Obama Concludes U.S. Can't Beat Taliban; May Wait Until Late November for Afghan Decision

DELUSIONS OF POWERLESSNESS:

Even more risible, though, is the claim that the administration “is going to speak truth to power.” Hello, Valerie? Your boss is the president of the United States! No one is more powerful. As we suggested Friday, it really seems as if Obama and his men do not understand what it means to be president. Because their power is constrained–thank you, Founding Fathers!–they labor under the delusion that they are powerless.

Yet while this is all hilarious, it is also scary when you think it through. Great power entails great responsibility. There is little to suggest that Obama and his aides appreciate their responsibility, and much, including their incessant complaining that the previous president did a lousy job, to suggest an attitude of total irresponsibility.

The job of those in power is not to “speak truth to power,” though it would be nice if they spoke the truth once in a while.

Ouch.

UPDATE: Reader Allen S. Thorpe writes:

The link to Taranto’s taunt of Valerie Jarrett was timed well with Barbara Curtis’ latest post at PJM. These people are so steeped in Saul Alinsky that they fail to realize that they were written for people trying to topple the system and mau-mau the flakcatchers. But now THEY ARE the flack-catchers and they obviously never really understood the problems of governing. There’s a story in Newsweek about how Obama wasn’t going to be like Redford in The Candidate wondering, “What now?” (Maybe I found it on Instapundit.) But he’s finding out that governing by fiat doesn’t work for long in this country. The tags for his presidency so far seem to be Radical, Naive, FDR, Jimmy Carter, Socialism and Screw Up.

Heh. And ouch. Yeah, Alinsky’s a set of rules for annoying The Man. Not much help once you are The Man.

DDT is an excellent pesticide, completely non-toxic to humans, and long lasting.

It was demonized in the early 60’s by one of the first “environmentalists,” Rachel Carson in her book “Silent Spring.” Some birds who were exposed to DDT laid eggs with thin shells.

Meanwhile, the chemist who came up with DDT showed that it was harmless to humans by drinking a solution of it. Here’s an interview with Michael Crichton just for a start:

So, much better over here; thanks for all of your good wishes. I think a combination of a super-busy weekend, some lapses with the vitamins and a bug all created a sort of perfect storm over here -was never feverish, just lots of joint pain- and for some reason today my tongue hurts, but otherwise, the ship is aright.

But I had some serious news over the weekend, about some friends of ours.

1) Adam, age 18, was away at school and feeling short of breath. First they thought it was a cold, then they thought it was pneumonia. Then they discovered lymphoma within the pleura of his lungs. After removing 5 liters of fluid from his chest cavity, Adam is comfortable, but he is immediately undergoing chemotherapy. The doctors at his hospital were wonderful and told him that as the chemo “recipe” for his treatment is constant, he can be treated at a local hospital or clinic near his school. “Go back to class and try to continue school with the chemo, if you can,” they told him. “School and people may be a distraction. Either way, we’ll get you through this.”

Adam’s cancer treatment began within 6 days of his diagnosis. Doctors are optimistic.

2) Gene, age 80, a man who never likes to sit still and who only just retired this autumn from his “retirement” job on a road crew, which he took on ten years ago because retiring at 70 seemed boring, to him. He found a lump on his torso and had it check out; also diagnosed with lymphoma this week. The doctors are confident the cancer is not advanced and that -being a robust, optimistic sort who has never been sick a day in his life- Gene will withstand the treatment easily and that there should be no problem eradicating this cancer.

Gene’s cancer treatment will begin within 8 days of his diagnosis. Doctors are optimistic.

3) John, age 67, semi-retired (he drives a tourist shuttle in the summer) was experiencing breathlessness. He could not finish a stress-test and was immediately scheduled for (depending on conditions) either the insertion of two stents or a bypass. It was discovered that his blockages required a triple bypass, which he underwent with flying colors, yesterday.

John’s heart surgery came within a week of his failed stress test, less than two weeks from his initial breathlessness. His prognosis: excellent.

These are all family members of friends, and they’re all living in different states, and I think it’s pretty remarkable that each one of these men were able to experience such fast and optimistic -dare I say “can-do” – responses to their situations, without anyone interfering with them or their family about treatment options, or age considerations.

Nobody looked at Gene and said, “well, I dunno, you’re 80, man. Lymphoma treatment is costly, and you’re not exactly contributing to the tax coffers, anymore; you’ve had a good run. Kiss your wife goodbye and take the red pill, already. Do it for America!”

No one looked at John and said, “hmmmm, you’re 67; a bypass might keep you alive for another 15 years, and there will be blood thinners and other meds, check-ups and such. That’s going to be expensive, so maybe we don’t do a bypass on you. Just you know, walk slow and don’t move around too much. We can give you a wheelchair and some oxygen, for a while…”

I don’t want to say that Obama’s is a “can’t-do” America, but I do not see how any of these people could be better served under Obamacare.

For the past few months, we’ve heard that the H1N1 virus was a killer that was going to wipe out a huge swath of the global population. We were warned that everyone must, must get the government-provided vaccination. Then there weren’t enough vaccinations to go around. Then the president decided to declare a national emergency about H1N1 because, apparently, not enough people were sufficiently freaked out about this latest “crisis.”

Nothing about the way the government has handled the Great Big Swine Flu Scare of 2009 has left me encouraged about how it will handle health care matters for individuals.

For that matter, nothing about how the government has handled the “Cash for Clunkers” program, or the investigations into ACORN (oh, wait, there haven’t been any) or has [not] brought the budget in on time (which is, you know…their fundamental job) convinces me that they will be able to do anything but completely screw up our healthcare system.

Now, it’s true, Adam’s parents have good (not congress-critter level, but good) health insurance. Gene, thanks to his union/pension situation which I don’t wholly understand, also has very good coverage. John’s coverage is Medicare with supplemental coverage. And it’s true that not everyone in America has health insurance. The number of uninsured seems to range from 15 million to 45 million depending on which politician you’re talking to, on which day. Let’s go with Obama’s most recent figure of 30 million, just to keep to the average. That’s 10% of the population.

So, let us stipulate that that 10% of our population needs health insurance, and let us further stipulate that costs are too high; that there does need to be some limited health insurance reform that should include interstate competition and perhaps limited tort reform as well.

Why can’t our congress offer their own insurance plan (which is so great they have no intention of giving it up to stand in lines with the rest of us) to the underinsured, at a reduced rate, based on a sliding scale? Surely a government that believes it can treat 300 million Americans on a case-by-case basis can efficiently insure 30 million of its needier citizens on a case-by-case basis, and administer to them some appropriately priced insurance? Surely that would -in the long run- cost less than overhauling the entire healthcare system? Surely managing healthcare for 30 million people is easier than managing health care for 300 million?

