success in delaying the omni-pork, coupled with the aggressive House GOP call this morning for a spending freeze, on top of the growing unease among both liberal and moderate Democrats, on top of the burgeoning Tea Party and Going Galt movements.

Can we hope for change? Yes, we can. In the meantime, feel free to share how you are tightening your belts and practicing the personal responsibility to which our president pays loquacious lip service.

Cube-steak Americans vs. the Wagyu-beef White House

Maybe thrift isn’t dead after all. The Year of the Bottomless Bailout has yielded a much-needed correction in the lives of ordinary Americans. While government fiscal restraint is AWOL in Washington, individual frugality has made a cultural comeback. Better late than never.

In large and small ways, we are cutting back. An online Zogby International survey this week reported that 70 percent of households are foregoing movies and restaurants. Forty percent of those polled said they were delaying the purchase of major items such as automobiles, homes entertainment electronics, or a computer; the same percent said they were giving up vacations. Notably, Reuters pointed out, “nearly 80 percent of younger adults, aged 18-29, said they have scaled back on going out, compared to 55 percent of people 65 years and older.”

Pollster John Zogby called the results “depressing.” I beg to differ. Out of necessity, a consumption-based society is learning to live within its means. For decades, government policies fueled that insatiable appetite — and new government programs are desperately trying to preserve it. But the Obama administration’s frantic efforts to encourage more brainless home-buying, car-buying, and consumer borrowing aren’t producing their desired results. Generational theft, it seems, has a silver lining.

The phenomenon is spreading beyond America’s borders. London-based economic journalist Hamish McRae recently observed: “We may be on the cusp of a big socioeconomic shift. We have had half a century when the developed world has gradually moved away from regarding thrift as a virtue. It has moved at different speeds in different countries, faster in the US and UK than in Germany or China…We have created the institutional structure that has supported this shift: from credit cards to collateralised debt obligations (CDOs). The world has clearly reached a point where it can go no further down that road…The pendulum will swing back. How far and how fast we cannot tell, but we can be sure that debt will be regarded differently a generation from now.”

President Obama, celebrated by his liberal media admirers for a miraculous ability to groove with the common man, hasn’t yet caught on to the new age of individual austerity. As always, he talks a good game of “personal responsibility” and “sacrifice.” But while penny-pinching Americans head to Sonic Drive-Ins for $1 everyday value meals or stay at home for cheap cube-steak dinners (sales of the inexpensive meat are up 10 percent), the White House serves up high-grade Wagyu beef to congressional revelers. The luxury item was on the menu for the bipartisan stimulus dinner in January and was also served up at the governors’ dinner hosted at the White House two weeks ago.

Team Obama’s image experts, perhaps hung over from all the Camelot-recreating Wednesday cocktail parties that are now a signature of the new administration, have fallen down on the job. The man who scolded Americans for wasting energy and turning their thermostats too high still hasn’t lowered his own. “He’s from Hawaii, O.K.?” senior adviser David Axelrod snickered to the New York Times in January. “He likes it warm. You could grow orchids in there.”

In flyover country, the mood could not be more different. Party time is over. I heard from a reader in northwest Arkansas, now upside down on her house with two college-age kids who is preparing to tighten the family belt. President Obama, meet personal responsibility:

“We are ultimately responsible for the mess we are in. If my husband and I have to live in his pick-up and get ready for work at the community gym, so be it. If we lose our jobs, we will move in with [my husband's] mother, and he will hunt and I will garden. We have never been on unemployment, welfare, nor other assistance. We are Americans. Our ancestors fought in the American Revolution, the Civil War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War and his brother fought in Vietnam. Our family has faced tougher foes than this economy and Barak Obama. We will do as true Americans do; we will not whine, we will persevere.”

Waste not, want not: Outside of Washington, it’s the renewed American way.

The GOP's Limbaugh Dilemma

The headline should read

The GOP's Conservative dilemma.

The key statistic that all these blowhards are ignoring is just upstream here. 61% believe that the US gummint CAN go bankrupt. That will soon turn to IS going bankrupt. The conservative values that Rush has uncompromisingly elaborated for decades now will be what we rebuild on, not the "gummint will fix everything AND wipe the baby's ass" when it is clear the gummint can't wipe it's own ass. Just stay healthy and survive the Big Bump and then we reboot to 1776.

"You can't trust a politician with your vote if he doesn't trust you with a gun." Made a lot of sense then and it does now. "If it is time to bury them, it is time to use them."

To change the subject for a moment consider this, the Porkulus Bill we objected to so much recently. Most of the spending is several years from now. The rate that our economy is failing there won't BE a U.S. gummint by then. So what the hell does that bill matter?

Back on subject. What the hell does a gun law matter? Let them pass whatever damn law they want. Anybody with a brain HAS the things they need. All we have to do is survive the chaos that is coming and rebuild from the ground up with the original government the Founders put in place over 200 years ago. Sort of a "system reset". At this point Zero and Pelousy and COmpany can pound sand because nothing they do is gonna matter a bit.

Is Obama Breaking His Vow Of Transparency?

The White House claims that President Obama's administration will be "the most open and transparent in history,"

He wants to claim transparency... He can start by producing his real birth records. Then, if he is still President, he can turn over transcripts of all emails and messages he has gotten on his blackberry. He uses that while he is on our time, then it becomes official business. Can we make FOIA request for it?

Obama will never, ever do either of these of course. He's breaking his promises to the American people left and right - mostly left.

In short, he is a liar and a socialist cannot be trusted at all. I do not think he has America's best interests at heart. I think he has his own best interests as his number one priority, followed closely by his idiotic socialist vision for America.

Elect a crazy council, get crazy results (Detroit/New Zimbabwe council meeting: "Whites Go Home")

It's out in the open now, racism against whites is OK and the derigour (I have no idea how to spell that, but it's a neat word) thing to do these days.

Robert Reich is on You Tube saying that for projects across the country that whites need not apply.

Also that they don't want to give the jobs to "high skilled people that are already professionals or to WHITE MALE construction workers", he wants the jobs to go to the "long term unemployed minorities" not "high skilled professionals", see Video called "Explosive Video Reich, Obamas economic advisor no "White Male Construction Workers"

He states this needs to be done fast, so it looks like there will not be time to train these welfare slackers.

Therefore the schools, bridges etc will be built by those with no knowledge of how to do it.

What Fresh New Horror Comes Our Way?

...One Obama appointee after another hold views that have little relationship to reality despite their academic resumes. Steven Chu, the new Secretary of Energy, is on record saying the coal threatens the environment. Obama’s science advisor, John Holdren, in the 1980s was predicting massive famines because of global warming. It’s one thing to be wrong. It’s another to be wrong and to hold a high level government position.

Other advisors, those men and women who help set policy, are a frightening collection of dedicated socialists and totally loony environmentalists. His most recent proposed addition, Charles W. From Acorn To AIG

Meltdown.

Meltdown

This is the private switching system, utilized by the Federal Reserve, that performs electronic financial transfers.

This is the vault that holds sixty billion of the taxpayers' dollars, which moved to an account owned by American International Group (AIG).

This is troubled insurance giant AIG, a company whose financial instruments undergird much of the world's financial system.

This is an eight-year stock chart of AIG, laid low by the collapse of housing giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and which requires tens of billions in taxpayer bailouts.

This is housing giant Fannie Mae, described by pundits as a "job shop for out-of-work Democrats."

This is Fannie Mae's stock price, the collapse of which devastated the capital-to-asset ratios of banks and insurance companies like AIG (which held five billion dollars in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac equities).

These are Democratic operatives Franklin Raines, Jamie Gorelick and Jim Johnson, the executive management team of Fannie Mae, all of whom were awarded positions after loyal service in the Clinton administration.

These are the pay packages the Democrats awarded themselves, through undeserved bonuses, immense salaries and incentive payments, all based upon pushing huge numbers of subprime loans through Fannie Mae.

These are the total campaign contributions ("investments") Fannie Mae executives made to Democratic Senators Chris Dodd, Barack Obama and John Kerry in order to "fix" federal regulation.

This is a list of the attempts made by the Bush administration starting in 2001 to rein in the out-of-control spending frenzy by Fannie and Freddie.