Let someone who can pay $20.00 a month pay it, someone who can afford $100.00 a month pay that, with the government covering the rest of their premiums and assisting with co-pays, where needed. Why is that considered not doable, while a systemic and dubious overhaul, with government bureaucrats deciding on treatments for the masses, is seen as doable and desirable, even in the face of daily evidence that the government cannot do the most fundamental of its jobs?

I would much rather see my taxes go to the purchasing of insurance for 30 million than for this unworkable boondoggle that the president and congress are determined to shove down our throats, even as we’re screaming we don’t want it.

Please pray for Adam, Gene and John, if you will. Great health care can still use prayers!

Who Is Barack Hussein Obama? Obama in his own words

This book was written several years (1995) before Obama campaigned for President of the United States. As a result of being the first African-American to be elected president of the Harvard Law Review, Obama received an advance from a publisher to write a book. The book primarily addresses the life of Obama and other people of color in their seemingly constant struggle to overcome what he portrays as control from “whites”. There is substantial profanity and language that might be considered inappropriate and offensive to some people.

To say this book is a candid snapshot of a man, the most powerful man in the world, is an understatement. I neither endorse, nor condemn, this book but I will say that it gave me a lesser opinion of the man. He is more of a racist than any white person I have ever known. He wears his color on his shoulder and every look, comment, or gesture from a white person is instantly interpreted as having racist overtones. He is yet another black man with a chip on his shoulder that condemns whites throughout the world as forever oppressing people of color. It is a sad commentary from a man who was later able to convince millions of people that he is the answer to their problems.

I have selected various passages to include in this article and have noted the page where they appear in his book. Most open-minded people might agree that these passages have been written by a person who has yet to reconcile his background with his present and future in a manner that will eliminate his own deep-rooted prejudice against whites.

Page XV of Introduction: “I ceased to advertise my mother’s race at the age of twelve or thirteen, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites”.

Page 52: “I began to notice that Cosby never got the girl on I Spy, that the black man on Mission Impossible spent all his time underground…there was nobody like me in the Sears, Roebuck Christmas catalog…that Santa was a white man…I still trusted my mother’s love-but I now faced the prospect that her account of the world, and my father’s place in it, was somehow incomplete”.

Page 81: “There are white folks, and then there are ignorant mother-f—–s like you, I had told the coach before walking off the court that day”.

Page 86: “Only Malcolm X’s autobiography seemed to offer something different. His repeated acts of self-creation spoke to me, the blunt poetry of his words, his unadorned insistence on respect, promised a new and uncompromising order, martial in its discipline, forged through sheer force of will…He spoke of a wish he’d once had, the wish that the white blood that ran through him, there by act of violence, might somehow be expunged”.

Page 93: “Junkie. Pothead. That’s where I’d been headed: the final, fatal role of the would-be black man. Except the highs hadn’t been about that, me trying to prove what a down brother I was. Not by then, anyway. I got high for just the opposite effect, something that could push questions of who I was out of my mind…”

Page 98: “Surviving classes. Finding a well-paying gig after graduation. Trying to get laid. I had stumbled upon one of the well-kept secrets about black people: that most of us weren’t interested in revolt; that most of us were tired of thinking about race all the time; that if we preferred to keep to ourselves it was mainly because that was the easiest way to stop thinking about it, easier than spending all your time mad or trying to guess whatever it was that white folks were thinking about you”.

Page 99: “I’m not black”, Joyce said. “I’m multiracial.”…”It’s not white people who are making me choose…they’re willing to treat me like a person. No–it’s black people who always have to make everything racial. They’re the ones making me choose.”

Page 100: “…we’re wearing a Brooks Brothers suit and speak impeccable English and yet have somehow been mistaken for an ordinary nigger.”

Page 124: “The emotions between the races could never be pure; even love was tarnished by the desire to find in the other some element that was missing in ourselves. Whether we sought out our demons or salvation, the other race would always remain just that: menacing, alien, and apart.”

Page 229: Called whites “cigar-chomping crackers”.

Page 270: “I try to remember… the blood rush of a high school brawl. The swagger that carries me into a classroom drunk or high, knowing that my teachers will smell beer or reefer on my breath, just daring them to say something…whenever I split another boy’s lip or raced down a highway with gin clouding my head.”

Page 292: “The title of Reverend Wright’s sermon that morning was ‘The Audacity of Hope’…It is this world …where white folk’ greed runs a world in need…” Author Note: Obama’s second book is titled “The Audacity of Hope”.

Page 295: “…I wasn’t ever going to amount to anything…at the age of fifteen, busted for grand larceny auto theft…”

Google this and see for yourself, Zer0’s book is on the internet:

“…I wasn’t ever going to amount to anything…at the age of fifteen, busted for grand larceny auto theft…”

10 Facts Every American Should Know About Speaker Pelosi's 1,990-Page Gov't Takeover of Health..

1. RAISES TAXES ON MIDDLE CLASS FAMILIES. Speaker Pelosi’s health care bill imposes a range of tax increases on families with income below $250,000, breaking a promise made by President Obama. Tax increases on middle class families include: an individual mandate tax of up to 2.5 percent of income for taxpayers earning as little as $9,350; repeal of a tax break on medicine purchased with funds from an HSA (health savings account); limits to tax relief through FSAs (flexible spending accounts); taxes on medical devices that will inevitably be passed on to consumers; and a new tax on all insurance policies.

2. MASSIVE CUTS TO MEDICARE BENEFITS FOR SENIORS. Despite grave warnings from CBO, FactCheck.org, and the independent Lewin Group that cuts to Medicare of the magnitude included in Speaker Pelosi’s bill would have a negative impact on seniors’ benefits and choices, Speaker Pelosi’s health care bill stays the course and cuts Medicare by hundreds of billions of dollars.

3. NO PROTECTIONS FOR SMALL BUSINESSES. Speaker Pelosi’s health care bill claims to exempt small businesses from the steep eight percent ‘pay or play’ employer mandate. The facts tell a different story. Using Census data compiled by the Small Business Administration, this so-called ‘exemption’ hammers small employers with only, on average, 17 or more employees to new taxes and mandates. The outfits affected employ 70 percent of all small business employees, or 42.3 million workers. Adding to the assault on small businesses, the bill does not index the small business “exemption” amounts, meaning more and more small businesses will be ensnared by this job-killing employer mandate each year.

4. INCREASES THE COST OF HEALTH INSURANCE. Imposing a new $2 billion tax on insurance policies will be passed on to patients in the form of higher premiums. Changes to the Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit will, according to estimates by CBO, will raise Medicare Part B premiums by $25 billion and Part D premiums by 20 percent. And imposing an unfunded mandate on the states to pay for the bill’s Medicaid expansion will shift the burden of this expansion on state taxpayers who may experience tax increases to cover the cost.