This is one such hearing in 2004 (YouTube video available), wherein Republicans demanded additional oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac because of the GSEs' rampant accounting scandals, inadequate capital reserves, inappropriate bonuses and hundreds of billions in low-income, no documentation mortgages.

This is Maxine Waters (D-CA), complaining that there is no crisis at Fannie and Freddie; and that attempts to audit the GSEs simply disenfranchise the poor by preventing them from getting subprime mortgages.

This is Barney Frank (D-MA), claiming that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are fine and that oversight is not needed.

These are other Democratic members of Congress.

Each of whom resisted call after call after call to regulate the GSEs, falsely blaming racism, hatred of the poor and redlining -- all on a straight party line.

This is Chris Dodd (D-CT), the powerful member of the Senate Banking Committee, who threatened filibuster after filibuster over additional regulation of the mortgage market (while accepting funds and sweetheart mortgages from the very organizations he was supposed to be regulating).

These are the organizations that profited from subprime mortgages, sold to unqualified individuals -- even those without documentation of citizenship, income or assets -- knowing they could sell the loans to the GSEs. For example, Fannie even accepted a $700,000 mortgage application from a migrant with an annual income of $14,000.

This is President Clinton signing the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), which forced banks to write low-income, zero documentation loans. These loans would then be purchased by Fannie and Freddie and securitized for sale to other financial institutions.

These are the community agitators -- primarily organized through ACORN -- who falsely accused banks of "redlining" (failing to offer mortgages to the urban poor). These groups would pack bank lobbies and harrass customers and employees in order to intimidate the institutions and force the government to strengthen the CRA.

This is the community agitator and ACORN attorney named Barack Obama, who sued Citibank in 1994; one of hundreds of nuisance lawsuits filed by ACORN and its affiliates to loosen mortgage underwriting standards.

These are the Democrats who profited at every step of the mortgage meltdown while blaming George W. Bush for the crisis, and whose continued oversight of the financial system is a disgrace and a mortal danger.

Update: Barney Frank's preemptive prosecution.

Update II: Unsupervised!?!

Tea Party on: Taxpayer revolts in Green Bay, Lafayette, Olathe, and Harrisburg; Plus: Live from Fullerton CA… “Recall the Taxinator!;” Arnie videotapes/DVDs smashes/shredded

By Michelle Malkin  •  March 7, 2009 06:16 PM

Scroll for updates…

The tax-paying rebels are not going away.

In Green Bay, Wisconsin, today an estimated 500 protesters gathered for a Tea Party at Titletown Brewing. Reader David has more at Pork Revolution:

Green Bay reader Natalie was also there. She e-mails a few more photos and a note:

Dear Michelle,

There were families there, big tough guys in their local union# jacket, young college age people, grandparents, single people, everyone was represented, everyone was middle-class. It was great to see and also, to KNOW that for every person who showed up at this Tea Party, there were probably 500 that couldn’t make it….kinda like roaches!

The signs were amazing and I am once again, hopeful for my country and for our way of life.

My parents came to this country (legally!) to escape socialism and I refuse to just let the Obamites walk all over us. I was so happy to see that even those who have enjoyed our freedoms for generations are not taking them for granted!

Thank you for everything you do to keep this country free!

Reader Earl sends a report from Olathe, KS, where an estimated 120 taxpayers came to raise their voices. A few pics:

And in Lafayette, LA, from reader Fred:

In Harrisburg, PA, hundreds more turned out today. And protesters underscored a theme hammered here over the past year — blasting Bush for pre-socializing the economy for Obama:

The event, organized by the Commonwealth Foundation, a politically conservative group, and two local radio talk show hosts, was called the “Harrisburg Tea Party.”

“These are people who believe in limited federal and state government, but who think government has overstepped its limited role in our lives,” said foundation President Matthew Brouillette.

Speakers and participants denounced both Republicans, such as former President George Bush and Sen. Arlen Specter, and Democrats, such as President Barack Obama and Gov. Ed Rendell.

They disliked Mr. Bush’s actions last fall to give federal money to banks that had made poisonous home loans, and criticized Mr. Obama for spending additional billions of taxpayer dollars to prop up General Motors and Chrysler, to help over-leveraged homeowners trying to avoid foreclosure and to help deficit-ridden states with his $787 billion economic stimulus program.

Glenn Reynolds has a good crowd pic from Harrisburg.

Reader Bonnie sends her Harrisburg pics:

Party on!

Reminder:

For new readers who are just learning about the protest movement and want to join, the best organizational resources are Tax Day Tea Party (nationwide April 15 events), Twitter #teaparty, PJTV’s list of upcoming protests, Re-TeaParty (send teabags to Washington and find July 4 events), and TCOT Report. And one more good one: New American Tea Party.

Update 6:23pm Eastern. There’s a big tax revolt protest just underway in Fullerton CA, spearheaded by KFI’s John & Ken. Liveblogging here.

Some of the signs in the crowd:

“Governor Schwarzenegger is a girly man!”
“Recall the Taxinator!”
“No on Poop 1A!”
“Been-A-Dick Arnold”
“How do Politicians Spell Pledge? L-I-E.”
“Born Free, Taxed to Death.”
“Effeminator”

Twitter user Sugar Jones is livetweeting the protest and reports that Schwarzengger’s videotapes and DVDs were sledgehammered and shredded.

California taxpayers are mad.

A commenter below says there’s a huge traffic jam in Fullerton caused by protesters trying to get to the venue. Packed.

PRESIDENTIAL POWERS: Obama Channels Cheney. Now there’s a surprise. . . .

UPDATE: HMM: “I think it’s worth noting that Rush Limbaugh, the infamous crazy-person to whom, according to the president, we listen only at our great peril, has been saying for weeks that Obama would adopt Bush’s national-security policies — especially in the area of secrecy — because Obama wants to take advantage of these very policies. Where does Rush come up with this nutty stuff?”

SO WILL THE ECONOMY WIND UP LOOKING LIKE Bretigne Shaffer’s predictions?

My prediction: By the end of Obama’s first four years in office, the US economy will be in much, much worse shape than it is now. Specifically:

1. The US will have massive inflation. The dollar will lose at least 50% of its value against most goods and services, and certainly against the goods and services most people use every day. This is a very conservative estimate. It will probably be much worse.

2. Unemployment in the US will be worse than it is now. It will be at least in the double digits.

THEY’RE CLAIMING 15,000 AT THE FULLERTON TEA PARTY RALLY:

It’s a lot...

IN THE KANSAS MEADOWLARK, a report on the third weekly Kansas City tea party protest.

Plus, from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Hundreds Protest Bailouts in Harrisburg:

HERE’S A REPORT ON YESTERDAY’S “TEA PARTY” PROTEST IN SALT LAKE CITY, from the Deseret News:

Conjuring the fighting spirit of the country’s founders, a large group of defiant protesters gathered on the west steps of the Capitol rotunda Friday for a “tea party” modeled after the Boston Tea Party of more than 200 years ago. . . . The event was part of what has become known as the Tea Party Movement, a series of rallies and demonstrations taking place in cities around the country to protest increased taxes, budget deficits, the recently passed federal stimulus package and trillion-dollar bailouts of the financial and auto industries. . . . Many in the crowd were there to prompt state lawmakers to pass HJR17, a joint resolution urging Congress to reject any future bailout legislation and stop spending money the federal government does not have.

More Salt Lake City coverage here.

Call to action: Tea Party USA!

Friday Night Fights: Pelosi Pounds Reid... Coulter Hands Olbermann His A$$

After another week of Obama Depression news, the Democratic Congressional Porkfest news, the Obama socialization news, etc. it was nice to find something to chuckle about besides Hillary's embarrassing Russian blooper.

First there was the news that Reid and Pelosi got into a swearing match while fighting for scraps from what once was an economy.
That audience with the Pope last week must have been really impactful... Huh, Nancy?

Then there was Ann Coulter handing Keith Olbermann his a$$ again, and again and again.
At least the entertainment is fun as we watch the Democrats ruin the country, appease the terrorists and flatten the economy.