5. USES GIMMICKS TO HIDE BUDGET-BUSTING COST, PILES UP DEBT ON FUTURE GENERATIONS. Speaker Pelosi’s health care bill claims to be deficit neutral, but uses budget gimmickry to hide its massive total cost. Working families across America know they cannot simply decide that a bill they get in the mail doesn’t exist, but that’s exactly what congressional Democrats are doing. In order to meet the President’s ‘target’ spending total of $900 billion, Democrats have simply swept costly provisions under the rug, including the $245 billion ‘doc fix.’

6. IMPOSES JOB-KILLING EMPLOYER MANDATES. Additional taxes on employers and new government mandates that dictate acceptable insurance will place new and crushing burdens on employers. These are burdens that will ultimately fall squarely on the backs of workers in the form of reduced wages, fewer hours or lost employment. CBO agrees that "[e]mployees largely bear the cost of... play-or-pay fees in the form of lower wages." According to the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation’s largest small business association, an employer mandate of this magnitude will disproportionately impact small businesses, triggering up to 1.6 million lost jobs. Two-thirds of those jobs would be shed by small businesses.

7. TILTS THE PLAYING FIELD IN FAVOR OF THE GOVERNMENT-RUN INSURANCE COMPANY. Speaker Pelosi’s health care bill promises not to give the government-run plan advantages over private insurers in the market, but the opposite is true. The bill provides billions in start-up funding for the government-run plan, and while it requires the plan to repay the money over time it does not require the plan to pay interest on this “loan.” This interest-free, taxpayer-subsidized loan is potentially worth millions of dollars and tilts the playing field in favor of the government-run plan.

8. THREATENS CASH-STRAPPED STATES WITH UNFUNDED MANDATES. Speaker Pelosi’s health care bill swells the number of Americans on the government rolls by expanding Medicaid eligibility. Medicaid is financed through a federal-state partnership, but the bill dumps nearly ten percent of the mandated expansion included in the bill onto the states. States, already struggling with fiscal constraints, would be left on the hook for billions of dollars due to this unfunded mandate.

9. CREATES A NEW MONSTROSITY IN THE TAX CODE. Starting in 2011, Speaker Pelosi’s health care bill imposes a 5.4 percent tax on adjusted gross income above $500,000 for individuals and $1 million for married couples. Yet, the dollar amounts for which the tax kicks in are not indexed for inflation. We’ve seen this horror film before: the Alternative Minimum Tax, another Frankenstein’s monster of the tax code, also wasn’t indexed for inflation and now affects millions of middle class families with incomes below the Democrat’s surtax.

10. MISSES AN OPPORTUNITY TO CURTAIL JUNK LAWSUITS. Speaker Pelosi’s health care bill misses a critical opportunity to rein in junk lawsuits and costly defensive medicine. The bill includes only a voluntary grant program to deal with the medical liability crisis instead of including real reform, which would produce tens of billions of dollars in savings, improve efficiency in our health care system and reduce costs for patients and providers.

“The word ‘dithering’ has really attached itself to Obama.”

TAKE THAT, SENATE: The House Nationalized Healthcare Bill is 1,990 pages long. That’s roughly 33% longer than the Senate bill.

UPDATE: Access Denied. Plus this: “This is a public space on the steps of the Capitol and the Mall.” But as with “public healthcare,” some members of the public turn out to be more equal than others.

The elitist in the White House is upset with the commoners for criticizing his £45,000 ($74,000) date night in New York City during the worst recession since the Great Depression .

“The notion that I just couldn’t take my wife out on a date without it being a political issue was not something I was happy with.”

The Daily Mail reported at the time that Obama’s date night in New York City cost £45,000.
It was not your average night out on the town.

The Daily Mail reported:

That’s for three private jets, two helicopter rides, extra planes for security and closing roads for motorcade

It was a campaign pledge that Barack Obama didn’t dare break – a promise to take his wife out for dinner and a show once the election was over.

So on the weekend he booked a babysitter, asked Michelle to put on a little black dress and swept her off for a date…

The romantic jaunt is estimated to have cost the taxpayer more than £45,000 in transport and security costs – because the date was in New York.

The President used three planes, one to carry the couple and two to ferry aides and reporters all the way from Washington.
The cost of each flight was thought to be nearly £15,000.

The bill was pushed even higher with the use of two helicopters, one to take the Obamas to catch their plane in Washington and another to zip the party into Manhattan from JFK airport.

And, it seems like it was just yesterday that Barack Obama was telling us that everyone was going to have to sacrifice for the greater good.
Well… Some of us have to sacrifice anyway.

President Obama took the White House Press Pool with him today to Dover Air Force Base for a photo-op with slain troops as their plane arrived. Only one of the fifteen families allowed the president to use the occasion for his photo-op.

Liz Cheney discussed President Obama’s photo-op today at Dover Air Force Base with John Gibson.

Here’s the partial transcript:

There’s lying. There’s a pattern here… This White House needs to understand… every single day you ask them to serve without the resources they ask for without the reinforcements they need they are in more danger. I believe there is dithering going on and there is waffling…

(On the president’s photo-op at Dover) But I think that what President Bush used to do is do it without the cameras. And I don’t understand sort of showing up with the White House Press Pool with photographers and asking family members if you can take pictures. That’s really hard for me to get my head around. I think its an honorable and important thing for us to pay tribute. There’s no greater sacrifice people make to the nation. It was a surpsising way for the president to choose to do this. I’d like to add the most important way for the president to pay tribute to those who sacrifice is to back them up.

Tommy Douglas: Not Dead Enough

There are 1,100 vaccination clinics open in Alberta today.

Manitoba opened to the general public yesterday. Pharmacists can give the vaccine.

And in Saskatchewan?

Nope. Allowing anyone even a sniff of vaccine outside of the Official Health Care System would be "two-tier" health care. So if you want a vaccination for H1N1, you have another two week wait before the vaccine is "released" to the general public. And in Saskatoon, they're going to have everyone - which will include many who are incubating and infectious - congregate at a single site Prairieland Park) to receive it.

Beauty.

Also, every province is giving the seasonal flu shot at the same time - except Saskatchewan. (You see, our superiors in SaskHealth make these decisions for us.) I've also been told via the grapevine that flu shot recipients may have to watch a video first. If true, I would suggest this historic image for the opening frame.

Think of it as your union bonus.

Culture of Corruption: Obama U.S. Attorney nominee clams up

By Michelle Malkin  •  October 28, 2009 10:23 AM

What is this woman hiding?

Two weeks ago, I pointed you to the festering corruption scandal involving President Obama’s US Attorney nominee in Colorado, Stephanie Villafuerte.

Villafuerte is entangled in the railroading of Denver ICE agent Cory Voorhis — whom federal prosecutors tried to punish after he blew the whistle on sweetheart deals for criminal illegal aliens during the 2006 gubernatorial campaign. A jury acquitted Voorhis of all federal charges. He’s trying to get his job back. At least one of his supervisors has admitted lying.

Villafuerte served on Democrat gubernatorial candidate Bill Ritter’s campaign team while on leave from the Denver D.A.’s office and from all local news accounts was deeply involved in the witchhunt against agent Voorhis.

But she refuses to answer any questions about her role in the case.

And now she is poised to take over as US Attorney.

Transparency? Ethics? Accountability? Anyone?

From the Denver Post, unresolved contradictions and double standards:

President Barack Obama’s nominee as Colorado’s next U.S. attorney told the FBI two years ago that she never spoke to anyone in the Denver District Attorney’s Office about an illegal immigrant who became a controversial figure in the 2006 gubernatorial race.

FBI interview summaries describe Stephanie Villafuerte as saying she had “no conversations” with anyone at the DA’s office about the illegal immigrant, Carlos Estrada-Medina.

But the FBI apparently never asked Villafuerte, the former chief deputy DA who was then working for Bill Ritter’s campaign, why she left a phone message for DA spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough that Kimbrough noted was about Estrada-Medina. The FBI also apparently never asked her about the nature of a series of phone calls she exchanged over the next two days with Kimbrough and First Assistant DA Chuck Lepley. Those calls came both before and after an order by Lepley to a subordinate to run a criminal history check of Estrada-Medina in a restricted federal database.

It can be a crime to access the National Crime Information Center computer for a non-law-enforcement purpose.

In 2006 and 2007, the FBI was investigating who ran a check on Estrada-Medina’s name through the database after Bob Beauprez’s gubernatorial campaign ran a television ad confirming that Estrada-Medina, a suspected heroin dealer and illegal immigrant, had once received a plea deal under the name Walter Ramo while Ritter was Denver’s district attorney.

Eventually, a federal immigration agent named Cory Voorhis was charged with running an NCIC check on Estrada-Medina and providing the result to the Beauprez campaign. He was later acquitted at trial.

But the 10-year veteran, who maintained he accessed the NCIC with his supervisor’s permission because Voorhis was upset over plea deals made by Ritter’s office with deportable immigrants, lost his job and is now fighting through an administrative proceeding to get it back.

Law enforcement authorities were aware that the Denver DA’s office and a Texas investigator had also run Estrada-Medina’s name through the NCIC. No one in those offices was charged with a crime.

Team Obama’s rotten Justice Department is going with the full evasion strategy.

The Colorado GOP wants answers — and so should you:

Colorado GOP chairman Dick Wadhams on Monday asked the Senate Judiciary Committee in Washington to demand answers from Colorado U.S. attorney nominee Stephanie Villafuerte about whether she may have acted inappropriately during the 2006 gubernatorial campaign.

“Colorado deserves better than a U.S. attorney who apparently might have used her former employer, the Denver district attorney’s office, for blatant partisan political purposes to help Gov. Ritter in violation of the law,” Wadhams wrote in a letter to committee chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., and ranking Republican Jeff Sessions of Alabama.

Villafuerte, currently Bill Ritter’s deputy chief of staff, has declined to answer questions from The Denver Post about what types of conversations she had with representatives from the Denver DA’s office in the days before and after a restricted federal database was accessed and whether that information was obtained to help Ritter’s campaign. FBI interview records do not indicate that she ever was asked about the access by the investigating agent.

Villafuerte, then a chief deputy Denver district attorney, had taken a leave of absence to work on Ritter’s campaign. Ritter is the former Denver DA.

The Post reported Friday that statements by Villafuerte and other DA representatives — as described by an agent in recently obtained FBI interview summaries — do not always comport with available records, and the summaries portray the witnesses offering conflicting explanations on some key points.

Villafuerte has declined to speak about the issue over the past two years, and last week, Ritter spokesman Evan Dreyer said the U.S. Department of Justice has asked her not to talk to the media until after the nomination process is over.

And whaddya know? Voorhis has now been conveniently gagged by an administrative order.

The Denver Post editorial board wants answers from the Senate Judiciary Committee — and so should you:

Over the past two years, Villafuerte has declined requests from The Post to describe her contact with former colleagues at the Denver District Attorney’s office around the time the database was accessed.

But the Senate Judiciary Committee needs to ask her about it. The public deserves to know more details about the incident before Villafuerte gets any closer to becoming the state’s top federal prosecutor.

Post reporter Karen E. Crummy obtained FBI records about the incident, which took place when Villafuerte was working for Bill Ritter’s gubernatorial campaign. The controversy began when Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob Beauprez ran an ad that said Ritter, the former Denver district attorney and the Democratic candidate for governor, had given an illegal immigrant a lenient plea bargain. That immigrant went on, the ad said, to commit a sex crime in California.

The Ritter camp contended that in order to link the criminal, Carlos Estrada-Medina, to crimes in both Colorado and California, a restricted federal criminal database would have to have been accessed. Ritter’s campaign was incensed, and called for the Colorado Bureau of Investigation to investigate.

Eventually, Cory Voorhis, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent, was charged with improperly accessing the database. He was found not guilty at trial, but lost his job anyway.

Meanwhile, we had other questions that quickly arose. How did Ritter’s campaign know the dots could only be connected by accessing the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database? And what to make of a series of phone calls that Villafuerte, then working for Ritter’s campaign, made to the Denver district attorney’s office around the time the DA’s office accessed Estrada-Medina’s records?

What precisely was the nature of Villafuerte’s interaction with the DA’s office when the NCIC was accessed? Did Villafuerte ask her former co-workers in the DA’s office to access it to confirm the Estrada- Medina information?

Villafuerte, according to FBI interview summaries, said she had “no conversations” with anyone about Estrada-Medina. But Lynn Kimbrough, a DA spokeswoman who got a phone message from Villafuerte at the time in question, noted the message pertained to Estrada-Medina.

Why was Villafuerte calling Kimbrough about Estrada-Medina? And what was the content of the phone conversations or messages that Villafuerte had with or left for Kimbrough and First Assistant DA Chuck Lepley during the following days?

For the last 50 years they have badly wanted a socialist anti-American coward left wing liberal to be President because a person like that represents the people in the media and every anti-American evil they believe in. They finally got this person in Obama and they made him President. They are never going to turn against him, never.