Analysis: Obama's economic style is unnerving

I’m beginning to think that the only way for Obama to be relected would be for him to cancel the stimulus fiasco, completely take his hands off the economy, and let the bad banks and incompetent businesses fail. The economy might actually begin to recover within four years if government would stay the hell away.

But he won’t do that, and he will give Pelosi and Reid a free hand to accelerate the collapse and ruin.

Like when President Osama referred to a P/E ratio as “profit/earnings ratio?”
lol!

Obama is a colossal fake. One doesn’t have to be an economics major to have heard of price/earnings ratio. The guy is said to have been in classes at the fanciest private school in Honolulu, to have attended Columbua College for two years and Harvard Laws School and to have served on Law Review. How many worth their salt would not know what “price/earnings radios” are or at least know the phrase? God help this country.

'Obama is overwhelmed.' (Obama ally says he's "too tired")

He's not up to the job. He can't party with his buds late into the night and deal with the business on his desk; he hasn't got the depth of knowledge needed to do the job, even marginally competently. He's an arrogant punk, and we are so very screwed.

Is Pelosi evil, mentally ill, or a traitor? She could not possibly be stupid enough not to realize the consequences of her ramblings.

In the DC area we have constantly cases of horrific crimes by illegal aliens and increasingly by legal immigrants many of whom come from enemy nations. Just example a couple of weeks ago: Marcos Reyes Banegas, 25, a Honduran national with no fixed address is charged with rape, sodomy and other offenses against an 8-year-old child. At last report, police were unable to locate him. Apparently he is getting help in eluding the law.

Forcing Out Obama

You are right about our affirmative action president. This is why I have a sneeking suspicion that the courts are keeping the Obama Birth Certificate issue as their ace in the hole. I believe that important people know the truth about Obama’s birth status. I believe that the courts are being told not to hear the case. The word is “Do nothing ‘til you hear from me.”

I believe that if things get much worse in a few months, someone will be given the word to hear the case and that will be the out. He will be shown to have not been born a natural born citizen and blacks will be told that he wasn’t a real African American. He was a sham. That will prevent the riots. That will remove the imposter. That will remove the stain of America being a racist country. We all win. But then somebody has to fix the problem.

Also, perhaps the truth of the situation is what really keeps Obama up at night.

Obama Just Doesn't Get It

O only won by about 4%. I think there was a larger percent of conservatives that just stayed home because they had no real choice in the election. If the GOP gets there head out of their a$$ and runs a real conservative in the next election O and the dems will get destroyed. Only a small percent of Americans a really stupid.

Here in Toledo we have about a 15% unemployment rate and it is going to get far worse. One of my friends is a union painter and as of tomorrow his employer has no work even the hospitals do not have work for him at this time. As you can guess they a democrats because of the union. However they do not even want to talk politics because they know how bad they f up.

When unemployment is 20 to 25 percent here in 2 to 3 years, there is no way GWB can get the blame. The congress and O have created a economic mess that will last for years and is not even being fully felt yet. They have created a vicious downward cycle with the spending and the coming tax increases and the more they spend the worse it will get.

Lucky for me I worked very hard when GWB was in office and am now a RN. The economy is so bad here if you do not have a job as a nurse already it is hard to find one. This is not so in other parts of the country that are starving for RNs. I find myself in a position were I am able to stock up on food and water and I am buying one once silver coins just in case ( remember FDR confiscated the gold from the people not the silver). I am not being paranoid just prepared.

The faster the Dems push their socialism on the people the quicker the people will see it does not work, because more businesses will fail. The people will realize that they need business to work so they can eat. It is that simple.

THOUGHTS ON OBAMA, THE RIGHT, and being “tired.”

Plus, this:

I have this picture of President Obama sitting in the White House, thinking I hate my job. He was all about running for President. What did he really know about being President?

Less than he knows now, that’s for sure.

LOTS MORE TEA PARTY PROTEST NEWS rounded up here. Meanwhile, Tom Blumer complains of insufficient media coverage.

I suppose he’s got a point, but these protests are being well-covered in local media around the country. In terms of influencing Congress, I’d rather have a few hundred people march in each district than have a hundred thousand march in Washington, DC, even if the latter got a lot of coverage. Believe me, Green Bay congressman Steve Kagen knows there are people in his district who are upset, now. Getting 1,200 people who don’t usually protest to turn out and march on a Congressional office makes a point.