Why Dede Scozzafava should drop out today. “It has become obvious that in a straight head’s up race between Conservative Doug Hoffman and Democrat Bill Owens, Hoffman would win in a walk. It is equally obvious that there is no set of circumstances under which the GOP candidate, Dede Scozzofava, can win this election.
NY-23 Across America? “The key fact that sticks out in my mind about Doug Hoffman’s incredible momentum in NY-23 is that his election would not have been possible had he been the Republican nominee.”  Hoffman's success in the polls is built on the back among strong support among independents and (primarily) not Republican regulars disgusted at Scozzafava.
"Peggy Noonan published a column about this today. The fact is, the "liberal moment" has passed as the voters have found out that it was an excuse for the Washington Democrats, led by Obama, Pelosi, Frank, and Reid, to go on a spending rampage that makes George W. Bush look as the second coming of Pericles. But that doesn't mean that voters trust the Clown Shoes Party. That would be us, the GOP. Palin figured that out. So did other, smart Conservatives. That's what the Left doesn't get yet... They are still in their circular conversation mode, convinced that talking points, jacked up polling,  and Soros money will save them from popular anger.  "

Happy Halloween moonbats…
Patriot Joe Lieberman will back Republicans in the 2010 midterm elections.
lieberman
Independent Senator Joe Lieberman announced today that he will back some Republicans in the 2010 midterm elections.
Lieberman currently chairs the Commerce Committee under the Democratic majority.
ABC reported:

Sounding more like an independent than a Democrat, Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., tells ABC News he will campaign for some Republican candidates during the 2010 midterm elections and may not seek the Democratic Senate nomination when he runs for re-election in 2012.

“I probably will support some Republican candidates for Congress or Senate in the election in 2010. I’m going to call them as I see them,” Lieberman said in an ABC News “Subway Series” interview aboard the U.S. Capitol Subway System.

Lieberman infuriated fellow Democrats in 2008 by supporting Republican presidential nominee John McCain as well as congressional candidates Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y.

The moves nearly cost Lieberman his chairmanship of the Commerce Committee, but after promising to be a loyal Democrat he was allowed to keep his gavel.

This ought to really spice up the Halloween weekend for the nutroots.

‘Jobs Created or Saved’ Is White House Fantasy: Caroline Baum.  OOPS: Hey, Ma’am, where are the jobs? Twice as many Californians lost jobs in one week in October than put to work in nine months by the “stimulus”.

CBS News: Obama's Just Kinda Making Stuff Up About Jobs "Saved or Created"

—Ace

Two big points I want to make:

First of all, that Florida day care center that claimed Spendulus money "saved or created" 129 jobs when in fact the money they got was simply used to give all existing employees raises?

That's not a "mistake."

When the WH demanded that those who received Spendulus money "report" back on how many jobs were "saved or created," they insisted upon a nonsensical rule: If a single dollar of Spendulus was spent on an employee's salary, whether that employee was a new employee or an old one, that gets counted as a job "saved or created." If he's a new employee, that job was created. If he's an existing employee, that job was saved.

For $1.

Yes, $1. Because the nonsensical rules the White House told these people to count "saved or created" jobs by simply stated: If any employee's salary is paid, in whole or in part (any part!), count that as a job "saved or created" by the spending.

And then report that number back to us.

Note that the White House's rules do not seek to discover which jobs really were "saved or created." To come to that conclusion, one would need a set of more rigorous rules -- which excluded some jobs from the "saved or created" category, rather than attempting to include them all under that rubric.

For example, you'd need a rule like: "If the funding pays more than 10% of an employee's salary, and the management feels the employee would not have been hired, or would have been fired, but for that spending, then this job should be counted as 'saved or created. "

They didn't do that. They didn't set a 10% threshold, or even a 1% threshold. A single dollar counts as saving or creating a job.

Further, they never asked if the employee would be out of a job but for that spending.

Because they didn't want to actually find out which jobs were saved or created. They just wanted as large a number as possible, even if it made no sense, and had nothing at all to do with jobs really affected by the spending.

So, if a factory gets $5000, and divides that, $50 a worker, among 100 workers, you know how many jobs were "saved or created" according to Obama?

100. Even though $5000 obviously doesn't cover a single part-time salary, let alone 100 full-time salaries.

If a factory gets $5000, and divides that, $1 a worker, among 5000 workers, Obama's rules say 5000 jobs were saved or created.

And note that in neither case does the employee have to be a new one. It could be a guy working there for 30 years, whom the company would never even consider firing. Per the rules, if he gets 50 bucks, or even a single dollar, his job was right there "saved" by Bonny Prince Barack.

So the Florida day-care center that gave themselves all a small raise didn't make a "mistake." They reported the numbers precisely as Obama -- who is signing their checks, after all -- dictated.

The problem is not a "mistake" in implementation. The problem is that rules are sham from the start, contrived to force an absurd conclusion.

The second point is this: At no point in all of American history has the metric ever been what jobs a president has "saved or created." The metric has always been the concrete, easier-to-determine number of how many jobs were lost and how many were gained. There has never before been a "saved" category, ever, and yes, all other presidents in an ailing economy would of course like to shift focus from the jobs lost to those they can claim were "saved."

It is only Obama -- special rules for special people! -- who has ever been so shameless as to attempt to shift the terms of debate to something so favorable to him (and so hard to determine), and it is only in Obama's case has the media been so compliant they went along with the charade.

The media should ask themselves why Bush never sought credit for what jobs he had supposedly "saved" -- surely he "saved" some, eh? He could not have gone 8 years with multiple tax cuts and multiple stimulus packages without ever once "saving" a job that would have otherwise have been lost -- and what their reaction would have been if Bush, rather than President Prissypants, had demanded they respect this brand-new, politically-helpful metric of "jobs saved."

No Bundler Left Behind

By Michelle Malkin  •  October 30, 2009 10:08 AM

My syndicated column today gives you a handy overview of all the president’s campaign finance bundlers — many of whom were spotlighted in Culture of Corruption. The Washington Times and USA Today shed more light on the money men and women with access to the White House. Same old, same old.

The Obama White House: Bundlers’ paradise
by Michelle Malkin
Creators Syndicate
Copyright 2009

Like Captain Renault in Casablanca, I am shocked, shocked to discover that access-peddling is going on in the Obama White House. Perks for deep-pocketed donors? Presidential meetings for sale? The stale, Chicago odor of pay-for-play wafting from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue? Knock me over with a feather.

Despite the president’s claimed distaste for the campaign finance practice known as “bundling” (rounding up aggregate contributions from friends, business associates, and employees), the House of Obama has been a campaign finance bundlers’ paradise from Day One. A new report by Matthew Mosk of the Washington Times just confirms the gob-smackingly obvious: It’s business as usual in the era of Hope and Change. O’s wealthiest Democrat donors have received lavish receptions, golf outings, bowling dates, and movie nights with Obama.

And internal Democratic National Committee documents acquired by the Times reveal that “high-dollar fundraisers have been promised access to senior White House officials in exchange for pledges to donate $30,400 personally or to bundle $300,000 in contributions ahead of the 2010 midterm elections.” Yup, they’re just haggling over the price.

Many Obama bundlers have secured slots on federal advisory panels and commissions. Still more have benefited from the time-honored patronage tradition of rewarding political benefactors with ambassadorships. Clinton did it. Bush did it. And despite all his fantastical, Balloon Boy-level rhetoric of bringing a “new politics” to Washington, Obama’s done it, too.

His ambassador to London, Louis Susman, is a Chicago crony with no diplomatic experience who bundled between $200,000 and $500,000 for Team Obama and is known as “The Vacuum Cleaner” for his fundraising prowess. His ambassador to France, entertainment mogul Charlie Rivkin headed up Obama’s California fundraising operations, raking in $500,000 for the campaign and another $300,000 for the inaugural. His ambassador to Spain, Boston money man Alan Solomont, also bundled the same amounts for the campaign and inaugural.

In June 2008, candidate Obama railed: “We need a President who will look out for the interests of hardworking families, not just their big campaign donors and corporate allies.” Immediately after the speech, he headed to a campaign fundraiser at the Manhattan headquarters of Credit Suisse, one of the major investment companies caught up in the subprime lending debacle. President Obama collected another $3 million last week at another Manhattan fundraiser after carping about Wall Street’s “self-interestedness.” Audacity is his middle name.

When Obama inveighs against Wall Street greed and politicians beholden to Big Business, remember this: The Wall Street gamblers that Obama and his wife carped about on the campaign trail shoveled money to his campaign hand over fist. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, hedge funds and private equity firms donated $2,992,456 to the Obama campaign in the 2008 cycle. No fewer than 100 Obama bundlers are investment CEOs and brokers: nearly two dozen work for financial giants such as Lehman Brothers, Goldman Sachs, or Citigroup.

Obama happily accepted more than $200,000 in bundled contributions from billionaire hedge-fund manager James Torrey, more than $100,000 in bundled contributions from billionaire hedge-fund manager Paul Tudor Jones and more than $50,000 in bundled contributions from billionaire hedge-fund manager Kenneth C. Griffin, chief executive officer of Citadel Investment Group in Chicago. Another notable: Chicago investment banker James Reynolds, who raised more than $200,000 for the Obama campaign while chief executive of Loop Capital Markets. The municipal bond specialist was a longtime friend of Obama—feting the rising star in his Hyde Park home and convincing friends and associates to open up their wallets more than a decade ago.

In 2003, USA Today reported, Reynolds was caught on FBI wiretaps arranging what prosecutors called a “sham” consulting contract with a gal pal of a Philadelphia mayoral adviser. After the conversations, Reynolds snagged $300,000 in no-bid city contracts for Loop Capital Markets. City officials went to jail over the scam. Reynolds skated. The Obama campaign’s only statement? “Jim Reynolds has admitted that he made mistakes, but he has not been charged with any wrongdoing.”

Fortunately for Obama bundlers who may find themselves in legal trouble in the future, Clinton-era donor maintenance fixer Eric Holder (who oversaw the pardon for fugitive financier March Rich) is guarding the henhouse at the Justice Department.

Every corner of the Obama administration is stuffed with crony moneybags. Take the First Lady’s social secretary, Desiree Rogers. More than a party planner, she’s a fund-raising machine in her own right. According to left-wing watchdog Public Citizen, Rogers bundled more than $200,000 for Obama and contributed $28,500 to Democrat committees. Rogers’ ex-husband, John W. Rogers, Jr., chief executive of multi-billion-dollar Ariel Capital Management, played basketball with Michelle O’s brother, Craig Robinson, at Princeton. Mr. Rogers also served as a campaign finance bundler for Team Obama – and hung with President Obama in the White House on Super Bowl Sunday.

An indignant White House says this is about “friendship,” not influence-peddling. But as Obama himself noted in 2007: “It is no coincidence that the best bundlers are often granted the greatest access, and access is power in Washington.”

Indeed, the Obama White House policy can be summed up in four words. No Bundler Left Behind.

We now know that Barack Obama lied through his teeth to the American public last month. The democrat’s health care bill will kill private insurance, will fund abortion, will cover illegal immigrants, will not be deficit neutral, will cost taxpayers over a trillion dollars and will even include death panels.

This Sunday FOX News will air an interview with Rush Limbaugh discussing this theft.
Click on the Image for the Video
rush
Here’s the transcript:

Rush on the dangers of Obamacare:

“This is not about insuring the uninsured, this is not about health care, this is about stealing one sixth of the private sector and putting it under the control of the Federal government, and when they get this health care bill, it they do, that’s the easiest fastest way for them to be able to regulate every aspect of human behavior.

Because it will all have some related costs to health care, what you drive, what you eat, where you live, what you do, there will be penalties for violating regulations, it’s gonna be the biggest snatch of freedom and liberty that has yet occurred in this country”

Health Care Hell: The Worst of Both Worlds

by Dymphna

From Americans for Tax Reform: [with my emphases - D]

Official scores of H.R. 3962 (the House Dem health bill) are out from the Congressional Budget Office (spending) and the Joint Committee on Taxation (revenues). A few highlights:

  • When the bill is fully phased-in, it will increase spending by approximately $150-$200 billion annually. Put another way, it will add about a percentage point to federal spending as a portion of the economy. Put yet another way, it will increase the historical size of the federal government by about 5 percent.

  • The bill won’t even come close to universal coverage. The bill reduces the number of the uninsured from 53 million to 18 million. It’s true that 96 percent of legal residents will be covered, but those 18 million uninsured will still be a huge drain on our health system. One would expect that $150 billion to $200 billion per year would get you universal coverage, at the very least.

  • By far, the largest tax hike will be the 5.4% surtax on millionaires and half-millionaires. Let’s also not forget that this should include about half of all small businesses in America. It raises taxes by $461 billion in the first ten years.

  • When the bill is fully phased-in, it will increase net taxes by approximately $200 billion per year. Put another way, it will add about a percentage point to federal taxes as a portion of the economy. Put yet another way, it will increase the historical federal tax burden by about 5.5 percent.

You know why the American people have been steam-rollered? Because that’s how our Soviet Democrat representatives work.

CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN WHY THIS WAS RAHMED THROUGH WITH SUCH FRENETIC HASTE WHEN IT WON'T TAKE EFFECT UNTIL 2013?

This is not a rhetorical question. I'd really like to know.

This administration and this Democrat Congress has not been tethered to reality. Now their bilious balloon is ascending, taking our hopes for a decent life and a workable health care system with it.