Meanwhile, here’s a blog report from Green Bay. And some more pictures.

UPDATE: Robert McManus emails: “How long . . . before the tea parties become yet another manifestation of America’s indelible racism? they seem to be getting a little traction, so it can’t be long.”

I don’t know. Let’s ask her:

A BLOG REPORT on the Lafayette, Louisiana tea party protest. And here’s a Flickr gallery.

A REPORT on the Monterey, California tea party protest:

A present-day version of the Boston Tea Party revolt took place at Monterey’s Window on the Bay Saturday, taking aim at the massive federal stimulus spending plan.

Demonstators brought American flags, tea bags, and even pig costumes to voice their anger over the stimulus plan, saying it is laden in pork-barrel spending and could trigger inflation. . . .

The watchdog group Taxpayers for Common Sense released it’s latest review of the spending plan earlier this week. In it, Central Coast congressman Sam Farr is listed as being a part of nearly $24 million dollars worth of earmarks, with more than $8 million credited to Farr alone.

More here. And here’s a blog report, with photos.

Plus, video:

TEA PARTY UPDATE: I’ve already mentioned Harrisburg and Fullerton, but now here’s a news report from Green Bay:

Hundreds of protesters gathered Saturday afternoon outside Titletown Brewing Co., replacing Boston Harbor with the Fox River for a Green Bay tea party to rally against government programs and federal bailouts. . . . Speakers at the rally included Marc Savard, who is running for the 8th Congressional District (to unseat incumbent U.S. Rep. Steve Kagen, D-Appleton) and WTAQ talk show host Jerry Bader.

Though coined as a taxpayer rally, taxes aren’t the only issue at hand, Bader said, it’s also about having a government that allows citizens to be self-reliant.

“Conservatism is based on I’ll take care of me, you take care of you. … This is often translated to mean we’re not compassionate — nothing could be further from the truth,” Bader said.

“Picking my pocket and deciding what’s compassion, is not compassion. When you are forced to be compassionate at the barrel of a gun, we have a word for that, it’s robbery.”

The mass of protesters marched into downtown Green Bay to bring their message to Kagen at his office at 700 E. Walnut St.

Michael Litscher has posted a photo set on Flickr. Here’s one. “Don’t Spread My Wealth: Spread My Work Ethic.”

Plus, video:

Formerly, the “highest form of patriotism,” now the preserve of “domestic terrorist wannabes.” Boy, things sure change with an election!

UPDATE: Plus, if you don’t support Obama’s economic plan, you’re a traitor. Ah, for the good old Bush days, when it was wrong to question people’s patriotism. . .

“This party atmosphere sends the wrong message”

By Michelle Malkin  •  March 7, 2009 11:27 AM

The Obama cocktail party-and-conga line bonanza is coming under scrutiny:

An organization that serves as a watchdog on the U.S. government for American taxpayers has launched a campaign to uncover exactly how much tax money is being spent on parties at the Obama White House.

The president has shown a penchant for lavish galas, such as the huge assembly orchestrated in Denver when he accepted his party’s nomination for president – an outdoor gathering for some 75,000 featuring a stage with Greek columns. He also held a multimillion-dollar victory celebration in Chicago, and his fancy inauguration cost an estimated $170 million, according to ABC News.

Now, Larry Klayman, founder of Freedom Watch, told WND today he’s seeking information about the partying in the White House since the Obamas moved in…

…Klayman said the reports of the partying at the White House, “with the likes of Steve Wonder and other high priced entertainment stars,” will be the focus of document requests being submitted to the General Services Administration. The requests will seek to determine how much taxpayer money is being used.

“Barack and Michelle Obama have been throwing taxpayer funded parties nearly every night with their ‘friends’ and supporters, with Michelle Obama even exhorting them not to ‘break’ White House property,” Klayman’s announcement said.

“This party atmosphere sends the wrong message to the American people. As the Obama-Clinton crowd party on, the American people are suffering greatly,” Klayman said.