Kiss another freedom goodbye.

Can you spell S A R A H ! - The RINO killer.

Sarah Palin had the guts and the foresight to stand with Hoffman, the clear conservative, before anyone else, when he was a relative unknown. Now...

Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich: The Visionary and the Hack

NY 23: Perhaps Not All Politics Are Local

Why? Because if he wins, it just might put a damper on the designs of a radical liberal from San Francisco and a community organizer from Chicago who are trying to "fundamentally transform" the nation birthed by the Swamp Fox and other patriots. Nobody outside of upstate New York should have to know or care what happens in that congressional district...yet we need to.

And no one in Texas or Florida or North Carolina should live in fear of whatever whacko is sent to Congress from the shadows of Berkeley or from the machine politics of Chicago. Yet we do know, care, and in fact live in fear of these people -- and for good reason.

They consider all money as theirs and they want to control every aspect of our lives -- and they have made significant inroads towards doing just that in a few months. They are debating a piece of legislation that might in fact push the pendulum of government control past a point of no return. Most of the key people who are pushing this health care legislation are extreme liberals from parts of the country that will never fail to reelect them. The vast majority of the people they will affect, however, have no say in whether or not they get reelected.

Welcome to the Tea Party, Ms. Noonan – Meet our Leader

I want, I demand, and, as an American, I am entitled to a government that secures my INALIENABLE rights. I don’t want the government to give me health care, welfare, education, housing, minimum wage, automobiles or banking services. I don’t want them to tell me what to eat, what gun not to buy, what light bulbs to put in my house or how to sneeze. I don’t want to explain every minute financial detail to some bureaucrat. Don’t take my money for anything BUT the securing of inalienable rights. Leave me alone.

Subject: WE NOTICED

AND SO LIFE GOES!!!???

This was written by Sherry Hackett, Buddy Hackett’s widow……..

“WE NOTICED”

President Obama:

Today I read of your administrations’ plan to re-define September 11 as a National Service Day. Sir, it’s time we had a talk………

During your campaign, Americans watched as you made mockery of our tradition of standing and crossing your heart when the Pledge of Allegiance was spoken. You, out of four people on the stage, were the only one not honoring our tradition.

YES, “We noticed.”

During one of your many speeches, Americans heard you say that you intended to visit all 57 states.
We all know that Islam, not America has 57 states.

YES, “We noticed.”

When President Bush leaned over at Ground Zero and gently placed a flower on the memorial, while you nonchalantly tossed your flower onto the pile without leaning over.

YES, “We noticed.”

Every time you apologized to other countries for America ’s position on an issue we have wondered why you don’t share our pride in this great country. When you have heard foreign leaders berate our country and our beliefs, you have not defended us. In fact, you insulted the British Crown beyond belief.

YES, “We noticed.”

When your pastor of 20 years, “God-damned America ” and said that 9/11 was ” America ’s chickens coming home to roost” and you denied having heard recriminations of that nature, we wondered how that could be. You later disassociated yourself from that church and Pastor Wright because it was politically expedient to do so.

YES, “We noticed.”

When you announced that you would transform America , we wondered why. With all her faults, America is the greatest country on earth. Sir, KEEP THIS IN MIND, “if not for America and the people who built her, you wouldn’t be sitting in the White House now.” Prior to your election to the highest office in this Country, you were a senator from Illinois and from what we can glean from the records available, not a very remarkable one.

YES, “We noticed.”

All through your campaign and even now, you have surrounded yourself with individuals who are basically unqualified for the positions for which you appointed them. Worse than that, the majority of them are people who, like you, bear no special allegiance, respect, or affection for this country and her traditions.

YES, “We noticed.”

You are 9 months into your term and eve ry morning millions of Americans wake up to a new horror heaped on us by you. You seek to saddle working Americans with a health care/insurance reform package that, along with cap and trade, will bankrupt this nation.

YES, “We noticed.”

We seek, by protesting, to let our representatives know that we are not in favor of these crippling expenditures and we are labeled “un-American”,”racist”, “mob”. We wonder how we are supposed to let you know how frustrated we are. You have attempted to make our protests seem isolated and insignificant. Until your appointment, Americans had the right to speak out.

YES, “We noticed.”

On September 11, 2001 there were no Republicans or Democrats, only Americans. And we all grieved together and helped each other in whatever way we could. The attack on 9/11 was carried out because we are Americans.

And YES, “We noticed.”

There were many of us who prayed that as a black president you could help unite this nation. In six months you have done more to destroy this nation than the attack on 9/11.

You have failed us.

YES, “We noticed.”

September 11 is a day of remembrance for all Americans. You propose to make 9/11 a “National Service Day”. While we know that you don’t share our reverence for 9/11, we pray that history will report your proposal as what it is…a disgrace.

YES, “We noticed.”

You have made a mockery of our Constitution and the office that you hold. You have embarrassed and slighted us in foreign visits and policy.

YES, “We noticed..”

We have noticed all these things. We will deal with you. When Americans come together again, it will be to remove you from office.

Take notice.

If you agree with this please pass it on.

Dog in the manger Award goes to the baby-hating psuedo-R:

NY23 Scuzzi shows her true colors .. endorses the Dem ...

It's Official: Scozzafava Endorses The Democrat Against Hoffman

—DrewM.

And there it is.

You know me, and throughout my career, I have been always been an independent voice for the people I represent. I have stood for our honest principles, and a truthful discussion of the issues, even when it cost me personally and politically. Since beginning my campaign, I have told you that this election is not about me; it’s about the people of this District.

It is in this spirit that I am writing to let you know I am supporting Bill Owens for Congress and urge you to do the same.

It’s not in the cards for me to be your representative, but I strongly believe Bill is the only candidate who can build upon John McHugh's lasting legacy in the U.S. Congress. John and I worked together on the expansion of Fort Drum and I know how important that base is to the economy of this region. I am confident that Bill will be able to provide the leadership and continuity of support to Drum Country just as John did during his tenure in Congress.

In Bill Owens, I see a sense of duty and integrity that will guide him beyond political partisanship. He will be an independent voice devoted to doing what is right for New York. Bill understands this district and its people, and when he represents us in Congress he will put our interests first.

Please join me in voting for Bill Owens on Tuesday. To address the tough challenges ahead, we must rise above partisanship and politics and work together. There's too much at stake in this election to do otherwise.

I really hope someone is going to primary her next year for her Assembly seat.

Added: Scozzafava's hissy fit is understandable on two levels, she's pissed at Hoffman and she does agree with Owens more. So on a human level I get it.

What it is not is forgivable. Someone needs to run against her for her Assembly seat and failing that, support should be given to her Democratic challenger. Trust me on this, one more or less Republican of any stripe is of no consequence there. Right now it's 110 Democrats and 40 Republicans. As long as NYC remains part of NY State, that's not changing.

Thanks to @jaketapper for the heads up, even if he is a Phillies fan.

Anyone with an ounce of grey matter told anyone who was willing to listen this bitch was a lefty in a RINO's coat. But nooooooooooo! We have to be open to the big tent philosophy of party building, don't we. We're not allowed to build the party around a core set of values, ideals, and virtues, are we?

All the Newt and David Frum types have accomplished is prove once again how utterly wrong they are on anything to do with the running of this party. It was only the efforts of dedicated, scrupulous Conservative Republicans that have unmasked this hog whose only future political hopes are to run as an openly Dem candidate.

A new day is dawning. Wake up and smell the coffee you spineless squishes.

UPDATE: Okay, call it FIVE amusing links, thanks to Iowahawk

First up: Mark Steyn had me guffawing over my cornflakes this morning with this one:

The Senior Advisor [Valerie Jarrett] seems to have forgotten that she is the power. Admittedly, this is a recurring lapse on the part of the administration. There was Barack Obama only the other day blaming everything on the president — no, no, silly, not him, the other fellow, the Designated Fall Guy who stepped down as head of state in January to accept the new constitutional position of Blame Czar. Musing on problems in Afghanistan, Obama blamed the “long years of drift” under his predecessor. The new president — okay, newish president — has been Drifter-in-Chief for almost a year but he’s too busy speaking truth to the former power to get on top of the situation. It could be a while yet. In his more self-regarding moments, such as his speech to the U.N., he gives the strong impression that the “long years of drift” began in 1776.

Rocco Landesman, head honcho at the National Endowment for the Arts, seems closer to the reality of the situation. In his keynote address to the 2009 “Grantmakers in the Arts” Conference, Landesman hailed Obama as “the most powerful writer since Julius Caesar.” He didn’t mean a “powerful writer” as in a compelling voice, gripping narrative, vivid characterization, command of language, etc. He meant a “powerful writer” as in Caesar was king of the world, and now Obama is. He came; he saw; he stimulated: “If you accept the premise, and I do, that the United States is the most powerful country in the world, then Barack Obama is the most powerful writer since Julius Caesar. That has to be good for American artists.”

I suppose so. He could invade somewhere and force the natives to accept degrading roles in NEA-funded performance art. He could take out the Iranian nuclear program by carpet-bombing it with unreadable literary novels. That is, if you “accept the premise” that the United States is the most powerful country in the world. Rocco Landesman may, but it’s not clear, from his actions (or inactions) in Eastern Europe, Iran, Afghanistan, and elsewhere, that the president does. But, even so, it seems an odd pitch to “American artists.” Rocco Landesman, Speaking Goof to Power, isn’t the first Obama groupie to enjoy the kinky frisson of groveling obsequiousness, but he’s set an impressive new standard in public revelation thereof.

It goes on like that; a little gem of intelligent and pointed snark. And if you read into the second page, well, I blush to say, this fellow even mentions yours truly, so read it all!

Steven Crowder:
One of his best take-down’s yet; I laughed myself silly:

Bakerella: Assists in a marriage proposal. Who said blogs are not powerful?

Bookworm: on the heels of the White House/NEA scandal that the press won’t talk about, Bookworm gives us a description of public art in San Francisco:

“The colorful mural by acclaimed artist Guy Colwell features Speaker Nancy Pelosi lancing a Republican elephant; a Terminator-dressed Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger patting the back of a grizzly bear; Senator Dianne Feinstein waving the California State flag; Mayor Gavin Newsom performing a same-sex marriage ceremony; former Mayor Willie Brown brandishing a freshly pressed suit. . . former Supervisor Harvey Milk waving a Castro Rainbow flag with former Mayor George Moscone by his side; actress Marilyn Monroe hugging baseball Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio on the back of a giraffe…”

You can see a picture of the mural, here.

Writes Bookworm:

Considering the art world’s Leftism, it can’t be a coincidence that, despite the worst recession in decades, art agencies just got their highest funding in 16 years. After all, if you were on the Left, wouldn’t you want to fund people like the Chief of the National Endowment for the Arts, who is not only someone whose paycheck has a lot to do with American taxpayers, but who also is a man who thinks Obama is the most powerful writer since Julius Caesar.

We are living in very serious times, with very silly people in power. Very silly people who believe you and I are stupid. Very stupid. And they get away with it.

They’ll get away with as much as we let them

BELMONT CLUB: The Lordlings. “The one thing no generation of parents can protect their children from is reality. No inheritance can withstand the foolishness of heirs. The harsh arithmetic on the frontier, the terrible outflow of dollars and cents, the gradual and then sudden loss of credibility as people see they are dealing not with serious people but with gilded fools cumulate their irresistible effects.”

This was a lousy attempt at speaking truth to power

Considering there are at least two top officials who have openly praised communist mass murderer Mao Tse Tung in public then it would make sense that they felt this way about the pro-free market Republicans.
obamao
There’s a reason the shops are displaying Oba-Moa shirts in their windows a few blocks from the White House.

White House top advisor Valerie Jarrett blamed “the extremists in the Republican Party leadership” for ousting Daily Kos candidate Dede Scozzafava from the NY-23 race.
Huh?
The Politico reported:

White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that the rise of a Conservative Party challenger in a closely watched upstate New York House election shows that the Republican Party leadership is “becoming more and more extreme, and more and more marginalized.”

“It’s rather telling when the Republican Party forces out a moderate Republican and it says, I think, a great deal about where the Republican Party leadership is right now,” Jarrett said when asked about the GOP candidates’ decision to suspend her campaign, making it more likely the Conservative will win Tuesday’s special election.
On other issues, Jarrett told host George Stephanopoulos that she sees “a great deal of momentum … on heath care,” and said the White House does not view the decision of Abdullah Abdullah, Afghanistan’s leading opposition candidate, to withdraw from a Nov. 7 runoff.

So was Jarrett even following the race or was she just being dishonest on purpose?
Scozzafava was, of course, the GOP leadership’s candidate.
The GOP (and Daily Kos) endorsed her.

She dropped out because the New York voters rejected her not because the GOP leadership rejected her.
What a ridiculous argument.

More… Backwards Boy added:

This is what you get when you elect an anti-American as president: a psychological war that never ends. If you hold traditional American views, you are the enemy. If you believe in lmited government and individual self-rule and self control, you’re a “right wing extremist”.

The only people worried about the party are the politicians. "We the people" are looking at individuals. It's a fact, plain and simple. It's a government "by the people". GOP and some others better sit up and take notice. Why the GOP has backed "cap and trade Mark Kirk" I cannot in my wildest dreams imagine. He is another Specter, Scozzafava issue.
